It's a tablet, you shouldn't be able to make calls in the first place, except over VOIP. I suspect the update disabled whatever workaround allowed it.

Hi
U c that i got a LTE Version of nexus 7, right?

LTE for N7 doesn't mean that you can make phone calls. Until now it isn't and it wasn't possible.

This. Tablet data support is just for that, data. They're not meant to make phone calls or send SMS.
Hey guys
I dont know why u r discussing about stuff i didnt ASK for.
In this site https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
U can c whether i can do calls possibly or not.
I also explained that i can recieve SMS .
So PLZ dont trash this thread.
Nexus 7 2013, mobile
Thanks in advance

And so the word "mobile" in Google's images site is a confirmation for you that you can make a phone call with the LTE?
Wow!
I'm right now using this device with LTE and I do not need another confirmation other than what I can do with it: no phone calls.
We weren't "spamming" your thread - only trying to clarify your wrong assumption (I made it myself before by the way).

I really don't know what you're asking. You didn't say anything about being able to receive SMS messages in your previous posts, and while in theory the tablet can receive them it's not an officially supported feature and is only there to allow you to manage your mobile data connection. The link to the factory images doesn't make any reference to the 2013 Nexus 7 being able to make phone calls or send SMS - it has the words "Nexus 7 2013, mobile" because it's the 2013 Nexus 7 that has a mobile data radio in it.
Here's the official manual: http://static.googleusercontent.com...roid/android_ug_42/Nexus-7-Guidebook-2013.pdf
If you can find any references in there to phone calls I will eat this post.

The Nexus 7 LTE does not have the necessary hardware to make normal phone calls.
It does have a basic SMS receiver app as stock.
EDIT: apparently it does have the hardware, but it's disabled somehow. See comment below.

at least u guys r right!
it was my mistake on this.
i think i tried another tab to do a call.

Mine receives and sends SMS into a 2g/3g network with no problems following the addition of the MMS.apk mentioned in another thread. LTE isn't here yet, and I suspect won't be for another couple of years!

Aaaaactually - it *does* have the necessary hardware to make normal phone calls. However, Goog has blocked the ability to use it, possibly right on the chip..
So you're technically wrong, but for all intents and purposes, right (AFAWK).

If I am not mistaken, most of Samsung's 7"ish tablets have phone capability when sold outside the US (I owe a 7.7 and the original P1000)
I would love my Nexus 7 to be used as a phone... If not then I guess I may have to go for a Nexus 5 (Whihc is probably what Google and the telco wants you to do...)
Yes it is the mother ship or ships doing this. More plans equals more money.

Yep, I'm starving for a piece of ICS.
I hope not too many things are still broken and a beta will be our christmas present
Or if you have the CM9 (ICS) repo you can try building it today. What I did was try building GT_P7510 by doing brunch GT_P7510 -j16 and then when it fails, use the extract_files.sh script to copy the proprietaries over from honeycomb. Doubt I'll really have time to play with it as ICS on it's own takes about an hour.

I had a Wi-Fi Tab and it was a pain in the ass to travel with. Get out the phone, enable Wi-Fi sharing, connect the Tab, disconnect the Tab, disconnect Wi-Fi sharing. If you forgot the latter, the phone's dead the next time you go to use it. I'm paying $20 a month for unlimited data and messaging with no contract on my UK 3G Tab. To me, that's worth the convenience and being able to split my data usage over two devices so I don't get the dreaded "top 5%" message from AT&T. I think 3G tablets are a lot more popular outside the U.S. where data's less expensive and you don't have to commit to multi-year contracts.

