So I got to play with a LG g2 for a couple of days. I have to say LG's remote app called quick remote is quite impressive. Hoping someone can come up with an app like that one for the remote.

I spent most of today trying out IR apps, and I eventually broke down and tried out some paid apps. I'm going to put my vote in for Smart IR Remote. (Forum won't let me link because my 6 year old lurking account is a "new user")
It's got tons more devices available, and has widget support. I made a page of my home screen a control panel for my house.
I think the $7 price they're asking is high, but since a remote for my InFocus projector would be $40 (INSANE), I suppose it's well worth the price.

No idea. Buy it, and if it doesn't work, get a refund.

^^^ this. Just looked and I think it is ten bucks. Might work with note 3. Might not.
The "Galaxy S4-HTC One Remote" app is the same one I'm talking about. It works perfectly with the Note 3.
Touchsquid wants $50 for the version of their app with widget support. That's insane.

Well - thank you Samsung.
MLB.tv updated the AtBat2011 app today to include live streaming on Android devices. Woohoo, right?
Well, not so much. Because Samsung has delayed the official FroYo release for the Epic, the Evo is the only Sprint Device that is supported for live video streaming. Of course, I'm sure my ACS FrozenROM could handle the requirements, but because the Epic isn't officially supported the video option doesn't even show up.
I doubt there are any tricks to spoof device ID, but if anybody has any ideas, that would be great.
Otherwise, I just have one more reason not to buy another Samsung device again. Or, more properly, one more reason to be upset about the FroYo release (or lack thereof).
Here's the link to the app: https://market.android.com/details?...android.gameday.atbat2011.full&feature=banner
I feel your pain on this one. I got the update this morning and was psyched about it. But I was quickly let down when I notice my Epic wouldn't work!!
Thanks for this update. I almost bought it yesterday, then I saw that MLB partnered up with Apple for a free month trial for iPhone users. Hoping for the same Android deal, I see that it's wrought with problems still and not ready for primetime.
The Nexus S is supported, so is there a way to spoof the Epic as a Nexus S? I thought I remember seeing somewhere that one of the ROMs was using a modified market using a Nexus S identifier. Could the same approach be used here?
LIVE GAMES!? GET THIS TO WORK, NOW!!!! I always loved getting the radio feeds but if I can get the actual games, I'd freak the hell out...
speaking of that...when i goto mlb.com on a winmo device..gameday doesnt drop down anymore???? i havent found a way for gameday to come up on the epic, if there is one. but i also would love to listen to the games, anyway to do this on the epic??
Yea, the MLB app. It's $14 but well worth it if you use it as much as I do. I'm dying for live stream of games.

If you can afford it, get Slingbox. They run from $150 to $250... The Solo (the lesser priced one- beware) has some issue with capacitors.. Anything that you can get on your TV can easily be forwarded to your device. I have an Epic, as well. Slingbox forwards me my MLB account (from Roku)... I also get Netflix, Hulu Plus, and lots of other stuff.. music YouTube, International News, etc. If I have a net connection, I can watch and listen to anything on my TV or Roku
To afford all this, I cut my Uverse account back to basic at $19 a month plus box rental. I was spending $90 a month prior to hooking up Roku and Slingbox. One time investment only for Slingbox and Roku. You will have to fork out the $29 for the Slingbox Mobile for Android app to accomplish this. It includes clever remote control codes to manipulate your TV and other hardware at home.
MLB looks fabulous on Roku this year. Last year, it was problematic. This year, great.
You'll be watching the World Series and all the playoff games without forking out any more money. It's a great way to go. Im saving a lot of money. I use it off and on when work is slow.. watch a couple innings, etc.. When we travel, I use it.. .I also use the Sling software on my laptop.

