can someone answer a few questions about this phone?? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey.. i been rooting and flashing for 3 years strong.. im with sprint so i had the og evo.. the evo 3d.. the evo 3g lte.. galaxy s4.. galaxy s4.. now have the htc one.. and im always rooting peoples phone around me.. since i been been rooting phones i never rooted a motorola phone.. i here they can be a pain in the a$$!!? i have a friend that has this phone and i want to root it for him.. is this phone worth rooting or is it super hard... i looked and dont seem to have much for roms.. can somwone link me to the info on how i would go about unlocking and rooting this badboy.. also what rom is the most stable i could flash for him? or should i not root this phone and just wait till he get something new.. sorry for all the questions.. thanks!

To root it depends on which ota you are running. The latest one (I can't remember which) is not root friendly and is a pain to install custom ROMs on. I recommend liquid smooth 2.9. I've been using it for a week and its the best 4.2 ROM currently. You can also try 4.3 but I don't think its too stable yet. Double check which version you are currently running on the phone so more knowledgeable people can help you.

Ummmm OK... well I was just wanting to know to determine if the device in question was unlockable and which root method to direct him to... I'm unsure there is a way to see when the device was actually made short of taking it apart and looking at the sticker/stamp on the logic board...

This phone has an abundance of custom ROMs:
CM10.1-10.2
Carbon
PACman
Liquidsmooth
Eclipse
And tons more, definatley worth it.

This is the information we need to know to determine if he can unlock, or not.

You use rooting to remove all of the Samsung and T-Mobile bloatware you would not like on the device. Also you can now install custom ROMS when they are made available such as CM6. Which means you can get future software updates such as OS 2.2 (froyo) before Samsung actually rolls it out. There are other benefits to rooting but you'll figure them out as you go.
How do I remove all that tmobile crap off the phone

Search around on here. There are threads on how to do so. I personally haven't done it yet so I couldn't give you the specifics.

The firmware version is equal to the version of Android you're running. The numbers shown in that field will correspond to your Android version generally speaking, so it should read 2.3.something
Thats what i thought. Im getting the 2.3 update and its downloading it but i dont think its installing it. I have a rooted sprint tabket runnin 2.2 but i dont care if i lose root i want the update.

Don't do it man - the update is not worth it.
If you want update find a decent custom gingerbread rom..... Samsung update barely does anything except change some stuff under the hood.

Problem Rooting MyTouch 4G 2.3.4

2. If i have to downgrade can i reload 2.3.4 and stay rooted ?
3. only reason i want to root this phone at this time is because i want the new Google Apps i had the new market and **** before the OTA update... OTA update comes around and now i have the old one again. How can i get the new apps back ?
4. i want this on my phone is it possible from google now a glitchy rom ? http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0-highlights.html

I dont know if I am allowed to post links to other websites but google CyanogenMod wiki for mytouch 4g and click on the full update guide and it will show you step by step how to downgrade and root the mytouch. Then you can flash any of the gingerbread roms you like. Make sure you follow the directions exactly or else you will brick your device. Also make sure the md5 sums match up for each file before you start the process.

lol i was just looking at CyanogenM im really liking the android 4 OS, id like to put that on my phone. i think what i want to do is get the 2.3.4 back(if i cant get Android 4) and have it rooted
You downgrade to 2.2.1 use gfree to obtain s-off then flash clockworkmod recovery and then flash any rom you want. the software number (2.2.1 2.3.4 2.3.5 etc.) Changes with each rom. Now if you look closely 2 posts up you will see the beta 4.0.1 thread we have and above that the sticky where it shows how to downgrade and how to root after that, PLEASE read before searching and search before posting

1. Yes, but it's only temp root and it's a long process
2. Yes, there is a stock GB rooted ROM on the dev page somewhere
3. Don't really understand your question
4. There is an ICS AOSP Beta. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383629
Also, please post in the Q&A or General next time.

New To Smartphones & Galaxy Note

Hello Everyone
I'm a total novice with smartphones having used an old nokia flip phone for the past 8 years. Anyway i needed a new business phone and took the plunge and got myself a Samsung Galaxy Note ... lol ... After the initial shock, i love it ....
As stated i'm a noobie to smart phones but fairly handy at Tech being a linux only user ...
So i am wanting to root this phone and then get rid of all the bloatware rubbish. I tried to root this thing last night, but kept getting an error about incompatible file.
Looking at my current system this is whats installed:
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband: N7000XXLA4
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
Any guidance would be very helpful and once i get used to a smartphone & android haha i'll be rocking ....
Many Thanks
As a Linux user, you're going to feel right at home on rooted Android!
You'll also feel at home reading lots of guides on how to do stuff and fix things, amirite?
I got my root with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
That should work with all Notes, no matter which version firmware you're running. It's basically the "nuke from orbit" of rooting.
Btw, be sure to get Botbrew when you're rooted for more Linux CLI goodness.
