Recovery access? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

N00B G2 user here, have TWRP flashed but how do I boot to recovery? Holding down power and VOL- does not do the trick!

Use an app like Flashify or GooManager
Eventually a dev will build it into his/her ROM..

I thought you werent suppose to use the hardware buttons to get into recovery. I use the "Quick Boot" app

You can use a Rom managed to do it

If, for some reason, you cannot boot into your device, it is quite useless to have an app that boots you to recovery if you cannot get to it, no?

YOU MUST HAVE LATEST RECOVERY INSTALLED. 2.6.3.2!
press and hold Power and Vol- until see the LG logo, after you see the logo release buttons for 1 second then press and hold Power and Vol- again until you see the factory reset screen, just push power to confirm reset, it will prompt you twice, just continue and this will boot you into recovery.

stuck on ubuntu

kindly anyone plz tell me how to go into android from ubuntu?? its urgent :crying: detailed procedure..please
just wipe and flash an android rom or restore a backup.
recovery
how to enter recovery mode or fastboot??
Restore your nandroid backup
recovery
i'm unable to enter fasboot/recovery mode... vol down +power button combination not working
hold the power button for 10-30 seconds.
then turn it on again if it doesn't turn itself on again.
I found that shutting down Ubuntu took a LONG time of holding down the power button. You might just be putting it to sleep, not fully powering it off.
Then hold VOL- and PWR to get back to fastboot/recovery.
edit---
Oh wait... what device are you using? I have a nexus 4. If you have a Galxy Nexus... you can pull the battery.
I've heard that Ubuntu touch has ADB access, if that's the case you could connect via ADB and do adb reboot bootloader or recovery .
As a new user you really should steer clear of these alpha builds unless you know all recovery methods and the ins/outs of the phones fastboot and recovery methods.
You can use fastboot to flash stock Android again

Thanks friends... Holding power button for long done the trick... Entered recovery and flashed nandroid...

In Developer options, enable the Advanced Reboot.
The 3 button combo will work, it's just a matter of timing. Remove and replace the battery, hold vol up + home, then power, holding all three, and when it vibrates, let go of power only.
You could also hook up in USB Debugging mode and issue the command:
adb reboot recovery
And if you don't have a developer option go into about phone and tap build number 7 times.

Some people, including myself, cannot get it to work with the standard procedure...the solution is to basically do it twice. Here's a copy/paste of the instructions:
Long press the power button and choose "power off". Give your phone a few seconds to turn off completely. Once it's off, press and hold these 3 buttons at the same time: POWER+VOLUME UP+HOME. Look at the top left of the screen - as soon as you see little blue text saying entering recovery, let go of all buttons immediately...but be ready...if your phone vibrates (it might be trying to reboot normally again), press and hold those same buttons again until you see the blue text again...then let go immediately. Now you will see your recovery!

Cool
CWM recovery only requires you to push the volume up key and then press the power key until the phone vibrates and then let go of the power button only. When the blue lettering appears, let go of the volume up. The home button should only be required with TWRP.

Whatever the reason, that is not the case with my phone and many others. I've read several threads of people having the same issue. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the OUDHS CWM w/ auto-loki or what.
I've never heard of letting go of the power button only while still pressing volume up, but I gave it a try just to see...it did get me into CWM recovery but only after doing it twice, similar to the method I wrote above.
I have tried letting go of both volume up and power (no pressing home at all) and never found a way to get into recovery.
Anyways, it seems there's no harm in pressing the home button either way and it's probably easier than letting go of the power button and still holding volume up...and easier to explain too lol.

You need to read... Seriously, you are going to brick your phone. Do not try to install any custom recovery or ROM of any kind on MF3.
Why can't people read?

My minor issue is that when I boot to recovery (twrp) it get to the twrp splash screen then freeze. Takes me another reboot or two before recovery really launches.
Tried reinstalling recovery and fixing permission, etc.. but same deal. Anyone have thoughts on this?
I boot into recovery all the time but I have to hold volume up and home button.
Bump!
I'm having the same issue. What I did was that I had the CWM recovery installed and tried to reset the flash counter. Now the phone won't boot into the recovery, it just boots up as usual when I press vol up+home+power up. I appreciate any help! :/

