[Q] Defy+ Mac Address Unavaiable - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just flashed the CM10 on my Defy+ (red lens), and now I'm stuck on "Turning wi-fi on".
After some research (like the whole night looking into it) I've found that my MAC Address is unavaiable, and I can't run the idme \? method, so I'm pretty low on options.
I'm running a MB526 (red lens)
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9-AeroKernel [email protected]
CyanogenMod version 10-20130709-NIGHTLY-mb526
I've got IMEI and IMEI SV working (somewhat it seemed relevant in other posts)
What can I do to make my wi-fi work?
Thanks in advance, pretty awesome community here, first time flashing and I've been able to find almost everything I needed here.

Full wipe and flash again.

Ok, just did a full wipe (cache, data, system and dalvik) before flashing again, still no luck, no Mac Address and still stuck on "Turning wi-fi on".

Usually this works for me. Are you sure you are using minimal gapps?

I'm sure, I've tried flashing with both minimal gapps and the version with the google now also, both didn't work.

Tried reflashing, still not working, does anyone got a better idea?

Trying to find my NVS file, but I can't seem to find it.
IMEI is still there, but no NVS file

Tried to find my imed, or nvram, it would be nice if someone with experience could help me find the nvs of this rom so I could take a look, I'm pretty sure the error is in there. Ghost Mac app is not working to bypass the problem either, which I think it's because there is no file to alter.

[Help] W-lan

Hiho guys,
didnt know where to ask else just got this big problem and hope one of you can help me ! (please no need posts like "use search option" ... used it ... didnt help)
Since 1-2 weeks my wlan doesnt work. worked perfectly before but now it doesnt.
first thought its cause of rixtas theme but than I switched from lightning+theme to checkrom v4 full wipe ... still didnt work
now I flashed stock rom ki4 and after it kh3(definitely worked on this one about 2 weeks ago) ... still doesnt work.
The Problem described is:
I hit the connect to W-lan botton ... it tries to connect and then on settings (wlan) is an "error" written below the wlan turn on button
or
It just switches wlan on ... tries to find networks but after about 5 secounds it just turns off again as never anything happened (wlan of course are available ... no mac or anything (open and secured wlans tested))
current system:
lightning 6.1 (kh3) - rixtas black chrome - rage kernel - titanium backup pro (maybe there is something wrong?!? but still after full wipe and stock rom?!?)
really hope that someone can help me !!!
greetz
You have to be more precise in your description. There is no "W-lan botton" on my phone! Infact there is nothing labeled "W-lan" either.
Do you mean the "WPS button connection" in "Wi-Fi Settings"? I never use that button but instead prefer to manually enter the details myself have you tried that?
Are you sure this is not a problem with your router setup? Have you tried connecting to a different WiFi router? (Edit: reread your post - answer yes!)

I meant: settings -> wifi -> wlan-settings (below offline-modus) and there on the top I can turn wlan on or of ... if I try to turn it on it sometimes just give me an error written below wlan or other times it turns on... scans for networks ... an just turnsoff again after a few secounds ... its definitely a problem on the phone not on the router
it there a possibilty to read the error msg ?!? ... or to test the hardware if it works or is broken?
hmm doesnt anybody know something about this problem ?!? or possibilities to solve it ?
Just the usual - revert everything back to stock with a complete wipe/ hard reset of everything and if still faulty return under warranty.
Your symptoms sound more like software than hardware, but if you are able to completely revert the phone back to it's factory state then if it still does not work it must be a hardware fault.

Thinking about it, a similar thing happened on one of our work development phones. It refused to connect. I found the problem by run "adb logcat" from the PC command prompt with the phone in debug mode. (Or use the catlog app) there was an helpful error message. I ended up deleting (renaming to be safe) one of the network configuration files. A new config file was then automatically re-generated and the network started working again! I can't remember which file it was but it contained all the saved network connections names in a text file.

tried logcat and log collector but I guess I need some advises on this ones ...
logcat: I hit record ... collect filename ... than it says that its recording and one second later it saved (so stoped already ) ... nothing is in the logs ...
log collector just gives me:

I still need help please
Did you try flashing stock kernel? Did you try full wipe (/wipe system, /wipe data, /wipe cache, /wipe dalvik-cache)?
I am having the exact same problem as Weste90 on my i9100.
When I turn on WiFi, it stays on for a 9-10 secs and turns itself off automatically.
I am using the official firmware. I tried using 2.3.5 (installed using odin from samfirmware.com) and the same problem remained.
Now i am back to KF3 (Installed by Kies) . Details in screenshots...
I have tried Factory reset and clearing cache (by volume up+home+power button menu).
Still no luck. Any ideas?
Both posters with problems please confirm that you have done the _four_ wipes suggested by xzx0O0.
Please try again the catlog app, there should be loads of logs in it.
also try installing the "Wifi Analyzer" app and post a screen shot.
I still think this is a software issue rather than hardware.

