Let me start off, I've got to say that the Touch HD is an awesome bit of kit. There's just 1 thing I don't like about it and that's the way the stylus is held in. I don't think it's held securely enough, a couple of times I have pulled the phone out of the pouch and the stylus has also managed to come out.
there is nothing that i don't like about the blackstone.....
only one thing the processor could be 5000 GHZ .......
Its not something i hate.. but its the only downside i find compared to the iPhone.. multitouch.. but then again... i knew it didnt have one.. and MY GOD this kicks iphones ass!
cheers!

Give us the menu's from WM6 instead of having to press several icons to get to the same item.
Direct to something is better than fiddling and wasting time!
The phone is the greatest, my only complaint is that it was a shock coming from the diamond as the screen on the diamond is excellent, the colors are really rich and the blacks are black where as the HD is a beautiful screen but a wee bit washed out.
After using the HD for a week now I am really happy with everything, even the screen as long as I don't look at the Diamond.
Things You Don't Like About The Touch HD
No camera bottom
Volume bottoms is to sensitive
Back panel squirks
But i still love the phone

is it....
foolproof????
thats a kinda objective question
There hasn't been a phone made that is perfect for everybody.
Things I don't like about the touch HD
Video recording, only QVGA
Back cover, should be smooth without that metal thing
The reset button inside the cover, should be outside
The headphones that came with it are useless, to big to fit my ears
When recording calls our voice gets recorded very loud and the other person voice very quiet
Wifi is very bad, receives low signal and disconnects easily
No good video player with full hardware acceleration
The other things are great
mmm!
some are very close....
recording calls...
there has been quite alot of talk re the recording of calls....
does anyone have any really good positive recommendations????

Yes I did that but it doesn't work fine like my ETEN M700 did, I was using one FONERA www.fon.com with one 10db omni directional antenna as my home hotspot, it sends 2 SSIDs, the HD doesn't like it and disconnects, so I'm now using the wireless of other of my routers, it's one linksys WRT54GL, it doesn't have the same high range but it works.
What I don't like are:
Stylus comes out when removing from pouch.
Key buttons too small on keyboards resulting in constant incorrect key presses.
Takes too long to go back to previous screen after adjusting volume keys.
When using alphabet scroller on right edge on Contacts screen and you scroll to say 'S', the first contact beginning with S appears at the bottom of the screen instead of at the top of the screen.
Slow redraw rate of icons everytime you go to builtin programs list.
Today i noticed a wierd ticking noise when shaking my phone . It's not that loud , it's around the phone-speaker and i suspect some kind of spring from the slide , because when i hold the phone firmly in the speaker area the noise dissapears , also when sliding the screen(during the slide. when completly opened it reappears) the noise deissapear , and when i push a bit the screen in the direction that it is (forcing it to stay closed or open).
Does anyone else has this problem ? Because i don't thing that warranty will consider this as a problem , and change my phone.
The phone is not having any hardware problems , but the ticking noise just annoys me .
I believe this is just the slide mechanism.
What are you doing shaking your phone anyway?
Hmm I think I found this problem discussed b4.
The sound came from some part under the optical pad, and as I know, every X1 is.
a normal sound coming from the sliding mechanism.

Yes we all hear it, it is normal, not something broken or loose.
thanks for sharing , i also suspected the slide mecanism , but i didn't know it this sound is normal . now i feel better knowing that there is nothing wrong with my phone , but is still pretty iritating , hearing it sometimes when using the phone (voice call)
LOL=) It's the pen!
If the sound originates from the top of the phone, most definitely it's the camera; more specifically the auto focus mechanism. From what I read here on XDA, it would seem that it's not a Q.C. problem and it's normal for it to "rattle", "click", "tick" or whatever else you can make sense of it.
I've had a few devices from just about every manufacturer, and I've noticed the sound you're describing in about 30% of my devices. Some manufacturers are worse than others - like Motorola - but I've never seen a link between the "rattle" and phone malfunction. In my opinion, it's perfectly normal - best not to think about it

what i was hearing was the sliding mechanism, if you hold the 2 parts (bottom and top) and press them (the gap between them will become almost zero) the sound will disappear

i don't think so, the pen is in a fixed location, and it exactly fits there so i don't think it can move in the compartment.
Hi,
I also have this ticking noise, and has some one posted before, I found out it comes from small wheels between the screen and keyboard of the sliding mechanism.
I post here some pics that show them:

