I checked my cpu state in cpu z and I see that only core 1 and 2 are active. Core 3 and 4 are stopped. Nexus is quadcore so.why those cores are not working? Whatis the meaning of using 2 cores only when you have a quadcore installed in? I checked in some other applications too and it is.the same. It seeams that 2 cores are never used. How can I activate it? I am on miui 3.9.20 kernel franco 165 and android 4.2.2. Cpu overclocking works well.

Two words: custom kernel
If you do something intensive with your phone, it will use all cores. Why would you need 4 cores for UI anyway, Franco did a great job with his kernel.

If all your 4 cores were running even when doing nothing or just texting etc, your battery would be dead in a short time.
It activates all cores when playing games etc but stops cores when you don't need it to save battery.

Simple before you flash stuff read up on it to see exactly what it does. Also trickster or Faux app can help. You just cant flash things and then wonder why stuff changed.... LOL

I realize this is a very old thread but I'm having this very same issue on my Nexus 6. I checked both with Stock Android and LineageOS, both have 2 cores at random stop which makes the phone laggy. In both cases with full battery and me starting apps that require 4 cores. Restarting the phone will bring all 4 cores back.

Hi, is there anyway to get the full tegra 3 effects on out nexus 4? (We all know the adreno 320 is better than the tegra 3). I tried the chainfire method, but that ends up in a bootloop so don't try that. I can only get dead trigger running on ultra high(thanks to the xml edit), but the other games like nova 3 etc doesn't have the xml editing method(well probably but I don't know the run value for the tegra 3 effects).

No. Get a Nexus 7 or any devices with a Tegra 3 CPU chip.
*sigh
Thanks for the reply
I guess I'll be purchasing the nexus 7 v2 when it's released. (hopefully it'll be a tegra 4 device).

On second thought, I take my last comment back. It may be possible to increase the performance in games using the GPU by overclocking it.
There are several kernels out there (I'm not too sure which ones) has the feature to overclock the GPU.
Faux kernel has GPU overclocking.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2008222
NOTE: I don't it's wise to underclock CPUs or GPUs. Well just don't leave it overclocked daily. Activate it when you need the extra boost and return it back to normal after you finished doing what you're doing.

won't work....it detects the gpu by hardware id and doesnt use some performance test.
search the forums. some people have posted modded apk's for some of those games that change the settings.

Rightt. I guess I was right after all.
In the xml file of 'beach buggy blitz' there's a run value string. I'm guessing that if I change that to what tegra devices have it should work. And also change the permissions to read only. If you have a tegra 3 device, please tell me the run value of beach buggy blitz(it's in data/data/com. Vectorunitw.yellow)

Check out this video. Don't know about other games, you can always try similar settings and reinstall if it breaks the game.
I know, that's what I did for dead trigger. Other games like riptide gp and beach buggy blitz have a specific run value in the settings file (the xml file)

I don't know weather this is a bug in M-Kernel a38, but occasionally it keeps freezing:
CPU: 1.6 GHz - Performance
GPU: 468 MHz - Unknown Governor
Possible, but you should post this in the M-kernel thread, you could get your answer there. Weather is nice here
Derp, spelling.
Well of course it's going to freeze! You've overclocked it to 1.6 GHz. Not all devices are going to be stable at that frequency. You may be able to improve it by tweaking the voltages a bit.
And I would NOT use the performance governor for purposes other than testing, and especially not permanently. On m-kernel, it sets all four cores to max frequency no matter what. That's a great way to have horrible battery life and a hot device, with excessive processor wear. I don't really see why you would even need to use it.
Start by changing governor to touchdemand, and if that doesn't help, try adjusting voltages.

That observation only provides info about what your individual device is capable of; it provides no information at all about what clock rates another device will begin to fault at.
The fact that the EDP code in the stock kernel downclocks from 1.3 to 1.2 GHz when more than one of the G-cluster cores comes online is evidence that Nvidia observed some small fraction of Tegra30 devices that can barely operate safely with a single core running at 1.3 GHz. Otherwise, what would the point of that EDP code be - to willfully make their devices less competitive against other SoCs?
Running the performance rate governor for anything but short benchmarks is like trying to purposely shorten the operating lifetime of both the mobo and the battery.
I tried M-Kernel last week, and it constantly crashed when it was doing something.
Such as browsing Chrome/Youtube/Gmail.
M-Kernel just doesn't seem stable atm. Not only the crashes but also reboots with M-Kernel.
Before anyone says, I didn't overclock/undervolt anything, so its the kernel in general.
Went back to Faux kernel and not had a single crash.

The problem was not m-kernel. It's m-kernel in your configuration. I'm in that thread daily and flash every rev including the alphas. Are there are no reports of problems like this. The act of flashing Faux is probably what fixed your problem. Did you flash a ROM/GAPPS? All those apps you reported crashing are Google apps.

Gameloft games are only optimised for Adreno and Mali, not PowerVR.
GTA SA lags with almost all android devices
Man, but this game no lag in stock tw 4.3 and cm11 even i used only 2 core clocked in 1.200ghz.. maybe this bug only in i9500 tw 4.4.2 ?

Probably Samsung's aggressive thermal throttling which was introduced with 4.4.2.
BTW, how on earth did you get games to only run on 2 of the 4 low power A7 cores?

No, the A15s run at 1.6Ghz... which is what I am rather concerned about.
Because a normally functioning phone should utilise all cores and speeds should be fluctuating above 1.2Ghz in for graphically intensive games in your case.
The i9100 has a optimised Mali 400 GPU which should run GTA better than most Adreno or PowerVR of that gen.
It is also worth noting that the SGS2 is running at a awfully lot lower resolution at 800*480 compared to 1920*1080 which will require a lot more processing power than the S2 to run those games at similar settings.
Both GPU and CPU are important.

I just bought a s4 i9500 and I really hate the "s lag". I think disabling the cluster Qual Core A15, will lag free, something like trick the kernel to run always in light tasks and the power cores 1.6GHz wont activates ever. Dumb Question? yeah, maybe.
Edit: Using only Quadcore 1.2GHz will be efficient too.

yes,you can..with root and right kernel...but it'll kill the purpose for having quadcore chipset right?
i've been using for play games,it can last about 3 hours if i play directly.
there's no point to disable A15 because it wont activate if you run light task.

Hello guys,
Recently purchased a nexus 6p. Doesn't it have 2.0 ghz core? Why does CPU spy shows max till 1.5 ghz only? Any ideas?
Sorry if I sound noob.
Thanks

There are 8 CPU cores. 4 run at 2.0, the other 4 at 1.5.

Some apps only show the slower cores. (Slow Cluster)
GHZ
Issue solved! Moderator, I request you to close the thread. It has been noticed that some old apps like cpu spy doesn't show the 2 ghz core, whereas cpu z shows them.
Thanks everyone.
