Call Recording Mod? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, was wondering if theres any flashable mod that would enable call recording for the stock 4.2.2 JB roms? Perhaps something you find in the wanam rom?
Also have another question, i restored my angry birds games from my s2 on my s4 with titanium. When opening them, they are very zoomed out on the s4, is there anyway to fix that?

Xposed and http://repo.xposed.info/module/uk.co.villainrom.pulser.enablecallrecording module.

Yeah the above, and for automatic call recording I will advice ACR, it's free on Play, works great.

There are plenty call recording apps in the Play Store, just check for it . Also for the Angry Birds you can try an app to backup only the saves and then reset the game and restore the save file with the app, I guess ot at work...

It's already there in the stock secphone.apk, it just needs a few lines of code to enable it. Djembey modified it and has a link to it in his pre-rooted rom thread. It activates the standard call recording feature, and also disables the stupid quiet ringing for the first second of a call.

In fact, here's a link for it. You can either flash this zip file (includes a modified email app too, as on some of his roms the stock email app stopped working), or just extract it and pull the secphone.apk from it, dump it in place of the existing one in system/app, check permissions and reboot. Works on odexed and deodexed roms, and saves recordings in .amr format in the sounds folder of main storage. If you're odexed, just delete secphone.odex before rebooting.

Thanks for this, its exactly what im after. Just two things, im on stock 4.2.2 XXUBMH8, and the extracted secphone.apk is of a different firmware number, would that be a issue? And should the permissions be set as same as the permissions of the original one? Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium

It works on any version mate, and yeah, just make sure the permissions are the same as the one you're replacing it with. Keep the old one backed up if you like, but you shouldn't need to.

Thanks mate, when i delete the secphone.odex file, will it get created again after a reboot? I just want to be sure as i dont have a custom recovery yet, and dont want to get into a bootloop. Im just rooted and on stock recovery. Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium

If your rom needs it it'd build it again during boot. Even if something went wrong, all that would happen is the secphone.apk wouldn't work, so you could just put the original one back and reboot again. You won't cause bootloops or anything. It won't go wrong anyway as long as the permissions are correct, you're only replacing an app.

but your current downloadlink leads to an apk file called: uk.co.villainrom.pulser.enablecallrecording_v1_9af986.apk
not a zip.
should I rename that apk in SecPhone.apk and overwrite the one in system/app with it?

Hmm, that's not what the link used to be for IIRC. It should be a zip file containing exchange.apk and secphone.apk.
You did try this link I posted I assume?

[ROMAPP]ROMEditToGo 0.9.3

Hi,
because our developers are so fast in releasing new ROMs every day I decided to make a nice little app for convenience.
Ever had this problem?
You are on the road, checking XDA and your favourite dev has just updated your ROM. You cannot wait until you come back home, but wait. There are all those apps you always remove from the ROMs before you flash them. And all your favourite MODs you need to add.
That's where ROMEditToGo comes in.
What it does
This app is for modifying ROM files. You can delete files (APKs for now) from the ROM. Also you may merge files from other ZIPs into the ROM (if they are already in there).
It is especially for those people, that want to modify some aspects of a ROM, but don't want to use a PC/Mac for that purpose.
You can open ROMs from the app or from any file explorer (any zip file).
You can define a default path for your ROM, so the dialog to choose ROMs will open this folder first (if you use OI File Manager).
There's also a backup option, in case you want to leave the source ROM unmodified.
Available Languages are English and German.
What it will do
I'm planning to implement some more features like
adding single files to the ROM
Maintain a (user-defined) list of commonly deleted files (e.g. Stocks.apk)
Implement forbidden files, which are needed for the ROMs to work
Check if file is a ROM
Customizing scripts
You name it...
What it does not
The ROM files are not signed. So you have to turn off verification in recovery. Also there are several APKs you should better leave in the ROM.
What you need
Android 2.2 installed...
Caution
Removing APK files from the ROM may produce a file that is not able to start correctly. Please be careful when removing files. Make sure you have a copy of a working ROM, in case something went wrong.

This is because your ROM doesn't contain a zip binary. I will try to work around this in the next version.

I find myself creating my own custom ROMS, taking wallpaper from one ROM and framework from another and the ability to include UOT in the package while being away from my PC, absolutely sick.

Just released a new version. As a part of the check it is now possible to directly install the zip binary.
The downside of this is, that the app needs root now, and also S-OFF.
If I find the time, I'll provide a flashable.zip for the binary.
Any chance of it supporting other file managers? I use ES File Explorer. Great app though.

New Version is out.
You can now use any file manager. The downside is, that the standard action doesn't allow to choose a folder to start from.
You can choose in the settings, which way you want it.
New version:
No more need for zip binary. Also it's now possible to search for apks in the ROM.
Superb App. Working wonders for me.
Regards.
simply AMAZING
Hi,
was really happy to find your app...
but on my HTC Desire running ICS from Sandvold it doesn't work.
The zip is 22 bytes big afterwards, so it's actually empty. Besides, when I select a different zip to be included, the button to start processing can't be pressed...
Any chance for a fix?

I'm on sandvolds ICS, too.
If you choose an addon, you also have to select the files to insert.
For the 22b error I got no idea, which rom did you edit?

Thanks for your reply.
I'm on Sandvold's 0.2.0 and wanted to adapt 0.2.1, because I don't want to switch from data++...
I tried just changing the zip file but somehow that doesn't work either. When I open it with 7zip and try to delete some apk's, it says "operation not implemented".
When I try it with WinRAR, I get "Archive is broken" after the delete operation.
I also unzipped it, deleted what I don't need and re-zipped it, but then my 4ext Touchcovery aborts the installation...
Any help for these methods is also appreciated...

