Hotspot Widget Problem - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I must have tried at least 10 different widgets, but I cannot find that one that works completely. I am using a rooted G2 (4.2.2) with mobile hotspot via the method posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338
All the widgets I've tried cannot turn the hotspot on and off. SOME have been able to turn it off once I've already turned it on by going into the "Mobile Hotspot" app, but I none have been completely functional.
Is there something I'm missing?

Wifi Not Working Correctly?

I tried searching and I have not found a solution yet. I'm running SHOstock-I with ktoonz kernel on android 4.4.2.
For some reason, my Wifi randomly disconnects from any currently connected wifi network. The first thing I try to do is to connect back to the wifi network (any available network), but it simply tries and says "Connection Failed". Next, I try to disable the wifi connectivity alltogether, but after I tap the toggle button it becomes "greyed-out" and I can't toggle it.. it just hangs. If I go back a step and then select wifi again, then I can try to disable it but the same thing just happens again.
If I reboot, then wifi works again.
Oddly enough, if I enable/disable teathering, then wifi starts to work again.
It seems I can't run Wifi for more than an hour without this issue happening. It seems to have just started doing this out of the blue. I suspect a full wipe would solve the issue but I'd rather not do that unless I have to. It usually takes me a while to get things back to normal after a wipe.
Any ideas?
Some solved the problem by unInstalling the Smart Wifi utility (for ATT and maybe other carriers too).

Thanks, but I don't have that app installed. I am positive this is not a router issue as well.
Everytime I wipe cache/delvik then the issue doesn't occur for a few days, which I think is odd. I also tried different kernels and the problem persisted.
Does anyone know if it's possible to confirm if this is a hardware issue? I doubt it...

It is a good idea to turn off any 'connection optimizer' or 'wifi optimizer' application or setting, in short anything that decides what connection is selected based on available connections should be turned off. The most probable reason for the problem is badly programmed software.

Galaxy S5 cannot enable Wi-Fi

Hi there.
I have the international version of Galaxy S5 (GM-900F) and yesterday I was trying to recover all saved Wi-Fi passwords on my phone. I installed couple of apps from the Google Play Store and uninstalled them all as they didn't work. Since then I cannot enable Wi-Fi. When I tap on the Wi-Fi icon nothing happens it just stays turned off. 4g is fine, but when I enable personal hotspot I get a notification that Wi-Fi will have to be turned off before the hotpot can be enabled. The thing is Wi-Fi is turned off and I still get the same notification.
My phone is rooted but I never had that problem. I flashed the firmware again as I thought the apps messed up some settings, but that didn't help. I dropped the phone couple of times, can the antenna inside break?
Is there anything else I can try before doing a factory reset?

Mobile hotspot does not work?

I update to the the latest firmware ( G935VVRS4APH1) and now my mobile hotspot does not work. I am not rooted or anything. I turn it on, it says checking subscription status, then says turning off mobile hotspot right away. Any ideas?
Have you subscribed to mobile hotspot?
I use FoxFi to use the hotspot app for free.
I'm pretty sure it's included - it only stopped working after the firmware update. I'll call Verizon if they have any ideas. I could reformat but I'd really rather not.

They will probably ask you to reset. I'm guessing you don't have unlimited data, they make me pay to use the hot spot.

I'm having this issue as well after upgrading to the latest firmware. When I enable the hotspot, I get the same "checking subscription status" message, it turns off my wi-fi, then turns off the hotspot and gives me the "turning off hotspot" message. It also does NOT turn my wi-fi back on; I have to do that manually and sometimes multiple times to get it active.
I spent a while on the phone with Verizon yesterday trying to get it fixed, and in the end was told to do a full factory reset. I did that and had the hotspot working briefly, but then it stopped again. I sure hope there's another option for fixing this besides a full factory reset. It's painful reconfiguring my phone back to the way I like it.

Well, believe it or not I think I've found the culprit. By default, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled for scanning for nearby devices. On my phone, with Wi-Fi turned off, I could see the Wi-Fi icon flicker briefly each time a scan was performed, and I had a suspicion that it was triggering the hotspot to shut down. In the System Settings menu, when you select the "Wi-Fi" option, there's a link below the on/off switch that takes you to a menu where you can selectively enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for nearby scanning. When I disabled Wi-Fi, my hotspot feature started working properly and even automatically re-enabled Wi-Fi when I turned off the hotspot.
I can no longer get to the menu to re-enable Wi-Fi scanning, unfortunately, so I can't truly verify that it's the cause of the issue. But my phone is working normally now, so I'm happy.
EDIT: I've now spent a couple of hours with both Samsung and Verizon attempting to get them to reproduce the issue I'm having with the inability to get back to the menu where you can discretely control wi-fi and bluetooth scanning and they are apparently unequipped to do so. How these folks can support this phone without having one available to test with is beyond me. Well, actually, they're not doing a very good job supporting it, so I guess that just proves my point.
Your the man! It fix my phone. This is after I spent a useless hour on the phone with Verizon and they had me do a factory restore, which of course, did not fix it. Disabling WiFi scanning did it.

[Q] Mobile Hotspot only allows connections after I unlock phone

I've been using Tasker to turn on mobile hotspot automatically when I connect to my car's Bluetooth, so my headunit in the car can use the internet. Mobile Hotspot gets turned on fine, but nothing can connect to the hotspot until I unlock my S8. I will get "authentication errors" on anything I try to connect to the hotspot until the phone has been unlocked.
I can relock the phone afterwards and it still works, but it's obviously a pain having to take my phone out and unlock it every time (and kinda defeats the purpose of having Tasker turn the hotspot on). Is there some way around this?
I should add, this only seems to be a problem recently, since Oreo. Previously it worked without issue.
Go to settings - lock screen and security - secure lock settings - and uncheck the lock network and security. Should work, but I cannot test it since my phone is rooted. Good Luck

WiFi Connectivity issues in Ad based networks

On days, I hav tried to connect to WIFI network of Moscow Metro Stations. I tried it before and everything works. But suddenly I started to have issues while connecting. I can't find out the reason. I tried to reset all, hardware format, restore with factory images nothing works. I contacted to support of the WIFI, they say that there's something in phone that switch to mobile data instead of wifi as for Accessing to wifi, it redirects to page where I need to view some adds. I looked at wifi preferernces and turned off Smart WiFi Switcher. I tried to turn mobile radio off, airplane mod nothing works. What to do to get WiFi work in this situations ?
