Wi-Fi won't turn on - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got a brand new i9505 and the Wi-Fi won't turn on.
When I hit the Wi-Fi toggle it goes on for 1 sec then back off. I have tried a factory reset etc but just can't turn it on. I can't believe it's actually faulty. This is my 2nd faulty S4 out of the box. I brought a i9500 about a month ago and it keeps freezing & rebooting after a minute of use. Unfortunately I can't send that one back as it has a custom Rom & there is no way to reset the counter. I gave up on it and through it in the draw.
I decided to get a new one but went with the i9505 this time. How can I have so much bad luck. Is the S4 that unreliable?

Instead of clicking the wifi toggle, why not try to go into settings and mobile networks
and turn it on there.
Good luck!

I,m using KERNEL][INT'L][AOSP/TW][6/10/2013B] KT-SGS4 - MDM - KTweaker

You can try booting into recovery and clearing the Cache and Dalvik Cache to fix the wifi. It's worked for me and other people on this forum.

i also have the same problem on my S4, basically the wifi wont turn on, i already did flashing firmware, wipe cache and dalvik cache but still the same thing

yeah same here. I've been researchin and flashin almost a month now and nobody seriously nobody could fix this issue. shame. i hate that it happened suddenly and without a warning.

Happened to me also...This is how I fixed it (accidentally of-course ):-
---First mistakenly dirty flashed stock ROM via odin v 10...That was an honest mistake
---Couldn't start my phone due to it...FC messages were appearing again and again...
---went to download mode...directly flashed CF-Auto Root and TWRP from ODIN again...
1) Wiped everything from TWRP
2) Went to download mode and flashed Stock ROM via Odin.
3) WiFi didn't turn on even in Stock ROM (came as a shock to me)
4) went to download mode...directly flashed CF-Auto Root and TWRP from ODIN again
5) Flashed "Doctors-Amputated-V3" and "CWM-Modem-I9500ZCUJOH2_2" via TWRP.
voila !! WiFi working again in the new ROM

Hi mate,
Could you please explain what "Doctors-Amputated-V3" is? A custom ROM?
Basically, I have flashed the stock Samsung image and a previous backup, and still have issues having used PryFi. I'm trying to get my WiFi back to stock and probably flash a kernel or revert to whatever is most compatible, so as to stop my device rebooting...
Could you please recommend a kernel or modem to flash, and then the best kernel or modem to flash afterwards, in order for maximum compatibility. My S4 has always been stock rom, just with Root.
Appreciate your time Prateekgupta!
Cheers,

---Yes its a custom ROM...
---PryFi breaks phone's Wifi every time you use it...I've given up and uninstalled that app....Flash stock rom again through ODIN...
---The process I described didn't solve my problem...My wifi worked only for 20 minutes...After that it went back to grey...
---No software trick can help if your Wifi and Bluetooth both are not working...Its basically the Wifi antenna/IC that needs to be fixed...Its a hardware issue...

Odin DISABLED!!!

It happened when I flashed ChobitsDigitalis or something like that into my SGY. I cleared wipe and cache two times before and flashed it using CWM. custom rom successful.
but there is a problem I noticed, at first I can't connect to a Wi-Fi (which has excellent signal). I assumed that this is caused by my new custom rom, so I tried to use my nandroid backup (back to stock rom). it was successful, but when I tried to boot it only showed the logo for many minutes. I think I should re-flash it using Odin mode. I successfully booted to Odin mode first, but when I started reflashing the message stuck to establishing connection, I disconnected and did it the second time. this time shows Failed message.third time I cleared data and cache and flashed again. stuck at establishing connection. I flashed back to custom rom and that happened. I can't access it in button combination keys.
What should I do? How can I re-enable it again?
Re-flash stock ROM and update it via Samsung FW update to the latest...then root your device and start all over again
Why dont you consider Remix V2.1 it works GREAT !!!
A ROM being updated to V2.5 anytime this week or so :good:

Slimbean 4.2.2 Build - media issues

Hi all,
I recently installed the newest build of Slimbean. I am having a few issues: I am unable to play any media... Music, videos (youtube). My phone app does not work. I cannot receive nor send any calls. And my phone produces no sounds at all.
I tried installing build 7 to see if it was an issue with the build I was using... didn't help.
Internet and wifi work without any problems.
Galaxy S4 i337m
Baseband: I337MUMUAMDL
Version: Slim-4.2.2.build.7-OFFICIAL
Build #: slim_jfltecan-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39E eng.blk_jack.20130706.15730 test-keys
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Update: Any ROM I install... Phone and sounds do not work.