[MOD] How to see Emoji in the whole system on Galaxy S3

So basically I was trying the methods you can find here on xda, but they didn't work on our GS3 (I'm not the only one who noticed this), then I found out that we have one more tiny little step to make, and that's changing fallback_fonts.xml the file that says which fonts to use when the system fonts are not capable to read the content.
Here we go!
What do you need? Root and Root Explorer
IMPORTANT: Make a backup of the 2 files we are going to replace and also a Nandroid Backup if you want to be sure.
1: download this two files:
DroidSansFallback.ttf https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18807962/DroidSansFallback.ttf
fallback_fonts.xml https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18807962/fallback_fonts.xml
2: place the two files as follows with Root Explorer:
DroidSansFallback.ttf goes to /system/fonts
fallback_fonts.xml goes to /system/etc
You will be asked if you want to replace the two files, of course you will say "Yes dude".
3: Reboot and enjoy
I've tested it in the Twitter app and in Instagram and it works (in Instagram sometimes I can see the emojis in the notifications but then I can't in the pic's comments, don't know why, bue I guess it's an Instagram's app issue)

Sorry i generally lurk the forums and dont post.
First off this worked for emoji. Spectacular info.
My question is can the unicode fonts be fixed the same way?
I'm still randomly getting those silly little boxes in pal and s8 games
Where on my evo i needed to install 2 other fonts. Inorder to see the unicode writing.
Any ideas?
It should work exactly in the same way, add the two fonts in the fonts' folder and then modify the xml adding the two new fonts in it.

Emoji still doesn't fully work
So i replaced the files and rebooted my galaxy but i still can't see messages on twitter the boxes still come up unless i see each message one by one in details and also i can't see emoji's when someone texts me the only time i can see the emoji's is when i type them myself.
Is there any fix for this so i can see the emojis people text me?
works
You definitely need RootExplorer with Mount R/W to replace the files - and they work perfectly...
Thank you...
Now we have to figure out a way to get those Emoj Keys into the Keyboard...

Hey... found it...
Search for "Emoji Keyboard" in the Google Playstore.
This Keyboard works perfectly together with your font package pre-intalled.
I can finally use my normal Message app to write and receive Emoji... Nice...
I have to say thank you again...

No need to do so much effort. Just install latest Jelly Bean keyboard pro and Emoji icons from play store. Long press enter key anytime on keyboard and you will find Emoji; can use them in all applications.

What is a System Dump?
You may have seen system dumps around the net for android devices and have wonder what it is. A system dump gives a user a image of the currently installed system ROM. You can use a system dump to restore your android device in case the situation arises that something has gone terrible wrong with your device. Obtaining a backup of the system or system dump is in most cases a good idea. Some people recommend doing this before upgrading or installing custom roms on your android device. Others recommended that unless your a developer you shouldn't be fooling around with system dumps. I hope this helps people who didn't know. Remember system dumps come in all shapes and sizes. So make sure you read whats included in a dump before using it.

You'll need to put them in system\app and fix permissions and reboot. You can fix permissions in whatever program you use to move the files (root explorer etc) and they should be like:
rw-
r--
r--
Or alternately, you could place the files, reboot into recovery, choose "fix permissions", then reboot.

Thx, all that accomplished and got message - Application not installed
Edit-
You should not try to install the apks at all, just place them, fix permissions, and reboot.
I fixed similar problem when i had optimus g by doing factory reset.
You could try that.

But for that it is mentioned that we need a base rom of the device... whereas all we have to work with are stock kdz firmwares... What to do??
Stock is the base rom. And if you have stock rom. Then just edit the firmware app and blast that rom in the becice to fire the hell out of it and remember.
Dont ever try changing the partitions.
Just that

So... I started with the kitchen... and used the stock rom for a working folder.
I wasnt able to locate any boot.img from it but it seems new devices have kernel.bin instead of boot.img right?? I had cust.bin in it... So I proceeded making a fake boot.img which will later be deleted while compiling the rom.. So what to change and what not to?? Please clarify it...
Thanks!

So.
Make a cwm backup of rom and there you will have original boot.img.
And about rom changing.
1- apps (dont touch systemui and framework).
2- fonts.
3- audio.
4- boot animations.
5- sys/class device hardware properties.
6- build.prop(only edit if you know).
Ask me if anywhere stuck on kitchen or anything.
Do have a backup of the device which is flashable through recovery ok.

Actually the available recovery is of TWRP and I don't know how to make a custom recovery/kernel for this device...
All that I can find in the twrp backup are:
And... Should I zipalign and deodex all the apps?? What do I change in the hardware properties?
Thanks!

First anser
Yes zipaling all apps but deodex all apps except systemui and framework res folder ok.
Those apps are found unstable on deodexing and often give fc's.
And second to change hardware's properties yo have to find location.
/sys/classes/ and inside there there are all your hardware. Change them if you are confident about what you are doing.
You can read my guide about how to change torch light brightness. I will give you an startup example.

So should I deodex one-by-one?? there are in all 77 apps ...
But If you say so i will do that... I have decided not to change the hardware properties for now... If this project is successful i can add more in next update.
Also how do i customize the rom to make it look like lollipop?? I use xposed for tinted bars, and xstana for navigation bar but I would like to use any other option to directly add in the rom... and more than the tinted status bar.
And what about the boot.img? Is it fine if a fake one is added now and later it is removed??
Also link for your guide please??
Thanks!