done it like he said already ... didnt help ... and the prob with log is that I probably use it wrong ... it just asks me how to call the file ... but saves instantly after it and doesnt record ...
edit:
just tried wifi analyzer ... this app say me when I start it that it needs connected wifi ... tries to connect permanent ... say me again that it needs connected wifi and so it goes on

Wifi analyzer works fine for me without being connected to a wifi router see sceen shot.
So does catlog. If you really can't get catlog working download the Android sdk to your PC and run adb.
Maybe it is a hardware fault.

so flashed back to complete stock ke4 ... wifi analyzer still strikes it service ... just tries permanent to connect to wifi ...
but I got catlog running ! ... screenshots coming soon

[Q] Quarx CM9 not not saving settings?

Hi, I have a red lense Defy and have just flashed latest Quarx nightly per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100 but everytime I reboot the phone it takes about 90s to start, and all my settings (wifi, baseband, email etc) have been forgotten - the phone start as if it's a brand new install. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? I have tried reinstalling a few times with no luck. otherwise the rom works perfectly.

I'm having the same problem. Anybody has any clue to fix this?
You may have to flash your stock SBF using RSDLite as upgrading to Cyanogenmod ROMS only writes the system partition. Maybe the other partitions have got corrupted.
I'm not sure though.

wifi on cm10 and cm 10.1 not working at all

Hi, maybe someone has a clue:
I seem to be the only one who can't use cm10 because wifi is just not working. On cm10 it's dropping out all the time as soon as data gets transfrerred (i.e. app download) and on cm10.1 its not even dropping. there is no data throughput whatsoever.
If you need more info, just tell me which one and I'll post it. I'm desperate.
Any ideas?
Assuming you have made a clean install, with system and data wiped as well, you should check your router configuration, try changing channel and/or security parameters
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
thanks for the suggestion. I don't have access to all the routers settings but I tried to use one even without security and the drop outs still appeared. Working well on m7.
I just realise: At the beginning of a fresh build it sometimes happens that wifi works for a couple of MB and suddenly starts dropping.
Is the Wi-Fi network used by many persons at a time? More than a couple of devices connected may cause problems because the new Wi-Fi drivers starts jamming devices, and sometimes as a result the Wi-Fi network is unable to deliver data.
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
I wouldn't say so. Not to many and it didn't work with the old wifi driver on cm10 either. The wifi keeps working for other parties in the network - so it is not jammed.
I might try again with a new build but I'm pretty hopeless...
Here is a long post about what I tried so far:

Hi I'm sorry to bother again.
I tried to figure out whats wrong with the wifi bug I'm having: constant drop outs while using any kind of wifi traffic.
Good news:
it worked well at home with my fritzbox router. (only tried 3-4 app downloads) > after a short while it stopped working
Bad news:
in my studio we got a different router and there I got the drop outs.
What I tried so far without luck (always a reboot in between):
disable Draft-N in wpa_supplicant
compared wpa_supplicant but it's the same as in cm7
delete rgnt from system/bin
change build.prop to use all 14 channels > ro.wifi.channels=14
tried changing PowerSavePowerLevel = 0 to 1
copied tiwlan.ini from cm7 backup because a few settings are different
tried 12-12-05 Quarx build
tried 12-10-18 build (but got a bootloop and stopped trying)
tried newest 13-03-07 build
ADDED tried 13-04-09 build
tried newest build and did another factory reset AFTER installing the ROM.
searched the web and found that maybe it might have something to do with wpa2, but the router at home uses wpa2/wpa (which means it's wpa2 as well or not?) and NO I cannot change the routers settings and I don't think it is a solution because i can use but not access like a dozen routers.
checked dmesg: in the TIWLAN section after the wifi connection it says: "iface_stat: stat_update() tiwlan0 not found
is it in any way possible that some settings change because I plugged usb "charge only" in while trying to download from Playstore? because it seems that dmesg spits somthing out regarding usb... (I'm can't really read/understand the output though)
oh and btw. first connection was fine in my last try: I could update Gmail, then I connected my usb and drop outs began. but I don't think it's related.
ADDED change to static IP
ADDED change regional code in wifi settings (w/o knowing what that actually does)
ADDED tried factory reset from stock, flash sbf and start from scratch.
Things I didn't try (and don't know if it would make any sense):
replace tiwlan_drv.ko
change vsel

