Hello everybody,
quite time ago I received a 1st gen. Nexus 7 3G with cracked glass. The lower-right corner wasn't receiving taps, but I got used to that.
Now practically I can't use my Nexus, because it started to self-recognise ghost taps near the cracked point. A lot of these taps.
Is there any possibility of disabling the selected touchscreen area until I replace the broken part?
Regards.
Uhm... A bump?
The only possible solution that comes in my mind is an app that practically overlays any other app and filters the touches from a selected area of the screen. I don't think there are any of this kind of app or too much other solution, so I suggest you to replace the screen as soon as possible.

Hi,
I just want to thank everyone on this site for the plethora of information that is available.
Here is a rather strange issue, that I did not see covered previously...
I purchased a used aria with a cracked digitizer off ebay for pretty cheap. I replaced the digitizer myself and all was good. I used the phone for about a week and dropped it. After that, the digitizer has been acting a bit flaky.
For instance, when it decides that it wants to annoy me, every input seems to register only on the middle of the screen. For instance, if I touch the top of the screen, the screen registers touches as though I was touching the screen in middle of the height. If I touch the bottom, it still registers the touch in the center of the screen.
I found that If I knock the phone against a table, along the edge, the problem goes away for a while. Then it crops up, again, randomly.
Anyone have this issue?
Thanks,
JC
Alright, this may sound like a stupid question, but I noticed that all the HTC One phones use one touch panel for the capacative buttons and the screen, and that people have been able to map usually 'dead' zones on the extended part of the digitizer not over the screen to different buttons.
My question is this: Does the digitizer on the Nexus 4 extend off the visible screen, and if so, is it possible to modify the kernel to accept touches on these areas, possibly for gestures?
Thanks in advance! :good:
Based off my limited knowledge of the phone, I don't think they have an extended digitizer thing over the bottom since there is the notification light there. BUT, it IS based off the Optimus G that does have those touch sensitive buttons in that region.
Hi All,
I have recently bought S4 and I'm having a small issue with it.
first of all, I turned off the "More Sensitive" feature in the setting, and "vibration on touch" is on.
However, I occasionally feel that touch is pressed before my finger actually touches the screen (the phone vibrates and types before I touch the screen when my finger is about 2~3mm apart from the screen), and it seems it's not consistent about it (some times it touches with 2~3mm gap and sometimes it doesn't).
I have even tried with the "display touch" from the developer mode and verified that it indeed touches with 2~3 gap...
The problem is...the ATT guy looked at me as if I'm overly sensitive about this...(the typical look of 'man this is just a phone')
Is anyone having this issue?

I have rarely noticed this myself, but usually only a 1mm-2mm gap for me, and maybe once every couple days. Really infrequent. On an older phone of mine, the cheaply-made car charger I was using caused my touchscreen to flip out and become super-sensitive. Might have been a static-to-ground issue or something weird.
Does it happen when you have it plugged in only, or does it happen while disconnected?
Also, speaking on static electricity, is it dry in your area? Do you have problems shocking things?
*shrug* only some suggestions. Could be a miscalibrated or otherwise defective touchscreen...
Mine also does this, whether plugged in or not it does it.
Nor do I have a problem with static in my house.
My best guess would be the air view sensor is falsly detecting the small distance away as an actual touch.

I dropped my phone and cracked the screen at the bottom. It's barely noticeable, but the area at the bottom where it is cracked is unresponsive to touches. This is unfortunately the most important part of the screen, and makes navigating around the phone difficult.
Is there some kind of software workaround where I can basically push up the nav bar, and have it ignore the very bottom of the phone? Or is there a better solution? Pie appears to be another option, but I have found it semi-difficult to use.

Haha, right.
The physical button placement makes that sub-ideal (as well as the camera). That quickfix would just replace the nav bar issue with a notification bar issue.
Install custom Rom with pie and use that.
Now I know this problem has been asked before but after some extensive searches I can see there are no clean fixes for this.
My Nexus 4 (Android 5.0.2 LiquidSmooth ROM) has started showing ghost touches at the bottom part of the screen. I know there are a lot of explanations available such as digitizer not working, battery being too old etc. But I'm not interested in these hardware issues/fixes.
I have isolated the area of effect as the bottom ~160 pixel height of the device. I then proceeded to use the ADB shell command
wm overscan 0,0,0,160
which removed that portion from the UI. This fixed the effects these phantom touches have on the apps or UI. But a problem still remains that these ghost touches happen in too many numbers and this leaves other usable areas of the screen insensitive to touch. I am guessing this is due to the multi touch limit being reached in that bottom unused part itself. Multi touch testing apps dont pick up touches on the top part of the screen
So my question is, is it possible to remove a part of the screen from the System itself? Ideally a thick black bar of unused area, leaving me with a shorter yet fully working screen? Or atleast is it possible to turn off touch response in that lower part of the screen so that it doesnt max out the multi touch limit?
My Nexus 4's is same too
I think, that ghost touch will work from Screen Digitizer. My Nexus 4's screen digitizer was non-LG's digitizer, it was fake. I need to change that digitizer
I workaround this issue avoid using undervoling in the kernel, and avoid lower temperatures in phone, yes as you read ... this issue give my crazy when my phone was to hot and I tried to cold my phone using one ice cube in screen and back, the temperature of the phone down but ghost touches appears again, so played some videos to warm the phone again and dissapear again.
Don't ask me about how it works, or relation with screen, digitizer or battery, I don't understand but help me to workaround the issue.
