[Mod Request]Major Challenging issue: the screen brightness lvls! on direct sunlight

One major Challenging issue, in my opinion,is the screen brightness levels

In this interesting link CNET has been doing Screens test of : Galaxy Note 2 vs. Apple iPhone 5
It would be GR8 if we can "custom control mega boost brightness" upon individual use....
and try to get close to iphone 5 outdoor brightness

This confirms my finding that Note 2 no longer has the "immeasurable" black levels like that in S1 and S2! They are more like this year's Panasonic Plasma TVs which is quite a disappointment as I have got used to the true blacks in S1 and S2 and they look quite gray and underwhelming in Note 2 even if latter has better accuracy and resolution. Also the viewing angles are significantly compromised with off axis bluish tint which dint exist in S1 or S2 either. Poor show Samsung!

both are good..

Since 4 is obviously a bigger number than 2, I would test them both yourself and then decide which you like best.

Personally I will go for note2..
There isn't any game that lags in note2
Battery-3100mah, undoubtedly above good
processor-very good(quad core)
Ram-2gb (same as s4)
Why not s4? Here's why-
Expensive than note2
Poor battery compared to note2
Phone heats up very quickly on hard gaming(it becomes so hot u can't even touch it)
Small screen(depends on u)
Not actual octa core (2Xquad core)
Rest is ur decision..I investigated a lot before choosing among both and then bought note2

S4 is more powerful in benchmark results so i guess it will be good for gaming
5 inch screen is not too small lol and also screen resolution of S4 is 1020 while its 720 in note 2
S4 is easy to hold with one hand for one hand operation i.e typing/texting
the only advantage of note is bigger battery and extra 0.5 inch screen

S4 cause it has better CPU and more important a faaar better gpu(the essential part for gaming) that support also OpenGL 3.0 +better display.
Note 2 also has good points (bigger screen and better battery) but overall the s4 is better for games.

Well the S4 has more than twice as many pixels to shuffle around so it really needs the extra power. While the S4 has a sharper display (441ppi vs 265ppi) the Note2 is slightly bigger (5,5" vs 5.0"). If you have no need for the S-Pen I'd say, go with the S4... just make sure to keep a spare battery available.

Anyway I'd suggest you to wait for the s4 advanced,that will have a massively better gpu and a 20/25% better CPU(s800) or if you can get the the s4 lte-a (same as the s4 advanced but already on the market, HK and Korea only) that it is also 32gb ver.
IMO the best thing to do is wait a month to buy the s800 devices that will come out(Xperia z1,lg g2, note 3, nexus "5", and the htc one max)

The battery on the Note 2 will easily last more than a full day even if you use your phone a lot. When I had the s4 it struggled to get to the end of the day. The 1080p screen uses a lot more juice than the 720p on the Note.
S4 is more powerful for gaming though that being said the Note 2 is still a beast.

I've said this before, and I'll say this again,. you won't notice a difference in 720p vs 1080p unless you obsess over it and has a perfect vision. I have seen nothing different comparing both hand in hand, text is slightly crisper if you are being very anal about it. What you ought to consider though is price, if you use it for gaming, and the screen real estate vs one handed use.

But you have to consider that most games are played at 720p even on the sgs4 so the difference(even at native resolution) is huge.

Actually the case is not as simple as "1080p is 2.25 times more pixels than 720p"..
Let's count Sub-pixels on Note 2; there are 3 sub-pixel for each pixel thus giving us the number of 3 x 720 x 1280 = 2764800
Let's count sub-pixels on S4; there are one blue sub-pixel for every pixel and there are one red and green sub-pixel for every two! pixels giving us the number 1920 x 1080 = 2073600 blue sub-pixels, 1920 x 1080 x 2(for red+green)/2(for sub-pixel sharing)=2073600.
In total = 2073600+2073600=4147200 sub-pixels.
The expected ratio= 2.25
The real ratio= 4147200/2764800=1.5
Still, the GPU has to push every image rendering for a 1080p calculation. This is why the power is wasted. It calculates everything 2.25 times more than a 720p GPU just to be able to draw it inon a 1.5 times sharper screen.
I am not against a 720p pentile screen because it pushes the 300ppi barrier so it can be more sharper for human eye in certain conditions, however a 1080p pentile screen with a "false/fake" 441ppi is just overkill for both the battery and the GPU..

