[Q] AIO Wireless on CM10.2 - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am running an interesting setup now where I am running a rooted and unlocked CM10.2 nightly with the GSM bit flipped and an AIO Wireless sim card. There are a few quirks that I have come across and trying to look for answers.
First:
I've had some difficulty getting my APN settings to save
Fixed using a build.prop change a few reboots.
Second:
I have an issue where my DTMF (touch tone) doesn't seem to be registering. Normally this wouldn't be a problem except for when I needed to call my insurance and they have an automated system. I don't know if this is a rom specific thing, an AIO Wireless specific thing or something else with the combination on my phone.
Third:
Since I've been running on GSM, the signal strength for my phone doesn't seem to be displaying properly. The phone works (and now I get internet), but the signal indicator doesn't seem to update. I use Lllama for some things and I see no new tower locations here either.
Fourth:
In Settings -> About phone -> Status -> My phone number is displaying as "Unknown." Not that big of a deal but I thought it was an interesting thing and wanted to see if it may be tied to any of the other issues I'm having.
If anyone has any insight on how to fix these things, that would be great appreciated and hopefully this can help any other people who may be having the same issues as me.

I'm using my Razr in GSM mode with CM10.2 on it. I'm in Italy, so maybe not everything I've done will work in other countries.
What did you changed to make the phone work in GSM mode? I just changed the following in the build.prop file (plus adding the APN):
"telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=1" from 1 to 0
"telephony.rilV7NeedCDMALTEPhone=true" from true to false
"ro.telephony.gsm-routes-us-smsc=1" from 1 to 0
And everything works fine.
I've also tried to use the GSM fix found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446527, but is giving to me inconsistent results. Sometimes the phone works, sometimes drops the line, swithc from 3g to 2g, stops data download... So I flasher back a clean 10.2 ROM and added back only my previous changes.
By the way: in Settings -> About phone -> Status -> My phone number is displaying as "Unknown" too!

That totally worked! Now I have everything working properly. Thank you very much. Also, I figured out why in Status my phone number is unknown.
Open up the Phone app
Open the Settings menu
GSM call settings
Additional settings
Set your number in "My phone number"

Well... that's great: two solutions in two posts! Your phone is working and mine is displaing my number correctly... Hope these posts will be useful for someone else too!

Sorry for somewhat thread-hijacking, but you seem to know GSM stuff so I thought I'd ask, do you have any problems with making phone calls? I'm in the US on AT&T and when I make a call, if there is any noise coming in from the other person's microphone (either their voice or background noise),my voice starts breaking up on their end. I can hear them fine though.
I've tried several build.prop edits, such as changing persist.audio.handset.mic to 'analog' instead of 'digital', which makes my voice louder to others, but doesn't help with the audio breaking up. Do you know of any build.prop tweaks that might fix the issue? Thanks!

Hi Phantomsniper! Sorry for the late reply... to be honest I'm pretty new to the Android world (less than a year, coming from a Nokia 3310!). Maybe I've a similar issue: I can hear people fine (after cleaning the speaker), but on the other side they always say that my voice sounds too low (but not broken up for what I know). I'll try to investigate if my phone behaves as yours and if there's something we can do!

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Few things I noticed since my last post:
1) If I use headphones with a mic to talk, everything sounds perfect on both ends
2) When testing the bug, if I mute the other person's phone (so I can't hear what they say) then everything I say into the Razr M is clear on their phone
3) Speakerphone works fine
4) Sound problems occur with a T-Mobile SIM and perhaps a Verizon SIM too (I couldn't really test much with the VZW SIM because it was my friend's and she was in a rush so I just tried it for a minute)
I think basically, if any sound is coming through from the earpiece (the one that is right where the "MOTOROLA" logo is), then the microphone that is under the Verizon logo turns off or gets quiet or something. That would explain why speakerphone and using a headphone's mic works fine.
I don't want to get too off-topic here though. Perhaps we should talk over PMs if we find anything new.

Phone freezing

Hi,
I have a big problem with my Tytn (sorry if this is already been posted). Quite often the phone freezes, making it impossible to turn on again. The only thing that works is a soft-reset. What is worse, is that when the phone is in this state, although the green light is regularly flashing, it is unable to get phone calls even if the caller gets the normal ringing signal. No trace is left of the call, neither in calls list! This is a really serious issue: please, let me know if you have an idea of how to solve the problem.
Thanks!
I am having the same issue. I haven't been able to isolate it. I was havign to0 restart 1-2 times a day. Same systems press the power button nothing. Lights blinking everything looks ok. but nothing on the screen. and i miss calls. really pain in the ass. I loaded mobile secretary and it hasn;t locked in a day or two which is odd.
I also sometimes have to rpess the power button two times for it to wake
me too
It's happening to me too. I will lose service and the phone doesn't go out and poll automatically when service should be good. It may show 1, 2, 3 bars then when I try to make a call it hangs, and then get an x and a Y!, then searches for service. I have the GSM only hack installed and the activesync workaround and it still does this. It is not useable as a phone.
do a search in this forum.