The two wheels in each side on back of the screen.
One wheel in more detail:
These wheels I believe they should run on the sides of the keyboard as I show on next picture.
I think the problem is that this wheels are loose and flying in spite of running on top of the keyboard. I also note that my screen is not totally stable, specially when open, and is a bit loose in relation to the X1 body.
I believe that this wheels should be there for stabilizing the screen and to give a smoother sliding effect, which I find not very the case of my X1.
I also think it's not normal to put wheels that are never grounded (as far as I can see on my X1) and only are there for making noise.
An easy way to check and patch the problem is to put two or three slices of paper stacked over the sides of the keyboard (on the red lines of last picture). In this way you fill the gap between the wheels and the keyboard body and the noise will stop. Besides the slide is smoother and screen is more stable.
I think this is a major fabrication issue, because apparently, at least I couldn't find anyone that doesn't have this problem.
Anyone doesn't have this issue on X1?
I believe that som X1's have the wheelrattle, but not all that rattle are because of the wheels.
There's an example on how my phone sounds after the second repair of the batterycompartment crack.

Guys!
Its just the sound of the sort-of-free volume/camera buttons
If you just touch both during shacking, you will make sure that there is no tick sound
I guess
nu it's the wheels guiding the screen. if you press the screen up and down , you will see that the noise dissapears. it's as clear as possible explained in the pictures above

My noise does not dissappear when putting pressure on the wheels..
Listen to my X1 rattle here and see if you have the same rattle.
When I press the touch screen of my Touch HD, it bends. It's like there is a top layer on the screen that can bend. there is quite a lot of travel and this seems very weird, the travel is mainly at the middle of the screen.
I'm coming from the Touch Diamond where it felt like the entire touch screen is made out of glass and can not bend at all.
Is this normal ?
...
can you post some pictures?
Mine bends like >0.1 mm.
Now that you mention it, it bends a lot more than the qtek s200 that I had.
Do you have any pressure sensitivity problem?
If not I think it's normal.

agreed, this is normal. it isnt glass
my opinion is that is normal
thing about the large surface of the screen, the thin layers that it is made of and the fact that there is nothing on the back to prevent the bending
i belive even if it was made of steel the bending would be there
Thanks guys.
I can't post pics because the effect is too minimal to be seen. I don't seem to have major pressure sensitivity issues, maybe something minimal, especially at the middle of the screen, this was more obvious when aligning the screen, the X at the center took a few clicks to register... but in normal usage it seems to be fine.
As far as I know the HD has a resistive touch screen like most touch screen phones do. If you search for the wiki on touch screens you'll see that the screen is supposed to bend very slightly. That's how it works.
This is normal
My first set bend quite obviously and i did a 1-to-1 exchange. The second set is slightly better thou at certain areas, it bends a bit more than the rest. I find this kinda annoying as why the diamond and pro doesn't bend when both utilizes resistive screen too? Some other phones like the omnia that utilizes resistive screen don't bend either. Just a thought.
On smaller screens it's less noticeable, that's all.
It's just a resistive touchscreen feature.

Mine only bends in the lower center but it is noticeable and very annoying. Also i need to press with pressure on screen to make make selection needed. It might be correct that the screen resolution is great but i feel sorry for that cheap type of screens installed.
If you need to press more on that area then it's not normal, my screen doesn't seem to bend at all, and I don't need to put more force in the center to "click"
So should I ask for replacement ? I feel like pressing on 2 layer screen when taping. the first layer bends to touch the second.
I contacted the dealer, They took a look at the device and told me that they can do nothing as long as the screen is fully fonctional. Actually it is really annoying to feel the screen bending when u press on it with ur thumb. I wish I didnt buy that device....

i noticed the same thing after few days of having my HD....when touching the center of the screen i can feel the two layers more than in the edges...but i never feel the need to press harder there.....
finally, when i use the phone not thinking about that, i really doesn´t notice that at all...so it's just a mental thing for me ...

It is normal. The bending is what makes that type of screen work.
It happens in all the Touch HD's since the screen is not capacitive (like the one in iPhone) but resistive (it is not glass but kind of plastic that is very easy to scratch). It feels the pressure and not the "touch".
So it has to bend...
For me it is the worst thing about Touch HD and all the windows mobile devices: the fact of using a much cheaper resistive screen (and with much less sensivity) instead of a capacitive one...
The only advantage is that it is possible to use the stylus. For me it would be MUCH better with a capacitive touch screen. But since it uses windows mobile, the device is always "stylus dependent" so a capacitive touch screen would make some functions (that require the stylus) very hard to use.
So if you want a capacitive touch screen buy an iphone or an android device. Those were made from the beggining to use with the finger. Windows mobile was made to use with the stylus and now there are some improvements (some kind of "mask" like touchflo 3D) that make possible to use the finger. But unhappyly it will always require the stylus for some functions.
Anyone else having issues with proximity sensor not turning screen off?