I'd Odin back to stock and see if you still have the issue. If you do it's a hardware issue.

I did just that... But it's a bit of a story.
I had just fixed another problem I was having yesterday. Was getting stuck at the S4 splash screen right after powering on the phone. The problem was caused by TWRP 2.6 and formatting /data partition. Long story short, I installed CWM and used it to do a full wipe/format of partitions and then was able to install ROMs, restore backups without issue.
So today, since everything was working, I decided to flash a new custom ROM (which I installed) and the MG1 radio. Wasn't having any luck with the radio. Finally, I was able to flash a radio via mobile odin, but then I soft bricked my phone. Got stuck at the S4 splash screen (same issue I had yesterday, but this time, a different cause). So was troubleshooting it all day. Tried to go back to stock, no luck. Tried to restore the stock backup I had, no luck. Only thing I could do was install custom ROMs at this point to get into my phone (i.e. Slimbean, FoxHound, etc...). But, at this point, although I could boot into Android, I had no sound at all and couldn't play video. So after hours of trial and error, I installed CWM again (replacing TWRP 2.5.0.2), did a full wipe/format and tried to install a stock ROM. No luck. Still was hanging at the S4 splash screen. Then I tried to install this ROM again which I had luck with in the past; |ROM| |★VLUAMG1★| |CANADIAN||i337M||STOCK||ROOTED||July.26.13|. But his instructions said to install a wifi fix or fear soft bricking my phone. So I installed the wifi fix, but selected the wrong file (I know, stupid. Done a lot of stupid **** in the past couple days with this phone). Now, after the phone rebooted, I would see the S4 splash screen for a split second, and it would auto load into download (odin) mode. Couldn't get into recovery at all. So then I decided to flash one of the stock ROMs I tried earlier that didn't work, but this time, SUCCESS!!!!! Phone was booting and all sounds worked. I could make/receive phone calls as well... Everything seems to be working fine now. I find it funny that flashing a wifi fix that I shouldn't have seems to have fixed my issue in a sense. Since it allowed me to successfully flash a stock ROM. So I am making a backup of the stock ROM and will decide what I'm going to do from here.
Holy goalie!!! It's been a very vexing couple of days.
Nice that you got it all worked out, I've found out that if your "status" is custom, it will sometimes give you problems when flashing a "stock" rom via odin.
So what I always do when reverting back to the stock rom, I use triangle away to clear the flash count and make my phone back to "Official". If you want the steps to do this, let me know, it's not hard, but there are crucial steps to get this right!

[Q] No WIFI on Stock NEE Rom

When i flash the latest NEE Stock rom i got no wifi signal it dosent want to turn on, it only hangs there and says activating but nothing happens and when i press the power off button instead of the little menu that comes up it just shuts down, i also tried to flash a custom rom and then the wifi works on there and theres no problem at all but it just messes up at the stock rom..?
Possibly a bug on the Stock Rom, Stick with a custom until incremental updates are issued to fix any Stock Issues.

Phone rebooting randomly

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum with an account but before today I've always read the forum without an account.
About 1 month ago, I rooted my SM-N9005 (it was GNG1 with Italian Vodafone ROM) then installed Safestrap and then I installed a Custom ROM (Galaxy S5 by IKINDER_BUENO). With the custom rom, the phone had no problems except the initial ones (apps started auto-closing randomly), but after 2 days of use the problem flew away autonomously.
Last wednesday I removed Safestrap and the custom rom flashing the phone with the original nobrand rom (ITV-GNG1), after that my phone started to do the weirdest things (auto-closing apps, very excessive battery drain ecc.), then this morning I turned off the phone due to school things, when I rebooted it hadn't any anomaly, but after 30/40 mins (no use, just in the pocket) it auto-rebooted so I thought that maybe the system crashed or maybe something similar happened, but after it booted correctly, after only 5 min it auto-rebooted 3 times in a row without any user interaction (reboot->boot->30sec ----> reboot->boot->30sec ----> reboot->boot->30sec ----> reboot->boot), it made me worry about that, so as soon as i got home I reflashed it with the original Vodafone ROM, but nothing changed.
Now, my phone reboots randomly and also the proximity sensor doesn't work (probably is a ROM issue, I'm downloading another version of the Vodafone ROM because the one I've downloaded has German Apps, now I'm downloading it with Italian apps (I hope so).
Could someone help me resolving this issue?
I asked also Vodafone support if they could change my phone (they repair only but in case that the phone came back 3 times from SAMSUNG assistance without resolving the problem, they will change it).
Ah, my KNOX Warranty Void is 0x1 due to the root.
Sorry if I've done grammatical errors, I'm Italian.
Install TWRP, flash a custom ROM then wipe data, cache (not internal SD) reboot into the custom ROM, set it up and see what happens after 24 hours. It's possible the device just needs cleaned. You could reflash stock again and do a complete wipe but since you've tripped KNOX to 0x1 already may as well wipe manually via recovery.