It may be something elementary, but I presume Wi-Fi optimization is configured properly right?(IT MUST BE DISABLED)
I have had this issue but setting channel manually fixed it for me. This issue I had only on jb and with a specific router only. All others work properly on every channel.
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
Damn I can't just change all the channels in all the wifi networks I'm allowed to use... but I will try that with my own one.
I did not try to change channels, yet but I tried once more to start from scratch: wipe from stock / flash sbf / install cm10 and so on..
Reason: Someone hinted the stock wipe could help. But here is the problem:
Everytime I try to wipe from stock (before or after flashing sbf) I get the old "E:can't mount cache:recovery/..." ERROR. Something seems to be wrong and I wonder if that could prevent my wifi from working (maybe data is still unwiped...)
Any more ideas?
Stock recovery can't handle ext4, hence the read errors.
Stock recovery wipe will not help if custom recovery data wipe does not help. You can also try manually deleting the Wi-Fi folder in the data partition.
You'll have to try changing channels eventually, I think.
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
thats a misunderstanding:
I know that stock recovery can't handle ext4. My working system is cm7 so I stockwiped from cm7 and still couldn't get rid of the errors. I even checked the filesystem with e2fsck but everything seems to be ok. And I can install everything so... I don't know.
If your current rom is cm7 then you shouldn't get the error messages in stock recovery. I assume you've flashed a sbf and still gotten this error. You can try enabling the blank flash option from rsdlite.
You can verify whether data is wiped or not by wiping in custom recovery, and then cross checking with aroma file manager(flashable) to ensure data is wiped. If not then you have some kind of hardware eMMC problem which somehow triggers the Wi-Fi problem probably because of leftover Wi-Fi files and modules.
Also, couple of people have had luck flashing a newer sbf like dfp 231(with higher bl version), which seems to work in some cases for similar problems. Beware of the no downgrade issue in these recent sbfs.
And what misunderstanding are you talking about?

I can't waste another day on hunting the /cache problem right now because of work, but as soon as I have more time I'll try a little more.
Here is some news from me: I had the chance to try it on another wifi router last night and behold: It worked nearly flawless.. a few hickups I think, but it worked. That means WIFI is not broken, but there must be some software-related problem/ or some network weirdness.

Just that stock over ext4 thing. Nevermind.
Thank you for helping. I wonder if there is a way to find the problem.
Did you check the channel that particular Wi-Fi router operated at? Same as or different than the problematic routers ? Because if so then we have narrowed the problem down
Sorry for the scary part

mac address changing
can someone help me.. im using Nougat rom Stable 3 for Jiayu S3 MTK6752.. my wifi mac address always changes when im rebooting.. and i need to connect to the wifi again when that happens.. can someone help me on this? thanks
it has been covered again. people with that phenomenon just do something wrong with wiping data.
Anyway now that you are into this state. Take a backup wipe for factory reset from twrp and try to install RC4 from recovery. Check if you have the same behavior with the WiFi mac address and report.
If ok, then try to wipe data/cache /dalvik, and install 7.1 stable 3 again.
Used TapaTalk with JiaYu S3
Here same with wrong MAC Address 02:00:00:00:00:00. Everything began when I rolled back to RC5 from Nougat to try fix WiFi dropdown because of conflictive 00:80... MAC Address, as detected in other forum threads . I did it with Flash Tool and using "Firmware upgrade" option. Everything was good, and WiFi was as stable as I wanted. So, when I came back to Nougat 7.1.1 via Recovery, firstly everything was good, but one day I had to remove battery for its replacement. When I switched on again... OPS... No WiFi and BT and MAC Address 02:00:00:00:00:00 Of Death.
Since then, I have to make all the process again (Flash Tool to RC5, then Recovery to Nougat and reinstall and configure apps and accounts) to make WiFi restores 00:80... MAC again and work again. But now, everytime I have to do a reboot and/on shutdown it's like a russian roulete: sometimes WiFi/BT breaks again. And this happens ALWAYS when I remove battery.
I have tried from "soft" solutions (installing ChameleMAC, but just solved the problem once) and even "hard" ones (using Flash Tool in 'Format all+Download' mode, and recovering IMEI later). But nothing makes to keep MAC address stable and fixed.
Just I think some new things to try. For example, use the 'Format whole flash' option, and format Bootloader too, but I am afraid to brick device definetively (there is no much clear documentation about that aggresive format for Jiayu S3 or in other devices). Or maybe I am wrong by using RC5 everytime (I tried one time to rollback Kitkat Stock ROM, but it didn't boot and I was sure I chose right ROM, S3A 16gb; I had to 'revive' device entering in META mode).
I am not so expert about this device, but my diagnostic is, maybe NVRAM corruption. I have not find any documentation about similar problem and how to restore NVRAM in order to fix that kind of issues that 'rolling back to RC5' does not work.
So, do you have any ideas about how to solve hardly this issue? Or am I condemned to not to open or switch off my device nevermore ?
Thanks in advance!

