Please help! Phone can't write on SD card. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sup xda. So I just won a galaxy s4 Google edition from a contest, and it can't write on my 32gb Samsung class 10 SD card. The problem is the phone, because it would write perfectly on my s3, also I bought a new one (sd card) and it can't write on it either, so definitely the phone's the problem. I read that this is a problem from android 4.3. Is there a workaround or will I just have to wait for kitkat?
I really need it to be able to write on the SD card cause I have some apps that rely on that.
Please help. Thanks

Isn't this a result of 4.3 disabling that feature? You have to root the phone, and edit a file to allow the media_rw group access. There are tutorials out there to explain in more detail.

That S3 issue sounds like you installed a ROM. I'm not suggesting that, I'm just saying you need to root in order to adjust whatever system file needs adjusting. Here's what I found. Good luck!

Anyone that didn't replace it still has it on their phone, so the OP's request seems reasonable. ( @icedventimocha I replaced mine, so I can't help without starting over and re-rooting )

Kingo uses an "attack server" methodology based on the model of phone discovered. So, what you are looking for might be downloaded rather than initially present in the kingo PC .exe file (even though that .apk file is unlikely to be different from device to device)
If you want to search for it though, remember that .apk files are just a special form of .zip files, so the bytes you are looking for should start with a PKZIP magic number file header.

It should as long as it's the one that installs when you root with kingo.

I thought I still had the superuser apk from rooting with kingo. I had lost root on a tf300t tablet a while ago and just got around to rerooting with kingo this time. the problem is that I already had all my root apps installed before rooting. what I see now is the superuser from chainfire. I plan on unrooting, factory reset and reroot sometime over the weekend - I cant do it before then. I will keep watch and get you the file if you still need it then. I am sorry for getting your hopes up prematurely.

Hi @icedventimocha
I guess I answered this question in the different thread. If you still have the downloadable Kingo installer app ("android_root.exe"), then what you are looking for is packed up inside there. My post gives (link above) gives you instructions how to unpack it.
Hopefully this response is not too late.

Its a new kit kat permission thing..if you are rooted you can fix it..otherwise will just have to wait till the individual app developers to update their app permission.

External SD card mount point fix for kitkat roms
Received the official KitKat update this weekend and found the same issue. Apps like SMS Backup & Restore, ES File explorer but also Sygic has problems with it.
As the solution posted here, is already a couple of months ago, I'm afraid that a fix is not as easy as I hoped. Some say it can be fixed by the 3rd party app developers, some say it must be fixed in Android itself.
Anyone ideas about this?

i will probably root the damn phone.
Last post says it's not for Note 3 and it's not for official ROM and you have to redo it every boot?
Frankly, how can google even do this, sabotage things just like that? Maybe Samsung should come up with that Tizen OS and start making Win phones, couple more updates like this and Android will become another ios, thank you very much.

That's actually my bad. I supposed to say something like that.
Still... What the exact permission is to allow the app to access in read and write mode only cause apparenly it's not about WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE whatsoever.
Same Error
The whole method is related to changing the permissions.xml file with a modified one, either via custom recovery or by simply editing it,, and in some cases this whole method don't work, also requires rooted device, so i think the solution either from a 3rd party applications developer or samsung fixes it bu rolling out a fix update.
I'm having this issue with my Go Backup Pro, Office Suite Pro 7, Polaris Office Viewer

Samsung I337 4.4.2 update issues

Anybody got issues with latest update 4.4.2 for AT&T I337 mobile?
Please post here issues you are facing with latest update.
Thanks!!
None of my end so far. I just updated it last night around 1am EST. Been running since then perfectly fine. The phone is noticeably faster than before and has a quicker response time as well.
After the update the only thing I did have to do extra was reinstall SwiftKey. Any programs that I had that were in a paid status had to be reinstalled. Non-paid apps stayed with no issue.

Restoring with ODIN worked great, must have been trying with the wrong ROM. Now just wish we could root this one and have a variant of the 4.4 that did not have all the bloatware. Don't need all the Samsung and AT&T apps.

