Battery going nuts? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running aokp with stock kernel, also paranoid android before and it did this. Any help or ideas to fix these spikes? Battery reading has gone crazy and obviously it's not charging but it bumps up the battery level though

What the hell??? Ok, u have to charge the phonte till 100% and then delete the file:
Code:
data/system/[B]batterystats.bin[/B]
Use the phone normally for a couple of days and report if the problem persists.

Clear Dalvik + cache and let it charge to 100%. OR charge it while the phone is off and do a battery cycle.

Thanks guys. The batterystats.bin file didn't work, also it's a new fresh install of AOKP so the whole data partition got wiped before installing. I think the battery got fried because it's way too hot where I live and the phone heated some times way more than normal.
I'm trying the charge withouth powering on now to see if it cures the problem.

With the phone powered off it didn't charge. If I turn it on it says 0% and then it ramps it up to 22 or any other value higher than what I think it really is. That's the spikes on the screenshot

The same at my cell.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
last time i calibrated the battery i reached 4,205 , that is my personal record. But this value is not very significative because it depens from the corrent usage of the phone. Screen on + cpu running a little bit can decrease voltade showed by 0,1 volt. And i also noticed that the charging process is strange. I assembled a little photovoltaic power station and i know the charging process of lead acid batteries. Because they are composed by 6 elements connected in series, at the end of the charging process the charger need to provide for a short time a voltage 1 volt higher than the normal to equalize the cells. The behavior of the Galaxy s2 charger is similar. The top voltage is reached for a few minues then it decrease to a float level. Very strange thing because the battery is a SINGLE cell and don't need the equalization charge like lead acid batteries.
Probably i just have to study much and play less with my galaxy

Roughly the same.
this time i have 2,204V right after reaching 100%
i guess it varies a lil' more than on my hd2 (i had always the same value there)
EDIT:
obviously i mean 4,204V haha
4,152 V most of the time. Didn't notice it go higher than that on my phone

Thanks in advance
i power cycle every time, charge it full overnight, use it for two days, then charge it overnight again
rinse and repeat
mine was just at 4195
i left it on charge for about 30mins after it beeped to say it was full and just callobrated it as i have been flashing loads of stuff all day
After three calibrates, I get a max of 4.200v and a min of 3.451v

Amazing battery life from extended, then all of a sudden crappy.

I got 26 hours off my first charge from getting Sprint's 2600mah battery off heavy usage. Now i can barely get 6 hours in 50% after i calibrated it. My lesson is, don't fix what's not broken -___- idk why its getting poor battery all of a sudden. I barely even used my phone today. Wth is going on? ;/

Look at your awake time. You have something up a lot. Even when your screen was off you had something running away. If you can't find it do a factory reset and back track your apps. If your rooted its really easy to restore apps, just don't restore data. Start over.
You definitely have a wake lock.
Your phone was awake for hours while the screen wasn't even on at all.
No this is when my battery was good. And that is NOT a wakelock, that is WIFI. WIFI being on counts as awake apparently when i test it.

No, my wifi is on anytime I'm in a wifi area and yet my awake time is not even close to the same amount of time.
It seems like the calibration method you used is what caused you an issue.
It might be that the phone thinks your aftermarket battery is only the stock battery and is therefore only charging part of the battery.

You think flashing a new rom will do? Ive wiped caches and stats before. But i dont have anything wakelocked for sure. I checked betterbatterystats for locks and my current awake and screen times are on par. However what can i do to make my phone recognize that i do have an extended battery in?

And wifi does not cause wake locks. But unless you were playing music the whole time that's a lot of awake time for the screen to be off.

You should definitely watch that awake time though.
You were wake locked in that screen shot and that will eat your battery like none other.

I think all it does is refresh the battery checker, doesn't really affect the battery.
I did this and it lasted just as long if shorter than if you don't do it.
Im on my second Epic. Both have had problems reading the correct battery life.
well it works great for me... i kno the batt stats dont show right but if it thinks its gonna die it will no matter what charge is left, maby all this does is put the right charge% back on the screen...idk... but its a noticeable diff on life for me... especially after flashing something in cwm

I had that issue with my epic; I used this thread:
Calibrate Battery thread - This is how you do it!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884684
I used the powered off method; my phone would display the blue indicator like it was full but the percentage would say 97%, that thread fixed that for me.

