I don't know if it bothers you guys but I find it silly that Sammy has put action memo to open from the air command menu instead of S-Note.
I don't find that this program is adequate, not even for a quick note, I like the parametrization of S-Note much more. I mean you can change the color of the background/ pen but not the pen itself?? It is inconvenient for me to write a note with this pen setting(very slim).
So my question is (and I find it improbable at least for the time being), but do do you know if there's any way to change it from the air command menu? So instead of action memo, it will open S-Note or a third party program for instance?

I'm still learning about the device and getting used to it, but I totally agree at this stage. +1 I wonder if this is in the capability of ROM developers or whether there is already a menu option available.
Cheers.
Actually action memo is great for a quick jot down when required. The way I have set it up is as ca widget. You can directly write on the widget instead of clicking a button every time. Also the widget itself Allows you to scroll through all the memos. Genius implementation by Samsung I feel

My problem is neither to write quickly nor to have a widget but the thin pen that I cannot change and makes awkward the writing..

I totally hate action memo, I wish I could replace it from the air commander with something useful..
What annoys me is that it does not save automatically and the save button will also close the app. So it happened to me twice already, that I left a memo open, while I was discussing with a colleague and jotting down some notes. Then I walked away, forgot about the memo and when I came back IT WAS GONE...
I am not sure why and I cannot reproduce it on purpose, but for me a note taking app where your notes randomly disappear is utterly useless. Then I rather have a pen and paper.
Maby offtopic, but you can enter action memo at anywhere by holding down the button on s-pen and doubletapping anywhere on the screen. And I think action memo is very usable because of this.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium HD app
The problem is that action memos do not show up in s note and therefore cannot be synchronized with Samsung or evernote. This is an insane, short sighted decision, and has reduced the note taking effectiveness for me immeasurably. Double tap to quick note was my most used feature on the note 2 and 8, now that those notes don't show up in s note and can't be synchronized, makes the feature next to useless for me. What were Samsung thinking? Utter lunacy. And don't get me started on the migration of old version s notes into new s note. That was an utter fail on multiple levels. I ended up having to beam 100 notes by Bluetooth and manually convert each of them. A total mess.
Sent from my GT-N5100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
1. Double tap with pen button held still works the same as note 2 - which brings up action memo.
2. All Acton memo can be exported to not only s note and evernote but a host of other formats using share via feature

3. Regarding older s note compatibility - first u need to make atleast one new s note so that a folder 'snote data' gets created. Then just drop all your snote(note 2) into this folder and when you click on them note 3 will auto concert them and open it for you. Its that simple
To edit the older s note content just long tap hold on the area you want edit until selected.

frustration with action memo
I completely agree with CC Campbell. In fact reading his post was what made me decide to register W the XDA Developers site. The notion that action memo (which we're forced to use for popup notes now instead of S Note) does not automatically tie to S note, does not automatically sync to Evernote, etc is a complete deal breaker for me. I did try the "share" to Evernote and s note approach, but this requires several steps: saving out of the action Memo, going to the action memo app, selecting share at the bottom, and then checking or check boxing the applicable note. Not exactly the automatic note saving approach i had in.mind when upgrading to this phone!
Of equal importance, because action memos are not titled, they are very unlikely to show up in a google now phone search.
There should be a way 2 have the same quick access to s note, the much more useful app for my purposes, like action memo has., whether it be added to the Air Command, were given as an alternative automatic pop up pon pon removal. Have you guys found any workaround for this is ridiculous flaw?
You can try the app S Pen Launcher.

According to what your specific needs are, this app or SwypePad or GMD Gesture Control are must have apps.
I use GMD and it's solved one of the 3 Android's only big shortcomings: lack of "ALT+TAB" and switch to previous/next app.