With all due respect, there is no solution where the link leads to.
I am having the GSM problem also. Just from time to time I am noticing an exclamation mark near the 'antennae' icon in the top bar. When I tap it, I read 'Service unavailable' in the balloon. From that point I may either soft-reset, or switch GSM flight mode on and off, which brings the PIN code keyboard and the phone works again.
I really don't think it is related to power saving, as it happened a few times in the car with TyTN on external power.

I think warmkiwi's link may be relevant to jimwormold's original post, which may not be related to your and angled1's problem of failing to poll correctly after dropping it's signal.
Mike
yes, it was. sorry, i should have quoted the original author (jimwormold)
well, sorry for being so picky on you :|
Now when we have defragmented the conversation I wonder if the GSM problem is reported more widely? and what is supposed to do in order to isolate the problem and fix it...?

Sorry to do a "me too" posting, but I experience the exact same symptoms. There is no obvious pattern to when this happens, but it is a major problem, as there is no way (other than trying to switch it on) to distinguish whether the phone is working or not at any given moment.
I am running the latest (South African) ROM on my Vario II.

Given this thread now appears to have two distinct issues running together I better be clear that I am referring to the lock-up/freezing issue not the dropped GSM signal issue!!
To be honest there are quite a few possible causes for the freezing issue(s). I would suggest searches and the wiki on such things as (and you may or may not have tried some already):
1. Use of a Task Manager to properly shut running programmes otherwise they contiue to run in the background
2. Proper shutting down of Active Sync in addition to any task manager you may have, as it can re-start itself automatically (particularly overnight. Look for the "Fake Server Trick")
3. Always shut down Wifi when not in use (vital particularly overnight but also good practice to avoid lock ups)
4 For overnight and possibly other quiet times you can consider having your device automatically perform a soft reset to clear any running programmes that may block alarms/receipt of mail etc. Look for such things as xbar or SK schema

Yes indeed, although I think that both: a Phone App problem, and a GSM signal problem, are indeed the same, maybe only differently percepted and described by users affected.
I need ActiveSync to be running in order for DirectPush to work. If it conflicts with the phone, it makes the device unusable concerning push email functionality.

I agree they may be cause and effect for some folks. Although I don't believe we can say that all the freezing and lock-ups are due to dropped GSM signal and freezing when failing to re-establish it. The items I list either taken together or individually have been found by others to work in some cases.
I appreciate that if you require Active Sync running then this is not a solution for you. I think the issue of crashing on loss of signal requires more analysis and I'm not aware of much discussion of it - though I could be wrong!!

I was fiddling with the phone yesterday and today, and I have a hypothesis that my problem is related to PIN entry screen that won't pop up but is silently awaiting a PIN underneath.
I was trying to ucheck the "Require PIN when phone is used" box in Settings but with no luck, my PIN is then refused with "Unknown SIM Error" message. Maybe it wants a PUK but I don't have it on hand to try.
My plan now is to:
- uninstall all Phone-related applications (PhonePlus, Dark_Blue Buttons, EZDial),
- request PUK from my office and try to uncheck the box,
- try prepaid SIM card which has no PIN
To observe symptoms I need two-three days, so I will rather not be posting until solid data is collected.
ps Mike, it is a pleasure to be on a board with people like you.

I'm on day 2 of my replacement phone from Cingular and the problem with losing gsm signal is non existent. The problem was hardware and fixed by calling and getting a warranty replacement phone. I'll let you know if the problem returns. Oh, and I have not been using the gsm only hack. I'm trying to see if the phone will work as designed first.

Good news - hope it continues to work well.

I am reporting from the test field that my problem persists, despite uninstalling all phone-related extenders.
I have noticed that freezing is paired with disabling Bluetooth. So after switching the phone off (flight mode on) and back on (flight mode off), I also have to turn on Bluetooth.
EDIT: I was grounded for last few days at home and freezing problem was not occuring. I am now thinking that it may be related to switching band between GPRS and UMTS. My next step will be disabling UMTS for good. It saves a whole lotta battery, by the way. I am for the third day mostly on standby, with a few calls made, and I am still on 70%! (no 3G in the area)
I have contacted my vendor and asked about replacement policy, they are "checking this with the importer". It's a beauty of living in not-so-western country. Poland is the name.

