My friend take a moment and look at the zip file you are flashing then notice what your are pushing over. Within the zip file there are multiple files being installed to your system as opposed to you only pushing over one file. Always good practice to check out what you are flashing
Push everything over and fix permissions if needed

but it's not a zip file. I know that this rom cones pre installed with the super user setting in the settings but I'm using the app. but when I click on it the app tells me that I have to update something so when I did normal it says failed try flashing in cwm or custom recovery. so when I do custom recovery. but even time I reboot into recovery says what I said about.

Strange Root Issue

When I saw the port for ICS come out I got really excited and flashed it right away. Then I realized for whatever reason I didnt have SU permissions so I couldn't tether to my computer. I was disappointed but I thought, "no biggie, I'll just restore from my back up." When I flashed my back up the SU app was in my app drawer but I still couldn't tether. As a matter of fact I can't do anything that requires SU but the bootloader still reads unlocked. WTF?
I can't flash a new recovery either. I tried installing from ROM manager, I tried pushing it from my computer but I can't get to the recovery any more. ROM manager says that I have CWM 5.0.2.0 currently installed but I can't get to it at all. Again, WTF?

^clearly the phone is working perfectly fine with the stock ROM from the back up but obviously I want my SU back.
Root your phone and read the development thread versus making blog posts.

Thanks for not answering my questions. The bootloader is unlocked but I don't have root and I don't have access to recovery mode even tho ROM Manager says I have Clockwork Mod 5.0.2.0 currently installed. I cannot access the recovery mode AT ALL. I cannot flash or push a new recovery but it fully boots into Gingerbread w/o any issues. What is wrong with my phone and how do I fix it.

Try from rom manager to reinstall a previous recovery version.

That doesn't work either. It goes through the prompts but it doesn't actually reboot do the installation.
I just tried unrooting and then re - rooting but that didn't work and I think that actually wiped my phone completely. I don't even know where an SD card would get into this thing.

Is that the right name of the recovery img? Try renaming it to just recovery and see if that works.
Edit: make sure your phone is in debugging mode. And uninstall then reinstall the drivers on your computer

No suggestions have worked so far. It does not matter what the recovery image name is, whenever I try the flash it Terminal says that it cannot load "***.img" or if I try an install command it says that it cannot find "***.zip" I'm on a snow leopard iMac so I don't need drivers n such.
Let me pose the question like this, what would I do to completely restore the phone to factory condition and try to root it again? Like I said before, the bootloader says that it is unlocked but I do not have any root privileges, could not access the recovery I had before nor install a new recovery after having locked the unlocked the phone's bootloader again.

go to the link above and follow the directions for returning to stock.
find yourself a one-click root method on XDA that includes superuser, busybox, and CWM.
EDIT: Also, double check the md5 sum for the CWM .zip. use
Code:
md5 recovery-aaaaaa.img
in the terminal and make sure the output matches whatever is given on the CWM site. if they dont have one up, ask for it
NS4g one-click root app:
http://www.mediafire.com/?2jx8xtx2602hi23
this will:
unlock the bootloader
install cwm 5.0.2.0
root
No commands, no messing with pushing files manually, etc. This thing has already saved me from major headaches while restoring my phone once and I've only had it for 3 weeks lol

Problem flashing custom recovery

Just get my nexus, i unlock it root it and try to install twrp through nexus 4 toolkit...when im on flashboot i choose reboot recovery but nothing happens...also i notice that i have a bootloader* version mako10o ( i see only 10i and 10I exists correct me if im wrong)
Edit: somehow with nexus root toolkit i manage to flash it..even with some difficulties....
so anyone else has this bootloader?i have the nipples and the smaller "hole" in the back camera too!!
Don't use a toolkit and learn to do it all manually
I know who to make it manually even than from my old phone its a bit different..but i unlock, root, change recovery in 1st hour the phone came...
You probably types the wrong command or didn't place the file in the right place.
Anyways, you can just flash twrp using the too manager app from the play store.

What thread did you get your boot animations from?
Flashable zips or pushed with a file explorer?
What firmware are you on as well?