This app has a feature for that too. But I like the way you can customize it completely with any command or app and also that it wraps around your finger. My thumb is not long enough to use SwipePad on this phone.
But with the pie in LMT, I can handle 20 different commands and shortcuts by holding it in one hand, using my thumb.
This is what it's all about:

Out of those 3 LMT is the one I too like most but it has a couple of issues which make me use GMD instead (at least at this time):
- it lacks the built-in capability to launch app-created shortcuts (you have to install and thinker with 2 other apps: Tasker and Autoshortcut)
To me that means, above all, that I can't make it go to a specific Nova Launcher Prime page like GMD can and, most importantly, it can't launch an RTF file created by Solid Explorer.
- it makes that shortcut-launched RTF file crash (shortcut on the home created by Solid Explorer and opened in Thinkfree Word) whenever I try to switch back to it with the "prev app"/"next app" controls and that's one of the apps I need most often to switch back to.
As it is LMT is unusable for me but I keep on checking its updates to see if/when these issues are resolved as if/once it does LMT is practically perfect..
I don't think they are comparable. You are not going to get the kind of one-finger control GMD that the PIE offers in LMT.
What I really miss with the Note 2 is to be able to reach the hardware buttons with my thumb while holding the phone in one hand without dropping it.
The pie is that and 16 other commands that you can access with your thumb alone.

Absolutely true but I am not interested in one hand use.
I have always found very annoying trying to operate ANY touchscreen mobile device with one hand (doesn't matter the screen size).
What I am interested in are gesture/quick ways to ALT+TAB between apps, switch to previous/next app, go to the Home screen, open the Recent Apps list, turn off the screen/lock the device AND launch/switch back to my most used apps.
Both of them do that and LMT does it much better EXCEPT the very last thing I listed above and detailed in my previous post which LMT does not at all. As soon as LMT can do that too I will happily switch to LMT!
I tried it in the early stages on my hd2.. but then went onto use zmooth.... now I use button savior on the note 2....but seems this app has progressed alot now. ..Thanks for reminding. .. got to try it now
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
On the N8, 10.1 one can use a two finger pich to change keyboard modes (fixed, floating, split). On the 12.2 you cannot. this is especially annoying when in multiwindow mode and it defaults to the tiny floating keyboard. Am I missing a setting or is there a workaround?
+1 for any info on this. I thought the keyboard button was on every configuration of the keyboard, but it doesn't seem to show up in the multi window keyboard.

Not as elegant or easy as with the two-finger gesture. Also, doesnt always revert to ABC keyboard after putting away pen.
Would like to see the two-finger gesture ported over. Its embarrassing to show off multiwindow, have small keyboard pop up. Is there way to default to full keyboard regardless of window configuration?

