[HELP] No sound, No WIFI - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I bought an S4 I9505 Yesterday. Got it home, and set straight to setting up a custom rom and recovery etc. I tried to Omega 4.3 V2 first. But it ended up getting stuck in a Boot loop..Then i tried Omega 4.2 V11. That worked fine with no Sound from speakers etc. I have no idea how to sort it out. I wiped the phone, cache and Dalvic cache before and after install etc. But still no sound.
Tried to install a stock firmware and start again, but unfortunatly the stock firmware that was on the phone when i bought it was I9505XXUDMH8 with the No downgrade bootloader. When i try to flash back to the original firmware now, theres no Wifi or no sound...so its even worse than the omega flash. I have tried everything i can think off and im at a loss..
Any help is appreciated.

re-flash the MH8 stock firmware (untick "auto-reboot" when it pass, pull battery, insert it, boot into recovery, wipe data and cache, reboot)
if it didnt fix, flash MH8 modem twice http://d-h.st/UcW before flashing the stock, wipe, reboot.

Sorted now. Thanks for the reply. After downloading loads of different firmwares, i downloaded an Odexed MH8 pre-rooted rom and flashed that. Finally everything works. Massive relief all round.

Wi-Fi won't turn on

Just got a brand new i9505 and the Wi-Fi won't turn on.
When I hit the Wi-Fi toggle it goes on for 1 sec then back off. I have tried a factory reset etc but just can't turn it on. I can't believe it's actually faulty. This is my 2nd faulty S4 out of the box. I brought a i9500 about a month ago and it keeps freezing & rebooting after a minute of use. Unfortunately I can't send that one back as it has a custom Rom & there is no way to reset the counter. I gave up on it and through it in the draw.
I decided to get a new one but went with the i9505 this time. How can I have so much bad luck. Is the S4 that unreliable?

Instead of clicking the wifi toggle, why not try to go into settings and mobile networks
and turn it on there.
Good luck!

I,m using KERNEL][INT'L][AOSP/TW][6/10/2013B] KT-SGS4 - MDM - KTweaker
You can try booting into recovery and clearing the Cache and Dalvik Cache to fix the wifi. It's worked for me and other people on this forum.
i also have the same problem on my S4, basically the wifi wont turn on, i already did flashing firmware, wipe cache and dalvik cache but still the same thing
yeah same here. I've been researchin and flashin almost a month now and nobody seriously nobody could fix this issue. shame. i hate that it happened suddenly and without a warning.
Happened to me also...This is how I fixed it (accidentally of-course ):-
---First mistakenly dirty flashed stock ROM via odin v 10...That was an honest mistake
---Couldn't start my phone due to it...FC messages were appearing again and again...
---went to download mode...directly flashed CF-Auto Root and TWRP from ODIN again...
1) Wiped everything from TWRP
2) Went to download mode and flashed Stock ROM via Odin.
3) WiFi didn't turn on even in Stock ROM (came as a shock to me)
4) went to download mode...directly flashed CF-Auto Root and TWRP from ODIN again
5) Flashed "Doctors-Amputated-V3" and "CWM-Modem-I9500ZCUJOH2_2" via TWRP.
voila !! WiFi working again in the new ROM
Hi mate,
Could you please explain what "Doctors-Amputated-V3" is? A custom ROM?
Basically, I have flashed the stock Samsung image and a previous backup, and still have issues having used PryFi. I'm trying to get my WiFi back to stock and probably flash a kernel or revert to whatever is most compatible, so as to stop my device rebooting...
Could you please recommend a kernel or modem to flash, and then the best kernel or modem to flash afterwards, in order for maximum compatibility. My S4 has always been stock rom, just with Root.
Appreciate your time Prateekgupta!
Cheers,

---Yes its a custom ROM...
---PryFi breaks phone's Wifi every time you use it...I've given up and uninstalled that app....Flash stock rom again through ODIN...
---The process I described didn't solve my problem...My wifi worked only for 20 minutes...After that it went back to grey...
---No software trick can help if your Wifi and Bluetooth both are not working...Its basically the Wifi antenna/IC that needs to be fixed...Its a hardware issue...

