Try going into Settings>Applications>Video Player and clear Data and cache.
Doing this will not delete or even touch any of your data, this will simply reset the application to how it was first installed into your phone.
If you still continue to have the problem, temporary fix would be an alternate player. I would recommend MX Player, as I found it a lot better than stock player or any other player in the market and supports a wide variety of codecs : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad
Hi, thanks for the reply. The method suggested didn't worked. But, I wonder why the Samsung video player that came along with stock rom is malfunctioning even after I cleared app cache.

It seems like its not working in anyway. So, try wiping the cache from recovery and reboot. If problem still exist then you will have to factory reset from recovery which will erase all data from inbuilt memory. But I recommend you to install third party player.
Hi Ashwin can you b please guide me in "wiping the cache from recovery. "

1.switch off your phone.
2.then press VOLUME UP + POWER On/Off Button + HOME Button till the "Samsung Gt-i9082" screen appears. It will Boot the phone in recovery mode.
3.After booting in recovery you can't navigate by touch. So, 1. use the VOLUME Up and Down button to navigate/scroll.
2. use Power button to select the highlighted option.
4.Now select the wipe cache partition, confirm wipe.
5.select "Reboot system Now".
6.Done.
If Video player still crashes, follow the same process to "Wipe Data/factory reset".
I have rooted SGG so i can't post the images of Stock recovery cause stock recovery and CWM are different.
There are many threads where you will find detailed Guide about Stock recoverys.
Hope I helped.

Yes unfortunately, if nothing else is working to restore your video player to it's state, you'll have to do a factory reset followed by a cache wipe from the recovery by following the method ashwin77sgg mentioned in above post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49331296&postcount=11
In case of root, I would have suggested replacing the apk in /system/app but you mentioned you don't have root, so the only other alternative would be switching to a third-party video player like MXPlayer.
Doing a factory reset will wipe all your apps, and data so please make sure you backup everything you need.

As shocking it might sound it is true, i have accidently discovered it yesterday. It is a bit wonky, i had few issues playing some videos on full screen but generally it works just as on 4.0+.
You dont need hacked flash player.
1. Download and install latest Firefox: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox&hl=en
2. Download latest official Flash Player .apk and install it: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/...roid/11.1.115.81/install_flash_player_ics.apk
3. Go to Firefox Settings/Customize/Display/Plugins and choose enabled.
4. Start Flash Player and choose Firefox as default browser
4. Enjoy Flash content on Android 5.0
You need Firefox, it didn't worked for me on Chrome and Dolphin. :good:

Why would Google enable Flash (indirectly/directly) when it is discontinued and html5 is in place?

The question is: why google should block it? It's a normal program like others..
If you want it you install it, otherwise peace.
Besides, some content providers just use flash for videos.. regardless of the existence of html5
One possible reason could be stoppage of support for security updates in Android devices from Adobe.
Agreed flash just another app but popular apps are always targeted.

Hackers can use flash to initiate attacks on your device. Nuff said.