Are you using a screen protector/case?
Solved here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001861
Basically, if you've got a screen protector covering the proximity sensor (top left) you could have problems.
Explain more please..
I think this is a problem not related to the Nexus 4 but related to Android 4.2
My problem is. During voice calls the screen goes off. During Skype calls the screen is always on. Do you think you had something like this?
The issue is, I used to have my screen protector all the time and it didn't cause a problem. I can't remove it now because I am at a bit of a rough environment now and I need to know if this is something related to Skype or related to the new 4.2 Android..
Update: Skype got updated and with this update the proximity issue was fixed. I read about this and someone told that something that is related to proximity sensor detection during calls got its name changed. After the last Skype update everything is going just fine. Too bad I am selling my Galaxy Nexus as I've already got my Nexus 4

I am having the same problem. Does not seem to ever turn off. No screen protector or case. Just normal incoming and outgoing phone calls.
I got the 4.2.1 update yesterday and am not having the problem anymore. I don't know if that was supposed to fix it or if it was coincidence

Same here (Version 3.0.0.6181), screen wont go off during calls, I reported it here: http://community.skype.com/t5/Android/Screen-is-always-on-when-during-voice-calls/m-p/1320173#M21997
same problem, unique solution
So I also dropped mine a few weeks ago and had to replace the screen. Upon replacing the old components into the new screen and frame, I *thought* I had been careless and mangled my audio jack ribbon, so I ordered a new one off Ebay. When IT didn't work, I knew something had to be up, so I started testing vs options in this thread and others. I hung the sensor loose and verified that it did indeed work unplugging and replugging it in and using "Proximity Sensor" (Google Play app) .. finally found a position it worked best in, also took the T5 screwdriver, ran it through the holes (ran it through is an incorrect term, I simply removed the purple haze I could see looking through it towards a light) .. even with this modification, something was pushing it out of the way and actually disconnecting it when I put the plastic cover back on (which I fortunately tested before completely reassembling the phone!! ) ..my overall solution was to cut the corner piece off the back plastic cover, making sure not to lose the metal piece, and it's working fine. I tested about 10 times as I'm reassembling and putting the phone all back together, and it now works properly.
So you might try carefully cutting a plastic corner off if software fixes are not working for you.
Where did you cut? Do you have a picture? I just replace my front glass and my proximity sensor is bugged... It thinks I'm close to it all the time.. Out of the casing it works fine but the second I install it, it stops working.
Did you leave the small rubber part in there?
I had exact same prob.
Dropped, replaced digitizer, agonized over prox sensor, bought new one, scrapped off purple tint.
Can you post pics of the plastic you relieved plz??
So many weird issues with my N4 compared to all of my other N phones that I'm seriously considering getting a Moto X.

this is how you fix it. dumbies
There is an incredibly easy fix for this!! Everyone on every site is either saying its unfixable or you have to like mess with the hardware. Completely unnecessary. This is how I fixed it.
1. Download ScreenOff Lite in Google play store.
2. Open app, go into settings, then all settings
3. Make sure only these options have a check next to it:
-disable in landscape mode
-enable during call only
-Locks phone on screen on
4. Go back to the apps main menu and press "Start Service"
Wallahh!! You are done! Your phone's messed up proximity sensor will not turn off now during calls.

Your approach was quite similar to mine so I figured I'd post some images to help others who are attempting the same fix. My light sensor wasn't working either so this process also fixed that.
Location of tint to scratch off:

I used a small safety pin and held up the LCD/digitizer/frame to a light source so that I could see what I was doing a little better.
Location of the plastic tabs to cut off the mid frame:
On mine, when the sensor was pressed in too far into the recess I'd get zero light reading and the proximity sensor would activate; indicating that something was in the way. The rectangular plastic part on the mid frame pushes down on the flex ribbon that the proximity sensor is attached to. I also needed to remove one of the strips which sits alongside the headphone jack as it was also pushing down on the sensor too much. Using a sharp craft knife I cut off the plastic flush with the screw holes .That was what my particular sensor needed so that it worked after everything was screwed and clipped back together but YMMV so I'd suggest experimenting with what works best for you.
The flex cable sits pretty snugly in the recess without much support so I think it'd take a decent drop for it to move again. Tested plugging and unplugging my headphones a few times and everything still works so I'm crossing my fingers that everything will be fine from this point forward.
other option
All of these fixes are good options but there are many factors that could contribute to a faulty proximity sensor. Recently a friend of mine replaced his screen and afterwords his proximity sensor would always register as having something near it. He tried many software fixes but in the end he opened his phone back up to find a bunch of dust collected on the sensor. The fix was as simple as gently blowing off the sensor and putting everything back together.
I hope this helps

