One of the killer features on the G2 is the optical image stabilization. Does anyone know how that's implemented ie hardware or software and whether or not it would be fully functional in an aosp build?

Are you offering to do it?
Of course I would love it, but from what I've heard it's impossible without rewriting Samsung's camera driver to utilize camera2 api... So basically it won't happen.
P.S. I would also love Apt-X bluetooth audio codec on CM roms, but that's highly unlikely as well...
Does anyone know if it's the Hardware or Firmware that is preventing the "Camera2" support needed for the 3rd Party Camera apps to allow full manual control over the T2's camera? I was hoping that one of these apps might work so that I could use them to see if I could get better results from the 21MP camera on the T2 but none of them do. It seems like the problems with the white balance adjustment and other shortcomings can't be fixed yet. If it's a hardware thing, then I'll probably return the T2 to get the G4 or V10 but if it's a firmware deal that can be fixed, I'm not sure what I'll do.
Afaik, Moto doesn't use the latest Andoir camera API. Of course, could be changed but looks like that is not in MM update.
Is there any way to improve camera quality on Cyanogen Mod latest nightly (official) for Z1 Compact?
CM fully works now but i dont like camera quality, like I have 8mpx, and front one is bad.
Don't know about improving it, but there's some ports/alternative camera apps out there that will take better pictures. Google cam, Jishnu's h2o cam port, and one on play store called Camera HD ultra, or something like that. I've found that they all take better pics. Personally I'm waiting for a MM update to the Sony camera port.
think there will be official MM camera blobs for aosp, levelone1?
onto the OP: no way to improve aosp camera, as manufacturers (sony is not alone) doesn't publish full featured camera drivers to aosp so the community uses generic hw layer for cameras therefore almost every camera (by that i mean big manufacturers) is worse than stock. there was a lot commentary written already on that matter, aiming mostly on google and aosp architecture overall.
agree with levelone1, you can try jishnu sur's ports as they include binary libraries ripped from stock roms. it doesn't always work on every rom and hardware but you can try. he have g+ community https://plus.google.com/communities...2/stream/d8676ee7-0970-452e-82f3-a10e3b0b4a36 and publishes regulary camera ports.
Hello all,
Now that there are so many great devs supporting our device there is a question that i would like to ask.
Is there any possibility to optimize and add OIS through custom roms in the near future?
If i am not wrong the quality on OP3,GP is better(even with google camera) due to their software during the img processing. It would be splendid to have the camera improved even by a small margin.
I also want to clarify that i am not circle jerking about the camera, i am humbly asking if such software upgrade would be possible.
Thanks!
Ois is hardware dependant. Yes, op3 has same sensor, but with ois implemented. You cant have it by some software tweaks
But there is EIS, so electronik stabilization. Maybe this helps?
Thanks for the responses. I havent really make any research regarding mobile phone sensors so i could only guess.
If OIS is out of question due to being hardware dependent, then what about the image processing?
As far as i have seen its mostly software dependent so do you think that we could get better quality ?(i.e better night shots)

Cant see EIS on the stock came( i meant an enabler)
Yes it is not activ, bit maybe the devs could integrate it. It should be possible because no extra Hardware is needed.
You need sources and blobs and stuff. Its not that simple, wouldnt bet on it happening. Only realistic way is if leeco themselfes push update with improved quality

That sounds good, but i usw lineage OS and therefore the leeco updates are useless?
So, from what I've understood is that the Samsung Camera app is "impossible" to use on an AOSP ROM, but I don't understand why. I've heard that there are some missing libraries, but they can't be ported over?
I really want to switch to an AOSP ROM like Lineage or HavocOS tbh, but the Open Camera and stock Camera app that comes with most ROMs just have unbearable quality. Low light isn't possible with them, you have to have brightly lit areas if you want to use it, HDR is a no-go, 240FPS or 960FPS is practically unheard of (from my experience). Is there no option alternative at all that has ok-ish quality or isn't trash?

It would require Samsung source code for the camera, which they will never release.
