Screen on for SMS alert? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if there is a way to make the screen turn on when a text is received? I love the notification light (came from iphone) but I would really like the screen to light up when a message comes in..any way?

I think that this can be resolved with an after market app. I use HancentSMS and it does all of that and more.

Looking for a new SMS/MMS popup app

I've tried different SMS/MMS popup apps. Many are very similar and sort of recently found one that almost satisfies me, popup 7, though it has it limits like MMS notifications not working. Is there an app that when you get a message it notifies you like normal in the status bar and when you click on the notification, via the dropdown, instead of going to the messaging app a popup will show for quick reply and such things. If there isn't one, this would be an awesome app to develop IMO.

I like the Pro free SMS app... its nice.
Use handcent. It has the popup set as default. It pops up and gives you a notification in the status bar.

+1 on GO SMS Pro, it works great and is highly customizable. Has popups notifications in bar, notification privacy, individual notifications, can customize every single thing about the app. Even make DIY themes right from the apps built in thememaker(separate free add-on) etc etc etc etc. It's the best 3rd party sms app I've used IMO

I use sms popup. it still goes off your stock messaging app just adds a popup.
Well none of those let you automatically bring out a pop-up for quick reply after you click on the notification. Those popups overlay anything your doing automatically. I was looking for something that notifies you of a message and when you click on it from the notification bar a quick reply pop-up comes out. So essentially you chose when the pop-up comes out. I don't think there is one. Would be a great app to make though I don't know how to.

Capacitive button notifications

Is there an app that will make the capacitive buttons blink for notifications like messages and calls and emails?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Its called back light notifications (bld) and requires a custom kernel to work.
There are similar apps though they turn the screen on. NoLED I believe its called.
First of all you need a modified kernel with BLN functions.
I use LightFlow app to program the events that will engage light on capacitive buttons.
There is no such thing possible
Do you really care that I'm using a Nexus S?

[Q] Lock Screen Notification

Hi,
Just wondering is there anyway, to setup the lock screen widget to show the screen on which alert is popped up? for example your homescreen is the one with the clock on (usually) and when a text is received on native sms app it will jump to the text screen automatically?
wondering if we could do the same thing with NiLs notification?
Thanks :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
So no one is capable enough here to answer this Hmmm

How can I TOTALLY get rid of the annoying text message lock screen widget?!?!

You know how when you receive a text message and your phone is locked and sleeping... when you wake your phone the first screen you see is the lock screen widget of the person's name that sent you the message and also part of the text message as well. How the hell can I totally get rid of this?? It's veryy annoying and I'd like to use DashClock to view who texted me, not that. Thanks!
EDIT: Attached screenshot of what I am talking about.

That's what I thought too until I realized that I wasn't using any of Samsung's gimmicky add-ons. To each his own, I guess.
For what it's worth, if you click the notification and then swipe in the unlock area like normal, it'll take you right to the app with the notification. I found that out through trial and error.

I always find myself using them. Especially the IR Blaster. Quick Glance is very useful as well.
And yeah I've known that. But like I said, I'd rather use DashClock and the SMS DashClock extension for viewing SMS on my lockscreen. I wanna totally get rid of it somehow!!

This may not be what you are looking for, but I use SMS Popup for my notifications and turn off the notifications on the sms app itself. I do not get the notice on the lock screen. So I am thinking there is something in the stock SMS app that makes it show on the lockscreen. So if you any other app to get the notification this would remove it from the lockscreen. I don't know if you want to add another app to your phone to get a notification or not just to get rid of the lock screen.
I like SMS Popup because I like the pop-up message that I can reply to, however you can turn that off and just get the normal notification. I also like that I can assign a different ringtone and LED notifications to a contacts so I can know who is texting me.

Nah man, I already know about that... all it does it not preview the message or tell you the name. It still appears though. I'm looking to totally get rid of that all-together,

Thanks. I was hoping to stick with the default app, as I really like what Samsung had done with the pop-up notification.

Maybe the Lightflow app have settings for this and can override the default settings. Originally Lightflow lets you change light on the LED notification, but I have seen other settings in that app too. Worth a try.
Textra also has a pop-up notification. Not sure how it compares to Samsung's though
