Is there any way to turn off or disable all WiFi network notifications? I'm constantly clearing things about available open networks, and also when I connect to WiFi.
The only option I found is in the WiFi settings as "Notify Me - Tell me if Wi-Fi is available when I open an app", which I've turned off.

Did you ever find a solution to this? It's driving me crazy on the Verizon model.
Nope. Still can't find a solution.

What's wrong with that solution? I go into wifi, menu, advanced, and unchecked wifi notifications. Am I missing something?

I don't see any notifications setting in WiFi advanced menu, just the one in the main WiFi settings about if an app is open. Screenshot?

Which version do you have? On the Verizon version unchecking wifi notifications in settings doesn't get rid of the notification. It only gets rid of an extra irritating popup every time you open an app.
The only way I've found to get rid of the notification is to leave wifi turned off. Not sure if that's what Verizon intended to encourage me to do, but since I'm on unlimited data I'm guessing probably not. I won't feel too bad about staying off of wifi and eating up their data until they fix it though. There's no excuse for cluttering up the notification area with constant notifications about nothing, with no way to disable them.
edit - Oh I see. You have AT&T and they're more sensible about it than Verizon.
So, no answer to this on the Verizon phone?? I am hoping a custom ROM will fix this annoying issue. Yes, Verizon, I know I am connected to my wireless network. That thing drives me crazy!! As noted above I have also been leaving my wifi off and just using my Unlimited data. Max to date is 23 Gig in a month!! Eat it VZW!!

Obviously you don't have a LG G2 on Verizon :good:
Notification bar. "A Wi-Fi Network is available" or some crap. This is a VS980 problem. Was a Spectrum. Is a Note 3 problem. All Verizon. Never found a solution.

what about moding we have root here change software .. come oon guys .. is it so hard ? this is xda with so many options .. get custom rom then jeezz or just root and check build.prop editor
No one's offered an alternative through modding as far as I've seen. How about this, if it's not that hard, YOU fix it and hand over the mod. Not everyone wants a custom ROM with how well stock runs. They never work 100%. So give up IR (ect) for no Wi-Fi notification bug? No thank you. If it was easy as build.prop, would be done. Stop talking out of your ass batterystats.bin guy.

After being annoyed for months I finally got serious about finding a solution. It's actually really easy.
1) Be rooted
2) Install Notifications Off from Play Store (free)
3) Open Notifications Off, scroll down to LGSystemServer, and uncheck it
4) Save
VS980 wifi notifications gone!
Does that kill any other notifications or just the WIFI BS message? Thanks for the find.

There are a lot of battery saving/enhancing apps/tips/tricks out there. Lets get them all together and see how well our batteries perform with every little trick that we have...post em up below and I will update this post with all of them in an organized fashion.
A key to actually noticing and benefiting from enhanced battery is that you cant be messing with your phone constantly to see if anything has changed, must try to maintain normal usage!!!
1. In Phone dial *#*#4636#*#* | Phone information, error popup may appear that is okay, if your preferred network type is GSM auto (PRL) change it to CDMA auto (PRL).
2. In Sound & Display Menu, Uncheck 'Orientation' if unnecessary.
3. In Sound & Display Menu, Uncheck 'Haptic feedback' if unnecessary.
4. In Sound & Display Menu | Brightness, Uncheck 'Auto-brightness" if unnecessary.
5. In Sound & Display Menu | Animation, Set to 'No animations' if unnecessary.
6. In Accounts & sync Menu, Uncheck 'Auto-Sync' and 'Background data' if unnecessary.
7. In Accounts & sync Menu | Facebook for HTC Sense | Account settings, Set to 'Once a day' if unnecessary.
8. In Wireless & networks Menu, Uncheck Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if unnecessary.
9. In Wireless & networks Menu | Wi-Fi settings | Menu | Advanced | Wi-Fi sleep policy, Set to 'Never'.
10. In Wireless & networks Menu | Mobile Networks, Uncheck 'Enable always-on mobile data' if unnecessary.
11. In Language & keyboard Menu | Text Input, Uncheck 'Vibrate when typing' if unnecessary.
12. Download Autostarts, check out the help tab in the app to learn how to effectively use.
13. Download SetCPU [HTC EVO beta], check out the help tab in the app to learn how to effectively use.
14. Download Systempanel, check out the help tab in the app to learn how to effectively use.
15. Download Juice Defender, check out the help tab in the app to learn how to effectively use.
16. People widget consumes a great deal of CPU remove it if unnecessary.
17. Don't use LiveWallpapers if unnecessary.
18. Make sure Gtalk is not automatically signing in if unnecessary.
19. Remove HTC LockScreen and HTC sense, Use LauncherPro2 or or AWDLauncher
20. Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more, Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour, Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour.
You could sum up your list by just saying... TURN OFF EVERYTHING THAT MAKES THIS DEVICE COOL!
Yeah really, I can see it now...
One of you competitive types, goes head to head with an iPhone user:
EVO user: "Oh yeah? My EVO is better than your iPhone!"
iPhone user: "Prove it!"
EVO user: "I will, but you'll have to wait just a minute, I have to turn everything on... then I can only show you for a second or two because otherwise I will use too much of my precious battery, and I'll have to plug in a little earlier tonight than usual."
hmm, welcome fellas....these are suggestions that can be used in different combination as seen fit by the user...you guys are brilliant.
Because unlike you two who probably post up in front of a TV being worthless all day with your phone plugged in, others are out being productive unable to leave their phones plugged-in in their parents living room!!