Can you get the blue text in the upper left corner of the screen to appear at any time?
In my case, trying to get into recovery via the 3 buttons is a matter of very precise timing if I try pressing all 3 buttons at the same time. The instant I see the blue text I let go of everything and it works. Hold it for even a fraction of a second longer and the blue disappears and it goes into a normal boot. It works much better if I press Vol Up, then add Power, then add Home. I'm doing that sequence fairly quickly but the point is I'm not trying to press 3 buttons at the exact same time.
But I'm using CWM so I don't need the 3rd button...
From a powered-down state I hold Vol Up then Power and hold both through the vibration until the blue text appears and it goes into CWM recovery just fine. There seems to be a bit more leeway in terms of how fast you need to let go this way although I just tested and holding about a half second too long caused it to bounce out of recovery and do a normal boot. Let go immediately when you see the blue.
Phone won't boot..
So after using CASUAL, my phone rebooted, and got stuck on the splash screen with RECOVERY BOOTING.. in the top left corner. I pull the battery, try to do a normal reboot; takes me to the same screen. Trying the 3 button combo for recovery; same thing. Any suggestions?? I am NOT on MF3 Firmware.
**EDIT** Should have looked into it more before posting, but Found my solution returning to STOCK
im having the same problem.. i rebooted using ROM MANAGER and the android with red exclamation mark appeared... when i hold de buttons, there are blue letters, but the recovery mode dont work, just the android recovery...

If you are rooted, Titanium Backup, Goo Manager, Power Reboot...These are all applications in the Play Store. As far as using the buttons, I am sure they have worked out the issues using the hardware buttons, but I don't do it that way. Hope this helped!!
For TWRP press and hold the power and volume down button. When the LG logo pops up let go for a second and press the combo again. You'll be prompted to press the power button 3 times to wipe the device. Then It'll boot into TWRP without wiping.

Flash back to stock is the only solution. Been there done that. After you get rooted and newest twrp you won't have to worry again going forward.

If you have the Verizon version, do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448960
If you have any other version (AT&T, ect), do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
thank you so much for your fast reply.
what I need and meant by recovery mode is where i can format the rom and restore the factory setting when i fail to log in the operating system ( usually was VOLUME DOWN AND POWER BUTTON to get it ) but this method is not working here.

Can anyone tell me what's the deal with twrp recovery with sprint Lg G2.

If I have you is there a method to get Twrp recovery and when I get recovery how do I get in recovery.

LG G2 Rebooting into Recovery
If you have TWRP installed already:
Method 1: In a terminal emulator as root type "reboot recovery"
Method 2: Using an app like Quick Boot
Method 3: Hardware buttons on the G2 - From a power off state hold Power and Volume Down. When you see the LG logo continue holding volume down and release the power button and press it again. It will bring you to a factory reset screen. If you have TWRP installed confirm a factory reset and it will take you to TWRP without wiping your device. If you do not have TWRP installed DO NOT DO THIS if you want to keep your data.
This works on my Verizon G2 but I believe the method is the same for Sprint.
I am so confused OP. What is the problem again? You didn't give any description to the issue or concern.
Doing research I have pre-order ed my G2 I currently have a s3 I do a lot of flashing. I want to be informed on the how to. I used to have a optimus g and I did achive root on that device. But I bricked it trying to get recovery. Dont want to make the same mistakes. .

The Sprint method is slightly different. From http://support.sprint.com/support/tutorial/Perform_a_hardware_factory_reset_LG_G2/49589-396:
With the Volume Down key held, press and hold the Power key.
Release both keys when the Home, Back, and Menu keys light up

I didn't see the Home, Back, and Menu keys light up, but when the recovery mode screen came up I released the buttons.
Best of luck!

[Q] Cant get into recovery

LG G2 Sprint
CM 11 - latest snapshot
TWRP recovery installed
So I installed an Xposed module and it screwed up my phone. My phone will boot, but once it does, it just does this weird thing and doesnt respong to touch. However the power button and power menu work, so I am able to turn it off and reboot it.
I was able to get into recovery twice, earlier today after a ton of tries. Now it's just not working. I have tried over and over and over and over again and the thing just will NOT boot recovery. It just keeps booting up, or restarting if I continue to hold down the buttons.
I decided to try ADB commands, but I dont think I have debugging enabled and my device wont show up when I ask ADB for a list of devices.
I got it to boot into recovery twice with "vol-up + vol-down + power".
After booting out of recovery to see if what I did worked, I tried to get back in and it wouldnt work after so many tries.
So I did a Google search to see if the button combination was right, and I found a guy use just "vol-down + power", which wont work for me. Worked for him though.
Any suggestions?
Use the first method to get into recovery again. Make sure you don't have a usb cable connected or it won't work.
Xposed will have created a recovery zip on your internal sd. Flash it and everything should be back to normal.

Hey
Any luck?
I think I tried all possibilities - vol up + power, vol down + power, power three times, vol down/up + power several times... Still no recovery.
I have d802 20b on stock 4.4.2.
One more thing - I don't have root.
