[Q] Does camera's burst mode work on your GN3? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have 2 GN3s on Verizon and they both exhibit the same problem. When the camera's burst mode is selected I should be able to hold down the camera button and take like 20 shots at a time. However after hours of trying I've only managed to get that to work twice. On my SG3, this works flawlessly.

I just tested this and you are correct unfortunately. I'm not getting burst shots either, which is disappointing. I'm sure it can be fixed in a software update , but still very frustrating. I too enjoyed the burst feature on my n2. And I definitely have burst shot turned on and I'm on auto mode which gives a pop up saying burst shots can be taken in auto. Unfortunately I don't think this is the only bug that may need an update. I'm reading a lot of different things from people. Most things are very minor and all and all I'm still very happy with the update from the n2 to the n3. I guess some bugs r to be expected as well when things r so new.

Works for me. Just tried it out & took 15 shots in burst mode.
Tried it 5 different times and worked every time.

Working fine here. With Smart Stabilization turned on, mine works sometimes, but other times will not. With it off, it works every time.

Worked for me as well even with Smart Stabilization turned on.

OK so I went back and shut off image stabilization and burst shot does work but with image stabilization on it does not work for me for sure. Only with it off. I'm hoping it's supposed to be this way and not a hardware issue??
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

Well it looks like turning off image stabilization is the trick. Once I turned that off it has worked every time. It seems to take half a second from once the camera button is press and held and then an overlay for the 20 potential shots is display and in then starts taking burst shots. I'm not a big picture taker, so it wasn't the end of the world, I just found it really annoying that the my new GN3 had such an in your face bug.

I hope it gets fixed, as I imagine turning off image stabilization in order to use burst mode is like robbing Peter to pay Paul, solves one problem but creates another

This is the conversation I just had with Samsungs support on the issue:
Rick :
Thank you for contacting Samsung Support. How may I help you?
Ian Harris :
How are you Rick? I just got a Note 3 and am finding with trying to use burst mode for the camera, it only works if stabilization is turned off.
Rick :
Hi Ian!
Rick :
I am doing good! Thanks for asking.
Rick :
How about you?
Ian Harris :
Not bad thanks.
Rick :
You're welcome.
Rick :
Did you purchase the device in Canada?
Ian Harris :
Any info on why the camera wont take burst mode when stabilization is on?
Ian Harris :
Yes I did
Ian Harris :
It came to me directly from Bell
Rick :
I understand the issue.
Rick :
I see that Burst shot may not work when Smart Stabilization is turned ON.
Ian Harris :
I have read forums on the internet here and multiple people are experiencing the same issue.
Ian Harris :
That is where I got the idea to turn the stabilization OFF in order for it to work correctly. However I feel that I should not have to do that. Any ideas on what is wrong with the phone/settings?
Rick :
Phone is developed in such a way that Smart Stabilization should be turned OFF to use Burst Shot as when using Burst shot, images will be captured very fast, it may not be possible to stabilize the image
Rick :
Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Ian Harris :
It works fine when in the "Best Picture" mode though...which takes 8 shots and picks the best ones. The stabilization is left on for that. I dont think that it would make sense that I have to turn it OFF for one of the same type and can leave it ON for the other.
Rick :
I understand your issue, I will forward this to appropriate department as a feedback, so they will work on it.
Rick :
I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Rick :
Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Ian Harris :
Thats all you can tell me about this? Will I be receiving an email with a solution?
Rick :
If this issue is resolved, then it will be included in the next update.
Rick :
Unfortunately we don't have estimated time for next update.
Ian Harris :
Is it a known issue?
Rick :
No, as of now we don't have any reported issues.
Rick :
This is the feature of the phone.
Rick :
So, our engineers will try to enhance this feature.
Rick :
When the enhancement is successful, then it will be included in the next update.
Ian Harris :
I will be posting this conversation to many forums so that the other users will indeed contact you guys so that it will be a known issue.
Ian Harris :
How do I go about reporting the issue?
Rick :
This is not the issue, this is the feature of the phone. I will forward this to appropriate department. If you want to report, then you can contact our Mobile Specialist Support at 1-888-751-4078 . They are available from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM EST.

