Visible time lag between touch and screen brightness? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else noticed visible lag (~2-4s) say:
- after you unlock the screen (assuming the phone was not used for 5-10 minutes)
- and the screen comes up with low brightness
- till the screen returns to brightness (say when it is set to auto).
The lag is between the 2nd and 3rd step
Or another lag of (~1-1.5s), when you touch the screen, when it is been:
- a dim screen (when one has stopped using it for sometime, but not off yet and the brightness goes down),
and then you touch... till it attains:
- the normal brightness that the screen is supposed to be (say when set of auto).
I have noticed both behaviors like 8-10 times during last one day.

The native auto brightness algorithm and control really sucks. I use Velis auto brightness app from the market. Way much better.

screen / image burn imprint

hi , Does anyone know how resilient HD2 screens are to image burn in.
Is there a way to have the backlight go off rather than dimmed after a time on non use without disabling the auto screen brightness on normal use. I want to have the HD2 working (gps app) 24/7, and have had to untick switch off after a certain period of activity to keep it from switching off, but I cant find an option or hack to have the backlight off but the unit still operative other than to disable the auto brightness which I like and then manually turn it down. Its automatic dimming still leaves it unnecessarily bright with no one looking at it and I did think about image burn with extended periods even at 30 percent brightness. Thx folks.

Auto Backlight level

I have noticed that the Automatic control for the backlight on the HD2 works very well. I have never feel like the phone is too dim and only in the darkest rooms do I find it to be a little too bright.
The Auto backlight does not seem to have the ability to get down the the lowest backlight level of the HD2 screen. If I turn off the auto function the screen can get to that "barely on" setting, but on auto the lowest is seems to go is to around 30%, which can be bright in the car at night or reading in bed.
Is there a way to make it so that the automatic backlight control can go all the way to the lowest setting when appropriate?
Have you looked into using 'lumos'? You can find it in the HD2 apps forum section.
I used it before and it should work for you to get the lowest backlight. I stopped using it since I figure 30% is good enough for me in most situations. During my commute, the light sensor gets hit too much and the backlights changes too often so I just turned it off. (I think it may also save me some power as well.)
If I'm reading in the dark I manually set it to 10% and in the morning I set it back to 30%. It's not too often that I will read in the dark so it's not a major issue for me.
I guess along the same lines, is there some app or widget that can be called from the home-screen icons that can control brightness on the fly?
Sense's brightness control is hidden behind far too many presses to make it comfortable to switch quickly. It's a bit annoying when I'm checking my e-mail at work walking under a set of lights, the screen will dim, then brighten, then dim, then... every two steps. Jumping to the menu to change the settings is too cumbersome, something along the lines of two clicks would be much better.
use Lumos
I had the same problem, Lumos works very well in the HD2.

Auto brightness only brightens, never dims

I noticed that the brightness only brightens but never dims back in automatic brightness display setting. I can reproduce this easy with turning the lamp on my desk on and off. It only goes back to the lower brightness if turning the screen off and on again.
Noticed this too but seems to only occur when I use a widget to toggle between Auto and 100%.
If I leave the setting in Auto from within settings then it seems to work. Brightness widgets seem to break the auto functionality.
Hmm, I don't use a brightness widget. The light of the softbuttons go on if I cover the light sensor, but the screens stays in high brightness.

Must be an all around bug then. If you turn the Atrix off and back on then the auto brightness functionality is restored.

This must be an Android thing. My Atrix does the same thing, as did the Nexus One I had before. I've had several (high end) Nokia's that dimmed/brightened perfectly. After 5 seconds, they would brighten (or dim) accordingly. I was hoping Motorola was better at making phones than HTC (the KING of bad battery life). We ALL lose here. Our precious battery life is being drained by the poor execution of a simple function.
This is a stock android thing (problem). Custom ROMs can allow it to dim and change brightness smoothly rather than in discrete steps (Cyanogen).
That's what I thought. I found this free app called "esdimmer". It supposed to be for Galaxy phones, but it's somewhat working on my Atrix. Does this function work any better in Gingerbread?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Well it's good to hear that it's a stock android problem and not the actual phone. I did find a way to get around this problem but it's very limited. You can get the screen to dim by first putting the phone into standby and then press the standby button once again (which gets you into the lock screen). You'll notice that the screen then dims (if coming from a well lit area/room to a darker one).

Alliance rom screen dimming issue

Running the Alliance rom, clean install on stock slot. No other major issues that I can think of. I've got it set to maximum brightness, not on auto dimmer. When the screen dims after 30 seconds or so, when its about to turn off due to inactivity, half the time when I tap the screen, it recovers to full brightness. The other half the time, it gets a little brighter than the dim mode, but not much. It stays way dimmer than the full brightness setting that I keep it on. I have to pull the notification bar down, slide the dimmer down, and back up to maximum, and I'm good to go until the next time it does it. Which could be in 30 seconds when it dims again.
Anybody else having this issue?

I have the same thing happening. Personally I have been too lazy about it to check through settings to see if I've done something. I'll check on it and see if I can find a fix.
*Update*
I've checked through all my settings and can find nothing that might cause it. I don't have Auto Brightness set, nor do I have Auto Adjust Screen Tone turned on. I saw nothing in the Alliance Settings either. I believe it is a system setting that is probably buried in code somewhere (far beyond my knowledge).
**Update** I reported the bug in the Alliance Forum.
I tend to agree. I've looked through settings, etc. just as you have, to no avail. I'm nearly certain it's done it since install, so I don't think it's something that I've changed. But I could be wrong. I've also tried it with auto adjust turned on, does the same thing. Auto adjusts to a dimmer setting sometimes

[Q] Brightness does not come back to full

Since I got this phone, I see this happening.
If I touch the screen immediately as the phone becomes dark after 30 secs of no interaction, the brightness increases but not to the full level.
This happens when auto and preset brightness.
Returns to full brightness if I tinker the brightness setting - eg. If I turn auto brightness on then off.
Anyone knows what's going on?
Do you have any xposed modules installed?
Sounds like 2 or more modules/apps are having a punch up