BEWARE this suggestion. With nothing more than the install I was not even able to turn on the screen with the power button (Nexus 4). Had to wait for the battery to drain and factory reset from recovery screen...
Hi, i allso have a strange problem with the proximity sensor.
During a call the screen turns off but if i touch the screen it's actually active so many times i found many things messed up, the status bar dragged and so on...
I haev to mention that the screen + frame was changed. If anyone else faced this problem or know a way to slove it..
proximity sensor
just replaced mine today. Screen digitizer/frame had the same problem. Most people that replace their screen will have this problem, First off install a proximity sensor app from the play store and check if the sensor is working or not. There is many reasons this sensor is a pain and many ways to fix it. Google is your friend, in my case it was as simple as reversing the rubber with the 2 small holes that is attached to the ear phone jack (also part of the proximity sensor) one hole is smaller then the other but it wont matter. I look at it like flipping a tap washer and you get a bran new seal worked for me. Try the easy fix first then work your way up if need be.
can confirm this works as i just repaired a second n4 with the same problem and the sensor works great

Fixed FINALLY!
Similar story here. I dropped my phone after having it less than a month. Broke the screen. I ordered a new screen assembly from LG ($140!) and fixed it myself. Only later did I discover that my proximity sensor no longer worked. I did not want to take it apart again. So I suffered with no proximity sensor for six months. I set the phone to hang up calls using the power button. And I plugged in a headset when I listened to voicemail. For some reason, the screen stayed on when a headset was plugged in.
Anyway, today after reading other stories similar to mine, I was emboldened to take the phone apart once more and try to fix this thing. I thought it was out of alignment or something. What I discovered instead was that it seemed to work perfectly when the phone was taken apart. It was only after final assembly that it failed. I took a closer look at my old screen assembly (yes, I had saved it all this time) and discovered a tiny missing part. It's a little rubber rectangular holder for the proximity sensor. It looks like this:
Those of you that still have your old screen, look for this part and install it in the new screen. It's easily missed. It fixed it once and for all for me.

I‘ll really appreciate if anyone can explain or possibly fix the damage of the AMOLED display/screen on my Samsung Galaxy S8. The screen has a few odd characteristics after it was accidentally damaged by heat. (Because I put hot takeway food into my bag that has my phone in it.) The screen started showing the following problems after the accident.)
1) the screen has a permanent yellowish/greenish tint
This tint is visible even in the boot up device name & Samsung logo screen, so I don’t think it’s caused by software. This makes the colours on the screenlook less vibrant and less saturated.
{

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2) the screen cannot display pure black.
In the black background of pictures in gallery and especially while charging when powered off, it is easy to see that what’s black is now gray. (Refer to photos below) When the phone is off, the bezel and the display is the same black color. When the display is on, the grey color makes the top and bottom bezel of the phone visible. On all Samsung AMOLED display, the black part is not supposed to light up because it’s an OLED display, but now it appears like an LCD with backlight bleed.
3) always on display doesn’t work anymore and show something like a static screen during always on display.
(refer to the video:
)
The clock and home button doesn’t show and the screen will show that weird static effect slowly. (takes around 30 seconds)
4) the screen is unusable at 20 to 80% brightness
(refer to the video:
)
At 20-80% brightness, everything on the screen become blurry and any animation causes ghosting of the image. On a non white image, the display will form horizontal white lines across the screen, obscuring the content on the screen. Strangely, none of the problems occur when the screen is at 0-20% and 80-100% brightness, the display appears normal and perfectly usable.
(This is the dealbreaker that forced me get a new phone to replace this S8)
Looks like a blown driver(s).
Try clearing the system cache and a hard reboot but I doubt this will help.
A hard reset will do nothing.
I had sunlight + charging blow out the drivers on my S4+

I was hoping that the display could be recalibrated for the brightness and color issues, but I don't know if the display itself or the driver embedded in the motherboard is physically damaged. Replacing either component is close to the resell value of a good condition S8, so I don't plan on doing that.
