On the N8, 10.1 one can use a two finger pich to change keyboard modes (fixed, floating, split). On the 12.2 you cannot. this is especially annoying when in multiwindow mode and it defaults to the tiny floating keyboard. Am I missing a setting or is there a workaround?
+1 for any info on this. I thought the keyboard button was on every configuration of the keyboard, but it doesn't seem to show up in the multi window keyboard.

Not as elegant or easy as with the two-finger gesture. Also, doesnt always revert to ABC keyboard after putting away pen.
Would like to see the two-finger gesture ported over. Its embarrassing to show off multiwindow, have small keyboard pop up. Is there way to default to full keyboard regardless of window configuration?

Not that I know of. Maybe you could something to uninstall. I thin there is a keyboard on the app store that can be set up similarly

Wasnt just embarrising today, it slowed me down. Remoted in to my files and had webmail side by side, had to fiddle to get full screen keyboard.
I will say this thing has saved my ass 100 times over already. Its def. works in a highly professional environment (in this case, $1bln+ bond closing). Very useful to carry around the room, fix documents etc.
This is a nice alternative to the samsung keyboard. It isnt quite as ergonomic as the built in one but it wont default to a mini one when you are using the multi window
It is called hackers keyboard and is free on the play store. It is highly configureable and should be exactly what you are looking for.

I tried to google / search this forum, but my poor search terms did not give any good hits..
Anyone?

I've not seen anything like that, but the Tablet Keyboard has the number keys across the top--it's just like a pc keyboard and really easy to use --also has a split mode.
did you try swype beta 3.25? you can switch between the number keypad and standard keyboard with a swipe.

That keyboard looks amazing. Hopefully we can get something like that ported to the xoom.

This would indeed be great keyboard on the XOOM, even the HTC keyboards would look great if we could get them onto the XOOM ('._.')

Look at the Hacker's Keyboard-it has a number pad/dialer and also a split option.
Ever since my switch over to Android a few years back from my iPhone 3G, I've always been waiting for such a feature in Android that will give me the ability to tap the notification bar and instantly scroll back to the top in any app that requires scrolling. I've never once asked for this feature once until now. I've Googled it and it seems to be a rare topic. Do Android users know if this such feature? Because it seems like an easy concept and assuming wouldn't be difficult to incorporate a mod into Android... or would it?

Used to like that feature on the iphone a year back. But don't you think that it is also possible to just flung one time and the whole page goes up? In iOS the flings are not continuous. To me at least. I would love to have this though.

I agree, that's one feature that android is sorely lacking.

Yes, that is what I have to do now. But when I'm reading a long article, flinging up on the page 20 times gets old.
I think Apple would sue Google if that feature was intriduced to Android
I think the new Samsung Galaxy S 3 has an gesture with scrolls in any list to the top. You just tap the top of the phone twice.
It's weird that just few people care of this feature, which is very cool, I miss it so much

nope. i'd never use this if it were rolled into android. it seems very un-natural to tap the notification bar to go to the top. let iOS have this one....we don't want it anyway.
Well, some of us do. Seems like it would be something fairly easy to do with some dev knowledge.

So you would rather swipe over and over to reach the top of a loooonnng list rather than tapping the status bar once? Oooooooook.

you better try to experience this feature, then decide it's natural or un-natural.
in general, 1 side: users have to swipe many many times to come to the top of the page; another side: just a tap then done(just like the home key on PC) - smooth and easy. Think and compare

Today I stumbled upon a cool app called GMD Gesture Control, it basically allows you to define global gestures that can be used anywhere and that can do any kind of action, kinda like the "pinch" gesture found in the ipad that closes the current app. The gestures can be defined with custom directions, actions or number of fingers. So you can for example swipe with two fingers down from the top edge of the screen for the device to go to sleep if you have an unreliable sleep button.
Here's the steps needed to be taken to use this app on lg optimus one:
1- Get the app, you can use the lite version for now which disables itself when the mobile is locked and needs to be re enabled, but it gives you a good idea of how the app works:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...dvb2Rtb29kZHJvaWQuZ2VzdHVyZWNvbnRyb2xkZW1vIl0.
2- Launch the app for the first time, it will show an error that the device is not recognized, here you have to override the default settings to support our mobile, you can do this by tapping the "advanced" tab at the far right, then you will find 2 options at the end of the list, enable both by tapping the "on" button. Then from the "Override multitouch device detection" list choose "touch_mcs6000", then choose from the "override touch events parser detection" list the option "HC_DEFAULT".
3- Restart the service from the main "General" tab, please note that I couldn't get our mobile to support more than 2 fingers gestures, keep that in mind when defining custom gestures or choose "single touch gestures" option in the default gestures tab.
Hope that you all find this useful, this app is extremely fun to use to switch between apps quickly, I use a swipe from the left-right bottom corner to switch between previous/next app. You can really create any kind of creative gesture as you like.

I'm sure i'm missing something here..
I can't get my Nexus 7 stock keyboard (stock OTA 4.1.1) to longpress the top row and get numbers... eg: Longpress 'Q' to get '1'.
It doesn't show the small numbers on top of the keys either.
Have tried changing some setting, I also tried changing keyboard language but nothing :/
My nexus S is updated with Jellybean (stock OTA 4.1) and it does work.
Anyone got the same issue?

i still don't understand why the tablet stock keyboard does not have that functionality... is there any specific reason why they would take that option off?
It just doesnt.
Not sure who would answer that or provide you with an answer you would accept... Just get another keyboard, there are many to choose from.

This one is for you
Actually the standard keyboard has this feature, but only in the 360px layout (thats why it works on your Nexus S). In tablet layouts (600px, 768px) the number shortcuts are available in English, but not in other languages (e.g. German).
This is somewhere in the middle between a bug and sloppy design on Googles behalf.
4.2 Keyboard
Now if someone can fix the 4.2 Keyboard to work with long press for numbers I'd be really happy. Swype Keyboard sucks compared to the new 4.2 keyboard.
Bump... Seems I can't get the old fix to work... and I liked it so much! Definitely a fail on Google's behalf.
Found this after starting my own thread, sigh. I see that the stock keyboard in the CM Roms for the fire have this but not the Nexus 7. Is this because the two devices are on either side of the resolution threshold?

This is so disappointing. The keyboard is one of my most favorite things about my galaxy nexus. All inclusive, from the gesture typing to the long-press for numbers. To me, it's flawless. But now that I've got a Nexus 7, and I have to hit another button just to switch between alpha to numeric? It's like using an iphone! Disturbing!
So this is a bump. Seeking out other threads and solutions. I mean, I could install another keyboard, but.....no. The 4.2.x keyboard experience is just too fantastic without this flaw.

Don't know if this trick is known to everyone already but you can actually long press a key for a number. Just long press and hold the number key "?123" then slide through the number you like then let go and voila you have a number and you'll be back to letters again - similar to an iphone keyboard in a way
The MoDaCo ROM has a patched keyboard with the longpress enabled.

Did you know that you can create shortcut icons in the Multi Window panel that will automatically open paired windows of your choice?
If you didn't here's how.
Open the Multi Window panel on the left side of the screen, then open two apps that you use together. Now with both apps on your screen open the Multi Window panel again and look for the up arrow at the bottom of this panel and touch it. A little menu will open, select create. A box will then appear that let's you give it a custom name if you like.
More tips will follow and if you have a tip please feel free to add one.

You have to root it and install Wanam Xposed. That has a setting that lets you pick what apps you want to make available for multi-window.
Multiwindow Plus and Pen Window Manager will also do it, you have to be rooted for both though.
Xposed is easier, free and does lots of other awesome things