Great!!! Keep us updated.
Thought some of you interested in NFC might like to see some cool tags.
Thanks for that, I didn't know about the pro mode, good video!
I have a selection of tags and I've been testing them out with various ideas. I've decided that a good idea is to tag some of my items with a URL to a contact information page as a kind of identifier. All my stuff is registered with immobolise.com anyway so hopefully it would find it's way back to me.
Another useful tool I've found is Touchanote which links a tag to Evernote so that you can go straight to a particular note. I stuck the tag in my notebook on the back so that when I'm in a meeting and there's stuff to do, it will take me straight to my to-do list.
I also stuck one on the inside cover so that again when I'm in a meeting, I just pop my phone on top of it, and it will silence all sounds.
My biggest issue with them at the moment is the price. To get some really elegant task switching, I would need bigger capacity tags, and they are a lot more expensive than the readily available ntag203 types.
I know that I could use re-tag to repurpose existing tags with NFC, or use tasked, but there are some uses where I think it would be good to have some workflows which weren't specific to my phone alone.
thanxx

This video may help, show the scanning distance for NFC on Android devices, should be about the same across most handsets.
Awesome. So what are the chances I could make this work to change my phone profile? Say I put a sticker on the holster. Slide it in... it scans. will it continue to scan as I walk around? Or would it only scan again when I remove the phone? (scanning on insert and remove is what I want obviously)
I've managed to get the TV remote app to work on proper brand name TVs in my house (Samsung, Panasonic), but the TV in my room is a Sanyo. The app lists Sanyo as compatible, but none of the IR codes work on it
I was wondering if anyone knew of a different brand option that might work with the Sanyo TV. The HTC One TV remote has an IR learning option, where if you can't find your TV brand, you simply point the TV remote at the phone's IR sensor, long press the power button, and the app will learn the IR code. The GS4 app doesn't seem to have this option, and I can't find a way to get the remote app to work with my TV.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

the WatchOn app is a horrible bit of code.
In order to remove an accidentally added remote you have to clear all data in the program and start again.
On top of that they have only 1 or 2 codes for each TV brand, it is really sad how little work went into the program.
Also the GS4 has a IR transmitter, but not a receiver so we could not do a learning setup if we wanted to.
I am looking for a new program which can take advantage of the IR LED but so far have not come up with anything.
There is touchsquid which is not cheap but appears to be probably the most fully featured such program available. Or at least that I can find lol There is also this one which I just ran into yesterday buy haven't had time to peruse yet. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5yZW1vdGVmYWlyeSJd The main problem I have with the latter is that I couldn't find any information on whether they will let you run it for a bit to see how it works. As those who have tried to set up more complex systems with good automation know it can take a while to find the flaws and just to flat get everything working. I would want at least a 10 day trial to make a decision.
I mean is it so hard to implement learning function so that you can take any ir remote and copy its codes to phone!? I've had my Casio wrist watch for more than 14 years now and it has ir functionality and, more importantly, learning function so I can literary control anything that has an ir remote.

Care to explain then how to remove a single device, as I walked through every single menu and there is no way of doing it from within the Samsung supplied app that I could see.
And having been a user of android devices since inception I would state that even if it is possible it is far from intuitive.

If I was going to try and do an equivalent to the Logitech Harmony than this app is going to be your best bet imo:
Touchsquid Pro
Has full S4 support. It will do way more than any other remote app and let you set up macros, complex switching, and customizable layout. They offer a low priced trial as well to test it out.
I thought ten dollars was expensive for an app, but fifty?! I've seen more expensive stuff in the app store when I had an iPhone. I might have seen GPS programs that were more expensive on the android side. Still, I don't want the app bad enough to pay fifty bucks for it.