I added my Tab to my account as an additional line for $9.95 and then added the data for non-Smartphones plan to it for an additional $10. The latter's $15 if the account doesn't have unlimited messaging on it. You can only do this with either the P7300 or P7500. It won't work with devices AT&T sells directly because they have the IMEI in their system.
The March 8, 2013, I bought in google play, 2 mobile devices Nexus 4. I bought them because it was a model powered by google and I thought it was going relatively well.
I've been very disappointed with this phone. The whatsapp, emails, lines, gtalk, etc. have a latency impressive. Some whatsapp slow to go over 20 minutes! When you send line messages, get a shipping error and you have to give forward constantly. I tested and in 4 different operators: Amena, Orange, Movistar and Telstra, and none works well. Say it clear, that the APN is configured properly (I assure you). In fact, this same setup I've tried the other 4 terminals, HTC Wildfire, Galaxy Ace, Iphone 4 and Galaxy s2, and all works correctly. In contrast, in the Nexus 4 is grief. I do not know what to do, I can not contact Google to return the phone and give me a solution either.
Does anyone in this respectable forum knows how solve this serious problem with the nexus 4? Are there any hidden settings to solve this internet problem?
I would do very happy if guys could give me a solution to this problem because the phone I liked a lot, but if I can not find any solution, I will have to get rid of it.

Impossible
Since I did one factory reset on both phones and installed cm10 one of the devices, but the problem persists. As I said in the previous thread, I've tried with several telephone companies with APN configured correctly. On other phones like the galaxy ace or htc wildfire running, but in the nexus 4 posts slow to arrive between 10 and 20 minutes.
I think I'll have to buy another phone.
Someone offered me a good deal for both phones?
They were bought in Google Play the March 8, 2013.
In my opinion LG Nexus 4 malfunctioned.

You can get a small improvement by installing a custom kernel (Harsh works for me). I almost want to tell you to return your phone and make sure Google knows about the problem. Once people start returning their phones, maybe Google will look into fixing this. :crying:

How I can I contact google to return the 2 phones?

I think you can flash it without rooting or unlocking your bootloader, or you can simply unlock then flash then lock your bootloader again. There are some instructions here. You can try it without unlocking your bootloader first, and if that fails, unlock it temporarily. Flashing like this WILL DEFINITELY wipe your data, including /sdcard, so backup to computer.

This is definitely a software or radio problem, because it wasn't an issue in the earlier versions of Android. Furthermore, installing a custom kernel like Harsh mitigates the problem. I hope the next version of Android will fix this, but I'm worried the Google engineers don't even know about it. I think it's provider-related, and this problem may not exist in the US.

That would be sad, but you gotta do what you gotta do. The next version of Android is expected to be released in about 3 weeks. You could return the phone and buy it again when you know this issue is fixed. Or you could wait. (But if you wait too long, do you lose your right to return the phone? It is defective, so in your country you probably have pretty strong rights in this area.)

Are you absolutely sure that:
1. You had a problem where outgoing data was delayed by up to a minute (in all applications, not just WhatsApp)?
2. You did not change service providers or plan or SIM card?
3. The wipe solved your problem and messages are now sent immediately?
I'd like to try this if it helps, but it's a huge effort. Thanks!

2. Yes, I'm sure. I probe 4 service providers: Amena, Orange, Yoigo and Symio.
3. I will do it this night. I will flash de original image from google. There is the occam version. Are I ok?
Can anybody who has the LTE version try to flash through Titanium backup the dialer app from the Nexus 4 ?
If we're lucky (luckier than the 3G version) the new chipset may allow us to make calls...
I ordered mine today but obviously would love if someone can try before it even arrives (Then I'd be a taker of Android 4.3's dialer for Nexus 4)

Go SMS Pro works just fine if you install it from the play store, and it's free.
Without it (or any other sms app) the Nexus 7 can only receive sms but it cannot send any, otherwise it just works the same as any regular phone.
I guess it may be possible to forcefully install and dialer and make some calls, assuming you would use a headset to talk and the baseband firmware has no restrictions about it.

Keep in mind that the device does not have a motor, therefore it is incapable of vibrating, so you cannot have a silent/vibrate mode on the Nexus 7 to use it to receive calls in a meeting or anywhere you'd need to stay quiet.

Sorry off topic. The new ASUS FONEPAD 7 is a device to consider for someone who wants something along these lines.
Pity they didn't see fit kit it out with the 2013 N7 internals, it would have been a great device. As it is it will probably give 2012 N7 like performance.