I had the same choice. But am not a big gamer.
Went for the note 2 because:
- better battery
- bigger screen
- S pen
- cheaper

There are obvious (minor) plusses and minuses to either one in terms of gaming. I think you should take everything that's been said and determine whats most important for you to have...bigger screen, more pixels, better CPU, etc. I game but wouldn't classify myself as a big gamer...I've used both and I think the experience is comparable.

For me is better Note 2 for play.. The bigger screen is a big help and is different to see. My friend, when they see me to play, say that like a different phone that theirs HTC one or GS4.. And also, with the same game, i don't see difference about power...

Get a PS3 or an XBOX 360

Ive gone to s4 from note 2. Not much difference gaming at the min. The screen is brighter on s4 and is sharper but I still miss note 2. Although im feeling better with size in pocket and like design better.
Would I go back to note 2? Yes easily.
Ps battery lasts all day on s4

Do you like to use MHL to output your phone's screen to a TV? If so, I very briefly got to try my Note 2 vs an S4 a few days ago and the latter struggled in Epic Citadel (as an example). In general terms the Note 2 felt slightly smoother everywhere when using MHL too (although the S4 can power the MHL adapter by itself which was quite a cool feature, though obviously the battery nose dived pretty quickly!).

I can't believe people complain about the resolution

In the Note 10.1 (2014) forum as well as a few other 10" tablet forums people complain about the fact the resolution on the 12.2 is the same as on 10.1" devices. I hadn't really thought much about it until tonight. I was sitting at my desktop which is a dual monitor setup. Desktop is a 27" iMac with a resolution of 2560x1440 and a gorgeous 27" widescreen Samsung monitor at it's max resolution of 1920x1080.
A pair of 27" monitors, one which lets me do very detailed pixel peeping in photoshop (iMac), and another which is so crisp and stunning, and still with very easy to read text (The Sammy). Neither of these 27" beautiful screens has as many pixels as our lil' tablet. I don't want this to be a debate regarding PenTile as that is not the point. Just saying that the resolution on my Note Pro blows away every desktop and laptop (as well as other tablets) I own.

People will complain about anything. Can't make everyone happy and some people think specs are more important then real world results. too bad for them. Love this tablet and couldn't imagine going back to a little 10 inch!

Yep. My beautiful full hd 60 inch tv is only 48 ppi and 1920x1080 pixels. Never complain

Supposely, Apple will release a Macbook Air 12 inch with "Retina" display. When I checked the resolution, it's the same as our Note Pro 12.2.
Samsung marketing department should have named our tablet the Galaxy Note 12.2 Retina LOL.

My 12.5" 1920x1080 laptop looks much sharper. My 12.2 is noticeably jagged at closer viewing distances, even on straight lines like the light brown line surrounding this reply box on XDA.
PenTile is the reason. I would much prefer a 1920x1200 RGB stripe screen over a 2560x1600 PenTile screen.

I have note pro p-901 and my wife has note 2014 p-601. Both of them have great resolution which is better than any laptop I have used...
And of course better resolution than Ipad air with retina display (my ex-tab)....
I like sammy tablets and I think Tab-S has a brilliant sharper screen than Note Pro...

I used to be very very worrying about the resolutions before I purchased this device. After I bought it, I have been satisfied with the resolutions.

With people having 2k res smart phones it seems the world is about numbers rather then immersion any more. I don't get also. I love the screen on this bad boy. I never understood the rat race on numbers and packing as many pixels into a small screen as possible. When will it get to a point of crazy, as in you wont be able to see the difference with the human eye..
Well by that time we will have robotic eyes and then complain that the screen in our new robo eyes are are not as pixel dense as the ones the billionairs have. :cyclops:
Now I do like bright colors alot so I love the look of samsungs s5 screen.. Over saturated colors are great to look at imo. Though 2k Samoled screen vs 1080p Samoled screen I prob wont really see the hype.. I will focus on the colors.

Would you be happy if the screen was 1280x800?
Put the Note 12.2's 2560x1600 screen next to a 12.5" laptop's 1920x1080 screen, display the same small text like on a website or document and see if you can tell the difference. It's not the resolution that's the problem, it's the pentile layout that makes it look jagged.