Hi man, thank u for your very fast answer, so schematizing the process:
1) Install TWRP through Recovery;
2) Flash a Custom ROM (I will use again S5 Port by IKINDER_BUENO);
3) Wipe data and cache from TWRP, right?
4) Use custom ROM and test if the issue is resolved;
Is it right? Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't want to trip anymore my phone.
In case the issue is solved, and I want to came back to the original Recovery and ROM, how should I do?
Thank u again.
Yip that's correct but install TWRP recovery through ODIN. Once you have tripped KNOX you cannot trip it anymore.
In order to go back to complete stock afterwards, find your firmware for your country and model number. The. Flash via ODIN

Hey man, I've noticed something very unusual... Every time the phone autoreboots battery stats resets, it's very strange.
Have u ever had/read a problem like this?

Hey man, I've tested your method and some issues seems to be resolved (auto-reboot), but other issues are arrived (any sensor isnt working, no one not just the proximity one and sometimes the phone shuts off and wont turn on, and I've to remove and reinsert battery and then then the phone goes).
Waiting your instructions.

Hmm, there was an issue where one ROM killed the sensors on a Note 3, but that was last year.. There is a post somewhere about how to fix them. Can't remember where it was. But, it's possible you may have faulty sensors :crying: . I'll have a look in the morning (just finished work now) -and try and find out where the post is and what the fix was.

Thank you for your interest, I can prove that my sensor aren't fault (I hope so, but 2 weeks ago they were working!)
What about the battery problem?
UPDATE:
Hi again, this morning phone started rebooting autonomously, during 6 hours it rebooted somewhat like 3 o 4 times. Sensors are still dead, none working and as I anticipated yesterday, phone sometimes turns off and wont turn on unless I remove battery.
Now I'm installing Cyanogenmod, and try what happens.
I've also searched for the post of the note 3 with that dead sensors, but I haven't found it.

Galaxy A5 2016 Wifi not turning on

Hello there,
Today I flashed TWRP 3.0.2-1 using Odin 3.10.7 on my sisters Galaxy A5 2016 (sm-a510f). After that, I installed SuperSU 2.78 using TWRP.
Since that, the WiFi does not turn on. When you press the button to turn it on, it shows the "loading circle", and seems to do nothing. The circle stays forever.
Other than that, the phone appears to work fine. It did never report any error messages.
I already tried wiping cache, dalvik and data. I also made a factory reset using the option in the settings.
Later I found a newer version of TWRP (3.1.1-0) by Zonik . Flashing this did not fix the problem.
Do you have any ideas on what I could do to make it work again?
Edit:
In the meantime, I flashed a custom rom. Everything appears to work fine at the moment.
I didn't want to do that initially, so the phone could get the stock updates without me doing anything.
But still I am interested, what steps should I have done, to keep stock? And where might I be able to download the stock rom?
You should have flashed a later version of SuperSU.
You can use Samsung Smart Switch to restore factory settings.
Alternatively you can always find the latest firmwares on updato.com
Oh, I have just seen that I forgot to reply to that. I'm sorry.
@ashyx Thank you, I'm going to do that the next time. I was following a manual someone wrote on the Internet. I should have been smart enough not to trust a manual that's been lying around for some time.
@Vinhixus I tried that. Samsung Smart Switch did not like to do that (Don't ask me why, it said the device is not supported for factory reset).
Finally I "fixed" the wifi-bug by installing a custom rom wich i did not want to do in the first place because I did not want to change the OS on the device, just the bloatware samsung puts on their device.
Not much of a fix, more like a dirty hack to me
Thank you for your support
Actually you needed to flash correct modem. The custom ROM fixes it because modem was compatible for it. For the stock one you need modem that matches it i guess.