Thin-skinned? It's called sarcasm with a hint of jocularity, look it up. And for the record, I haven't lived in my parents' house in 17 years, am an Air Force vet of 14 years, family man with a wife and 2 children, own my own house, and am currently employed as an IT Manager with a six figure salary. So with that in mind, kindly shove your attitude back up your a$$.
Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention, I get a full day's use from 6am-1030ish pm from my EVO, using it regularly as an IT manager would. (i.e. exchange e-mail constantly syncing, RDP, phone calls, etc.)

But seriously, you can take measures to help battery life without crippling your experience. You don't have to do everything, you don't have to do anything. I See what the OP was getting at, all over I see people asking about battery life. You don't have to shut everything down, considering some stuff helps more than others. Some **** isn't even worth turning off.

OP...I appreciate the attempt. I have done a few of those right off the bat. My phone only two hours old and some stuff I know I don't need....like email every 5 minutes or live wallpapers or super bright screen.
I will also be leaving 4G off until I need it...say for video. I am perfectly fine with manually turning it on an off. 3G is dang good for getting emails and most web browsing. I'll be using 4g almost as turbo for now until I figure this machine out.

Yeah and if you put all those quick switches on one of the home screens (like BT, WiFi, 4G, Mobile Network, HotSpot or even Airplane mode) it makes it even easier to flip 4G on/off as well as the other options.

try switch pro widget, it has all those plus more...its in the market
I use a brightness level widget and have the screen set at 25% and now the display is only 9% of battery use. That is bright enough for indoor use. When I had the screen set at 75% brightness, it was using most of the juice.

I don't recommend SetCPU or OC Widget unless you plan to underclock 100% of the time, since the EVO underclocks automatically. You can observe this in SystemPanel.

I was looking at an AT&T Galaxy Note 3 last night as someone was asking some tricks to it. I told them if you turn off your mobile data thru the notification panel you can save a lot of battery loss, so i showed them how quickly they can do that on the S4. I looked at their Galaxy Note 3 and that MOBILE DATA toggle was missing from the page of icons for the Notification Panel.
This is a big one for me before i upgrade to AT&T's latest. I suppose no one knows now if we will see the same icon missing at this time. Just a heads up.

I did when I flashed a 4.3 rom, turning off mobile data was a key tool I use to monitor my phone I don't know why they'd take this step backwards but this was my solution. This app was a great discovery.

Ah OK
As I said, I dont think screenshot is from the North American version; International Note 3 has the toggle
Im gonna wait before updating to 4.3 anyway, it would be pretty stupid to remove it, makes no sense
I have tried two different ROMs based on leaks of MJ6 and both were missing the data toggle. I haven't tried any of the MJ5 versions.

I think saving battery by turning off mobile data will be an individual thing. I ran into issues on my previous Android phone by being too aggressive disabling mobile data with Juice Defender. I discovered that MMS was disabled unless mobile data was turned on, so if you do MMS, remembering to re-enable mobile data could be an inconvenience. And depending on the strength of the mobile data signal, your phone's radio may use more or less power to maintain the connection.
I find I have no battery issues just leaving most everything enabled on my GS4 (data, wifi, gps, gestures, etc.) I don't use many of the smart features, so I switch those off as well as nfc, sbeam and bluetooth.

I think what he is saying is that it looks like ATT may have had it removed. It is not in the 4.3 ATT leaked firmware for the i747 either, and NO option to choose it. So HOPEFULLY it is just due to a leak and not the full OFFICIAL firmware from ATT. Below are the ONLY choices to choose from on the S3 i747 leak. I have already tried the RESET and it is still not there. So it MAY be something ATT is taking out

Wonder what that reading mode does?
My mobile data button also went missing after the 4.3 update. Be that as it may, I wonder what world you guys live in that find a benefit to turning off mobile data? I find no benefit to doing that. Sure can't send MMS if MD is off. And I have yet to have any battery issues that would make me look for ways to stretch my battery life. OEM battery, stock ROM, Nova Prime launcher.