Hiya guys need some help
I have a galaxy s4 gt-i9505 that I had running the Google play edition ROM
Then my wife ordered a galaxy gear for my birthday (early January)
I tried to put the latest carrier ROM on through Odin and it flashed OK but kept coming up with procces.android.acore has stopped
I did some googleing and then re-flashed the ROM but clicked the wipe button and it flashed OK
But when it restarted it got stuck in a bootloop and wouldn't get past the Samsung logo
I then flashed twrp recovery and managed to get 4.4 ROM on there (but it seems really laggy and drops calls everytime)
I have tried to recover my backup but twrp can't see it and the cwm recovery won't flash on
So how do I either get stock back on my phone or a ROM that will accept the gear and isn't laggy or buggy
Thanks in advance for the help guys

Download the triangle away app. (search google or xda)
Download the latest Samsung ROM from Sammobile.com
Enter in recovery mode and WIPE all data,
Flash the ROM via ODIN.
When its done, enter in recover again and make another wipe.
If u get a successful boot, and if u have a new bootloader(knox) u wont be able to use WIFI, u'll need to use Triangle away to wipe the binary counter. SO then u will need to REFLASH the ROM.
After all of this, u should get the phone working fine.
Sorry for the text. ;o
IF U DONT HAVE THE NEW BOOTLOADER (KNOX), JUST WIPE THE SYSTEM BEFORE AND AFTER FLASHING.
Good luck, bro.

i tried a wipe through odin and that just caused a bootloop again
any other ideas on how to get back to stock ??

Mate, try this steps:
1. Flash stock recovery
2. Flash stock rom from sammobile
3. wipe
The gear only works with stock rom 4.3
ok so i tried everything nothing worked and i got stuck in a constant bootloop
then i tried flashing it with odin 3.09 .......all was going well till it failed and left me with nothing on the phone at all
i re-tried with through 3.07 and this time it worked
i now have stock on my phone thankfully
thanks for all the help guys

[Q] I've been searching for almost a day, still can't figure it out - No sound/Wifi

Hello everyone,
So I wanted to go back to stock 4.2.2 from CM11 which went fine, then I updated to 4.3 because I wanted to use a new ROM. Well I messed during the flash and when it booted back into 4.3 I had No wifi, no sound, no calling and if I tried playing a song it would say it wasn't supported.
Then I wiped data/cache and flashed 4.2.2 again, same problem No wifi, no sound, etc. Thought I would try CM11 again, Wifi works but no sound. Flashed 4.2.2 again and now I am here.
I have searched the forums and people have been talking about modems/radios and that could be the problem. But I have no idea where to start because I haven't found much for the SGH-i337M. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
-Update-
Build number is MDJ and Baseband is MK6. Are they supposed to be the same?

The rom you have has the 4.3 which cannot be downgraded to an older rom (MDJ).
What you need to do is to get a hold of the specific 4.3 MK6 odin flash firmware for
your phone model number which is available at http://SamMobile.com .
Then go into recovery and wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, system and last but not
least perform a "factory reset" in recovery before Odin flashing the official 4.3
MK6 stock jellybean firmware.
After that, the phone will work fine, but it will not be rooted and it will not have a
custom recovery like twrp or cwm so you will need to start all over again rooting
and flashing cwm or twrp custom recovery if you want to flash 4.3 custom roms.
It worked, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Didn't know once you went 4.3 you couldn't go back. XD
Wow, SO MANY thanks to you Misterjunky
Misterjunky,
I *just* created this account solely for the purpose of saying THANK YOU SO MUCH a million times over, after formatting 'data' 'cache' 'system' and performing a wipe of data/factory reset in ClockworkMOD recovery I was finally able to fix this exact same issue with my Telus branded SGH-I337M, It had me stumped for well over the last 48hrs. To anyone out there reading this who is having the same problem and would like step by step screenshot instructions and/or a dropbox link to the official 'TLS I337MVLUEMK6' [Telus 4.3 Jellybean Stock Firmware] please contact me at:
edit: As a new user it will not let me link to my email account, please use this site to message me. Sorry.
I will check this account daily at midnight EST and reply to all serious inquiries as a token of paying it fwd and saying thank you.
Misterjunky - you sir, are the friggen MAN.

[Q] How do I get sound to work on my s4?