Holding camera button crashes camera app
Hello,
I am running Phronesis ROM v4 and each time I hold camera button I get the message "Unfortunately camera has Stopped" also if I take the first picture and tap gallery I get msg that gallery is empty, so I have to force close camera app in order to be able to go to gallery from the app. I am not sure was it like this on original ROM. I have done all clear cache, reset the phone etc.
Hope someone can help me on this.
Many thanks.

Problems taking pictures.

has anybody else had trouble with the camera when taking pics. Does not happen all the time. Just seemingly after every picture that I want so an intermittent and annoying problem.
"Unable to save the captured image. Unable to get data from camera device 36001:510:2"
Sometimes a reset shakes it off but it always comes back later...
Yup. The camera is basically rubbish and so is the stability/performance of the camera software. I usually find the first photo takes a second or so to take...after that I've known it take 15-20 seconds from pressing the button to it taking the photo. Utterly useless, really - too reliant on software that does not have priority over other stuff happening on the device.
In fact, if I know I want to take a photo, I reset the phone first. Sad but true.
Well at least its not just mine.
Is this the sort if thing that can be fixed later on with a software upgrade?

Oh, I've no doubt it could be fixed. I totally doubt it will be fixed though.. .depends how many people actually wanted to use the camera and complain to their provider.
hey i've got the problem with taking a picture in the night modus. it just blocks and doesnt react to anything anymore, does anyone recognize this problem and knows how to solve it?
please let me know

yup i get that too

Not having any such problems so far, although I havent hammered the camera as such but every time I have used it its been fine. Took a few pics and some vids.
I just remembered: I think I was getting this problem all the time while I had the capture size set to 1 megapixel. Reducing it to 640 x 480 seemed to help. (You won't be missing much with this camera anyway!)
Mines set to 1m. Its not the best camera in the world, but it does its job.
Since setting to 640x480 i have not had the problem.

Camera auto focus issue

Whenever i open my camera app, the displayed image will not auto focus- it remains blurry no matter how long i allow it to readjust. The only way i can get it to focus is by shaking the phone vigorously- then it instantly auto focuses. Anyone else experience this or other problems focusing?
Has this always happened? Did you just get the phone?
Sent from my SM-N910U
i got it about 2 weeks ago, and i'm not sure if its always been this way- i never messed with the camera until after i rooted & flashed a new rom. But i do notice the problem on 2 separate note 4's, so i'm wondering if this is a rom specific issue or something others have noticed as well
Try using a third party camera app and see if it makes a difference.

Same thing is happening with my wife's Note 4 camera. Tried DL'ing 3rd party apps, and that didn't work. Shaking it vigorously for about a minute did work, but who wants to do that every time you need to take a pic, especially since we have a 1 yr old. Anyone have any luck with settings? I don't want to have to go back and return the phone, if i can help it.
Glad I'm not alone with focusing problems...
Here is my topic : Note 4 camera won't lock focus + blurry edges on pictures with far focus
Best regards,
Chris.
Problem with initial autofocus
I have the same issue with autofocus. When I open my camera is out of focus. When I a shake the camera it goes into autofocus. This has happen every time so far. I just purchased my a note from an ATT store on Dec 19th. I read on another forum a user sent his back to be fixed. They said it was a software update issue. My question is will it be released to every one soon?
Same issue here. 1 week old note 4.
been using my phone for a month and this blurry back camera is happening lately !!! it was ok when I bought it !! really annoying
Wipe off your camera before opening the app. I'm serious. The rear camera has to be clean or it will try to focus on whatever is on the screen in "close up" mode. It even tries to focus in on fingerprints! I'm dead serious. This was bothering me for almost a whole month before I figured it out.
A lot of you may have already messed with settings, etc. So, reset your camera settings to default, close your camera app (completely by clearing it in recently used apps) and then clean your lens and launch the camera app.
Felt like an idiot after struggling with this so long. Now I just know I have to wipe the lens off before launching the app every time.

This does not fix the issue we are experiencing.
Unfortunately, it's a hardware issue and you need a replacement. You can tap the phone on your hand and it will focus correctly for awhile but it needs to be replaced.
Note 4 af issue
Besides shaking, i noticed it needs sufficient light for it to be calibrated properly. And of course this is only temporary. Not sure if there is a fix for this problem. Bummer
i had issue with kitkat but only for a object in movement. It does not focus object. i compared camera with a Xperia Z1 and it seems to be better than note 4.
I've got the same problem when shooting in macro , the problem is gone when i've updated on lollipop.