Hmm, not sure. I just tested it with my phone. Moved files to the SD, Renamed, Modified, etc... No issues. I tried with the Explorer that came with my phone as well as two file explorers that I tested out from the Play Store. Seems to be working fine for myself. Not sure why it's not working for you.

Overall Ifind the update made my phone much snappier and the data seems faster but speedtest has it the same. The illusion must be from the phone being snappier. I disable new bloatware Beats Music.
I wanted to try ART but it appears Samsung has chosen not to include it.I'm hoping the pieces are still there and it can be enabled once root is obtained.
I have not had any SD Card issues but if I do I assume it may be something that can be worked around with root. So looking for a root method, I am.

It is supposed to work with the built-in file manager, but not with third party apps. Can you tell me which file explorers (beside the built in) lets you rename files on the external SD? I have tried several and that all fail (except the built in one).
It works fine.

HELP!!!!!! Soft Brick. .......I think.

So I'm getting REALLY good at learning... How boot to roota phone. Unfortunately, this time is more serious. I used CF's autoroot. Odin confirmed success. But SuperSU claims that I don't have root. I am operating on limited data. Please, email first, then we can arrange phone call. I don't know how often I'll be able to check here, but I know that it'll be quickest and easiest (for me). Please any Senior Admin intimately familiar with CF, soft bricks, and SGS4. [email protected] 503-443-6862 pst.
You are not soft bricked at all. You're just saying Super user says you have no root access. Seems like you don't have the latest CF auto root for NAE. I would highly recommend that you remove your phone number.

Do you know what android version your phone was on? 4.2.2 4.3 or 4.4.2? I would say if you have access to a computer and internet to download the NAE tar that is in the development section by random45 and Odin it. The instructions are in the thread. Of course you have to be able to access download mode on your phone.

The broken english and limited data led me to think it was from a foreign country.
If and only if you have the Sprint S4, go to the thread already mentioned here and download the NAE .tar. Here's the link again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663619
Verify the MD5 sum, put your phone in download mode, and use ODIN to flash it. That is the only way your problem will be solved. I don't know what you mean exactly by limited data, but if you need to, you can download it in a library or something. It's a large file.

Root with the LATEST version of CF-Autoroot from Chainfire's site; linked in the OP. That's should be this one
Then install any recovery you with. Either with GooManager or via PC Odin.
For recovery I'd recommend Philz philz_touch_6.08.9-jfltespr (You can use others but that has, for me proven the most reliable on 4.4 and most of the 4.3 builds). Builds are here
Hint if you install goomanager and flash a custom recovery you can then use that recovery to flash other recovery zips - either Philz, TWRP or CWM
And Tigard, I'm guessing your somewhere by the 99 and 217.
EDIT!!
You have the T version so don't do anything I said for the regular 720!!

I am going to caution you here, since you have the L720T. I think we all assumed that you were talking about the original L720. Do not use those NAE ROM threads that we linked you to, and whatever root method you use, make sure it works on the L720T. For future questions, make sure you specify what phone you have. This is primarily a forum for the older L720 model phone, not the tri-band phone that you have.
Actually, I had already tried those files several times Prior to you suggesting them. I'm just still shocked, and disbelieving that too low a class SD card caused the problem. Feedback?

I for one don't believe the card was the problem.
With no SD card at all, the phone should've booted no problem.
When I got my phone it didn't have a card in it - I did order a class10 at the same time but it didn't arrive as fast as my phone. I put in an older 8gb class 6 without issue.
Sh*ty sd card and it should boot just access it slowly, unless you did something to move system files to your external SD card before it failed.
Now I do know cards of any type and class can fail - and DO. But the fact that the card is bad shouldn't matter to booting - all that is off the internal storage.
Did they 'sell' you a new card or just give you another?
Seems all weird to me but who knows. Just glad you got it.

Cause you didn't disable your antivirus/anti malware. It's exploit trying to install the root on your device. The exploit was detected by your antivirus & antimalware as a threat so they blocked it. It's truly a false alarm. You will never root your device if you don't trust the exploit.