You really can't see the pixelation caused by the pentile layout? I can clearly see it on smaller text at normal viewing distances.
Just because your eyes can't see them doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Yes, I know my Note 3 is 1080p and the Note 4 is QHD.
However, I went to Best Buy today and placed my Note 3 side by side with the Note 4, I had a very hard time seeing difference.
I was expecting to be blown away by the QHD like when I compared side by side with Note 2 (720p) and Note 3.
Anyone have similar experience?
Is beyond 1080p not discernable?

I guess it depends. I can still see pixels on a 1080p screen on my S5. I couldn't on the Note 4.

did you try the sample movies on the note 4? thats the money right there. 4k video to show off the screen. the home screens are very pretty, but you'll definitely notice the difference watching a movie in 4k

It doesn't have much difference as far as i think it can be only judge by viewing HD videos on both phones..

They claim that Samsung achieved an outstanding color balance on Note 4 as opposed to any other phone they had out there. QHD vs HD is somwhat of a gimmick in my book though.

That is exactly when I see too. I do not see any difference in that small screen. I see a big difference on a 720p vs 1 080p on my 120" wall painted screen. I cant wait for 4K projector with real 4k content on my big screen.

This may be irrelevant but i got a question. I use to have the note 3 and now on g3...when I went to compare screen with note 4, the colors looked like they were BLEEDING out. Do you get that sense between the note 3 and the note 4? I'm assuming my eyes are now use to the screen of the g3 that the saturation of the samsung devices pop out more than they actually do.

I could see a difference in crispness or sharpness of images. I was impressed.

Screen on the Note 4 is a lot more vibrant and accurate. There's no oversharpening like on the G3.

I was pleasantly surprised with the N4 display compared to the three. Seemed brighter and crisper. I was surprisingly not impressed with the LG G3 screen. I though the brightness was down.

G3's screen isn't much good plus it suffers from oversharpening

I've been playing with google cardboard lately on my Note 3, and using the VR headest kindof magnifies the pixels, and the resolution at even the Note 3's 1080P actually looks pretty bad (Its blocky, and the pen-tile screen becomes visible, reds look awful.). The extra PPI on the Note 4 should help with that. Something to think about if you are going to try out VR on your phone. Occulus Rift is using a Note 4 screen for their DK2 for these very reasons.

DK2 uses the note 3 screen actually. I have one. After playing it you get used to It unless you read tiny text which can happen in a game like elite dangerous. Still the experience is awesome on the note 3 screen and I bet the note 4 screen will be pretty good as well

For me the reason is simple, it has more features and productive. My brother has the iphone 6+ and it felt
like using the my old iphone 5 except the 6+ is bigger.

for me really i dont know i just wanted to buy lg g flex 2 but i found it lag like hell
i tried to fet htc phaplet but did not find one with big scree
i bought note 4 with snapdragin 805
but really dont like heat so much and else lag sometimes
but i love the pen and the fantastic screen

The iPhone 6 is not a phablet
I have both the Note 4 & iPhone 6+
I use both about the same and change which is my daily driver every few days.
Hardware wise they are very different, but really that hasn't made much difference to me in my day to day use of either device as I tend to use the exact same apps on both devices.
Screenwise :- I honestly can't say I can see a difference between the 1080p screen v the 2k screen. Both just look like great screens - though the iPhones does get brighter and is easier to see in outside daylight. The Note 4's gets dimmer and more comfortable at nighttime.
Speakers :- the iPhone 6+ speaker is clearer than the Note 4's which can sound a little tinny and distorted at full volume.
Camera :- main cameras outside of megapixel differences are able to capture very similar results with neither being much better than the other. 1080p recording on iPhone 6+ does benefit with much better OIS over the Note 4 - however Note 4's 4k recording is some of the best 4k quality I've seen on a smartphone and clearly iPhone can't do that.
Removable storage and battery are nice to have but aren't deal breakers for me.
Note 4 main benefits are mainly the S-Pen features for me. I can doodle / etch a picture on the fly. I can scribble down notes quickly.
The customisability is too its strength.
IPhone 6+ strength is its software consistency and fluidity.
People will tell you that Note 4 is better at multitasking and iPhone 6+ is terrible because of less ram and yet on current lollipop builds I find it's the iPhone 6+ that handles multitasking better despite 3x less ram.
On KitKat they are similar in my daily experience but with a nudge to the Note 4.
Here's my Lollipop experience. Notice the Note 4 has to refresh app content in many applications and the iPhone 6+ doesn't despite less ram. Most of these were Google apps that I use every day.
Battery wise they are similar too but with nudge this time going to iPhone 6+
IPhone 6 version is poor battery wise compared to either.
Overall I think both a great handsets and a person will be served greatly by either (or both as I am).....
Buy in confidence whichever you choose.

yeah i can say iphone 6+'s front camera is better than note 4. i find it brighter and clearer compared to our phone but the main camera is way better than the iphone

Sorry my mistake, I thought you were talking about rear camera, I'm dyslexic.

