Sorry if this has been posted before I did a search and was not able to find any threads that offered a fix for my issue. My nexus 7 turned off randomly and won't power on. My computer recognizes it but shows "unknown device" now. I have tried plugging it in overnight and am unable to access recovery or the bootloader. I don't believe it's a screen issue because it used to be recognized by my computer as a nexus 7.
Are there any other fixes I can try? I was thinking of going through ADB but don't know what commands I would run.
Thanks in advance

Hi, hoponpop...
ADB won't help you unless you can get the device to fully boot.
A few questions....
What was the battery state (ie, percentage wise), before the device 'died'?
When you plug the Nexus 7 into the charger, do you see the WHITE-ON-BLACK battery charging animation?
Have you tried... long pressing the Power Button? (about 20 or 30 seconds or so).

Ged.

The battery was at about 60% before it stopped responding, and there is no charging icon while plugged in. It doesn't really get hot or anything either

The lack of the WHITE-ON-BLACK battery charging animation does not augur well for your Nexus 7, as this animation is part of the bootloader. If the bootloader is dead, effectively the device is dead (hardbricked)... unfortunately.
Quite why this should happen is anybodies guess... but it seems to happen with tiresome frequency. This sort of thing, for example.
But don't give up hope yet... other than a corrupted bootloader, there are other things that may be the cause of your problem.
Have you taken a look at the link referenced by @OffcerClancy above?... also this link is worth a look.
Hope this is of some use, and you get everything working again soon.

I tried all those suggestions. I'm considering a warranty return, but am still looking for some other stuff to try. Would there be any way to flash a new bootloader if that is the issue?

I opened up the Nexus7, removed the Battery cable, waited 3 seconds then reconnected it, und charged it overnight and it was ok after that, I read this solution on a german website, worked for me...

Hey - try the #1 sticky at the top of the Troubleshooting forum. Not too hard to find. It directly addresses your issue, and offers the fixes.
Here's a link.
Do yourself a favor and read through, and perform the fixes in the OP. If those don't work, there are a few new "fixes" offered by forumites in the thread that have yet to be proven as repeatable. The fixes in the OP work in almost every case.
Hope this helps!

Bad USB Port
My device has a loose USB port, which prevents it from charging unless you hold the charging cable in a specific angle. The fix would be to re-solder the connector to the system board, to secure the connection and allow it to charge the battery.

Hey there. I have my Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) for about a month, and since a couple of days ago it has been behaving very weirdly about USB and charging.
First of all, the phone thinks it has USB connected at all times. When I go to the settings menu try to enable mass storage it says USB is already connected, even though it isn't!!!
Sometimes when I start the phone it goes to that USB Kies screen and says "connected", when absolutaly no cables are connected AT ALL!!!
When I turn the cell off, remove the battery and plug it back in, without turning the phone on, the recharging battery icon appears, but blinks with a drained battery icon with a yellow exclamation sign and a thermometer which I sincerely have no idea what that means.
It also takes ages to recognize the power charger or when I really connect the USB cable. And finally, when I take them off, it also takes a while to "perceive" they're off and remove the charging lightning from the battery icons.
PRETTY PLEASE, SOMEONE HELP ME OUT, as I don't have time to take the phone to service, and didn't really want to do that
Thanks!!!
This has also happened to me and loads of other SGS2 users! Although usually it only happens sporadically and not constantly. It seems that it's a bad soldering job or dust/dirt has gathered in the microUSB port. You might be able to fix it, if you're *really* careful.

Last night my phone wouldn't even start charging, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. With the smallest screwdriver I could find, I carefully 'lifted' the tiny PCB in the USB jack while blowing in at the same time. Sure enough, some sand particles fell out, and I haven't gotten carmode'd in nearly 13 hours now. Previously it would do it once every 15 minutes. So far so good, it seems.

Thanks for the help... but what is PCB? Is it the connector inside the "hole"?
Tried that and it stopped thinking USB was connected the whole time... on the other hand, it doesn't detect when I connect the USB cable

You can't talk on plural when you only point out one thread. And I've read that, but it isn't the same as my phone doesn't go in "car mode".
My phone's problem only resembled a problem JaX3RiR briefly mentioned in the middle of the thread.
I tried googling it before posting anything anywhere, but couldn't find anything useful.
Please don't try to look like a smartass like that and embarrass yourself. If you got nothing to add to the thread, it's best if you sit out of it. It's much more appreciated when helpful people like JaX3RiR post...
Hi,had the same problem, tried reflashing back to original firmware, but still had the same problem,,the only way i could boot the phone was through recovery mode,(reboot)Had to send phone back for possible repair??cut a long story short they sent me a new phone,,They said they couldnt repair the fault, something to do with the usb charging system,,So i would advise anyone with this specific problem,to send phone back, and get a replacement..hope you get it solved
Thanks mate, I sent mine today as well... I hope they act the same with me, as I'm afraid customer service around here always tries to incriminate the user not to use the warranty...