You have right. I am waiting for new note 4 from Samsung.
Yes ur right. But this problem started after upgrading to lollipop
Hi, I also have this issue. In the past I never got this issue. I am not sure if this happen after upgrade to Lollipop or not.
But I believe it is not hardware problem as it not happen all the time.
I open camera app and it cannot focus for a while, then I exit from camera, and re-open it again immediately, it can focus.
If I lock and left the phone for a while, let say 5 minutes, and open camera again, the issue come back again.
Is this because software issue like the camera app need to prepare something in background before ready to focus (causing lag before focus) and when we put it to sleep( lock the phone and left for a while) then we open it again and it need to prepare again.
My work around is, if I face camera focus lag, I immediately exit camera app (pressing home or back button ) and re-open camera again and it no lag on focus!
Hope this help you.

Camera constantly refocuses when taking video

Hey guys, so I've been loving the phone in almost every way until today when I finally used it to take video for the first time. I bought a tripod attachment for my MXPE and was trying to film a short video of me talking in front of a blank white wall. When I went back to look, the video was constantly refocusing with a terrible zoom in/out effect. Now that I've done some testing it happens whether on a tripod, or in my hand. Even on a static background, it will eventually refocus. If there's any movement, whether I'm panning from side to side or something is moving on the video it will refocus. Here's a short example. Don't be fooled by thinking I'm doing some crazy trick with my hand here, it will noticeably refocus for any reason, including me just moving my hands while talking in front of it. Also keep in mind the phone is on a stable tripod, so any movement is entirely the camera or software. I just didn't want to get on camera or show significant parts of where I live. I've searched to see if anyone else has this problem and unfortunately all I found was a reddit thread with almost no responses. I should say I'm on stock, no modifications to my phone. The camera is set to save to internal memory so micro sd shenanigans aren't a factor either. I've used the stock app, Google Camera and Open Camera and they all exhibit this refocusing behavior.
So what's up, are other people experiencing this also, or is my otherwise great phone working with a somehow busted camera? It takes photos just fine, though now that I think about it, it does the same zoom in/out refocusing when I move the camera photo mode too. I remember trying to take a picture of a spider and the camera wouldn't stop trying to focus long enough for me to get a clear shot. Is this a software deal, or do I need to talk to Motorola? If it's a software deal, why is no one else talking about this?
Edit: I used the "focus lock" shortcut in Open Camera and was able to make it stop. But that means I can't use the default app or Google Camera. What the heck guys?
Its an issue in low light (indoors) when the subject moves. I submitted a complaint with video sample on the official forums and moto responded it was expected for thr camera to re-search for focus when the subject moves.
However I later received an email from the moto camera team asking them for more information which I provided. Who knows maybe they are trying to improve it.
This issue exists on the nexus 6 also and is much worse btw.
I've made the same test and got similar results.
It seems that each time a new element appears the camera tends to change the focus, it looks like it trying to adapt to the new situation.
I'm also no happy with this issue.
Please keep posting if there's any news from Motorola.
Yes, definitely. I shoot a lot of videos of people playing piano, and it's constantly refocusing because the hands never stop moving. :/
Hopefully, this will be fixed in the future.
I have been having the exact same problem recently. For me, it's not even when the subject is moving. Take this video of my son for example ( drive.google.com/file/d/12BqfnL7OoEvV3CSWim-OCgxiHID4mrMeFQ/view ). Notice that it keeps refocusing even though he and the camera are barely moving. There seemed to be plenty of light coming in the window. Is there no way to fix this?
FYI, I finally contacted Motorola Support about this issue because it is so bad, in my case, and they instructed me to send in my phone for repair. Twelve days later, I receive my phone back, and the camera still has issues with focusing while using the camera. I wrote them back to find out what they are going to do now, so I will update here when I hear back. This is SO FRUSTRATING. I would not advise buying a Moto X Pure for the time-being, if you want a functioning video camera.
You can lock focus on the stock camera app by long pressing the focus bracket. I don't know if this was added recently but I found this thread among several others on google search and none of them mentioned it. Cheers!
I forgot to update here after my debacle finished.
Motorola Support had me send in my phone again soon after I got it back from them the first time. I asked them why nothing changed with the phone, and the tech said they mis-marked the problem in their system as a problem with the flash. /sigh So all they did was replace the flash and return the phone. What a waste.
The next time I sent in the phone, they just went ahead and replaced the phone entirely. I got back the new phone, and guess what? Exact. Same. Problem.
I finally posted the video on YouTube where the camera constantly refocuses, and a user suggested downloading a totally different camera app, like "Camera MX." I did so, and immediately noticed a huge difference! I couldn't believe the majority of the focusing problem was caused by Motorola's buggy Camera app, but that does seem to be the case. Unbelievable.
So if you have this problem, download another camera app like "Camera MX," and it should help the refocusing problem a ton.

