How do i check if loki will work before purchasing? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hope i did not miss the answer to my question. I am about to purchase a stock att gs4 from craigslist. how do i check if loki will work on it before purchasing? Thanks in advance. PS i know it will not work on mf3 aboot but how does one check for that?

Settings/more/about phone.look at build number and baseband, last three digits should be MDL for "loki".dont stress to much about MF3 cause root is achieved and thanks to a popular developer by the name of Hashcode we now have Safstrap witch I use .

[Q] Why is there a CM rom for ATT?

i thought we were still waiting for the verizon model to come out before the unlocked bootloader method to be released. how are we able to have CM for ATT? is it this Loki stuff that is making that possible?
Some people bought their phones off contract and have unlocked bootloaders. Also by using a company for a fee can get you an unlock code.

Sorry for the noob question, but I got my AT&T S4 from Best Buy with my 2 year upgrade contract for $200, and my friend bought his from Best Buy AT&T S4 off the contract except a lot more expensive at $749.99. Is there a difference as I thought they were both i337 models... and all were locked bootloaders...
Not to mention if you use the OUDHS recovery, it's set up to Auto-Loki any ROM which is why it would make a TW-based CM work just fine. That being said, you're going to be dealing with nightlies, so if you're not ready to have a few issues here and there, it's not worth it to you to install it until an official release comes along.

Buying through the major carriers means a subsidized cost. If you're buying off-contract, it means you're the one paying for that subsidization and not the carrier, hence the larger cost. This is exactly why people flock to CL when buying phones off-contract because it's significantly cheaper, It doesn't change anything about the phone's internal hardware, An I337 bought at BB off-contract is still the same physical model as one bought on-contract through an AT&T Store.

I think you're a bit confused. What you're talking about is for a SIM unlock. Completely unrelated to the bootloader unlock we're mentioning here. As of right now, there is no bootloader unlock available for the AT&T/VZW GS4s
oh i thought it came out on the 30th.. so i guess i gotta search around for the unlock method? not sure i understand this "Loki" stuff

Loki is not really an unlock, it's more of a way to circumvent the bootloader since as of right now there's no way to unlock the AT&T variant GS4s. Look at this thread first to download what you'll need for root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248
After that, you can visit this thread here and find what you'll need to use a recovery. Here's one that will Auto-Loki your ROMs for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291956
Or you can run TWRP/CWM and flash this kernel after installing whatever ROM you choose for Loki:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292341
With these tools installed, you can now run any ROM of your choice, but try to stick to those more closely based to the stock ROM as you can to keep all of your features working.
Hope that helps.

Just keep your eyes on a thread for the GW fix. Should be in the Android Development (not Original) thread. I've skimmed past it several times in the past couple days. And, yes, OUDHS will auto-Loki. TWRP as of right now will not.

Not an unlocked bootloader. Bootloader will be locked if u get the s4 from att. U can install twrp using goo manager then flash a loki'd rom/kernel if you wish. Make sure they are loki'd.

[Q]

Hello Xda
I am currently running PAC on an mdl base band. When I got the phone, I it shipped with AMDL and I did and have successfuly used Loki on it since the day I got the phone. With all the recent developments with Safestrap, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything by continuing as is instead of going to MF3 and using safestrap. Am I correct in saying that sticking with Loki is better?
Thanks

Only you can decide what is the best option for you. It is completely subjective. I suggest you read about what SafeStrap has to offer and compare for yourself the benefits of SafeStrap versus MDL (LOKI). I am assuming you already have a decent understanding about LOKI (because you are using it), if not you can read about it as well. Good luck.

[Q] Root method for NC1 update?

So before I go any further I would just like to quickly note that I have tried to do some research on this question before posting it and have came up empty handed.
Now for the question: My Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 updated to NC1 the night that the update was released and I was wondering how I could currently achieve root on NC1?
Specs:
Model: Samsung SGH-I337
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband: I337UCUFNC1
Currently running 100% stock and would like root.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!

The same way you root NB1. This has been asked, you proceed with the downgrade as normal. It may help to go to NB1 first and then MK2.

At one point we all were and called ourselves like that. What bothers is that we see the same questions on new threads over and over. A forum was design to read and search. Once you don't find your answer you post a new thread. Some moderators will suggest the same to avoid clogged our forum. That's how we should treated and care for. I don't feel it's offensive and if it is apologize to those who feel that way.

I remember when I had my GS3 I had to flash stock 4.3 (which if I'm not mistaken still has a locked bootloader) and then I flashed a custom stock 4.1 rom and was able to flash the latest CM 11 plus a modem/bootloader combo zip from 4.3 and it worked fine. Is that even in the realm of possibilities with the GS4?

I had the GS3 also and it was great you could flash anything Ubuntu and more, but now AT&T tied our hands because the war it's having with Samsung we pay. Others phones like the HTC it's reported to be bootloader unlocked. You can flash cm 11 without any problem.

[Q] Couple of Queries, plz help

I have acquired an S4 i337 from At&t, it's on the MF3 4.2.2, i have used towel root to root it and installed safestrap as well...
i wanted to upgrade to 4.4, should i just odin the firmware onto it by putting it into download mode? which 4.4 is best for it in terms of stability and stuff...? i think only stock touchwiz is recommended since i don't know whether it's bootloader is locked or not...
second
can i root the 4.4 through towel root easily or is there a problem with it... which in your opinion is the best for the i337? I won't be able to downgrade again yeah?
I would flash the nb1 tar file in Odin and then go from there. You can root everything including oc3. Read through this and you'll find ask your answers, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53758227

thank you for replying, that's very helpful. Also if i may, i need to flash 4.3 before 4.4 or just go directly towards 4.4?

it's just downloading the firmware (NB1) then putting the phone into download mode, start Odin and wait for the phone to reboot? that's it?

Yes it's as simple as that. Put the tar in PDA or AP slot depending on what version of Odin you're using. Only have f.reset and auto reboot checked.

Yes you can with Odin, but do your know the bootloader version of 4.2.2 you're on? If you're on mdb or mdl you probably don't want to update. On 4.2.2 you can use twrp or cwm custom recoveries and flash any roms your want. Once you're on 4.4.4 you'll be limited.
