For the USB debugging menu go to settings / about phone and click on build number like 7 times. That will enable developer options. There you will find the USB debugging option.

*sigh* This is the height of sillyness... What's next?
Galaxy Note 4: To enable debugging on the new-new Note 4 you'll need to -
1. Place phone on 33° surface
2. Insert S-Pen into headphone port
3. Click Volume Up and Down 6 1/2 times
4. Whistle dixey
NOTE: Must be completed after midnight, or your Note 4 will revert to a Note 3 and start cloning rabid versions of itself
btw - thx apascual89 for the help on the Note 3 tho, it worked. :good: Now TB is happy to backup!
p.s. I knew something was up when that new search function with settings wasn't finding any hits or partial hits on any of the developer settings i'm used to seeing (at first I thought it had just been moved or maybe relabeled)

Hi Guiz, So you all probably have heard this a million times but i have tried every i can to fix this. I have tried many options such as Deleting and re-installing the drivers, trying a different usb port 2.0 and 3.0 I have restored my phone. And my phone only comes up as PTP Camera which is useless since i cant root my N4. This problem occured after i updated to Android 4.3. So my question is how can i make my N4 show up as MTP Storage?
I'm running on Windows 8. Thanks in advance.

1 quick Forum search would easily have solved this for you.
But since you're here:
1. Enable USB debugging: Go to phone settings -> About -> Tap build number repeatedly until developer menu is enabled. Go there and tick USB debugging.
2. On your PC, go to your device manager (when the Phone is plugged in and set to MTP), locate the phone, right click on it -> properties
3. go to the Driver tab
4. click Update Driver
5. click Browse my Computer for driver software
6. click Let my pick...
7. select USB Composite Device
8. finish up with the assistant
9. be happy

Today i've got my new Nexus 4, succesfully unlocked & rooted with this toolkit, but had problems with installing google usb drivers and Universal Adb Driver.
The solution is based on several steps.
I solved my problem this way, hope it will help someone
I have windows 8.1 64-bit, so i had to solve firts the problem with driver signature
1.
How To Disable And Bypass Driver Signature Enforcement In Windows 8
Tutorial link
Tutorial video
If you have problems with driver installations, try this:
2.
Remove hidden existing Nexus 4 or Android Nexus ADB Interface in Device Manager
i had to cleanup the drivers remained after few failed adb driver installations because of the problem in the first step
- (OPTIONAL) Install Nexus Root Toolkit and run it
- (OPTIONAL) click on Full Driver Installation Guide and at step 1
- open Device Manager, click View and select the option Show hidden devices
- now you will see some additional hidden devices (greyed out)
- because i wanted to install the drivers from start i deleted them, that means uninstalled them and added checkmark for deleting local files
- screenshot is attached so you can better understand
Remove the devices that could make problems
3.
- Run Nexus Root Toolkit
- click on Full Driver Installation Guide
- at Step 1 open USBDeview
- in my situation i deleted all the entries with google name
- screenshot in the attach
Final step:
4.
Install drivers for Nexus 4
- Run Nexus Root Toolkit
- click on Full Driver Installation Guide
- at Step 2 i installed Solution #1 - Universal drivers
- maybe you'll need to manually add drivers, if you have an entry in Device Manager that as yellow !
- right click on it - update drivers - browse my computer for drivers - I've added the path to installed Solution #1 - Universal drivers
"C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver"
- i repeated it for connection as mtp, ptp and none of that - selection for this is made on nexus: settings - storage - ... in the right upper corner - usb computer connection. so this way the device had installed the needed drivers
- screenshot is added in attach
I've used Wugs Toolkit for installing drivers and after that unlocking and rooting the Nexus 4.
My problem was that there was present HIDDEN ADB Interface under Android Device, after above mentioned steps, my nexus is working properly when connected as MTP device

The device won't show up in "my computer" on windows 8.1. USB debugging was enabled too. Tried on 2 different PCs.The device is getting charged though.
Also, the developer options are missing from settings menu, it is shown only when the usb cable is connected.
I'm new to PA, sorry if I'm missing something obvious.
Thanks
Fix your drivers.
As for the developer menu, you have to enable it from the about device menu. Tap on build info 7 times

hello, thanks for the reply, got the developer menu. But the MTP was working fine on stock before I switched to PA. I have installed the google USB driver by the way.
Edit: I finally got this.
All I had to do was go to storage under settings---->USB connection----> enable MTP. I don't know why the stock rom never had me do this.
Hi Guys.
I have one Redmi Note 3 and I am having a problem to connect it to my pcs.
Before everything was ok. I connected the USB cable and I could transfer files between my pc and the Redmi Note 3 using My Computer.
Now, I connect the Note 3 and I cannot see the storage anymore. So, it's impossible to copy anything between pc or note 3.
I checked with several cables and different ports and in two different pcs. I cannot connect with MIPC Suite either. The Note 3 recharges normally.
I believe it's a driver version problem.
I am using Windows 10 and MIUI 7.1.6.0 Stable Version.
Thanks for all help.
Check if the drivers are updated to win10
The best way is to download them from miui.com or mi.com

