[Q] screen problem or even worst? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i'm having a huge problem with my nexus 4
Yesterday i raged whislt playing soccer and in rage i slammed my pants on the bench. With all my luck, the phone ( has cover ) had to be just under and my belt slammed bulls-eyes in the middle of the phone screen. The screen did not shatter. i looked at the damage and i saw vertical stripes(not physical damage) aroUnd the middle of the phone (about where my belt really had impact). soon after, the phone screen strated to act like old tv screen ( gets kinds off blurry) and now when i open the phone the stripes are still there ( the old tv effect too ofc) but the color of the screen intensifies towards black and slowly fades to pitch black. Ive sent to myself screenshot of the phone to my email and its perfect so can't be a system error. So i ask, is it the screen that is broken and should be replaced. Is is a composent of the phone that is damaged and its idk cant transmit the information. Or is my phone simply done.
extra: every time i open now, the phone randomly rages and it start activiting touches on the screen for like 6 sec in a row. So if im a text things il like zoom in and out click things and write stuff like " oiwdqsaPIFUWEOPFNiofvpsdhirfWE;" happens once when i turn on the screen and redoes it every time i open it again

Next time you rage, buy tempered glass screen protector for your phone, then you can throw it without breaking the screen. Also try herbal tea.
Now about the screen, I'm not really clear from what you said maybe posting photos of it would be easier. If the actual LCD under the digitizer is broken then you need a whole new screen assembly, they usually go for a little more than $100 on ebay. Should be easily to replace, you just need a T5 torque screwdriver to open the phone.
If the digitizer is broken only, then also buy a new screen assembly, because its a pain in the arse to replace it with this device. But there are instructions on youtube to replace just the digitizer if you want to attempt.

LCD assembly are $140 shipped on eBay. OEM brand new

update i attached photos of my phone. Hopefully it will mean more then the txt i wrote

I would take it apart to check for loose connections before spending any money. If you are not comfortable taking it apart, send it out for repair.

Hi
I dropped my Spanish Z on the floor.
The screen stayed black and is 2 mini stripes below passing some light ..
It seems that the phone works, but the inside screen is ****ed ..

I bought this screen with tools

by $ 33 = 25 €
I found this video of disassembly that looks good.

What gets to 4.36, the plastic strip-paste, not remain a fudge to put it back? It does not stick well ... I hope that after the installation is easy.

Looks like your screen is cracked on your Spanish Z. I heard the Canadian Z is a bit tougher. I replaced the screen on my American Z and it wasn't that hard.

Check out Ebay for the parts.
Hello, in the end I did yesterday before going to classe, using the video above and others.
The dismantling was relatively easy, quickie, assembly cost me more.
I do not know but I did not find a screw, which puts on that second on the left. 6.25s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UtNU8n0MKI
I put a similar one I had at home ...
That part of the rectangular black rubber, I was not perfect fits in the corner of the screen, there is a tab but I have something separate.
I put the battery and would not turn on, and connect came on a LED is amber and it was he was carrying that had nothing to battery.
I noticed the screen flicker when you touch or press the edges of the screen / phone. It's like if you increase the intensity of light.
The display properly reacts to the pressure of the fingers, sliding screen keyboard ...
Bring Android 2.2.1 and update to 2.3.3, the operator is Vodafone ES, and the screen continue causing problems.
What can happen? The screen? I open it?
I made a video:
Well I'm back to open the Z and I've broken the screen.
I get those lines and a black spot. 25 euros lost.
I hope it's only the screen and the digitizer.
Hello
Then on Sunday I put another screen, cost me about 20 € on ebay.
I hardly remember to disassemble, open and half tapeworm and watch videos on Youtube.
and if this does not make those flashes and the screen seems to respond correctly, the buttons, the different zones.
Indeed I even leftover screw not put it where. :cyclops:
Now I'm a little pissed because I feel as if estubieran blurry photos I do desmontaré the back cover and purged optics.
That black strip if it has been a bit loose, but hey I'll leave it like that, but if you could put glue dismount other day.
The springs are strong hinge, so far do not yield.
Vodafone leads the firm is not free and updated when I put the new screen the first time.

There's this quite professionally done disassembly video that's much more detailed, worth to take a look if you want to fix it yourself:

Year ago I had the same problem. Hit G2 the table.. The screen was black too.
Repaired phone in service.. it costs me about $120.. expensive enough, eh!?

Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 - Extra Screen Replacement Information

My Ex droped her Phone and it had Spider Webs all accross. Her Provider send it in to see what it would cost to fix. The Phone also would stop working correctly in the middle of calls.
It turns out buying a new one would have come cheaper atleast thats what came back as a answear.
So I decided to bite the apple and try replacing the Screen myself. My Ex was not happy because she thought with the second Problem it is not worth the effort to fix the Screen and maybe loose everything. My reasoning was that when the Spider Web Screen touches the Digitizer it will react strangely. So I went ahead and searched the web on how to do it. I ordered a Screen for $9 on ebay (free shipping) which came with a couple of Tools. More on those later.
One of the first Problems I found was that all instructions that I found showed the beginning and the end. But in the middle how the phone will look like when the glass is finaly taken off, I was unable to find much Information about it. Also doing it Redneck style without Special liquids and or a heat guns was no where to be found.
I decided to just try it. Disasembly is well documented and easy enough to do on this device. Atleast to the Point where most electronics are removed so that you can apply heat without too much problems. I decided on using a blow dryer to heat up the Display. I layed the Blow Dryer on the Counter turned it on and Held the phone up to it. Thinking if my fingers get too hot chances are it is too hot for the Display too.. Might be a little incaccurate to read the temperature like that but hey it worked. But soon after I started to remove the first pieces of broken glass I ran into Problems.
As per instructions I found, I put a Piece of tape accros the Screen so that the individuall pieces stayed ogether. That did not work at all for me. It just made the individual pieces push against the valuable digitizer below it. My next Problem was that the Tools that came with the replacement glass, especially the Little plastic Tools did not hold up to the Job und the tip was soon useless. I had to Switch to a Raizor blade. A couple of times I sliped and hit the Digitizer. Thinking oh well I guess I Need to get a new one. Luckely on the end it all worked out much better then I would have hoped. The left over glue I rubbed mostly off with my finger which worked out nicely. To clean it completely from ist glue took some time. The black rubber allong the side of the phone allso suffered. You might want to look out that that does not get riped out completely. I had enough left over so that the glass would sit on it good enough luckely.
Take a look at these Pictures and remember it works perfectly again for $9. While it is not for everyone to seperate a Glass from a Digitizer it is acctualy less fragile as you might think. The third Picture Shows you how it looked with all the scuff marks from taking off the glass. You can still see a few little marks on the end but hard to notice and much better then before. I am sure next time I will be more carefull and use the blade from the beginning on.
I got more Pictures and will improve this Thread for others that have to go through it. Feel free to PM me if you have any Questions. A list of other resources will also be included. This is only to explain and Show the bare state.

You should be able to find a new Frame for a resonable Price. Now to remove the digitizer from the Frame that is another Story. Not sure if it was the Glue or what Held it in place but I could not figure out how to get that out. luckely the two Buttons at the bottom survived the Screen removal and so I did not hat to take the Digitizer out.
Useful information and explains why repair shops will usually only replace the complete assembly. Read many complaints that those cheap ebay screens are plastic and easily scratched, not genuine gorilla glass replacements?

It is definetly cheaper then the original but if you have done it once. Chances are You will be able to do it again much easier. So if the $9 Glass only holds for example a Year. You can just replace it again. Or spend a little more for a original replacement glass.
Now I should Point out if the rubber seal around it gets damaged in the process and if the 3M Tape that should come with the Screen is placed wrong it will Impact the sensitivity of the sreen touches. I guess I did it right because my Ex is happy how it performs and that is saying allot.

If you get down to removing the digitizer from the Frame take a couple of Pictures and post them here.

[Q] Screen troubles

So here it goes. I've had nothing but issues with screens on the G2. My first G2 had the glass separating from the frame during the first few weeks that I had it, then it decided to go into a boot loop randomly and Sprint replaced it.
My second G2 initially was fine but then of course the glass started separating after a few months from the frame and I just ignored it. About 8 months later I dropped and and cracked the digitizer, luckily I had synced my bluetooth keyboard/mouse to it and was able to back everything up.
I then ordered a LCD/Digitizer/Frame assembly. I installed it and noticed the frame and the glass were separating and I could see the back light like my other screens, this one also had some white spots and looked like pressure damage. The seller tells me that they accidentally sent me a defective screen (a "return") so they send me another one, which I notice has the glass already separating from the frame, at this point I don't really care anymore and just deal with the one I have already and leave the "new" one on the shelf.
About 6 months later a portion of the screen stops responding and sometimes will go crazy clicking and swiping everything. So I decide to order some 3M 3mm tape to properly adhere the glass to the frame of the "new" one I have on the shelf. I followed a guide and it all seemed to go smoothly, I let it dry for a week to make sure it won't start separating like the others. I tried installing it and while it looks great, the phone runs super slow, and touches respond after about 20 seconds. I unplugged the digitizer connections and it still runs super slow with my bluetooth keyboard/mouse. I plugged back in the connections and went into recovery and noticed it was just clicking everything and going crazy. I also noticed I couldn't power the screen off, I had to hold the power button down until the phone shut off.
I ended up putting my old screen back in and it works fine, other than the small portion of the screen that is unresponsive.
Any ideas? I feel just ordering a brand new phone, but I'm pretty sure it'll just have the same issue after a few months ..