I'm having exactly the same problem, very annoying because the staus LEDs keep blinking as normal. I too think the problem is UMST-GPRS switching related, as I also have problems when phoning while I drive with my car from a UMTS enabled into a GPRS only zone. The voice call is interupted and I get a loud noise, sounding like a scrambled voice, on both sides of the connection. At home my UMTS signal is very weak, so I think it happens when I move around the house to a place where the TyTN switches to GPRS.
I've put my TyTN to "GSM network" only now to see if this helps, but I use UMTS frequently so this is no long term solution for me.

Hi,
mine was siffering of freezing issue, I sent a mail to HTC support, they don't know about it but the guy said me that I must to hard reset my device. Then no more freezes, I will keep testing it.
Regards,

BTW: I changed my old and almost destroyed SIM card by a new one.

Couple of Bugs...

Few issues...
1. This one has never been addressed... Even with my G2, and with vibration set to always, my phone never vibrates for incoming texts, MMS's or emails. How do I make this work? I have yet to use an Android ROM, even stock out of the box with the phone, where this works.
2. From time to time, T-Mobile is replaced with (No Service) on the lock screen, even though I have service. This also happened with my G2.
Both issues seem to be a bug with Android, probably at the kernel level. Anyone know of a fix?

Thanks. Point 1's link seems to be for actual signal drops, which I don't really have, and plus I'd rather use 4G not 2G...
Your No Service issue is probably because you have your phone set to WCDMA Only instead of GSM/WCDMA auto. When the 3G signal is not present there is no GSM/Edge signal for your phone to fall back on.

Calls going straight to vm and sms delayed

Hi
I have just recently flashed my sprint phone to virgin mobile. Everything is working well except I am noticing some issue which may or may not be related to flash.
If i dont use my phone for while, some people may complain their calls going directly to vm without even a single ring. Even the sms are not being recieved either, but when i try to dial a number, then all the sms would show up coming all at same time with the original timestamp and after that phone would be working fine until I guess I leave it alone for some time.
Right after i ported the epic to virgin mobile, I also upgraded to Clean GB latest ROM. I dont know if the issue is related to ROM itself or maybe a network issue with Virgin Mobile.
The fact that when people call me and it goes directly to vmail, makes me suspect it could be network issue but sms getting the original timestamps making me believe it might have got to phone but never notified on screen.
Couple of years ago, i had same issue on Touch pro phone with Sprint and I remember going to a hidden menu and changing a value of how often the phone could poll the towers of any activity ...
Does anybody have any insight what might be happening. Beside this issue the phone is working in perfect order.
Thanks

This is SUPER interesting! Love every second of it. I've been meaning to write this same exact issue but I thought everyone would think I'm coo-coo. I'm glad you stepped up and said the issue. I don't have call problems I don't think, but I feel like text messages sometimes don't ever go through or get received. If only delivery reports worked for us on Virgin Mobile, and I'd have better insight. I think my issue may just be my crappy signal. Mind checking your cell standby under battery usage, click on it to see your time without signal? I hope to help you resolve your issue and learn along the way on how to improve on my own.

I have good signal all the time.I think it is more related to tower polling having maybe different setting. As long as i keep using the phone, everything works perfect, but if the phone goes for sleep for long time, then the problem starts to happen. I might call vm and talk to tech because they have setting in their system where they can increase the time before the calls goes to voicemail, it might work or maybe not.
Let me know if you do something and find fix for it.
I did some tinkering and found the setting i need to modify is
Slot Cycle Index & ACCOLC Setting . I have to find menu to perform that setting.
the next troubleshooting i need to perform is maybe prl file.
found accolc setting under ##3282# and advanced and last entry is accolc. It is value from 2-9. 2 being shortest and phone polls tower more quickly but it is also issue of battery tradeoff.
I switched mine to 2 and will run the test.
Also gonna put the sprint prl and see if that makes any difference.
I had the same exact issue for almost a month. The fix was super easy. There is a glitch that came with the EL30 update that causes a force close from the "reject with" if you have more than 5 reject messages. I only had 5 but the fix seemed to work regardless. All I had to do was go to menu, settings, call settings, reject with, and then menu button and I deleted all of my reject with messages. Then I reboot my phone and I was now receiving calls just as I used to before the update. Haven't had a chance to see if txt messages are working yet.

Trouble with phonecalls

Im in Norway with Telenor subscription. When my Edge+ is LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) Im experiencing several issues:
1. During phonecalls:
- Several times during a call, I can hear the other party, but they can not hear me for several seconds
- The sound become "static", and the phonecall ends.
2. During browsing:
- Page never loads
I cant find any system in these problems, they can happen in places with good reception, or it can be during driving (handsfree).
But all these issues disappear if I set the phone in 2G only, then everything is working perfectly.
What I've tried:
- Reset APN
- Enter APN manually
Any suggestions?
I'm in Norway too but with NetCom. I've used my wife's Telenor SIM card in my Edge+ a few times, not really noticed any difference except for slightly worse sound during calls. Har du ringt Telenor?
I have the same problem. Are you rooted by any chance and have recently installed viper4android?