Sounds like you have a stock recovery installed so you can't flash anything. If you are on the MDL firmware install a custom recovery from Goo Manager. If you are on MF3 you can't install a custom recovery and can't flash anything.
From MF3 you can copy and paste from a root level file explorer. Use extreme caution since there is no firmware available to flash with Odin should you get yourself in trouble.
I'm sorryi have no coy how to get a custom recovery. . Do I need me computer to get a new custom recovery? What is the mdl and mf3? Sorry im new to all this stuff
I suggest finding out what firmware you have first, then reading as much as possible about custom recoveries and the like.

Jeezus! Does no one listen to me? OP has not even specified what firmware he is on... That could lead to a bricked phone. There is more important stuff to figure out first. OP is obviously new at this and needs to read up on the more important stuff before messing with anything else, including system files.

Good job, not knowing what firmware he's on you could have caused him to brick his device. Listen to graydiggy, he knows what he's taking about.

[Q] How do I stop ATT update?

First off I apologize if this is in the wrong section or has been asked before, I couldn't really find the answer I'm looking for.
So I have my S4 (4.2.2 if it matters) rooted and TWRP recovery loaded on it. I was getting the ATT update message and I kept hitting ignore or remind me latter, however I noticed last night it starts to try to install and restart without giving me an option to cancel it. I quickly remove the battery to prevent my phone from updating.
My question is, how do I stop this update when I turn my phone back on? I don't want it to update the firmware and lock my boot loader. Or am I making a big deal over nothing?
Thanks in advance

Thanks so much.
Just one more think, I just want to make sure that when I turn my phone back on that the update won't finish installing (it was in the process of installing when I shut it off).
Thanks again for all the help.
I'm assuming that u have MDB/MDL firmware. ......Take your Att sim card out. ... u need to root your phone. ... install Titanium back up and go to Att software update app ....back up first just incase u need it to return to att and then uninstall it...... that's should stop it from OTA update
SWYPED_FROM_S4_MF3_REDVENOM
Yep, you're going to want to root and then rename or freeze those files, you found in the Google search. That will stop the update
Taking just the SIM out at this point won't help. Only way to completely stop it now since it was installing is to Odin back to MDL and start the root process.

So not to keep asking the same question, when the sim card is out of the phone, will that prevent the update from installing?
Also to clarify, I've already rooted my phone and installed TWRP recovery. Again at this point I just want to make sure that when I turn my phone on the update isn't going to automatically finish installing before I can block the app/files
Again, thanks so much for the help, can't wait to get a rom installed and start enjoying the awesomeness
I'd follow graydiggy suggestion. Don't turn it on except to go into download mode. Flash the mdl firmware, then root again and freeze the update apps or install a custom Rom
I could be wrong but I believe the update won't apply since the stock recovery has been replaced with a custom recovery . If I am wrong Im sure somone will come in and correct this statement .

Won't matter
If you have a custom recovery, the update should fail the install with an error 7. However, I would still completely start from scratch by using Odin to get a clean slate without an update. You could actually use Kies and do the emergency restore. Whatever you do, do not boot the phone into the OS until it has been completely wiped by either Odin or Kies. Only download mode.

boot into recovery and in twrp manually go erase the update.zip from cache/fota. Then wipe cache before rebooting. That, or flash the PIT file. I posted directions on how to extract the stock signed PIT file but you'll probably need someone to extract one for you since you dont want to boot to Android yet.

Oh yeah. TWRP has a file manager. Delete the update and then boot the OS and use Titanium Backup to delete the OTA stuff

[Q] twrp wont load

i installed a theme for the recovery and next thing you know my phone wouldnt boot.... so... i went into recovery so i could just reflash the rom and fix the issue but guess what? the them was so big I CANT PRESS THE INSTALL BUTTON! i already tried deleting the theme using the file manager but I CANT PRESS THE DELETE BUTTON EITHER, anyone know a way to boot into twrp and make it bypass loading the theme? Please do make any referances to adb because i dont have a computer at the moment. Im at work and cant install anything on this computer and no i cant ask the I.T. for help...... please help me.....:crying:
Without adb to reflash the recovery and delete the TWRP configuration file and theme that is present on the SD card, I think you're out of luck. To the best of my knowledge those tools are required to fix your problem.