There is no reason to be angry, I'm just trying to help, and just wanted that we all post in one thread, so it would be easier to track later.
I just posted longest thread. Here is another one if it helps to justify:

I'm pretty sure you have the same problem. Sometimes Vlingo starts, sometimes phone thinks its charging, when trying to boot it shows battery image and won't boot, can boot only recovery and do restart from there.
Get of the high horse when people are trying to help you.
Are you sure you didn't connect USB cable upside down or bended USB port with the cable?
I have no idea what Vlingo is, and obviously I didn't connect the USB cable upside down. I don't think I bended the port with the cable since it still recognizes the cable for charging or booting and going directly into Kies mode, for example.
I am not on any high horse when people try to help me, as you could see my response towards the guys above. Your post wasn't sounding helpful at all, you were just sounding like "hey, you dumass noobie, don't open a new thread for yourself, check the forums first".
By the way, I also took a look at that thread you posted before posting mine, but I have no idea what is "car mode" on my phone...
Sorry if I sounded rough. I thought it is similar issue, so I posted link to longer thread. I had this issue myself.
Peace. Let us know what the service say .
This happened to me one week ago while on holiday....that temp indicator while charging plus the other stuff you mention....
Plus the phone went into flight mode and won't come out....
Got home and did a reset and phone now doesn't recognise sim card...

Hello,
Had the same problems aswell, only mine had a bunch of other problems aswell:
When I shut down my mobile it restarts itself and then shows a yellow exclamation mark with an tempgage. Only way to turn on my phone is to connect it with the charger, turn of my phone again, remove the charger and then the phone turned itself on again but without the temp gage.
My phone also thinks its charging when it is not, and when I am actually charging it, its not charging.
Also my PC does not recognize my phone so I am not able to update it.
I have also sent my phone for a repair, I will keep you guys posted.
greets from the netherlands
Yep, mine only got fixed by going into service. It got its mainboard warranty switched.
T- Mobile sent me a replacement phone
They seemed to know the symptoms when I explained what was happening
Same fault for me. Mainboard replaced, works fine now.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
How did you guys get it fixed? Did you have to ship the phone out somewhere? How long did you have to wait to get it back? What was the process?
Thanks.
Mine is going to be repaired in two weeks.
I was the 8th SGS2 since tuesday which came in the repair center.
The repair guy said it is a manifacturing fault.
The phone gets hots, and outside temperature is cold, so it makes moisture in the phone.
This cause the phones power management to get fu up (SGS2 has a small battery inside of it, and that gets fu up). Only fix is replace hardware, but 9 of 10 times Samsung gives the fault to the customer. They say it has water damage and can't be fixed in warrenty...
I'm going to write a huge article about it, and I hope it will get published by a lot of site's soon. Phones he admitted having the problem: SGS1, SGS2 and SGSN.
I charged my GS2 2x by USB and it's discharged faster than by the sector
The USB power isn't enough for charge up the GS2 correctly
Are you guys suffering from rapid battery discharging, i have all of the above symptons but my battery drains within hours...I`ve even bought a brand new battery off ebay that is exacly the same issues... I`d like to send it back to O2 but i`ve rooted and flashed custom firmware...
I've tried the Kindle Unbrick Utility, but it never found the device because it won't even turn on. Not a hint of a button glow, nor relief from the 20 second hard reset solution. I am currently trying the 15 minute hard reset, as I am left with no logical conclusions as far as I am concerned. Help me geniuses?
Are there any brave souls out there? I'm on the verge of giving up, so either tell me to suck it up and send it in, or give me constructive advice, please?
Does it have a charge? Put it on the charger for a couple hours and try again.

It was fully charged and plugged in to my computer when I first shut it down and attempted to turn it back on. I will leave it on the wall charger all night, and hope for the best in the morning. Good suggestion.
Still not turning on. I suppose I know what needs to happen next..
Make sure your using the correct charging cable. My wife had a similar issue with charging only and it turns out she was trying to charge using another cable. I noticed that the kindle fire charges at a different voltage than say her HTC Evo 4g. Same cable connection USB mini B but very different voltages for charging.
Next thing to try would be a factory cable and see if you can force it to boot into Fastboot. If it does recovery from there is possible.
It is on the factory charger now, but what do I try now? I've just tried the 20 second hard reset while on the factory charger, yet still no luck.
When its charging does the power button light up green or orange?

Well, I am unsure whether or not to make one of those. As long as the Kindle Fire doesn't turn on, nor does a green or orange light glow, I think I will ship it back (since it will be free and I have no money for investments right now). Yes, I've rooted it and also added TWRP to it, but since I've tried methods the people at Amazon would try (besides the factory cable), I'm rather certain it will not void the warranty, and a new one will sit comfortably in my hands.
Would any one else consider this question solved? (so I can change the status of the thread)
sound really like a hw failure - amazon don't look very close

I read on random forums, and the Amazon forum, that the shipping will be free as long as they can't fix it, meaning there are no obvious fixes (like a hardware failure), and they replace it with a brand new copy. I'm not sure that is the correct truth though.
as i have read from many others here - they simply send you a new one without looking very closely
many people got for a new one allthrough it would have been easy to fix
many with much minor problem as you have
and if a device is fixable and someone want to fix it i help them to do
but for me your device seems not fixable - as i said - i think hw failure
return it - go for a new one and don't worry !