Wasnt just embarrising today, it slowed me down. Remoted in to my files and had webmail side by side, had to fiddle to get full screen keyboard.
I will say this thing has saved my ass 100 times over already. Its def. works in a highly professional environment (in this case, $1bln+ bond closing). Very useful to carry around the room, fix documents etc.
This is a nice alternative to the samsung keyboard. It isnt quite as ergonomic as the built in one but it wont default to a mini one when you are using the multi window
It is called hackers keyboard and is free on the play store. It is highly configureable and should be exactly what you are looking for.
hi guys, i just got my galaxy s5 2 days ago,
i can tell it seems nice, but?
1- the tapping sometimes seems not callebrated!! like when i click to show the menu in data usage, it gives me the list to select/unselect the "restrict background data" but i can't select it!! same in many other menus, these menues which they changed from the press bottun hardware into a software menu to select, i can't select the ristrict background data, it is either going to above it "data roaming" or below it "enable wifi measure" how i can callebrate it? how i can make the touch work fine!!?? i even tried to use a thin pen softly many times, i just can't control some menus like the one i said about, also in messages (SMS) when trying to open a first message in the list, it opens for me "create new message instead" looks like the hit comes on the place that is above what i tap!!! any idea why?
2- i want to make the clock alarm put the das like S M T W T F S, but it keep reading starts from Monday, i've selected the regional settings correct "Dubai/ UAE" and made sure that is all like my old S3 which was fine, but i just couldn't make it appear as startting from Sunday!!! any idea?
3- when i am on the home screen, going right, goes to the right page, fine, going right again, goes to the next page, fine, but if i go left, it opens the magazine thing, i don't want it, i just want it to open the last page normally like you are flipping the pages, how i can do that?
THIS IS SOLVED, I COULD DISABLE THIS MAGAZINE THING, PLEASE IGNORE THIS NUMBER 3, THERE ARE SETTINGS THAT YOU CAN ENABLE AND DISABLE
4- the usb input place is really disgussting, everytime you need to carefully remove the cover and each ones you have to make sure you do it carefully not to spoil it, is seems thin and can't handle pressure, i just don't know why they put it,,,, any idea how to remove it "without breaking it" out of the device, so to keep it aside and may use it later for example??
5- i am planning to keep my s3 as secondary phone, and wanna like only to sync contacts of google account that used in the s5, nothing more, no apps or google play stuff, only for backup call solution if needed, so what is the best practice to achieve this? if i put my gmail account it will download and install all apps which installed on s5, and i don't want that, what is the best practice for this?
6- how to create a folder on the main home screens? i can't find this option yet
thanks for your time guys
#6. Long press an icon you want in a folder. Options appear. While still holding down on the icon move up to where it says make a folder. Then you can name the folder and add more apps to it.

thanks, that works, i could create a folder
number 6 is done, still the first question, specially the selecting from the menu, makes me crazy, i can't select all menues, even when in main apps place, click menu and can't select "create folder" for example, seems the touch is not working as supposed to!!! some menu can't be really selected, is it a touch problem? hardware? my device problem? gets me really crazay, i want to trestict background data but i can't select it!!! same in sms, if select the first sms, it takes me to priority set options, which is above the first sms list... is it the touch callebration? how i can solve this? what about the other questions?
the option for number 3 if anyone else is looking for it, go to your home page, long press the rescent apps button, hit home screen settings, uncheck my magazine
oh, just noticed your other reply to Q no2
exactly dear, i have it on my galaxy s5 starting from Monday!!! is this picture from s5? for me i've selected english as language, and standard gulf time, is there any other settings that i need to change?
guys, nobody is facing this tapping callebration issue in the S5? i affraid my mobile device is the only one doing this, so i have to return it back to vendor,
please advise

It does seem like a hardware problem to me, but I can't say for sure of course.
I never had such problems though.
Mithrandir007,
if you have the s5, can you please go to data usage, and click on that menu button up there, then try to select the strict background data, is that works and selected normally?
problem is i can select everything else on the phone, only this new menu list, in some occasions, i cant select the first or the second option, same for new folder in the apps list, same also in the sms list...
please, anybody can confirm or explain anything related?