I really appreciate your hard work. :good:

OK, thanks guys. I think it will be released soon =)
About camera: Yes, the capture photos mode needs to be improved. But the fact that the camera works on Marshmallow, it is already a good work (thanks to Otto Juntunen for it).
By the way, the capture photos can works in third-party camera apps such as Camera MX or Camera Pro HD. You can try that.

You are genius, finally we got Camera on MM
Just downloaded it and will report back after using it tomorrow at work etc.
After a night, CPU management seems strange: the temperature varies between 30 ° and 54 ° depending on the processor occupation, without an app is launched (almost idle state)

Will the Google's Camera app work here? Thanks in advance!
Camera works but pictures do not get saved. Tried Snap, Google, MX, FV-5 cameras. Battery life is horrible, 11 mins onscreen time and 6hrs in standby took around 60% battery. Tried modifying camera permissions but didnt do the trick. All in all it is a progress because of the camera but rom is very WIP. Thanks Dev!
The only camera that takes pictures and saves it is the one from Facebook Messenger app. Others that i tried, didn't work. Also, yes, the battery just flies off ...in 5 hours stand by and 1 hour on screen i got 5%.
Bug if is active WakeLocks in Advanced: Wi-Fi random shortly disconnecting after interval 4-10min Wi-Fi ON/2-4sec. Wi-Fi DISCONNECT and RECONNECT.
@Chippa_a can i get a link to your source code please?
I also notice random cuts during conversations (it can cut after 30 seconds or 5 minutes) = network connection is interrupted and returns 2 seconds after (blank network icon for 2 seconds)
Also found out there's no hotspot, the quick settings icon does nothing. Not so important but i just wanted to let you know.

Did I break my camera?

I've been using an Arnova GCAM port that has been great and haven't updated my phone to Pie, but suddenly as of today I can't focus on anything more than about a meter away. I haven't done anything to the software or OS recently but I dropped the phone a few days ago and wonder if I've damaged the camera - would that explain the issue? Switching back to the stock cam doesn't help unless I switch it to portrait mode - that allows better focus at 3 meters or so, which is not good in regular mode. I tried a few different Arnova versions tonight with no improvement. Any suggestions?
The output from Camera2 probe shows the following:
Hardware Level Support Category
√ Level 3
X Full
X Limited
X Legacy
(all ticked in Exposure)
Focus
√ Manual focus
√ Auto focus
√ Auto focus macro
√ Auto focus continuous picture
√ Auto focus continuous video
X Auto focus EDOF
Maybe try to switch to manual mode in stock camera app and then try to adjust focus (from micro to infinity)

I tried that, and over the whole range it only focussed really close (10 - 15 cm away) and the focus didn't change when I moved the slider across; even when focus was set at infinity, only an object close to the camera was sharp. I guess that's a hardware issue then - any ideas?

No, it looks fine.
I dont know, it is possible that when you droped it, you jamed auto focus mechanism. Try to factory reset and if even that does not work, take it to service center
After watching quite a few videos on this, I used the technique of tapping/knocking around the camera module to try to loosen up a stuck motor. Eventually this worked! Dropping the camera must have caused something to get stuck, and the tapping allowed that to un-stick.

Nice to read that you have resolved your camera issues.
I reckon your device is still on Oreo and Gcam is still working fine like it always does.
Avoid upgrading your device to pie 9 which is simply atrocious/horrible/buggy.

Yeah, I haven't updated due to the issues I've read about with Pie - everything works now and I can't be bothered waiting for fixes to newer versions.