Check to install the RC5 Repacked that exists also as thread here in xda. Then boot at least once into the RC5 and be sure wifi and Bluetooth are working.
Then install the proposed TWRP that is mention in FAQ of the madOS thread for installing 7.1.X
P/S. There are ppl that mentioned that when enabling device encryption then they loose the Wi-Fi. And when they disable it again, Wi-Fi is working normally!!!

Thanks,
1 use SP Flash Tool flash replace Recovery to MAD TWRP 3.1.1-0 and the latest LP5.1.1 RC5 and ,the WLAN and BT is fine,
2 wipe the artcache/cache/system/data/Internal storage,
3 format DATA
4 unmount /system
5 flash the MAD OS v11 2017/05/27 ,bean GApps,SuperSU 2.8.2 at once
then WLAN MAC Address 02:00:00:00:00:00,BT not work
IF I flash other ROM(the RR7.1.2 OR Lineage OS 7.1.2) use the same steps, the WLAN and BT is just fine

finally,MAD OS v11,i try to removed battery 24 hours, the WLAN MAC and BT MAC come back, problem solved

[SOLVED] WiFi Completely Broken …

Below is my original post; however, I've since solved the problem. In an effort to help others with the same problem, I've written a Guide, which should explain exactly what to do if your WiFi is suddenly "broken" due to flashing issues.
Here's the link: OnePlus 5 WiFi Fix
Many thanks to everyone who offered help, especially subaash and hallo dare, who put me in the right direction.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings, everyone.
Sadly, for specific reasons unknown, my WiFi appears to be completely broken.
Over the last few days I've gone "flash happy" by trying several Oreo ROMs for my OP5. Some worked while others just froze at the boot animation.
Unfortunately, shortly after flashing the xXx-NoLimits Oreo ROM, which got me to the initial set-up screen, my WiFi would not connect. So, I then bypassed the WiFi part and finished the set-up. Everything seemed to be working very well, but I could not get WiFi to work.
Yes, I could engage the Wifi slider to the ON position, and there would be a list of SSIDs; however, oftentimes even my 2 SSIDs would not display. When they did, and I tried to connect, I would see the connection attempt, but it would not complete the connection. Only the word "saved" would be shown under the SSID name. Then it would automatically try to reconnect, but without success.
I've tried virtually everything I can think of to solve the problem, but I can't connect to WiFi.
All other communications work, i.e., Bluetooth, Data, making and receiving calls. It's ONLY the Wifi that's not working.
Yes, I completely wiped my device and re-installed the original OxygenOS (4.5.14), but that didn't work. I also tried completely wiping the device and then installing that latest OxygenOS v4.5.15, but that didn't solve the problem, either.
I went back and flashed all the previous custom ROMs in an attempt to see if any of them would work, but nothing. I tried NitrogenOS, HalogenOS, Liquid Remix, xXx NoLimits, and they all could not connect to WiFi.
I even tried a few WiFi Fix apps on Google Play, but they didn't work, either.
Oh, yes … I even checked my router. It's perfectly fine. I can get WiFi on my laptop without a problem. Furthermore, when I went to a local coffee shop this morning that provides free WiFi, my phone could not connect, just like at home.
Does anyone have ANY suggestions?
Thank you,
Peter
I would say this is to do with your firmware/modem.
I did have this issue on a non Oreo ROM and in the end I just did a dirty flash and it worked.

I've tried flashing both the 4.5.14 and 4.5.15 firmware, with no luck; however, I accidentally deleted my modem nandroid about a week ago.
Do you know where I might find a flashable modem file?