Hi,
I recently got the I337m s4 that was originally under Bell (canadian carrier). The first mistake, I think I made was immediately flashing it by using the chainfire autoroot method with odin. After I did, I installed the gummy rom. Ever since then, I cannot get the sound to work on my phone. I am not sure if it is a modem issue. I hope it is not a hardware issue. I already tried going to
From searching different threads on here, one user of the i9505 variant was able to get sound working by using odin to flash the stock rom. I linked the thread below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698073
Is this the proper way to start troubleshooting? I already tried getting back to stock by using odin 3.07 and the firmware below that did not work:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/?page=1&model=SGH-I337M&pcode=0#firmware
Should I try flashing stock again but this time by doing the battery pull method (pulling the battery, before rebooting, after flashing is complete) that a lot people suggest? Did I select the correct firmware from sammobile?
P.S. When I did go back to stock, the boot screen samsung always played sound.
some ideas
try flashing the modems
reflash rom and check md5 before flashing
restore your nandroid
i think 3.09 is latest odin, but never used it
are you wiping all including system before flashing rom--i do it 3x
I have not tried flashing the modem but I read on xda that when you flash the whole stock firmware from sammobile, you end up re-flashing the modem since it is in the firmware. I will try flashing modem separately since I have not done that, yet.
When I flash, I always wipe dalvik cache, cache and do a factory reset before I start.
Btw, I did go flash the firmware from sammobile today and unrooted my phone. I still get no sound when playing music. The only sound I get is the samsung boot sound, when booting my phone.

Only other thing I can think of is to back up personal data and wipe your cards.
It seems like every time I do factory reset from the phone or flash using odin, the sound works for 5 minutes, when I play a track. Then I have to restart the phone and sometimes the sound comes back sometimes it doesnt. Otherwise, everything else working fine.
[FIXED]
Partly, because I had misplaced my OEM battery, I did not mention this before. The whole time my phone would randomly restart and not play sounds, I was using the anker 7800mah batter. After, I put the OEM stock battery back in, everything is working fine now! I am still on stock firmware but was able to root using chainfire with no issues.:good:

Back to stock rom, hanging when placing call, no sound etc.

Hi there
I have recently picked up my old S4 since my OPO screen broke. I was annoyed with the buggy CM 12 nightly it was running and tried installing the newest CM 13 nightly. It gave me no signal and I decided to try to revert to stock, following the guide Unroot/Unbrick, Flash official stock firmware on S4. Applying the I9505XXUAMDE_I9505OXXAMD8_NEE 4.2.2 stock rom through ODIN was a breeze but after booting i realized it had no sound.
Also placing or receiving calls makes the phone hang, even occasionally reboot, and sometimes a window with "android.phone.. app" or "process system is not answering" appears. For example also not possible to record video.
I did both factory reset and wipe cache in bootloader, but when wiping cache I get the lying down android with red exclamation mark for a few seconds then reboot.
I then tried to reflash above stock rom with repartition (pit file) and the problem remains.
I dont suppose it is a hardware problem since it started after I flashed new rom. It seems like some audio related software issue that I cant seem to get rid of - can anyone help or should I just give up and get another phone?
Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post
Try flashing a newer ROM.
The guide used is pretty old I guess and should be used only as reference.
What was the initial stock ROM your device had?

I already tried rerooting and flashing back to both CM 10.2 and newest CM 13 nightly from philz touch recovery. Both with the same problem when placing or receiving a call. But sound was working..
I don't know the exact stock rom the phone came with but seem to recall it was 4.2.2 as I have installed now.
Is there anything else that can be flashed back to original? I read several posts talking about a modem reflash for fixing audio issues but I suppose the stock rom should contain the modem info already..?
I specifically went for the oldest rom, since the guide said that once stock 4.3 is flashed you cant revert due to new bootloader. And I was hoping to revert to being able to use OTA updates since I plan on gifting the phone to an even more tech illiterate than myself.. Is that going to be a problem if I just flash for example the newest 5.0.1 stock rom?

Downgrading causes problems in the first place, that is why it is recommended to flash the same software as it originally had.
As long as your status says "official" in download mode, you should be able to still get updates. Although who knows for how long.
I also recommend using the latest TWRP recovery. PhilZ and CWM are outdated and can cause problems with newer ROMs.