What are you doing with it so that the glass separates from the frame? do you use a cover? could you post some pictures?

Nothing crazy. I use it and am typically pretty careful. I had my Epic 4g for 3 years and never had any issues with it.
First one did not have a case, I have had a case for the second one and it took longer to develop the issue.
It seems to be a pretty common issue due to the bezel being so small.

OP2 Display damage after heavy rain

Dear xda,
while being on holiday in South-East Asia, I got into some pretty heavy rain and my OnePlus 2 obviously didn't like the rain - the display seems to be broken since. Unfortunately I tried switching the phone on shortly after the water contact (because I needed it for navigation) and the display worked just fine while the phone seemed to be stuck software-wise (although now from a retrospective point of view it could have been that already then the display was somehow having issues).
I did put it in dry, uncooked rice just a few hours after the water contact and kept it there for a few days, with the SIM-Tray ejected and the back cover taken off. Still, after a few days, I tried switching it on again and I could notice that is was booting up just fine (I could see the capacitative buttons lighting up and even got some notification sounds after it booted up), but the display remained black
Back home I removed not only the SIM-Tray and the back cover but also the "inside cover" as well as the battery (it then looked like THIS) and put the phone back into rice for another 2 days. After that I reassambled the phone and tried switching it on again - still the display wasn't working.
After disassembling the phone again and taking the battery out, I put the remaining parts of the phone into the oven at about 45°C = 113°F for about 2h. But that didn't help either.
Is there any advice as how to maybe get my display working again? Maybe some cable or connection inside the phone that I could inspect or disconnect and reconnect? The process of buying a display on eBay and replacing the display seems to be rather complicated (due to the fact that the display is glued to the frame as from what I could see on ifixit.com) and I don't want to damage more than I already did while maybe the repair attempt doesn't help at all.
Does anyone have any experience/insight regarding how much it would cost me to open a repair ticket with OnePlus and let them repair/replace my display unit?
Guess it would cost around 200USD since the display is one of the costliest components in the phone. Not sure if it's only the display issue though. The water might have done some serious damage to the board itself.

I too considered buying a replacement screen on ebay or aliexpress. But I don't think I feel confident enough to take the necessary steps to replace the screen, because you seem to have to "unglue" the old screen and glue the new screen back on the frame (Sources: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/OnePlus+2+Screen+Replacement/51922#s115570 and https://youtu.be/Q1b5Ut5kTRM?t=4m).
Is it easier to do than I think? Did you face any issues while replacing it? Can you see or feel a difference with the new screen compared to the original one (i.e. does it perfectly fit into the frame without protruding)?

It was pretty straight forward and simple. I just applied heat to screen using a hairdryer and the used the included suction cup to gently loosed the screen from the adhesive using a credit hard to pry away the glue and then removed the connections to the screen and the touch-buttons and home button from the backside and then removed the screen. Then I moved over the home button and touch buttons to the new screen, applied some 3M adhesive strips on the frame after removing the old adhesive, put the screen back in place and reconnected the collectors, pushed the screen in place in the frame and heated it a bit too make sure the adhesive sticks and then screwed everything back in there and put on the back case. Done and done!
Ok I think I am gonny try tro buy a screen on aliexpress and replace it myself. Do you think this one should do?
well maybe you guys can help me out here i did the steps to replace the fingerprint sensor but now my screen wont stay glued , i have not been able to find the glue for the screen anyone can help with that by any chance ?

LG V20 screen replacement!!!!!

Hey guys. I recently broke my LG V20 (AT&T varient.) It is just the top screen and not tbe LCD Digitizer. The 2nd screen is completly fine and its the main screen that's broken. Does anybody know a good tutorial and a good source to get tbe part ASAP?
Thanks in advanced.