Reading mode changes the white to a more yellow color on apps it's enabled on when the toggle is turned on...you have to go to setting and select apps it effects.
As for the benefit...I like to use it when I'm running low on data...I have a 3gb plan but sadly that's not enough, I often get down to 100 mbs left so turning off data prevents background tasks from using up the last of my data...the main reason I eat up si much data is cause let is faster than any wifi I've ever been connected to...so more often than not I use lte instead of wifi

That, I can understand. But I was under the impression people were turning off data to save battery life, which doesn't make any sense to me (in my world).
I use my MD button to limit my data usage , not to save battery. .. I use that button more than Reading mode.

what's up with business lately, all their upgrades are actually downgrade. has the world spin backward?
How to turn data on/off
Good news is that even with the mobile data button gone from the notification panel, it is still possible to turn the mobile data on/off.
To enable/disable mobile data:
1) Click the gear (Settings)
2) Click "Data Usage"
3) Check/uncheck "Mobile data" box.
Clearly, AT&T wants us to use more data and pay them overage fees or upgrade to a more expensive data plan. That's a pretty cheap trick. With AT&T now offering lower monthly fees when you bring your own phone, my next phone will run stock Android.
sorry, if this has been brought up, I searched, but didn't find any threads.

and after I press "TouchWiz Home" I'd hit "Always" and then I get this:

okay, so I'm there, but I don't see TW to clear
When you press the home button the TW asks you to set Just once/ Always yes? -- if you choose always it should store it in there as a default. -
OK, try settings > general > application manager > choose ALL then scroll down to TW - choose TouchWiz Home - It should show 850KB or so in size, If not clear cache then clear data, hit force stop, reboot your phone and see if it stores the data this time.

Ok for some bizarre reason it isn't storing local data, I'm at a bit of a loss.
What Model number do you have? and what firmware are you running? - rooted also? any mods installed recently or other launchers?
when you went to cache, did it show 850kb or so in the app itself? as if it was storing the data at all?
You could try a factory reset. I know it isn't ideal and it bugs me when I have had to do one previously. It may fix it. 9 out of 10 times it does.
EDIT: I'm at work so my replies may be a little sporadic or so, but I'll be around to help.

the number says SM-N900W8, it's running 4.3, NOT rooted, bone stock, no mods... I just got the phone 2 days ago

okay, so I ended up just doing a factory reset... and in the process... there was a system update. I have a feeling when I got the phone at the store, I was flying through the setup process and skipped it. As of right now, it looks like it's working fine :fingers-crossed:
thanks again for all your help... I'm going to pass this along because apparently I wasn't the only one with this issue
Ahh cool, least you got sorted, No problem man. Enjoy the phone

okay... so I wanted to post an update. Truthfully, the issue started up AGAIN! I was sooooo annoyed, I didn't want to post because I figured it was frustrating others reading my issue. Apparently, I wasn't the only person having this issue. I did some search and came across a thread over at Android Central...
here's the thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...lete-action-using-touchwiz-easy-home-huh.html
anyways, the trick is to uninstall the latest version of Google Search update. JUST TO CLARIFY, this does NOT mean you're actually uninstalling Google Search (because, I mean... there's no way I'd ever use Bing or Yahoo search  )
You go to your Google Play Store, search "Google Search" and the app will come up... it's already installed so you'll get the options of "Open" or "Uninstall".... You click on "Uninstall" and ONLY the latest version of Google Search will be uninstalled... Google Now, Google Search WILL still be there... But this issue will be gone
So, needless to say, the latest version of Google Search has some kind of bug with TouchWiz or whatever.
Hope this help others in the future
Yes im having this issue too and reverting back to the older version is the solution. This phone has given me many bugs. Totally aint worth the money.

I had this problem and then removed the updates. However, I now see a new update for Google Search dated January 9, 2014. Has anyone tried this update to see if the problem persists?
Maybe tonight I will give it a go.
Thanks
No more touchwiz problem
:good: After upgrading Google Search to the January 9, 2014 yesterday, I have had no more problems with Touchwiz Home stopping notice. It has been about 24 hours since I updated it.
I guess Google resolved the bug.
I'm facing this issue after update to kitkat. I can't uninstall google search update as the version installed in the rom is the last one. Pop up is very boring What can I do ?

