I've tried different SMS/MMS popup apps. Many are very similar and sort of recently found one that almost satisfies me, popup 7, though it has it limits like MMS notifications not working. Is there an app that when you get a message it notifies you like normal in the status bar and when you click on the notification, via the dropdown, instead of going to the messaging app a popup will show for quick reply and such things. If there isn't one, this would be an awesome app to develop IMO.

Use handcent. It has the popup set as default. It pops up and gives you a notification in the status bar.

+1 on GO SMS Pro, it works great and is highly customizable. Has popups notifications in bar, notification privacy, individual notifications, can customize every single thing about the app. Even make DIY themes right from the apps built in thememaker(separate free add-on) etc etc etc etc. It's the best 3rd party sms app I've used IMO

I use sms popup. it still goes off your stock messaging app just adds a popup.
Well none of those let you automatically bring out a pop-up for quick reply after you click on the notification. Those popups overlay anything your doing automatically. I was looking for something that notifies you of a message and when you click on it from the notification bar a quick reply pop-up comes out. So essentially you chose when the pop-up comes out. I don't think there is one. Would be a great app to make though I don't know how to.

He meant the content itself not the notification I think.
Back to the op, download handcent sms. From there on you can do whatever you want with your messaging app. But one thing, disable the stock message first cuz they both will notifiy you when a message comes.
And remember: when in doubt, press the menu button

When I get a text, I noticed neither the Notification window nor the lockscreen will say whom it is from.
If you are in the notification panel you can click the notification and it will take you to the SMS app where you can see who sent the message, but if you click on it in the lockscreen all you get is an empty pop-up window in the newly-created lockscreen page.
Is everyone else experiencing this?
Neat new feature, the lockscreen pages, but I think the interaction with SMS messages is a miss... perhaps they released it before testing that.

I think it was an oversight...
It will probably get fixed in the next build, but those are usually few and far between when dealing with Samsung and AT&T.

Did you all tick this setting?
That setting is checked, although even when that is enabled, it shows on the lockscreen but it doesnt open the SMS app when you click it. Only an extra transparent window opens up in the lock screen.

I can't figure that transparent box either. Rather annoying, but when a text comes in the preview works in the status bar.

I get the box also...
But i have my message icon in the shortcut down on bottom of lockscreen. If you stay your swipe on the icon it launches messages...
Hope someone sheds light on the Grey box!

Just pull down on the lock screen and it would let you tap it and then it will take you to the message..
Or when the message is first receive you can tap it
Works for me

This box?
Try swiping within thr box (as it says) to open messages. It is so you dont accidentally 'read' the message in your pocket.

How this works is when you get a text. Click on the text on the lock screen. A transparent box opens. Whem that box opens swipe your finger in that box. It will take you directly to the text from that person to respond. It works as its intended.

i miss the preview message on my lg optimus g that would give you a little preview of what is in the text, that way i can choose if i want to answer it or not from the lock screen instead of going all the way into the messaging app. also if you get a text message and unlock the phone, at the bottom the text message icon has no number showing how many text messages waiting while in the notification bar it says i have a text waiting.

Preview in Notification but NOT Lock Screen
So I like seeing the SMS preview (name and first line of text) in my notification bar pull down, but not on the lock screen. That's just kinda weird to me, they should be separate. I don't want anyone to preview my messages whyile my phone is password or pattern locked.
Anyone have a clue how to configure this???
So Im pretty sure that this goes in this forum if not im so sorry lol. Anyways I had just rooted my phone and what not and I have moved away from the stock texting app to the textra app. I LOVE TEXTRA! There is only one really really really annoying thing about it though. When I get a text from someone I have multiple notification icons in my notification bar if it is from more than one person. Is there anyway to fix this? For example I could have like 50 text with the stock messaging app but only one notification icon up top. If I have 50 text in textra ill have 50 notification icons up to. PLEASE HELP!
I'm not 100% sure if I get what you're saying, but I would say try disabling the stock messenger app, if you want the 50 notifications. If you only want one notif. for all the texts like the stock messenger I'd say look around in the Textra settings. hope I helped
Open up the stock messaging app, go to settings, uncheck "notifications". Then you'll only get notifications via your other messaging app.

As you can see in the picture, I have 4 text messages and 4 separate notification icons in my status bar telling me I have a text from each individual person. If I were using a stock messaging app however, It would only appear as one notification icon in my status bar. Is there anyway to fix this? I hope this clears up some confusion

I really want to like Textra, but there's another annoying feature.
If you're on a call and you get a text, if your notification is set to vibrate, your phone will vibrate in your ear as you're talking.
I've emailed the dev and he said he might fix it.
Just got the Note 3 thru T-Mobile..had it for about 9 days. Cant send/recieve pics, even to myself.
Switched to the stock SMS/MMS app and it works fine. Anyone else experienced this? I kinda like Handcent because I can have a LED light notify me of a unread SMS/MMS..stock app only gives me a sound.

I'll check it out.
As much as I hate Handcent 5, I tried it, but no go for me. Again searching for a new messaging app. Stock would be fine if it wasn't bubbled.
Themagicm, did you have any luck?
Yes. Seems to be working for me. I'll test some more and if it craps out I'll reply back.
False alarm. Sending works....some recieving works. Uninstalling. The only reason I use it is because I can change the LED color to notify me of unread TMs.
I just now uninstalled Handcent as well. I went over to goSMS. Far from ideal, but at least I can again send receive MMS, as well as receive MMS over wifi.
The original messaging app works for me though...I just want the LED to flash a color of my choosing. Lol

I was looking at that one, but didn't want to shell out money just to try it as I couldn't find a demo. I know I can return it after a few minutes, but would prefer to test it over a few days. Is it that much better/different than others?

Just tried sliding messaging...swiping left and right to loop through conversations? Seriously? There may be ways to change that in the settings but I'm not going to lose my refund window you find it.
I just wish there was a demo, even if it was crippleware, too go through the options. Looked like there was potential, I'll see if I can learn more about it abd may reconsider

I paid for it and used it for a day. Buggy, UI layout can't be changed only colors, stuck in conversation style, when using dark theme you can't see new message notifications on your conversation list since there's no way to change the black highlight color.
I'm sure it fills a niche and I see it has it's fans, but the sliding seems gimmicky and underwhelming. even with the maximum customization that I could do, the best I could do is get it close to 8sms, which is more reliable and less bloated.
They definitely need a free version, or at the very least, a trial period. There's too much in the app to get a feel for it in 15 minutes, and you'd spend most of that time attempting to MANUALLY configure it to send and receive MMS.
I say all this not to bust on the app, as it may be just right for some, but just to throw it out there that if you're used to a handcent-level of customization, this isn't for you.

I dont know what you did but you can change the UI layout. There are 4 different styles. It isn't buggy for me. maybe bad install for you. I do admit that sliding between messages wasn't for me so i disabled it in settings. In theme seting in sliding menu mode choose fullscreen sliding menu or choose no sliding menu.to change display layout it is under theme settings too. Mine highlight color for new messages show up in red highlight and I chose Dark blue theme. Yea like you say it might not be for some.

Right. The layout, meaning where things are located, is the same though. Just the styling of the layout can be changed. For example, I want my contact picture on the left, so that it's in a vertical list and not alternating.

Maybe the Lightflow app have settings for this and can override the default settings. Originally Lightflow lets you change light on the LED notification, but I have seen other settings in that app too. Worth a try.
Textra also has a pop-up notification. Not sure how it compares to Samsung's though
