Entering text with S pen - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I start entering text with S pen there is a dotted line with the indication for space between words. But as I keep entering text the dotted line becomes straight without the space indication and the written words get together without any spaces between the words.
Have you had similar problems?

I don't have my Note 3 yet so I can't say where, but there's an option somewhere in the settings to turn on "auto spacing". Maybe that applies to written text?

Does that help?

In the video you can see the dotted line and the lower parts indicating the spacies between words. But as I mentioned they disappear and the dotted line becomes straight and the words get together without spacies...
The video itself is good for learning

Word Document issues

On WM 6.5, I find it almost impossible to edit word documents. Highlighting certain sections for copying, cutting is next to impossible. By repeatedly tapping on the screen, you can highlight a word or paragraph, but forget about highlighting 2 words next to each other. Anybody else ran into this problem and found a fix?
Press and hold for about as long as it normally takes to trigger a popup menu. You won't see any indication that anything is happening, but after the proper delay you will be able to select instead of scrolling.

Great. Will try that out as well.
Now, how about the other way around? I have some 3rd party software where I would like finger scrolling to be enabled but default behavior is no scrolling. Could someone direct me to the appropriate registry?

Whoever approved the text selection method at HTC needs to be sacked.

So I'm in a webpage. I want to copy and paste a section of a paragraph of text.
I hold my finger over the text till I get the option to turn text selection on. I turn it on then proceed to attempt to select the text I'm interested in. Except I can't see the text as my finger obscures it. So I have to keep trying to do it blind untill by complete luck the right bit is highlighted.
What bright spark allowed this through quality control? It's idiotic and wastes so much time.

Tip #40. Doesnt work in everything, many apps have their own settings for select.
Thanks but the tip #40 is even more irritating as it means somewhere down the line someone realised highlighting text could do with some help, but they disabled it by default.
heh, yea, but thats half the fun of it!

HTC HD2 SMS Texing cursor abnormal behavior

Every time I sent a text, when I tap on the button 12# to use the signs and numbers, the cursor automatically dislocate to the beginning of the message. This is really annoying and mess up the texting process. Does anyone have the same problem? is there a fix for this?
please help... Many thanks.
Confirmed
A workaround is to make sure there is a 'space' after your text before selecting 12#. Not sure how viable that is for you.
I have noticed the first time you select 12# all is fine.
However after additional texting, reselecting 12# produces your issue!
You can aslo easily click at the end of your text and you will still be in the numeric keyboard. Of course you can also stay in the default text keyboard and hold down the 'q' key to get to number '1', w for 2 etc.

Thanks for the tips. I wish the texting on this phone could be like the iPhone. The iPhone texting is the best so far I've used. Very responsive and smooth. Accurate texting correction too. sigh...
More texting tips
Sure thing.
Also check out the link below for some useful tips on improving texting and adding common used text or email addresses etc to the XT9 My Words, hidden on the phone.

I've noticed if messaging is in the middle of suggesting a word it will go back to the beginning, if not it won't.
do you guys think hard reset will fix the problem? I'm tempted to do it but worry that it could be a waste of effort since after a hard reset i have to set up the phone all over again from scratch.

It will be waste of time. All you got to do it complete the word and if any suggested words are still showing press the correct one. Then press 12#

I also get this problem quite often.
I am wondering if the Rom update that was posted to the HTC HK site (in English) will fix this problem.
The update seems to deal with their sms system, so I am sure we are not alone in this problem.

Hi, the 1.66 ROM doesn't fix it, I put that on at the weekend & still having the same issues. Battery life seems much better though
I didn't have this problem until I applied the sms hotfix from the HTC site. Have noticed it only affects the sms texting, emails and documents are unaffected.
I'm also having problems with the cursor but in a different behavior...my cursor goes ahead of my last text like about 17 spaces ahead, but when i type again, the letters (characters) will still appear after the last text that i typed, but still my cursor is ahead. it only happens when my dialogs in a contact reaches to 10 above and i am already typing at the second onward lines of my text message. it is difficult specialy when i'm deleting, i can't delete accurately. like this:
note: " l " is the cursor
" . " as the no. of spaces
"when are you going home? please
drop by the............ l "
and then
"when are you going home? please
drop by the store...........l "................and so on...
does anybody experienced this?
before my sms client is v1.5 (the stock client?), now v1.8....still the same.

Box around notes
My problem with Snote is that when I click to start writing with the spen a blue box appears and all writing is done in that box. When it goes to the next line the blue box expands to include that line.
How can I get rid of the blue box.

I would like to ask some questions, if that's okay with you? It's mostly so I know exactly how things appear on your end and to make it easier to answer your questions.
First, are you clicking the button as you are writing in SNote? Have you tried writing in SNote without clicking the button?
Does the blue box appear at the bottom or in the middle of the screen?
If it's possible, grab a screen shot and attach it.
Which firmware are you on. ?? I am using my script notes and it's super fast.. Best ever.. .. Any idea on when our devices ll get kitkat??

Attached is a view of what I mean. I have the P605. I dont click the stylus button. But you can see the blue box around my typing if I put in another line the blue box expands. I wrote a lecture for half an hour and when I went to review it I could only see part of it. there should have been 2 pages but could only see one.
The blue box appears as soon as I touch the screen with the SPen.

Thank you for that screenshot! It was a very helpful thing.
That bluebox is for the text input mode, and it will show up pretty much automatically when S-note is in edit mode. When not in edit mode, as shown on the first attached screenshot from my Note 3 (since they essentially share the same S-note other than Templates...), you should see no blue box.
You WILL however, see a blue triangle at the bottom right and possibly the upper right. Try tapping that with your pen or finger. The end result should be the same as the second screenshot, a pop up window. You should be able to scroll and find the rest of your lecture that way.
...but yeah, that mode will end up treating that box as one continuous, yet scrollable page. It should keep everything, though.
Hopefully that helps, but if I was way off base, lemme know.
Can you tell me a bit more about what your problem with s note actually is so that I can compare my problem with yours??

That was exactly my problem. I have found the you CANNOT write for half an hour taking notes and expect the snote to move to another page when the first one gets full. That was how the note 8 snote worked and that is the one I prefer. I don't want to have to keep creating text boxes just so I can have separate pages. IMO the new snote has gone back to the stone age. I don't use it any more, gone to lecture notes.

Keyboard/Autocorrect Issue

When I type into a text box at a fast pace, occasionally a misspelled word would be corrected and then repeat. I would type say, "Hiw are you?" And get "How how are you?". No I do not select the word, it just does it.

it is not a bug.
it is an autocorrect system from samsung keyboard which link to google dictionary or somewhere dictionary
when autocorrect is on, and when you type something wrong, and then press space, your wrong typo will be replaced automatically.
Not a bug. But the AI not learning well or maybe too well ?