Ya I know bout that already, & I've did that a long time ago lol my phone was unplugged @ 9am its now 545 & I'm @ 77% & when its about to die I will do this lil trick & bam 10% turns into 30% or more...
Sent from the Trans-Epic Express
So I'm @ 4% 12hrs unplugged been listening to pandora about 5hrs constantly checking xda all day txtn my ass off & im bout to do my trick... Reporting back in a min
I'm back with 18% not the best but that's how ot works...
Sent from the Trans-Epic Express
Here's another way,
With your phone turned on plug it into a charger. Wait until the blue light turns on. It may read 97%, if so, wait another 15 minutes.
Once the charge reaches about 97%, the blue light turns on and the charge current switches to slow charge. It will charge to 100%, and then cycle between about 96% and 100%.
So, follow the OPs instructions or do nothing.
You,know.... That's one thing that hor (htc) got right. All htc phones charge at a rate of 1% per 1 minute. On our epics, its about 1% per hour. Hor.

Get this:
http://www.amazon.com/CHICHITEC-2x1..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1315804147&sr=1-1
Then wonder why you ever wasted time plugging in your phone. Best accessory I ever got for my epic. The wall charger increased the battery life on the stock battery as well.

Terrible Battery Life

Hey guys. I know XDA is filled with battery threads, and I've done numerous searches around the forums and across the internet. Nothing seems to be helping me.
Recently, the battery life on my Nexus 4 hasn't been so great. I've attached a few screenshots of GSAM. Any ideas on what is causing the significant drain? I'm down 15% in 1 hour and have barely touched my phone. Using stock 4.4.2, rooted with some Xposed modules (none of which seem to correlate to being installed near the time of the battery life becoming crap).
Here is a dump from GSAM as well: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z6uo3q5059mcwhu/02-26-14.txt
Edit 2: After just over 4 hours, I'm down to 50% with a ton of wakelocks. This is the part that I can't find any helpful info about. Here's the new log: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tv01k9tbmo38gbv/02-26-14 2.txt
Edit: Trying to fix the images yet again:

You know, I haven't ever on this device. I had on my Samsung Captivate and Nexus S, but have yet to use any sort of battery calibration on my Nexus 4. And now that you mention it, I've had some strange behavior with going from 35% to 25% rapidly, rebooting, and then having it at 30%.
Do you think it's worth a shot? If so, any good apps for this? When I did it on old devices, I just used the CWM option to delete battery stats and then charged/discharged fully. Seems that TWRP (which I have installed) doesn't have this option.

Thanks a lot, hopefully this works!
what the app does it deletess batterystats.bin
but google already stated that its just placebo, this file is only for the batteryicon
thats why cwm removed it.
second those wakelocks are just seconds. so its normal
third. do you have any sync service?(skype, facebook, email, or even google) if so
try disabling temporaly
if dosent work you may wanna try the xposed + xposed module called disable critical shutdown
then wait till phone turns off and charge for minimum 8hours
if not
change rom/kernel
if still not
its your battery(if so, and you still have warranty, you can get an rma if you live in a google area or get money back if you live in a area where lg controls,or buy another battery

Hadn't read about it being a placebo, thanks for the info. I downloaded BBS and think the issue is actually the (common) msm_hsic_host issue. It had several hours today. I'm flashing Matr1x kernel right now, so we'll see if that takes care of the issue.

Try going back to stock android and check the performance. It can be that one of the Xposed modules is causing you the problem.

Damn is my phone broken

So I bought the phone used for 350 USD. The guy claimed he only used it for two weeks.
Although the phone is great quality, but I think the battery is broken.
Its like drops a percent after other minute use. Anyone please confirm it it's not normal.
Do you know how can I log the battery usage?

From 100% to 70% for 4 hours, just chatting in Internet. Look log in "battery usage " where you can turn on/off "stamina". From 100 to 90 I drown fast. The most long battery life % when it is 60-40%
My phone drops a percent after 5 minutes from 100% and sometimes it takes less time .. but battery life is good

The problem is here when you buy the phone?Try to calibrate battery(there are a lot of methods). The older user probably used wrong his battery. Calibrate and try for another week ...and see the results Do you make a factory reset when you buy it? If you don't ...try it... sometimes factory reset fix batteries calibration problems Sometimes my battery drops like yours but depends what i do.
Yes i did make him do factory reset before I got it. But damn i rush i hadn't, i could have seen total run time.
I read on another thread where it said Facebook app drains battery a lot.
I haven't charged it to 100 percent yet. Will see how long it by doing it.
Uninstalling the Facebook app did make a difference.

Try a hard reset and then flash 4.4.4 again
You should confirm that if the phone is using stock firmware. or you should just flash the stock one by yourself. since you said USED phone.
also if it is battery issue. you should able to get a new one from ebay. and I think there is a video on youtube about open the back panel and change the battery.

Just wanted to post an update.
The About information of my Sony device, non rooted and did complete up to date.
Right now I have it fully charged to 100 percent and have read a few calibration "How-to". I removed it from charged and rebooted the phone. I have install GSM Battery Manager as well.
I still don't know how I can delete battery stats and I think i can't considering the phone isn't rooted. I have stamina mode enabled + low GPU/CPU undervolting option in it.
Lets see how long it last.
