Just flash. All custom ROMs have root.
Btw, you need a custom recovery to flash a ROM (like TWRP, CWM)

Not necessarily. You can flash a custom recovery through Odin and not root it at all and then just install a already rooted ROM.

CWM is always reliable. Some prefer TWRP. I'm using Philz Touch. It depends on your preferences. CWM is the most stable.

[Q] Is Rooting and flashing a custom ROM the same thing?

The title is basically my question, but to elaborate: Do I need to do an initial process before flashing a custom ROM or does flashing a custom ROM form part of rooting?
you need root to flash a custom rom.
you can say root is only a doorway to customization.

Incorrect. You don't need root to flash a custom rom.
You need a custom recovery to flash rom. You don't need root for that.

Yes it is, but you will lose your warranty anyway, it's not important if you got root or not

[Q] Custom Roms, Recovery & Rooting

Hi. I've rooted a tablet and a phone before but I have no experience with custom roms and recovery.
My question is if I install a custom rom, is my tablet automatically rooted? Or I have to root before I can install custom rom?
And is root needed for installing recovery? Its for Samsung Galaxt Tab 4 (10.1")
Thank you.
ROOT is needed to access system as RW mode.
To flash recovery you need root,
To flash ROM you need recovery
And no, not all ROMs are pre-rooted. But you can download CHAINFIRE's SuperSU.zip and paste it in sdcard. So whenever you flash a ROM, flash supersu.zip and you will be rooted. Hit thanks if I helped you
Instead of thanking me by posting, HIT Thanks if you like my post or if I helped you in any way!

That depends on the specific model of your phone/tablet. All custom roms come pre-rooted. On Samsung/HTC phones (and some more) you don't need root acces to flash recovery. Please ask your question for spcecific devices.

For a Samsung device you can use an app called ODIN to flash a custom recovery. If you google for flashing recovery with ODIN there are many guides. You do not need root to do this but you will trip a counter internally that marks your device as warranty voided. You can get PhilZ Recovery for Galaxy Tab 4 in the Tab 4 forums. Make sure to note your model number as the different sizes of the tab have different builds. Once you have that you can flash a custom rom. Make sure to back up stack first in case you want to go back. Once you have a custom recovery you can do this from the menu

To flash a Custom ROM there is no need to root, the only thing you need is to install a custom recovery, TWRP is very good. After you have installed TWRP or any other custom recovery, you have to put on your SD Card the ROM that you want to install, and install it from the custom recovery.

You don't need root to flash a custom ROM.
You just need a custom recovery. TWRP is recommended.

You don't need root. TWRP can be flashed with Odin and this doesn't require root.
Rooting and flashing a custom ROM are different and separate things.

TWRP Install S7 Edge Android 7.0

I believe some custom roms require flashing that, but I just rooted and installed twrp.
If flashing SupermanRom, then you need to install no_verity_opt_encrypt before flashing ROM.

Not really. It was just required for kernels with non disabled encryption but eventually it was integrated into SuperSU and now with sources we have non encrypted kernels. And why before flashing the rom?

You don't need it anymore, as we have kernel sources and You can download any rom and it will be working without encryption.

If it's not a custom rom then yes you will need to flash no verity zip unless you plan to root in which you can flash supersu which includes no verity.