Yes, you can set it to ring since it has speakers.
It's a shame that you can't use it for calls though, it lowers the value of the LTE variant :/
The modem isn't so bad though, I kinda wish the tablet had haptic feedback...
Also since I have been playing with both the LTE and Wifi variants, somehow the LTE variant has much faster wifi (I get about 98mbits on the LTE version from my router and only 65mbits on the wifi variant) I guess the wireless chip may be different in both devices (even though they share the same specs on paper except for the phone radio of course). Something to keep in mind.

The reason this doesn't work over here in America is that essentially, way back in 2003 or 2004, when the rest of the world was well on their way to rolling out the then new UMTS (aka 3G) standard, part of that included a sub-layer protocol integrated into it's data services that allowed for QoS. Basically, bandwidth priority for video calls. Yes, people over there were making full fledged video calls on their cells phones, 8 years ago, with no WiFi needed. True story. (And Steve Jobs made it sound like FaceTime was something "new" and "revolutionary..." Heh, bite my metallic Android @$$!)
Anyway, long story short, Cingular/AT&T Wireless, for whatever reason or another, never decided to implement the protocol stack necessary to make video calls over UMTS. I know they briefly experimented with instant video messaging (where you could be on a call, take a video, and then send it as a message), but supposedly that never caught on. THEN, when video calling really might have caught on, they still had an exclusive deal with Apple, and of course it wouldn't have been in Apple's best interest if every phone could make and receive video calls... I mean, what would be so special about FaceTime then? Nothing...
Finally, today, AT&T still hasn't implemented video calling. Why? Who knows... They'll probably spin the whole "spectrum shortage" spiel as an excuse for not implementing a standard which has been available to the rest of the world for nearly a decade...
Then again, maybe they'll roll out this feature once they've rolled out LTE--wait a second... Chuck Testa is calling...

How did you two even get the video call button to appear in your dialers? It shouldn't be there if you got the US models.
Ive got uk g900f trying to call with stock dialer n it says the other phone doesnt support video calls even tho its another s5

You probably don't have video calling activated with your operator or they don't support it.

Your operator doesn't support phone to phone video calling. No US operator supports it afaik.

Does voLTE require a hardware upgrade or is this potentially a feature that all n6s can enjoy?

My house phone is better than your iPhone.
T-mobile is actually testing VoLTE on N6. I think it will be in the OS. Time will tell.
Band 12 volte and WiFi calling I hope but I'm more interested in performance and battery improvements

While that may or may not be accurate they at least have some good news. I won a Nexus 9 from them during the 20 days of giveaways in December so they aren't all bad.
As far as 5.1 goes if its out on VZW then it will be out on all Nexus 6's as far as I'm concerned. Whether or not google posts the ROM devs can likely extract the files and incorporate them into a ROM. Let's see what happens because I would like to use B12 and WiFi calling on T-Mobile. I know T-Mobile has to enable some things in their end for it to work but at least we would have the software here ready and waiting.
With all the issues the N6 has on Sprint I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon wants that fixed before releasing on their network. Maybe the texting and call issues are CDMA related rather than Sprint specific?
I've had my N6 on Verizon for months, and everything works perfectly.

Same, with the exception of the network extender. On the extender, no 3G data and the signal indicator goes wonky. It also tries very hard to connect to an outside tower rather than the extender...
Hope they fix the data icon and connections taking long to actually connect
Have Verizon actually got a n6 with 5.1 or is it just hearsay.

Well, at this point, until the device is announced, it's just hearsay.

Hell, my wifi doesn't want to connect if I toggle it off, then back on later. Gotta do a reboot most times.

Some discussion at the thread above.
Edit: hit return too quick.
I don't recall seeing anything official from Verizon or Google that it will be 5.1. I think that's what everyone is guessing based on the features posted by Verizon for the phone, T-Mobile comments and that 5.1 has been spotted somewhere in the world on some handsets. I'm looking forward to it as I have a lot of problems with WiFi and Bluetooth which I hope this will clear up. Also, if rumors are true and we get wifi calling, band 12 (t-mobile customer) and VoLTE, all the better.