Hmm... I'm rooted and have Viper. Are you locked to Telenor? If not, try and loan a Netcom/Djuice/Chess/whatever SIM card and test - at least then you should definitely know if it's a device problem or a Telenor problem.
What's your signal strength (Settings>About phone>SIM card status)?

I'm not locked, so I will try a simcard from a different operator. When I have auto connect (LTE, 3g 2g) its constantly shifting between H and H+.
Where I'm now, the signal strengt is stable on -51 dBm 31 asu (Mobile network type EDGE).
Switching to (LTE, 3G, 2G) its -65 dBm 24 asu (Mobile network type LTE)
I can confirm having the same issue #2 as OP in Sweden with Halebop as my carrier, but I only got it once and since then there has been several security updates so I though this issue was one of the things fixed (thanks Samsung for not supplying a proper changelog)
I've just tried with two Telenor SIM cards from my wife and son - both work fine. I'd contact Telenor again and ask for real help... Their customer service is dreadful, that's why I switched to NetCom. Lykke til?

I sometimes have the same problem. Called my service provider (Telenor) today. They are going to send me a new SIM-car, going to se if thats help, and Im going to test with anoter service providers SIM-card
Got the new SIM-card last week.. Same problem, people people can't hear me for 3-10 seconds several times during a phonecall. And data seems to "hang" from time to time. Tried a full factory reset this weekend, so are going to test more next week. And then try a Netcom SIM-card

Just to recap
I returned the phone, and I just got an email from the repairs workshop saying it was a warranty. I dont know if I get a new phone, or if they have repaired the old one.
update: got an email from repairs workshop. They did a network calibration and "reinstalled software". After that they tested the phone OK. I think I will get the phone this week.
I have same problem now, only work on 2g. When on 3g phonecalls hanging all the time.

Same problem here.
In general, the problem is not with the sim card neither phone hardware. The problem usually is with any app that we have installed. To ensure this, switch on the phone in SAFE MODE ( safe mode temporally turns off all user-installed apps). To do that:
1. Switch off the phone
2. Wait at least 1 minute
3.Press and hold volume down button AND the power button
4.Once screen lights up, you can release power button but you should NOT release the volume down button
5. Hold the volume down button until you get the lock screen
You will notice there is a Safe mode icon in bottom left of the lock screen.
Now try to do some phone calls and accurate if the phone call sound is ok. If so, you must uninstall all your apps and discover which one is making this problem

Are you talking seriously?? First of all, I think that finding out that the problem isn't neither from sim card or hardware, is a great new, and now you are asking which app YOU have installed is the problematic?! Lol ok, I suppose to believe you're naïve and I can help a bit...
It is not necessarily only one or the same app for both. Sometimes can be one in conflict with another also installed, one in conflict with the specific firmware of each one or one of several app's with low maturity (you can check it in Google play). I can give you an idea: for instance, periscope app is very problematic in android. But there are a lot of a lot problematic app's. So, as they are so much, there is only a solution if you don't have an idea: uninstall all of them ( phone hard reset preferably) and after this, install one by one manually (not restore any backup cause the errors come again). After each app installation, make some calls to check any call sound problem. When you notice the problem in call sound, the cause is in the last app that you've installed immediately before this. For next time, check with attention after installing any app if any problem appear and never install several app's in the same time to have time to notice problems in a narrow way...
Anyway, you can write here your conclusions
voilà

Ability to make/receive phone calls has stopped

Hi, I made some calls yesterday, woke up this morning and am unable to make or receive calls.
I've cleared the cache on the stock dialer app, installed another dialer, reset the network, but nothing so far has worked.
MMS and Data works fine, I also had my provider check the sim and it was fine on their end, I just cannot make phone calls. Has anyone come across this and can chime in?

Hi, this may or may not have anything to do w/ it but I have experienced this. What happened was I'm a little nervous about the 3g getting shut down & since no volte button like the v30 I was trying different things and to see if my phone would work I flipped the setting to turn off 2g, everything seemed fine or so I thought because I mostly text on this phone, don't care who calls & I don't call out often. When I realized I couldn't make or receive calls I switched the 2g back on & it worked immediately. I know that I as well as others I'm sure end up realizing random things in their settings are all screwed up, 1,2 or more & never changed that particular setting etc so just in case it's something to check out & see. It's under mobile network & the only toggle right there. Just in case u might still need help.