Go to the Setting> Additional Setting and look for the "developer options"
if you cant see that option, go to the Setting> About phone and tap five times on "MIUI version", you'll see a little popup message "you a developer now", then go to Setting> Additional > Developer options and enable "developer options" and "USB debugging"
Hey Guys, even i faced the same problem but it got fixed so easily than i ever thought . As soon as you connect your phone to laptop using data cable, you will find an option called " Touch for more option" in your phone, when you touch on that option, it will prompt you with three option > Charging only , Thasfer files (MTP) and Transfer photos (PTP), when you click on these you will be able to see Internal storage, then you can copy paste whatever files you want Hope it helps.
Even after usb debugging, i can not see the storage in my pc
I had same issue with my Xiaomi Redmi 3s prime as i can not get it to connect to my PC but got it fixed .
1. enable developer option and enable USB debugging
2. reinstall MTP driver on windows using wpdmtp.inf in windows folder while your phone is connected

Enable developer option: go to settings>About Phone and tap MIUI version about 6 times then you will see a pop up notification that you are now a developer.
Enable USB debugging: after enabling developer option you should go to settings>additional settings>Developer options then enable USB debugging
Now connect your xiaomi phone to your PC via USB cable
On your computer go to PC>C drive>windows >INF > and look for wpdmtp.inf (make sure your xiaomi phone is connect via usb) then right click on the file wpdmtp and click install with your phone plugged in.

I checked online and see in storage in the overflow menu when I select it USB computer connection comes up put when I press it I just get a message "USB is now disconnected". Nothing else. How do I reselect MTP again?
Thanks,

Just go to Settings than select Developer Options, scroll down to find Select USB Configuration. It's a long page, so scroll down slowly and carefully.

My developer options doesn't have this setting. I'm not sure how to do a screen shot but under that section is:
On
Development tools
Take bug report
Advanced reboot
Desktop backup password
Stay awake
HDCP checking
Enable Bluetooth HCI snoop log
Process stat
Root access
Updaye Cyanogen recovery.
Then it goes into Debugging.
Should I be looking somewhere else?
Thanks,
I have found that I can't enable Android Debugging which has the switch greyed out.
I see it says in the subheading "Device is in charging mode, USB debugging is disabled".
Maybe if I can enable the debugging somehow I can get the phone out of charge only mode.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
I have found its not actually greyed out. Just not responding to tapping.
Hi see this problem has been mentioned here:
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...sb-debugging-after-upgrading-to-android-5-1-1.
'm trying to find "persist.sys.usb.config" to delete it as a fix but haven't found it yet.
Already tried that. Selecting 'USB Computer Connection' displaying message 'USB is now disconnected' (even when it's not connected to a cable)

Seems like you are using custom ROM, I'm on stock, nothing much I can do to help. Is the driver correctly installed? How did the Windows response to USB connection with USB debugging off? With the USB debugging on, it will ask for authorization when connected. I believe "persist.sys.usb.config" is part of build.prop, so it's kinda risky to play with, but if you manage to find that line (you may simply add # in front of it, just to be safe and in case you need it in the future).
Hi, thanks for your reply.
Windows shows nothing when I plug the phone in. It use to come up with the phone and SD card fine.
I'ts just that I can't turn debugging on. I'll have a look in build.prop and try the #
Thanks,
Any ideas where I put the #? I have attached the build.prop file.
Thanks,
Hey,
When you connect the Note 3 to a PC you can change the USB interface from Meda devide (MTP) to Media device (USB 3.0). I was wondering if there's a way to set the USB 3.0 option as default.
Thanks!
in "developer options" menu you can configure the default behave of USB connection.

That option in developer menu will only give you choice between MTP, PTP, USB Charge only. This is not what you are seeking for.
If i remember well, there is a ServiceMode code that let you force the usb connection protocol and behavior.
Try *#0808# or look for the correct one using Phone Info app.

Lollipop I assume? I can't find it, and I'm on Kitkat.
Besides, you still don't have the option to set USB 3.0 as the standard way of connecting. Or does it do that automatically in Lollipop?