Yeah! As I talked with the woman who worked for Amazon's customer service, she asked me to try the hard reset option, and plugging it in to a computer and the wall charger. As I knew, they would not prove to be successful attempts.
I was eager to fix the Kindle Fire, but now I'm excited for this new one to play with!
I have read all articles on this forum regarding all issues but none seems to have been of any help. My nexus isnt powering up. When i Plug it in to power, it doesnt show any sign of charging but the back gets warm indicating that power is actually going in. I have tried long pressing for over 1minutes and still the same thing. No response of any sort. I was hoping there should be something that can b done to it like re-running the os like i did my LG optimus when it had the same issue. Please i need help. I have tried all the options of pressing on the site and none seems to help.

Thanks for your response. Really apreciate it. I have checked the battery of my nexus to be sure its well seated and it is. I even changed the battery to a fully charged one and its still the same thing. Since day one it never came on. I have long press for over 2minutes and still nothing. Is there any other thing i can try cus i can send it back to google as my aunt got it for me when she travelled to USA some weeks back and any chance of returning is zero
I tried to find the solution on this forum and with help of google. So I assume people may say ... NOT AGAIN
I have a rooted nexus so warranty is gone. It is 2 month old. I needed vnc so I could start skype remotely so my parents in law (75 years) could see us and we see them. Well the VNC doesnt work so in fact I wanted to put it back non-rooted.
The nexus 7 got completely battery drained (yes I know that I shouldnt do that, but has been somewhere and forgot that it maybe still was running).
I tried all the common tricks what I found:
1. 30 seconds power on button after 12 hours on the original charger.
2. Reset power on/vol up/vol down
3. Fast take out plug and plug in and holding the power button.
No chance. I also can't get to the bootloader. In fact it doesn't wanna do anything. I also tried different power sockets. Used the charger on my phone so to check it is working. I have no chance to get the nexus 7 to charge. It has been charging normally before so I would say that may excluded a lose cable.. to be sure I checked it and all is in place.
Does anyone have any solution or is a replacement of the battery the only option? Can a battery really that easy damaged? Any help would be appreciated.
Make sure to check every fix listed in my thread.
It's a sticky, so everyone has easy access to it in this forum.
Since your N7 is rooted, there may be other variables in the equation not accounted for in my thread.
But in general, the recommended thread lists everything an N7 owner needs to know to bring their N7 back to life, or to get it to charge correctly, or to get the battery status to recalibrate.
Good luck!

Hello,
I got an old Nexus 7 from my sister and would like to use, but I cant get it to work. It does nothing, no screen flicker/backlight showing, nothing. The only thing that somewhat works is that I can get ist to show up in Linux as NvFlash with Lsusb.
The Nexus 7 never had a custom rom or root, it was completly stock. It was mostly used in the original dock. I did already swap the battery, I did try all buttom combos I could find on the web, but still I cant anything else than showing up as nvflash. I can hear some noisy if I put my ear near the tegra cpu, once I tried to power it via button pressing.
Do you have any idea on how to revive this thing?
You can try the Nexus Root Toolkit and see if it can Unroot (this flashes the stock os) with the Bricked radio button selected, but I would not be hopeful.

You may have to use nvflash to flash the bootloader. Search with Google. There are some results which may help.
Hi, thank you both for your reply. I will try it next week, since I am currently not at home. @tnsmani dont I need some special files because of the encryption? I havent got those :/

That's why I said search with Google.
So I searched Google, but all the results I found say it is not possible to reflash the bootloader without the blob file since it used a device specific key. I guess I am out of luck then :/

Hi, Nachoztyle...
Mmm, from your description, it certainly doesn't sound promising. If the bootloader is corrupted or erased, the device is hardbricked, and a motherboard replacement would be required to render the device bootable again.
APX/NVflash mode is pretty much a non-starter if you haven't, at some point in the past, created your own unique 'flatline' blobs for your own specific N7.
However...
My own N7, which I sometimes completely forget about whilst it's lying on my desk, frequently runs out of power/charge, and when it does, the device appears completely and utterly dead.
So when I plug it into the charger, nothing happens. This happened recently, a few days ago, actually ~ I tried to power it on, and nothing happened. As usual, I plugged it in to my mains charger; I use an Amazon Kindle charger, output rated at 5volts/1.8amps, which I'm fairly certain is roughly equivalent to the original charger which shipped with the N7 back in 2012.
And nothing happened. I unplugged it and replugged it back in again, several times - and still no screen response.
So, I left it connected to the charger, overnight. The following morning, my N7 booted up.
I've had this happen before with my N7, that when the battery dies, it can take a bit of 'coaxing' back into life, sometimes with several plugging and unpluggings into the charger, and sometimes with different chargers and USB cables.
So, in conclusion then, it might be worth tinkering around with different chargers and/or different USB cables. Even with my 5volt/1.8amp Kindle charger, it can still take a good 12-16 hours before I can actually use it.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Sadly the device was always used stock and the flatline blobs never created.
I will play around with some chargers, I got a couple different ones, including the original one flying around.
