Will stock messaging/cm messaging app work? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If placed in system app and permissions fixed?
I assume the stock app will work but unsure if the cm10 messaging app will work without an aosp rom.
My thinking may be flawed. I need to get rid of this stock LG messaging app.

8sms is a great alternative if you can't get either of them to work. Though the icon isn't the same, you can change that. But the icon in the app will be the ugly default icon.

I'm pretty sure you will need the odex file to make it work. which i don't think the CM app would have, if you can get the stock parts from like a nexus 4 or something you should be able to make it work. I could be completely wrong, but i seem to remember the odex file causing issues with this kinda stuff.

8sms looks promising. I'll have to give it a shot. Thanks.

The stock messaging app from CM might work if placed in /system/app, but only for SMS.
You shouldn't need an odex file, because CM apk's are typically deodexed so the smali is already prepackaged into the apk.
But, all CM Messaging apk's need to be code-adjusted to the Telephony stuff from a particular device to make it MMS compatible. Possibly compatible at all depending on how different the device code is.
I looked into it the other day but the LG G2 code is a bit different than I'm used to, and I don't exactly have much time outside of work/life. Hopefully someone more experienced can get it done

8sms works like a charm.
i can't believe this is the first time i've heard of this sms app lol

Oh my gosh. 8sms RULES. Been waiting for something like this. The stock LG messaging app is ****ing AWFUL. Makes me not want to text. MMS works on AT&T without setting it up.
I just wish the message window was *exactly* the same as stock. The 8sms messaging conversation list has weird shadows outlining the texts themselves, and the date, (i.e. Sep 25) has a weird white box outlining it.

Long press on the mms.apk and press permissions then set it so that all 3 are checked for read, only user is checked for write and all are left unchecked for execute.
I don't have that option on long press. only properties.

The settings are actually in the app itself, what we need are librarys for the app to work.
It crashes looking for "rateconv" library.
EDIT: rateconv is in /lib/ of the dump, its "librateconv.so". Pushing this to /lib/ on my HTC One gplay lets the settings open but it immediately closes itself.
Ok, now it's crashing cause it doesn't have the motorola settings app, so you were right I guess.

can't change lockscreen wallpaper

I've done something I don't what.
I can no longer change my lock screen wallpaper to a downloaded our taken image. Only to the stock wallpapers.
I've undone all my chances and reduced apps back to the minimum.
Me too changing to marshmallow will change it but everything else is stuck on clkp custom theme. I have dirty flashed clean rom on top of it's self but it still does the same thing. I don't know it'd I should clean the cache of a apk because I don't know what does the themes. ...like the theme framework.???

Same issue. I thought it had something to do with the onscreen button mod (to add the recent apps and ellipsis). When I reverted to normal it was still broken. I can only add the stock lock screen wallpapers.
The only mod I did was the smaller mid size nav bar

Let us know if it works. Reverting didn't fix it for me. When I went to the Blackhole ROM it worked again, but once the mod was installed I noticed it was broken sometime later.

Nope. Flashed the navigation bar back to stock size and still doesn't change. Has to be the black nav bar mod, there's no revert and flashing the recent mod still keeps the black bar.
I am having the same problem. I am rooted and installed the tether mod. I did not try to change the lock screen wallpaper until after I was rooted.
It worked after rooted...I can't vouch for after clean rom. It might be something removed from clean or black
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I doubt it's the tether mod.
Flashed the revert for black bar which wiped out the bar altogether.
Flashed the recent mod, I'm 94% sure it worked, and still doesn't.
Going to have to root my wife's phone to do an adb pull off all changed files.
Can you elaborate on what you did. I can't post new I don't have permission

I could'nt fix it. I'm also not sure what broke it so I flashed CleanROM.
I also flashed the black bar recents mod and the smaller nav bar mod and it's still working.
It's neither of those.

that seems to be the common thread. We need to post in the correct thread do the devs, and users, are aware.
Sorry for bumping. We had a similar problem as LG Optimus G users and we were able to fix it. It's a simple permission issue.
In Optimus G you have to set the permission of this file to rwxrwxrwx:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",

Even if it's not the same it should be something like this. Find the wallpaper.png and set its permission to rwxrwxrwx

Guys, I was able to rectify this by clearing data in application manager>all apps>lockscreen settings. After that, set a stock wallpaper then a custom wallpaper. Lemme know if this works for you guys too, I did this over a week ago and I'm trying to recall the exact steps!
I have this issue after I push a MOD, though I am not sure which one causes the issue. The only way to fix it (before I discovered clearing lockscreen data) was to flash the ROM over again.

Or doesn't change the app drawer icon though, which is the goal of this whole post. Check out your app drawer icon in the picture, its still gray with the white squares. So is mine, plus changing my dpi changes up its size.
And has anyone found how to remove icon labels from the home screen on stock launcher? It looks a lot cleaner without them.

I think there is a way to add more icons to LG's stock icon picker, since we can actually create some from scratch there should be a way to add pack of icons to the picker, I am hoping..
I think i might actually know how to take the G2 theme apk and just make it into an add-on for icons... Give me a bit, let me mess around
EDIT: Already figured it out!

I'm trying to use this on Rayglobe 3.2 and can't get it to work, mind sharing the steps you took?

Update: was able to use unicon just fine. It was a little finicky at first, took more than one reboot at first. Stick with basic theme in LG settings/theme before applying. Profit