You have to put it in perspective. If you have a tablet with IR and pay the $50 for the app it will turn that tablet into a remote that normally you would have to pay $200 - $500 for, maybe more. I paid $149 for my refurbed Harmony One remote and the app paired with a compatible device will do more. Only thing it would be lacking is RF capability.
And it can't learn on s4's because they don't have an ir receiver.
I'm loving the $10 app. It saves every device you set up and allows you to build custom composite remotes using pieces from multiple devices. It has macros but I have yet to try it.
As far as i am concerned just the wow factor of being able to change the channel in a bar while a isheep scratches his head makes it all worth it

It is possible that developer can use front/rear camera to read IR remote and it can be learn. Look this app name 'Tester IR Remote Control"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.inforbit.remotecontrol
Someone will figure it out to put that feature in IR app.
Edited:
Learned that use your camera into negative effect, then you will see infrared light.
I don't know about this phone but most cameras have ir filters on the lens. I might be wrong but I highly doubt a camera could be used instead of an ir receiver. Cameras are set up to be used in the visual light spectrum, not above or below the frequency spectrum.
Interesting Android smartwatch here. It can actually be used as a standalone phone, bands are GSM/GPRS Quad Band:GSM 850/900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHZ (can this be used on AT&T?).
What I'm not seeing is if it can be used as a dialer for your phone, so you can just leave it in your pocket and make and receive calls like the Gear.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to get it just to play around with.

Doing some further reading, yes you can initiate a call to your phone with it, woot! It also has music over bluetooth and local storage. It looks like it has no speaker/mic so you have to use a headset with it, boo, but that's ok.

D'oh. I missed it, I went straight down to the pictures. Either that or the page didn't load completely the first time. Either way, thank you!
That's not a bad price point at all... maybe a mini server or media player...
Feature phone software, bleh.
Although I guess for 100 bucks you can't expect it to run Android.
Edit: Hmm, just noticed no where does it say there's a speaker built in...guess you have to use a headset to use it as a phone.
Also only compatible with Android 2.3-4.0. Doesn't say it works with newer.

Strange, I was also surprised by that 4.0 rather then 4.x reference. And I think you are right about headphone 3.5mm jack as the only way to listen to the music. Would have been great if they would include a camera in there.
Is it ok to say that it looks kinda...ugly?
Or is it just me?

Good Lord. I'm off tonight. I thought it RAN android. In this case, I'd say the price point may be a little high.

Haha, first thing that crossed my mind when i saw it.
Dunno why but personally i find most smart watches just tend to look either dull, or just plain awful. Maybe it's because of the space they have to work with? Dunno :/
You guys realize it's a phone? It might be nice to have as a backup phone, or if I just want a tiny phone. It doesn't run apps, but I never had much use for apps on a 1.5" screen.
It's interesting, I may grab one just to play around with. It seems to have AT&T bands. I don't plan on using it like a watch though, it's too ugly like that. I'd just stick it in my pocket or clip it on.

We're fully aware. It's just between recent offerings like the Omate Truesmart and previous offerings like every chinese watch phone out there, this one seems like too little too late to really make sense right now.
If you want a cheap feature-phone watch check out what's available to get a style you like. This one is pretty big and ugly for what it does.

Thanks, do you have any links to any watch phones that work with AT&T like this one does? I did a google search and didn't find much, Chinese tech seems kind of hard to find on the internet.

I sort of want the microphone... it's a super tiny phone that was on indiegogo for like $50 when it launched. GPS enabled for a bit more, I think.

So I got one and got to say this thing is a perfect companion for a phone at work. Built in mic allows you to answer on your wrist and be like I'll call you back it also has Bluetooth audio out and wireless headset support. Weird thing is contacts and messages won't work without a sim has to have one active or not I'm on Verizon so its pointless to try lucky I had art laying around and it vibrates!! This thing is sweet to be cheap!!!

From the watch description:
Smart Sync Function: Can sync with smart phone, downloading phonebook and call history (iOS 4.0+ and Android 2.3+) to the device. When using Android 2.3+ OS, download and install the WiMe NanoSmart APK on the Android device and the NanoSmart will sync with the Android device (Google calendar events, new Gmail notification, call history, phonebook, sent/received SMS).
Have you tried to install WiMe NanoSmart?
I'm on 4.3 AOKP linario I can't say its bougus but the contacts sync but....... With out each and every number having the country code in it it refuses to call or message weird right? Gmail hasn't worked or calendar. I refuse to downgrade for it. I use this to get away with texting and calling at work via mini Bluetooth headset and a beanie lol.
