I'm using 4160x3120 as it's the highest resolution, it's not as wide but you could always crop it later if you wanted.

It depends what you want to view it on. Basically 4160x3120 is standard 4:3 and 4160x2340 is widescreen 16:9.

Is it 4160x3120 the one at 4:3 or 16:9? it would seem the 3120 would be the 16:9 based on the 3120 dimension.
Thanks everyone for the reply.

um

Neither will offer improvement in photo quality over the other.
Coming from the DNA with the Lyapota camera I wish the this had more settings. they can make a big difference.

4160x3120 is 4:3.
You can use a online calculator (just google 'aspect ratio calculator'), if you want to double check any other resolutions.

Camera settings for best quality

Guys okay i can see all of you likes the camera quality and i think then is just me i cant do the right settings to it to get good quality pictures ... i read in this forum to get rid of task killers and use only System Panel and to disable the image stabilizer to get more focused and non blurry pictures but still i don`t think the quality is that great because the sharpness is big fail ...(or it is me not using the right settings) if i have to compare it with camera of nokia 6700 the nokia is taking better quality pictures ... if somebody can tell me what is the right settings to use i`ll be more than happy ty! atm i at as it fallows Normal capturing mode, 8mpx or 6mpx it depends scenes more often are in normal and using multi autofocus as common taking picture method
i agree, id be very interested in the replies, i put most of mine down to poor light but to be fair it should be able to deal with indoor lighting
Ive used 8mp and 6mp wide. I switch on screen touch to take photo. Image stabiliser off.

well its looking good John but anyways in full size picture the quality is not so good... when i`m looking my pictures in my phone they look great but when i download them at my pc they are very different ...i red about switching stabilizer off and its a bit better y but still is more to want from that camera

I use Vignette since I think the default camera app messes with the picture.. it compresses it or something
Plus with Vignette you can take 16:9 8 mp shots, not just 4:3 8 mp. and they look great. Look at my timelapse for proof
yeah with vignette is much better i think but it is only me again how to shoot video with vignette ... because i can only take pictures with this widget
Vignette has a widget?
Anyway Vignette is only for taking pictures, not videos
I think the pics are compressed when uploaded. Zoom is hopeless though.

Yeah... it's a crap digital zoom. Not gonna get anything more out of a lens that small. I don't think I've seen a cameraphone with an optical zoom, and we have some insane cameraphones in Japan. (12 MP CCD with 1080p video, ect)

Tap on the Star button - effects and frames
And then go to frame and choose 16:9
always try to play with EV. It kinda seems that on 0 EV images are bit over exposed. Same as taking well lit night images, lowering EV do -0.7 -1 also lowers ISO values, so you ll get less noise

Well, thing is, Vignette can't do that
And the stock camera app is compressing the files too much.
Why the hell SE doesn't give us the option to set compression level?

8mp 16:9 display

Well as the title says Im looking for this option for our camera. I know its possible because it was on 2.2 froyo. It was just called 1080 hd. So Im wondering maybe in some sort of add on could we add this option to the stock camera in the gingerbread stock. I know everyones seen the improvement in pictures with this update and with the bravia engine now the detail is unreal. Now wouldnt it be great if it was bigger?
Sent from my x10 on official gingerbread
Its not possible. The 1080p was only 2.1 mp not 8. Change your stock cam to 2.1 (16:9) feature and you will see its 1080p.
4:3 is the aspect ratio for 8mp on most stand cameras whether its a phone, digital camera, etc.
The second you start changing the aspect ratio, its usally gonna result in less mp. But why does it matter? Not like mp are what defines quality....use the 6mp wide option if you want full screen shots. The quality doesnt change.

there is a way to achieve 16:9 on 8mp its via 3rd party app called vignette once you buy it from market it gives you that option to do so. so there is a way yes..

No! Vignette does not give 8mp 16:9 images. It gives 6. Look at the exif info of your shots.

Exactly, and the second you change the frames you have changed the mp regardless of if you have it set on 3 ,5 or 8
Vignettes 16:9 option will give you 6mp image. Regardless if your set to 8mp

Please show me these images that do 16:9 with 8mp. Once you go and change the aspect ratio,,,the mp/resolution will change. Froyo cam wont do it, miui cam wont do, stock se wont, vignette wont, 360 ultimate wont.
And if im wrong, like I said, just show me an image along with the exif info displaying the resolution and mp
Im not trying to argue with you, I just want you to understand once your change the aspect ratio of the picture, it will change the resolution as well.

I may be wrong!
3264x2448 is 8mp but our stock 6mp wide also takes width of 3264 but at the height of 1836 instead of 2448 pixels!
same as vignette or c360

I'd rather have low compression or even no compression. At least then you start with a higher quality image you can crop/adjust without continous loss.

I was under the impression that SE has 720p ( HD) camera and not 1080p ( FULL HD). Also when we talk about 720p or 1080p, it is Video Capture mode and not picture mode. But I might be wrong......

Your absolutely correct!
The 1080p thing was a little overhyped. As its resolution is 1920x1080....2.1mp.

Which photo size should i use in the camera app?

What should i set the photo size in the camera app? I was using the 13mp setting but the aspect ratio was small with black bars.
9.6mp is better as i can shoot photos in full screen. Am i losing any quality if i continue using the 9.6mp instead of 13mp?
The only thing you lose is a bit of zoomability. Nothing else.

Yes you are but if you don't intend on printing images in 4:3 format (standard) then don't worry about it.
Most people now days just 'view' their images on a screen or their own device. So in that case 16:9, wide screen (9.6mp) is the better choice.
FYI; I use 16:9

Personal preferences I guess. I am using 13mp
I did a couple of sample shots before. If you're not zooming in, you won't be able to tell. I do a lot of zooming on my pictures though, at maximum zoom, there is significant difference between the two. So I'm keeping it at 13 mp.

Hi guys,
Just thought I would pass this on that default camera is in 16:9 format and reduces the resolution of the camera.
Go into settings of camera and select top choice 4:3 @ highest resolution then take your photos.
I noticed better more real color reproduction in this higher mode + slight more sharpness.
Good luck. :good:

Thnx 4 the tip. I went between 16:9 & 4:3 and the 4:3 is ever so slightly sharper. I assume setting the gallery at max would save photo at max resolution?

Resolution of picture

Do you prefer to shoot at 16M or at 21M ? and after do you resize your photos to reduce the size ?
I like the widescreen of 16MP but I shoot in 4:3 21MP always. I want the most clarity I can get.

Most of my pictures either end up on Instagram (just newly allowed wide-screen photos, but I still prefer the 4:3) or on Facebook. I'll use the 21MP 4:3 primarily as well, especially if I'm planning on printing the photos in the future