I think it depends on what and how you use your smart phone...
I have moved thru many phones. And always went back to the note series.
My reasons:
Big screen - really struggle with anything smaller than 5.5 inch
S-pen - love the note taking and has been massively improved for handwriting recognition in the note 4 compared to previous notes
Camera - i have used and compared with S5, iPhone 6 and 6+, LG g3, lumia 930 and HTC m8 and I gotta say I BELIEVE it's the best overall.
SD slot and usb on the go - i have 2 64gb cards and 3 32gb SanDisk usb/micro on the go sticks and they are used for work, movies and docs.
Removable battery - i am a very heavy user - monthly usage - 100gb mobile data, 1000 emails, 3000 txt/whatsapp, 40hrs calls average, I use thru out the day 2 full batteries lasting a combined of 17hrs approx (in retrospect iPhone 6+ lasts me 6/7hrs)
Thats me... Everyone is very different but for me Note series wins everytime
For reference these are phones I've used in last 24months in no order:
Note 3, Note 4, galaxy s4, galaxy s5, LG g3, HTC m8, HTC m7, lumia 930, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6+, xperia ultra

I'm 110% sure that the front camera on the iPhone 6 Plus isn't even comparable with the front camera on the Note 4.
Not only is the front camera on the Note 4 much better in camera quality over the iPhone 6 Plus, but the front camera on the Note 4 even record videos in higher resolution than the main camera on the iPhone 6 Plus does. That alone tells us how much iPhone 6 / 6 Plus is behind the competition.

Really? I was testing today alongside my moto x 2014 and quality with all of them was much the same. Certainly do not think owning the devices that there is a big difference.

If you just looks at the pictures as you see them, then you might not see much differences. But once you start to see the pictures in full size, you will right away see that the camera on the iPhone 6 Plus can't keep up with the Note 4.
Here is a picture taken with the iPhone 6 Plus.
Now, here is the same picture taken with the Note 4.
Now take a look at the signs on the roof in those 2 pictures. Do you see the text there on the picture the iPhone 6 Plus have taken?
On the picture the Note 4 have taken, you can easily see the text there. On the iPhone 6 Plus picture, it's almost impossible to see the text there.
Here is a 100% crop of the iPhone 6 Plus picture.
Here is the 100% crop picture to the Note 4.
Again, the iPhone 6 Plus can't even be comparable to the Note 4 as the iPhone 6 Plus camera lacks the details in the pictures.

The iPhone 6 Plus got crushed by the Note 4 in that blind camera test.

Irritating question designed to bring all kinds of trollish responses. Since you have gone ahead and asked anyway. I chose both. I like both platforms and both these phones bring something unique in their own way. I prefer the note 4 for its camera for daylight and the iPhone 6 for lowlight and its consistency.
You cannot go wrong with either.

You are spot on, I have both and they are both fantastic in their own way. However if a person wanted the best camera then the Note 4 is the one to go for.

Was that the Three Sisters by any chance? I heading back home in a few weeks and I'm bringing a few Brits(friends) with me to show them the crack and gods own country in the Kingdom, can't wait.

No more northerly on Kerry coast that than the three sisters which are Ballydavid (Dingle Peninsula) direction. This would be closer to Kerry Head

Well, I like Apple ecosystem but Note 4 Super AMOLED screen is a deal breaker for me. I read a lot of manga (black and white japanese comics) on a phone and I say black looks more vivid on a Super AMOLED screen. I study japanese too so the ability to draw chinese letters (kanji) with a Spen is also great. I also have the liberty to just run Nintendo DS japanese kanji learning and drawing games with a stylus... Without having to carry the extra Nintendo DS weight... Thats impossible on a iPhone 6 Plus.

I really love the floating windows option.
Other than that, huge screen, spen, sflip cover, removable battery and expendable memory.