Addendum: I found the following site for Firmware & Modems:
https://www.jamal2367.com/?dir=OnePlus 5/Firmware + Modems/Android 7.1.1/OxygenOS
I'll try flashing them and report back.
Addendum 2: NOPE! Didn't work. I flashed a few different firmware & modems, 4.5.13, 4.5.14 and 4.5.15, but WiFi is still broken. Yes, I first flashed the appropriate OS version before flashing the firmware and modem. In other words, I always matched the OS version with the firmware & modem version, but no success. Everything works except WiFi. Hmm, still stumped.

Do you know where I might find a flashable modem file?
Thanks,
Peter

Careful with modems mate. There's a thread here on XDA containing modems and firmwares..just make sure you get the right one.

Thanks! I'm quite aware of the need for caution with modems. Sadly, though, it didn't solve the problem.

Sadly, no. I've tried absolutely everything I can think of, all without success. It's very frustrating because absolutely everything else works, except WiFi.
All I can do now is wait for suggestions from others, or take the phone to a repair shop (which I'm hesitant to do).
Peter
Thanks for replying. If you happen to get it sorted, please let me know. I will do likewise if I manage to fix it. Thanks
Try reflashing the rom. Not sure why, but that happened to me and reflashing the rom fixed it.

Done that already, tried old roms of OOS and Oreo, but still no joy. Heads wrecked with it.

Do you have a full rom backup? I mean of the last working rom you had before all the flashing? If so, from a full stock rom (1.53gb or close) of the same build as the backup (ie... 4.5.14) wipe and flash that rom, then wipe and restore the backup you have if the last working rom. If they doesn't work I think you're likely looking at a hardware issue.

Ok I done that, and now, wifi is still doing the same thing and under the network i pick it just goes to saved and then says disabled under it.

Same problem but only on my 5GHz network and dont know how to fix
PeterGuru said:
Thank you,
Peter

So first of all the reason why it is broken is because of the oreo firmware that you flashed earlier. Now what you should do is flash stock recovery and flash the oreo build and boot it up and running. Once you've done that flash the rollback rom (which suppose to downgrade your oreo firmware to nougat firmware). Once you've done it basically it fixes you're wifi issue.

There's a button for that son..
Also the firmware / modem will be the problem, either upgrading or rolling back..either way it'll be the cause.

Okay, let me first answer a couple of questions. Like I said in my first post, I DID flash the original ROM, as well as other OEM OxygenOS ROMs, all without success. Yes, I used the exact same ROM that was working perfectly before the problem. Yes, I also had a FULL Nandroid of the working system, but restoring that also did nothing to solve the problem.
Okay, with that out of the way, I went to a repair shop this morning to try and solve the problem. It was unsuccessful. The technician said it's unlikely to be hardware related because I can still get the phone to recognize all local SSIDs. I simply can't connect to any of them. Just like hallo dare said in his post a few back, when I try to connect to my SSID, it tries to connect for a second or two, and then it just shows "saved" and wifi is disabled.
So, for now I'm still completely stumped.

Okay, I will do exactly what subaash said and report back. I, too, agree that it's probably software related, which is why I'm actively attacking this issue.
Be back as soon as I can.

P.S. "Son?" Hmm, I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm older than you (will be 60 in March).
Success ... maybe?
Well, well. It appears the previous suggestions were correct. So far it's successful, but I haven't quite finished the initial set-up. All I can say is that WiFi is working, and I'm grateful for that.
However, it was a frightening ordeal. At one point I thought my device was bricked, and I didn't know what to do. However, with some thought, I was able to solve the problem.
Good news, though, is that I DID NOT have to revert back to Nougat. I'm now running Oxygen Oreo 8.0.0 Open Beta 2.
I will provide a detailed instructions of what I did a bit later. I simply want to get everything up-and-running, which could take a few hours.
Here's an abbreviated version:
Downloaded Oxygen Oreo 8.0.0 Open Beta 1 from here:
http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-5/oneplus_5_oxygenos_openbeta_1/
Downloaded Stock Recovery from Post #2 here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003
Copied both files above to root of device internal storage
Reboot into TWRP recovery
Flashed stock recovery in TWRP
Reboot into stock recovery
COMPLETELY Wiped the entire system ... absolutely everything ... including internal storage. This is where I had the initial problem. I did not wipe everything, including internal storage, and I ended up with a mixture of jumbled numbers and letters when looking at the file structure.
Using ADB Sideload within the stock recovery, I "moved/flashed" the ROM ZIP to the device
After successful sideload, I said yes to installing the ROM
The ROM then installed and, voila, I'm at the initial set-up screen.
Okay, that's all for now. I'll be back later.
Peter
Format data resolves the problem (at least with me...)