Within the past few days I've noticed that me x727's battery has been draining quite a bit faster. Always at the top of the list in battery stats is System Service. I always have location services and Bluetooth disabled. Has anyone had a similar issue and figured out the exact cause?
edit: I just came across this post from someone else who has Mint SIM and they suggested entering the APN values manually instead of using what the network gives your phone automatically. https://community.zteusa.com/thread/13643#74674. So far it seems like phone is holding a data connection immediately after Wi-Fi disconnect, but time will tell how battery life will be.
edit 2: manually setting the apn values using what Mint Sim provides on their website has completely foxed the issue! My battery life is back to normal and my data connection holds normally again.
I have this exact same problem, but with location services on. Also, I had Android OS draining the battery. I don't know what is causing these issues. Hope someone can find the problem.
Habe also problems with System Services

Swipe away settings on recents
After one month without reboot or switch off the phone also i had the same problem: reboot the phone twice helped me.
Same issue here, System Service is about 50-70% of values of screen (e.g. if screen is 40%, System Service is 20-28%)
A reboot or swiping away settings don't seem to help for me.
Same here. I did rebooting the phone twice and swipe away settings does not seem to help, too.
- So enable background resource control if you disabled it before via *#46360000#*#*
- Limit the apps (particularly LeEco apps) running on start-up via Permissions setting
- Limit the apps showing notifications via Notification management

Disabling the background resource control cause the System service and Android OS to ramp up? I disable it, because of notification issues with gmail, whatsapp, hangout, and outlook mail. Notification only works when I open the app. Other than that, notification never works.

Really? Did you change any setting in the phone manager app or something like power saving management, auto launch, align wakeup, etc? Or you leave everything alone as default? I had this issue since 19s. Lol. I might be missing something.

I made sure the apps that send notification will auto-launch (Permissions menu) and they can notify (Notifications Management menu) and Important Notice star enabled as well. Google sync should be enabled under Account Management and some apps like Gmail have Sync options that should be enabled as well.
Align Wakeup and Ultra Long Standby both disabled and mine is running stock 21S.
And oh notifications are also coming thru my Gear Fit2 for convenience. =D

Thanks for the help. I recently change the setting and will test it for a couple of days.
Edit: I test the notification after making some changes on what you did. The notification works, but it's 15 minute delay. It's not an instant. Is this normal?

Its common issue if you browse various forums, many users with many different devices has this issue. Ofcourse google could optimise system better, but 90% of times its due to user configuration/buggy apps. First thing i would do is turn off backup under settings and location history.

It does seem to be a common issue from what i've found in my own research, however the issue seems to have gotten a lot worse on my device in the past few weeks for an unknown reason.

I can guarantee you its your configuration fault. Its either buggy app, a buggy app or data restore, or buggy system service not letting device sleep properly. As i said earlier, i would start by disabling backup under settings, also location history reporting. Thats 2 things known to cause these problems. If that doesnt help would start looking into apps, 1 by 1. Safest way is to just clean flash or factory reset, then turn off backup and location history, and before installing any app or backup, i am 100% sure, the phone will sleep as a baby. Then start installing apps and look for culprit if its there.
I can confirm, that disabling location service (and location history) is a solution for battery draining. When I disable it in system settings, problem gone.
Hey guys,
I use textra as my standard messaging app. It seems like it gets cut off on the s8's display, not going all the way to the top. It leaves a black space between the top of the app and the notification bar. Not sure if this is a textra issue that needs to get updated or an app viewing setting somewhere in the s8 that I'm missing. Either way it sure would be nice if that dead space went away lol
Anybody know any tricks?
Cheers!
Edit: Apps this happens in I've found so far
Textra
theChive
Various banking apps
I'm thinking it's something with the individual apps not being able to display in a certain aspect ratio? Dunno.
A little extra testing showed that this is independent of launcher used. I didn't think it would have an effect but figured I would give it a shot anyways. I used the google now launcher with no difference.
Try Settings, display, full screen apps. Toggle the individual program to be full screen. Should solve the problem.

Problem solved! No idea why this is an option I need to check. Bought the phone for a full screen, why would i not wanna utilize that full screen? lol
Programs aren't made to this aspect ratio yet. There could be glitches. You choose full screen you deal with the consequences.

Have you noticed when you receive a text message and you click on it from the notification screen it makes you swipe to open still? I have the AT&T version and this annoys me.
Like any notification you tap it and instead of opening the phone it goes to a blurry screen and makes you swipe again.
yeah, I wish apps went all the way by default when you install them, and if they don't work that way, I can go in an turn off. I have to go in and turn them all on at the beginning which is annoying.

I just watched your video closely. So you are talking about opening the textra message from the lock screen by double tapping? yeah, mine makes me unlock the phone too. I have iris scanner and FP setup. so if I double tap the message from the lockscreen, I have to unlock the phone first to see it or reply to it. I think that's pretty standard.
You can setup reply boxes on the lock screen. I haven't played with it much but I think it'll let you reply with a locked phone. Check out the heads up floating notification section under "when locked"

did you not have lockscreen security setup on your pixel? I know on my OnePlus One running 7.1.2, if I don't have any lockscreen security (just set to swipe), I can do what you are trying to do. But I think anytime you setup a pin, pattern, fp, etc., you have to insert in those unlocking methods first.
OR, did you have some kind of smart unlock setup on your Pixel that you haven't on your S8 yet? like proximity (home), connection (bluetooth or wifi), etc?
