[Q] "Share Function" in Music Player - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this just here in Germany, or has Samsung removed the "Share" function in the onboard Media Player "Music"...? Used to be able to listen to a song and send it to someone else via email, WhatsApp, etc... right from the menu in the player.

Probably the result of the copyright companies overreacting again...

Why is it when I say "listen to (artist)" it defaults to search youtube for (artist) and not playing it from my library?

It only searches for music using specific apps, like Pandora, Last.fm, etc. More info here:
google.com/support/forum/p/Google%20Mobile/thread?tid=55fb6a373cd1ed60&hl=en
If they wanted to add music search on the device, then they would have to know what music is available on the device, and this is much harder than just taking whatever you said after the phrase "listen to" and plugging it into an online music app.

So since august they still haven't come out with an update to the stock music player to allow me to say "listen to mgmt" and mgmt starts playing from my music library?

Right, and I wouldn't hold my breath for this change either. All of Google's voice recognition is done on the cloud, which means that they either need to send all of your music info up to the cloud in order to recognize your specific songs, artists, etc, which they could do, or they need to change strategies and work on an embedded recognizer to handle this all on the device (so they wouldn't need to send your music info to the cloud), which I'd bet they won't do.

I disagree they could do a text search of what they thought you said versus your local audio collection based on artist/song title tag. So the could would still be used for speech recognition but the text search could be done on the phone.

You're right, and to be honest, I'm kind of surprised someone hasn't written an Android app to do this using Android's voice recognition API. The only issue would be that for some songs/artists it wouldn't work as well as it could if it had access to the actual song titles and artist names for the music that was available on the device, but it would probably work good enough for most people.
On a related note, you'll notice that Google's built-in Voice Actions does not allow you to call contacts that are only on the device: you can only call or send text or whatever using contacts that are in your gmail contact list. Again, this is because Google has your gmail contact list on their servers, and if they wanted to do contact name recognition well using contacts on the device, then they would need to use an embedded recognizer or send the contact list to the cloud. As you'll notice, this is kind of a fundamental issue that pops up again and again when doing voice recognition in the cloud vs on the device.

[Q] 1000 song limit for playlist on xoom?

I'm using isyncr mac for my xoom and have noticed both on my xoom and g2x that the new music program limits playlists to 1000 songs. On the g2x the "original" music player shows all the songs, almost 2000. anyone else notice this? Using other programs on both devices, ie fedes music player, playerpro etc the playlist show all songs. Is this a limit to the music player? thanks for any input
ps, not sure if this belongs in QnA or general. my bad
I asked Google support about this, and their response was:
"Hi,
Thank you for your note. There is currently a playlist limitation of 1000
songs. We appreciate your raising this issue, as we will review it as a
potential feature improvement in the next release.
Regards,
Eunice
The Music Beta Team"
Hey, thanks alot! Do you have a link of where you talked to Google about it?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
I used the help option in the music app, and then 'contact us'.
Sent from my %s 3G using XDA App.
this really sucks. I listen to playlist exclusively. I really want to drop my ipod and using google music for all my music, but if they cant get this basic feature working then forget it.

Is there any way of syncing this with iTunes?

Yes, I use iTunes as my music player. Just stuck on me.
Anyway, I can sync iTunes with my EVO easily using iTunes Agent. I can't do this with my Galaxy Tab 10.1. I tried copy pasting the music files from the EVO into the Music folder of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, some work then I get a constant message saying "Cannot copy, device is either disconnected or is not responding."
There has got to be a simpler way to do this, and I'm getting really frustrated.
I used DoubleTwist, and it works somewhat, but it won't import my purchased iTunes songs.
Doubletwist
agreed, doubletwist is pretty cool
I use isyncr.

Ewww... iTunes?! Ugh!
iTunes is the worst... just drag and drop.
The best way would be to get all your music the hell out of iTunes and into the Google Music cloud.

That will never happen and it's not Google or Samsung's fault.

I still use iTunes because I really like the Smart Playlists. That said, I also use iSyncr because it maintains my Smart Playlist play counts no matter whether I listen to music from my GT, my Droid X or on my PC. I also sync iSyncr via wi-fi so no cables needed. Gotta love it!
Let me re-phrase it:
Is there any FREE way of syncing ALL my music from iTunes?
LOL
Dragging and dropping won't work for me. It only works for like 20 minutes, then I get a message saying "Device has been disconnected or has stopped working."
I think iSyncr is $2.99. I would recommend biting the bullet and breaking out your wallet...

Rephrasing won't change my answer. You will NEVER be able to sync songs purchased from the Apple store that are not DRM free with a non-Apple device.
You will have to convert each one of those songs from DRM coded AAC to clean AAC or clean MP3. Right click on songs in iTunes that you purchased and see if this option is available to you. It will will vary per record company (or at least it used to - it's been years since I've bothered with this).
I play purchased iTunes music on my Android phone and via Google Music all the time.
Apple went DRM free over 2 years ago. If you've built your iTunes purchase collection in that recent time frame then it can be dragged and dropped onto Android phones and the Google Music cloud.
If you bought tracks from before then then they can be "upgraded" to DRM free versions (typically with higher bitrates to give you something for your money) for around 30 cents per track. If you've invested heavily in iTunes purchases before then, then that may be a nasty dent in your wallet, but if you just have a few then it's not that bad to upgrade them.
The only issue I've run into is that I still have 3 albums that they never offered me to upgrade that have DRM on them, but the vast majority of my iTunes purchased music was upgraded to DRM-free over the past 2 years.
Well you can burn the DRM albums to a cd and then rip the same cd in itunes again... I did that when i had a couple of albums in itunes that also was not offrec to be upgraded to drm free...
Here where i live it is a gray area to do that but i cant speak about the laws other places in the world.
(When i say gray area it is because it have been proved in court that removing DRM is not iligal if you need to do it to play on your devices. (The ruling was about playing dvd's in Linux tho but the same apply for my music now here))
Google music searched my pc and placec all my itunes music in the cloud for me

Isyncr reverses playlists...

So i bought isncr to sync my music & playlists from itunes. It works fine apart from the playlist tracks being inverted i.e. 1st track is now the last track & vice versa. Very odd as when i look at the m3u files they are listed correctly ...
I'm running 3.1 at the mo....
Does anyone know why this happens?

It's because iTunes is a horrible behemoth of garbage piled on garbage. I'm serious.
But the m3u files created by isyncr are correct so nothing to do with itunes... it must be how the samsung music app reads and displays m3u playlists.....?
Does this happen in other music players? My guess is not.
If I recall, this happens with the default player on the Samsung Fascinate, so I'm not surprised that it is happening in another Samsung music player.

I only have the Samsung player installed as it is rather nice. I just wanted to confirm that it was a player issue which it sounds like....Hopefully a future update will fix it....
Anyone know how to overcome this? I have lots of deep playlists which are now in the wrong order :-(
Is there a setting for the Samsung player?

share the mp3 option in google music app

Hi
if th google music app is open, can someone develop the possibility to share the current song or album with a friend, directly in mp3, via mail or other ways?
It could be a share button in the menu, allowing to share the song or the album.
Is it possible?
thanks