As someone else said,youtube.
In the amount of time waiting for a reply, you could have just Googled the question.
And, the second screen, I do believe, is a single physical screen, partitioned by software. If one is trashed, both are I believe.
Thank you. I understand Youtube and Google. The problem with that is there are only like 3 videos, and each video the process is slightly different. When I try and search for the part, I find the glass/LCD digitizer ranging in price from $100-130. This is fine but the problem is I don't want to wait a few weeks to receive it, since all of the places I've found that sell it can't do expedited shipping, and if they do, they are all sold out. Lastly, I also found JUST the top layer of glass (no not a tempered glass protector, the actuall replacement) for only around $10-$20 in price, but there are ZERO videos on Youtube for that process, and a few people in the comments have even asked about this, with no luck.
A combo of multiple things....
This is a relatively new phone. Won't be lots of how tos available for one.
Second, what you are asking about is not a simple fix.
It requires either extreme cold such as, liquid nitrogen or 90% alcohol and dry ice cold. Or extreme heat. You either embrittle the glue with cold and peel it off in pieces or soften via heat and pull it loose in pieces. You run risk of killing your digitizer. Plan ahead accordingly.
You also *will* kill the polarizing layer in between digitizer and glass. Be prepared to replace this as well. Anyone who says otherwise is fibbing, IMO.
Then, you need something to remove the bubbles from the LOCA glue and gorilla glass sandwich.
Then reassemble.
Again: with the phones age, and a small supply chain in place due to the devices age, don't expect much in the way of how tos, or parts.
tl;dr
Not a simple fix. Chances are high you wont get it back to stock without a good technique and some moderately expensive tools.
Edited to add... There's a reason you find very few glass sellers, and lots of people selling digitizer/glass combos. .. The odds of a ****ed job are sky high, esp with phones with curved glass, like Samsung garbage.
On my V10 my front screen had cracked. Rather than try to replace just the digitizer I bought a dead V10 on eBay and replaced the full screen housing from that phone with my motherboard. Much easier to replace full screen assembly if you can find that way.

Fixez - LG V20 Screen with Frame
Just thought I would "help" other LG V20 owners; but I just finished replacing the screen on mine after dropping it on the concrete floor in the parking garage at work. It actually landed face down and I had a crappy Incipio case, so it was a spiderweb of cracks although it still ran fine for 3 months until the lines got thicker and thicker.
Anyway, I ordered a replacement Screen with Frame from Fixez.com and just know that it is NOT OEM or even close. I got my phone working; but just some notes for anyone else who finds this and tries to replace the screen themselves.
Most YouTube videos out there are NOT accurate and you will end up having to "move" extra parts they do not show.
I got the FRAME replacement; but I think it would have been BETTER without because all the tiny pieces are GLUED onto the frame.
You MUST have the tools, especially that tweezer one and get a Hair Dryer, because the parts are TINY and GLUED so easier to loosen.
I broke the Headphone Jack, because the connectors are basically membranes, which is why I think you should just replace SCREEN.
I forgot to clean my front facing camera; but I cleaned the two rears ones, so just make sure you "alcohol and air spray" clean before closing.
It is beyond blurry and I do not want to take it apart; but it could actually be the "low quality" peephole, which is creating "flare and blur".
Once I finished and turned it on, I was overjoyed; but after a week I can "see" more problems and just be aware that you really need OEM.
Problems:
Secondary Screen does not "show" when Main Screen is OFF; but it worked with original screen once option enabled. The top part is not white-white; but just a "hair off" and it is like an "oval thumb circle" and might have been "touched" during manufacture.Put some Arctic Silver CPU compound; because this "knock off" runs HOTTER and the first few boots felt like a "burn in" sequence. There is no LG Logo at the bottom of the screen; so if you decide to "sell" it later, then it will be obvious that you are selling "refurbished".The battery seems to drain faster; but I also noticed it does not "like" a FULL charge and runs nice and cold when lower battery charge.Headphone jack broken. Does not light up when I look at screen. Sometimes "double tap" (KNOCKON) does not work correctly.Sometimes I have to press Power Button twice to turn on screen. Sometimes it is once. Basically "sensors or integration" seem to have issues.I just miss how the "little things" used to work perfectly, even when it was cracked.
Basically, this screen feels like a cheap Chinese "knock off"; but I went for the "cheapest option" I found out there and you get what you pay for, so it works, but I hope this helps someone else out there to make an informed decision. Remember, Fixez (and ALL OTHERS) have a NO RETURN policy; because basically they state that it must be in NEW RESELLABLE condition and you are going to be sticking things, bending wires and removing plastic tabs. So do not listen to anyone and these repair shops will NOT return your money once you try to DIY.
If I had to do it again, then I would have spent more time looking for a screen with the LG Logo and at least try to get something with some OEM "guarantee or promise"; which Fixez NEVER made and I just went for Low Price and USA Based. Might have been better to get something OEM from Asia; because I got ganked anyway and I suspect this screen is going to shorten the lifespan of what was a beautiful LG V20 - H918 from T-Mobile.
:crying:
Does anyone know how to find a decent quality replacement of the glass and digitizer? I'll certainly keep the ease of 'no frame' in mind. I would like an oem product for sure. But I want my phone back asap, so I'll take what I can get
