I thought this was fixed on the GS4 with a software update... Why is it here on my note 3? It just started out of no where. Confirmed by sliding from left to right on the Reddit for fun app using the dark theme
You can't fix it by software, its a display issue. Pixels dont turn on that fast.
Same here that happened to my not3 yesterday

Same for mine but noticeable to me only at minimum brightness in a totally dark room.

Sure you can.. Download screen adjuster and set contrast to -10..
Then black colors change to very dark grey.. smearing is gone

HI, has anyone noticed a pinkish shade towards the bottom of the screen? didnt notice it at first but when i looked at my keyboard, it looked slightly violet. i installed a screen test and on a white background, a light pink/violet shade is visible on the screen. does it need to "break in" or is it a defect?
I think your screen might be damaged.
My phone also has a slight pink tint towards the bottom of the screen and the annoying thing is that the tint also blacks out near-black colours. The weird thing is that I have never had tint problems with original phones yet always with replacement phones.
Pink tint on the phone is a screen defect.
Take it back for replacement

Its seems like the issue known as "Screen Smearing"...
Try Smear Fix or Screen Adjuster from the Play Store... Hope it fixes it...
However a more solid way of correcting the issue is thru a procedure known as "Screen Calibration" but that can only be done thru a Custom Kernel which supports it.... I prefer Perseus Kernel for that....
Good luck!!!

Pink tint is not the purple smearing, it's totally different.

I have a yellow tint all over the screen is it fixable via screen calibration?

Hi. I got my SGS4 a couple of days back. Initially, didn't have any trouble at all (mostly because I had been using it on max brightness). But now I am facing an issue I had been horrendously tormented by in the past. The grey gradients have a purple tint and the greys blurr on scrolling (esp on black background). No solution or cause of the problem is apparent to me.
I used to have a Nokia C7 back in 2011 and it used to do exactly the same. This is most evident when you have lowered the brightness. The dividers in the settings blurr & turn purplish on scrolling. Watching dark scenes in a video also shows some purple/pink smudges.
Is anyone else having this problem? Or is it just me? Is it present in all the phones or just some or maybe just mine?

Well all Samsung amoled screens have some issues like earlier note 2 having yellow tint
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I know AMOELDs do have a tint. But the blurring & smudges in videos is totally unacceptable. Is there a solution to this? Like some hue/gamma correction app? Or some color calibration for such screens?
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
Try some different kerner if there is one for S4 to calibrate colors..

In some angle u will get pink or purple tint and it s not problem
It s normal to have different experience in different angles
I had pink tint on s3 from low angle on side
Just thr s no big tint in IPS screen

Has anyone, as of yet, had any luck with a different kernel?

Anybody got this? In low brightness some darker elements(specially gray) start become a little purplish
Also the colors seem less saturated in the default screen mode than the s3(also in standard) i thought i would be the opposite, is my screen defective or is this normal
I tried google but all i get are galaxy nexus results(purple tint)

Welcome to S4. Every galaxy S4 has this. Please refer to other threads on how to get rid of this smearing through software.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
The OP doesn't mention smearing.
This is a different issue to the smearing problem.
When the brightness is on low greys become purple. I have had 4 different S4s (all had to be replaced due to screen issues) and every single one had this problem on low brightness.
IMO there is no such thing as a perfect S4 screen!
I have finally settled on my 4th replacement and this one is still not great but I'm sick of returning them.
I have a pink tint at the top of this screen and also all the sensors, LED and front camera are misaligned in the casing, All over to the left.
Samsung have REALLY failed on the Quality Control of this device.
So it seems universal, well i will have to turn off auto brightness and use brightness at 30%
Any of u guys came from the s3? Do the s4 colors seem a little less saturated to u guys? I have them both side by side and it seems so

Yes. I had s3 before and the less saturation on S4 is intentional by Samsung. According to some detailed comparison, the colors of s4 are more accurate. It seems odd at first because our eyes are used to the oversatured screen of s3.

Thinking of buying the Note 3 but really wanna know how bad the smearing issue is cause i bought the Galaxy s4 on launch day and couldn't live with the smearing issue ( my girlfriend also bought a Galaxy s4 on launch day and still has it..she didn't think the smearing was annoying..i hated it )
Could someone with a Note 3 try both things explained below on low brightness
1. Download zedge and search for black wallpapers..then while scrolling thru the wallpapers..do you so smearing..purple glow on the grey background in zedge between the wallpapers?
2. Choose a black wallpaper as background and install nova launcher...then on the homescreen set a widget with some grey in it like the stock music player widget and scroll between the homescreens...and also with some icons on the homescreens?
On the Galaxy s4 doing the above there was a lot of smearing..purple glow visible even after the fix from samsung cause they only fixt it in the samsung framework

I tested Zedge.. Yes there is smearing.
But when you uncheck Auto Brightness Smearing is much much better.
Auto Mode is very dark. In a dark room it gets darker again..I recommend manual Brightness 30 - 50%. Then its really fine.

The purple smearing effect is probably just because the greys blur when moving and they appear purple. Entirely normal and probably same on all phones.

Jep. Black = Pixels are off
When you Scroll the Pixels need Time to activate. Thats the Price for real Black

^^ Ditto, I don't find it annoying, I didn't even know about it until the OP mentioned it.
Ive seen it in Tapatalk 2 with blue dark theme..
Black background and gray Text..The complete Text smeared..
Now i use the classic dark theme (dark grey background) and all is fine
Dont think about Smearing.. i think you will just see it in darker rooms.
Thanks a lot guys...you saved me 750 bucks, some people don't find it that big of a issue like my girlfriend who still has the Galaxy s4...for me it is an issue cause i like to have a black background and while using a black background with nova launcher..on my Galaxy s4 the smearing issue was visible on the icons switching thru the homescreens..don't want that on my next phone

Had the Note 2 and there the smearing was not present cause while displaying black the lights where still active. Bought the Galaxy s4 on launch day and that was the first time i had the smearing issue cause when displaying black the amoled screen is really off so when switching to another color like grey the lights need to become active witch creates the smearing. Sold the Galaxy s4 and bought the htc One that has no smearing but wanted a larger screen so bought a Note 2 again witch has no smearing issues cause the screen doesn't turn of like the Galaxy s4 when displaying black and hoped the Note 3 wouldn't have it but seems it does unfortunatly

OR you could've installed one simple app that would've fixed your smearing issue on your S4. Your blacks will not turn off completely and will remove smearing 100%.

No problem though cause after the galaxy s1..s2..s3..s4 and note 1 and 2 it's time to give someone else a try

Hello
I noticed that the white color became so yellowish. Is that a normal thing?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
yes ,common phenomenon of OLED screens , blue pixels fade faster than green pixels than red , so the best way to keep the screen healthy is that using a proper brightness level
That's a little fast to happen though, not even a year yet. Maybe you are on Basic color setting? Basic is more yellowish than AMOLED photo/cinema and adaptive settings.