device was defective in hardware, even software update (fresh software installation) did not help. unfortunately, many people had the same problem as Samsung representative stated earlier today, they took the device from me and will arrange for replacement soon. this is FYI guys.
So, the Note 2 and Note 3 (and supposedly the S5) have the option in the settings for "one Handed Operation" that moves the input devices (QWERTY keyboard and Numeric Dialer) to far edge of the phone (Left for Left Handers or Right for Right Handers).
It's supposed to make using the phone with one hand easier, especially for people like me that are coming from smaller phones.
How do I enable this setting in the S4?
If it's not possible, what app do I need to install or what do I have to do to make this happen?
I'm really surprised that this wasn't an option when the phone launched.
I'm also really surprised that when the phone is turned sideways, the keyboard blocks the view of almost the entire screen.
Samsung should just superimpose the keyboard over whatever is on the screen and make the keyboard "trasnparent" so you can still see what is "behind" the keyboard.
Thank you for viewing my thread.
Any help will be most appreciated.
Just for reference, the below is the "chat" I had with Samsung before posting this thread.
Verlin: Yes, that is correct. There is no option for one handed operation on the Galaxy S4.
Me: what about a way of downloading the setting or an application? Samsung should make this setting available on the S4 if it's available for the Note 2
Verlin: Lets hope in future updates.
Verlin: There is one hand operating on the Galaxy S5.
Verlin: From the main Settings screen, tap Controls > One-handed operation.
Verlin: Tap the OFF / ON icon next to One-handed operation to the right to turn it on.
Verlin: Complete the set up process by grabbing the device in one hand and then in a single motion, swipe your thumb from the edge of the screen towards the middle and then back.
Me: Can can you verify. Sprint employees could not do so at the store.
Verlin: From home, tap Apps > Settings.
Verlin: Tap Sound and display > One-handed operation.
Update:
After 2 hours of chatting and calling Samsung customer service and then Google Customer service, I've just stared downloading keyboard apps and am playing with them to see if they do what I'm looking for.
SwiftKey Keyboard Free allows you move the Keyboard around, and resize it.
I still can't stand that the keyboard blocks your view of the screen.
Is there a keyboard available that is "superimposed" over whatever is on the touchscreen so you can see "through" it while typing ????
Thanks.

Hey @tt c6 ... based on the PM you sent me, I am guessing you are on SAC23 S4 ROM ???
If so... he added the feature. It is not a standard feature supplied by Samsung.
I now have the Note 3, and do not remember all the settings menu....but go to settings, and I think display and look for one hand operation.
I think it is there and you turn it on and it will work.
Let me know if this is correct or not and I will get the right answer if it is not correct...;
Thanks and God Bless

Hello everyone, I'm the dev for Javelin Browser. Javelin was launched less than 2 months back. And now, I am putting extra effort in making it work perfect on the Nexus 5. I think, Javelin browser is the best browser for Nexus 5 over Chrome or any other browsers, for the following 3 reasons. A - MULTI-TASK truly with Javelin Stack. AKA Link-Bubble functionality. Javelin Stack allows you to Open links in other apps and view in without switching back and forth to the full browser. B - BLOCK annoying ads Native ad-block means faster load speeds, use less data. C - KITKAT TRANSPARENCY Javelin is the ONLY browser that makes full use of KitKat's transparent status and navigation bars so you can view the entire website on your screen. Other Javelin features:
[*]1-touch navigation gestures
[*]Built-in VPN
[*]Uses AOSP WebView
[*]Reading mode

My only annoyance with the browser is when backing up or pressing x on the open tab, please make it go back to the home page rather than this black screen only to have to make it load the home screen again because there's nothing else you can do from there
I've just noticed a fairly big issue for me: If I select "request desktop versions" of websites in the settings (by the way, please remove "update" from "update settings") my wireless provider instantly claims I am using my phone as a hotspot and disabled my data connection... is there an alternative desktop mode method that does not make my provider thing I'm tethering?
edit: didn't mean to quote there
edit 2: requesting desktop mode on a site-by-site basis (rather than blanket through settings) it still does it. Doing the same thing through Chrome for Android, however, loads the desktop version as normal without triggering the tether warning.
Suggests to me that the user agent string being used by Javelin for requesting desktop sites is different to that which Chrome uses... could this please be fixed to use the same as the Chrome for Android desktop mode?

Hey! Love this browser result... I have noticed one thing that I can't find a resolution for, if you're browsing a long page there's no quick way to scroll all the way to the top and the address bar doesn't seem to show up before that.
Other than that, it's awesome. just my feedback

Swipe down with 2 fingers and the tab window opens. Then you can double tap on the tab and it will scroll to the top of the page.

Let's hope in the next version of Android, Google will release a better WebView that will NOT be laggy. Hopefully one that use for Chrome.
Guys since the 4.4.3 update things on Javelin seem much faster for me. Not sure if placebo or not, can someone else confirm this?

Either it's placebo, cleaner cache, or the update included some performance tweaks to webview...
Really nice browser you created :good:
