Hai guys.
I recently found a page on web that android kitkat is going to be updated for most of the xperia phones
i linked it.[/CENTER]
http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/506245/20130916/android-4-kitkat-os-18-smartphones-tablets.htm#.Uj583canqnQ
Android 4.4 KitKat will support more phones and tablets including ones which already aged long ago. Know the HTC, LG, Samsung and Sony Android devices which are eligible to Google's new Android OS.
HTC Smartphones
HTC smartphones are well known for its Sense UI which is virtually lagless compared with other Android devices out there. HTC imparted powerful hardware components and premium materials to promote stability and elegance. Certain HTC phones are qualified to get Android 4.4 KitKat and hopefully the company can push software upgrades to them soon.
1. The One Family including HTC One, HTC One X and HTC One X+
2. New Desire family released in 2013
3. Desire line up including Desire X and Desire V
4. DROID DNA, HTC J and Butterfly
Most of these devices have at least 512 MB of RAM and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. Android 4.4 KitKat has been speculated to feature Linux kernel 3.8 for low-memory requirements.
LG Smartphones
Several models from the LG Optimus line are qualified to run Android 4.4 KitKat with at least 512 MB of RAM. Some of these units include:
1. G2
2. Nexus 4
3. Optimus L7, L5 and L3
4. Optimus G and G Pro
5. Optimus VU
LG remains quite if when they are going to push Jelly Bean updates to their smartphones and still unclear when they will announce official KitKat release.
Samsung Galaxy Line
Samsung's vast smartphones and tablets line up are expected to receive Android 4.4 KitKat as well. However, the company seems to stagger updates on their devices due to overpopulation.
1. Galaxy S4 line: Galaxy S4 original, Zoom and Active
2. Galaxy S line: Galaxy S3 and S2
3. Galaxy Note: Note phablets and Note tablets
4. Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3
5. Galaxy Tab: Galaxy Tab 3, Galaxy Tab 2 and Galaxy Tab 1
6. Mid-range devices such as Galaxy Young, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Mini and Galaxy Ace
Samsung recently decided to skip Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Galaxy S3 and instead will push Android 4.3 to save time and effort. The company may also release Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to selected device but it remains unclear which one and when.
Sony Xperia Smartphones
Sony Xperia phones feature combined multimedia applications and Exmor camera sensors with fast processors from Qualcomm. The Japanese tech company is now developing Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for selected Xperia phones which be pushed primarily on the Xperia Z family. Android 4.4 KitKat is expected soon to arrive to the following devices:
1. Xperia Z family: Z original, ZR, ZL, Z Ultra and Z1 Honami
2. Xperia tablet S and tablet Z
3. Xperia mid-range phones: Xperia M, C, SP, L, S, SL, U and many more
Sony mobile devices are commonly equipped with 512 MB of RAM and a single-core Qualcomm processor.
IMHO this isn't going to happen.
As you can see, Sony has never mentioned 2011 Xperia's for Jelly Bean updates, as they were made by Sony and Ericsson and since the partnership has been dissolved I do not think they will update some "dead" phones.

no way !
if sony doesn't, Cyanogenmod will
I believe that if possible, Cyanogenmod based on 4.4 will be available, though i have not read the cyanogen wiki / news about this recently.
if its compatible, then it would be nice to have 4.4 on this device.
I use to have an Xperia Play and I'm incredibly doubtful that you will ever get 4.4 even with custom roms. Awesome phone when I had it but it never even had ICS.
Currently have a Galaxy S3 and probably going to get a Xperia Z1 next.
hope it comes true )

OP just adding links to built from source roms as they rollout the official updates and wait for an official CM release.
The guy that mentioned xperia play only had 5 posts (so he's not a developer). I think you confused his broken English thinking he was saying xperia play 4.4 soon, when really he was asking for it to be done soon. It's typical for new members who don't know the rules or what's going on in development for the device. 4.4 isn't coming to XP, at least not until we can get more devs behind it, it's not even being worked on as far I know. I hope that clears things up.

we only need a working kernel.. once that's done.. we will get a working ROM asap. our kernel is Mid way.. just a little bit more and we are done.
Our kernel development is stopped as our main developer is not able to get touchscreen fixed and nobody else got it working. I honestly think that we will never have android 4.4, not even custom made @xda :<

Well the device never even made it to Jellybean and only got a beta for ICS. Gingerbread is what this device was made for. It runs beautifully with it.

LMFAO that's not even for phones, just tablets..Jellybean is nothing new
The whole will be 2.5 yrs old by the time its in wide distribution. Won't be a snowballs chance in hell...
Lets take this ...it was much easy for sony to update all xperia 2011 as at end of day all were running same core components ...sammy have fragmented hardware so would take considerable amount of time and money for each to make ...
2012 sony also doing same by sticking to novathor and same gpu so no problems for updates
Sent from Galaxy Ace which just landed on "MOON"
I think XPlay can handle as much as ICS. They wouldn't update their 2011 devices in 2013, maybe only Xperia S, P, U, sola (2012 Sony devices) etc. will get that new update.
I would not even hold your hopes up for official ICS.
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Sony has said that they don't particularly believe ICS will run as well as we want it to on their phones. Given that, and the fact that Jellybean will be advanced beyond ICS, as well as the fact that Jellybean has been said to be tablet-only, I don't think Android 5 will ever, ever see the light of day on the Xperia Play.
Wait, Jellybean is tablet only? I thought the whole point of ICS was to merge the tablet and handheld branches on android into one unified platform moving forward. I guess that went out the window. Maybe there is something to that whole "fragmentation" argument after all.

I thought so, too.
@jdz7t8 and crono141
I think they mean that Android 5.0 will be primarily focused on features for Tablets. It will also come for Smartphones though because then it wouldn´t make any sense what they´ve done with Android 4.0 . Seriously, would be dumb to fragment Android even more from a app developer sight.
And Android 5.0 for our Xperia Play... Well, i doubt it will happen. Look at other smartphone devices. The Galaxy S didn´t get ICS because it got two majour updates (2.2 and 2.3) and it was two years old at the time when the update plan from Samsung was released which is very old for a smartphone (usually 1 year support). And it was successful! ICS is possible from a hardware perspective. The main reason is to prompt customers to buy a new smartphone. Other companies are even worse in this matter(Motorola, LG).
I mean Sony isn´t bad. They did it better with the 2011 Xperia Line. But they
want to sell their new phones. I would appreciate if they bring that update, but unless they announce anything in regards to that, i believe there isn´t any update for us.
I think that Sony should be focusing on giving their customers a good experience with their phones. It would benefit all their us customers who typically get their phones every two years. They need to keep their us customers loyal to their brand right?

Not surprising actually since stock ICS didn't run that well on my Arc S i think... I am now back on GB and the phone feels alright again.
I see it like this:
GB = Windows XP
ICS = Windows Vista
JB = Windows 7 (Hopefully)
I understand why they don't want to give us JB. It's impossible to play games on ICS and it's not really stable and lagfree.
Sent from my LT18i using xda app-developers app
how sad..
ive just feel the jeelly bean on nexus 7 and the ics on s3 really almost no difference its like its been tweak. so why not use it for arc?
If sony gives us 4.1, would u buy the 2012 xperia phones?
Think about it, its all market strategies...
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
I don´t see that comment as an official statement but if it so i can say that my arc s is very very well on 4.0.4 i would just like some improvements on ram issues also hope more upgrades from sony i have 27 games installed on my arc s and all of them are perfectly playable
its beacause they loose money paying the developers to bringthe update, thats the reason why we cant get official jb... but ours arc/s of course can run jb
Seeing that the ICS for the U and P are still on their way, I think JB for the 2011 line is almost impossible. They won't have time to pull the magic. So it's quite an expected statement rather than an outright disappointment for me. Glad they're stating it early and not just let users waiting in vain. At least we know what's coming.
Sent from my Xperia arc using Tapatalk
The Arc S released for about 1 year ago. It's hard, but thats the destiny if you don't buy a Nexus phone.
And, after I read the blog, I would say, the Xperia S will not be updated to 4.1... Thats my opinion...
Sony is releasing to many phones right now, and their Flagships have outdated software and hardware ( The Ion)
I got the arc because of the sexy design and camera
Always it's about SONY's market strategy.
All I can say is that a coworker received OTA the day before yesterday 4.1.1 JB on his Samsung Google Nexus S, which has almost same specs like Arc. :crying:
I couldn't make up my mind, which OS is better. Gingerbread or ICS.
So I did some real life testing by flashing it several times each after other. And using it.
My conclusion. ICS is significantly faster then GB. Yes it is. Period!!
I'm having GB right now on my Arc S with doomlord's kernel and ICS on stock kernel is faster!! That's it.
Gingerbread is smoother in scrolling and moving inside home. Smoother but not faster.
And some games/apps are not ICS compatible or updated and that is issue for early adopter.
Also, Sony bugged LED notifications and LockScreen notifications that could be corrected on ICS easily by applying already available mods. And sony could improve it easily if they want to.
And JB make smoother scrolling and moving around (touch) on ICS core. That's Google's official explanations (there are more features inside, yes I know).
So we must have it!
Fact what guy in UK sad, are not final. If we make big enough protest, they will do it for Arc S, Neo V and Ray. And then and Arc and Neo owners could use it as they did with ICS 4.0.3.
And please, do NOT compare ICS and JB on 4 core chips. Yes everything is very smooth on them.
Also, since I own and HTC android phone, see what's going with HTC.
They f.cked up Desire owners (me), now and Desire HD owners. And look at their last report. No money even for a fair trade in domestic Taiwan.
And I'm sure there will be JB for Arc/Arc S. At least from FreeXperia.
Just after one major laggy update and sony already stopping update for arc..
So how about Xperia Neo L? No Jelly Bean, too? It is a 2012 phone but the same with the 2011 Xperia phones.
Let's see if their below 1GHz phones will get Jelly Bean (miro, tipo)
It is acceptable but a bit disappointing.
Sent from my LT15i using xda app-developers app
Sony would be rolling out JB preferably for 2011 devices as jb requires the same config as on ICS. If you remember the days of Xperia X10 Sony wasn't going to release GB for it but due to user protests X10 was given official support for GB. This may be the case for Xperia 2011 portfolio..
cyanogen team has said, that device capable running ICS, will be capable running JB too.
so it must be SONY's marketing strategy related, Nexus S got similiar spec with Arc, and still can handle ICS better than our Arc.
hope that FXP will continue updating our arc to CM10, or at least CM9 that runs as smooth as Nexus S ICS. :fingers-crossed:
this is bad news for me i have arc and i'm dissapointed because arc will not have jelly bean
If this is true, i will never buy another Sony phone NEVER AGAIN.
I miss the Sonyericsson brand, SONY clearly SUCKS now.
I think that the ICS update is so laggy because of their software! Roms like JJ doctor AOSP Rom is super smooth (even with stock kernel). Sony should have make a better work for our 2011 xperia devices....
Sent from my LT18i using xda app-developers app
yup.. its a dirty market strategy...trust me guys i have used 4.1...it is far btr than ICS..our arc will be damn smooth if we get 4.1...they just want us to buy a new phone..
from wat i heard dere is a lil chance of arc s getting the update..if the above is official then there is no chance..
sony is a sinking ship is all products..it was running lil fine in smartphone industry...looks like this industry is also going to die for them!!
Here is the list of phones that can exept 4.1
Will get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean:
Xperia T
Xperia TX
Xperia V
Xperia S
Xperia acro S
Xperia ion
Xperia P
Xperia go
Xperia J
**Xperia T, TX og V gets update to 4.1 in middle of first quarter of 2013
Wont get updated to 4.1:

And you miss the most important thing...
We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.
Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.

Seriously, my phone runs much smoother in JB than on ICS... Thnk you SONY -.-
Seriously Sony's multimillionaire software department can't make a good JB firm for Neo/Arc/S and can do it for Xperia J?
Disappointing but expected news. I'm personally not surprised. It's most likely for marketing. And anyways it's been almost 2 years already since their release. I guess Sony wants everyone to buy their current and future lineup of Xperias.
We should also be thankful that Sony upgraded our phones to ICS. LG isn't even upgrading their 2011 phones as far as I know.

Then, if an update is released, then you moan even more about all the little problems it has.
They are not your slaves. Give them time to work, you are not the only customers out there. Besides, your phone is not the only one there.
But atleast they should have update arc s to jb isnt 1.4 ghz enough for jb wtf they was saying that they are checking the devices etc.

I only don't understand why they don't upgrade the arc s... But I think this is the biggest problem with android. Look to samsung, the sgs plus was released almost the same time as the arc s, has similar parts and price and didn't even got ics...
I think the problem is that Sony is lazy to do the JB upgrade. JB requires same requirements as ics the only down side is the 512 mb memory but other phone with the same phone power will still deliver the JB hope they can get back in there word qnd deliver JB to us.

Best way is ..more of us ...to don't buy any sony phone ,because they take this fkkk solution ....not to give us ..the owner of 1.4 GHz ..sony device ..a taste of JB...., that's shame ...
I will sell my device and bye a decent phone....( to have 1GB RAM , front facing camera , enough internal storage .., not like this ..420 MB...., and also a decent battery .) , because I don't want to spend all my money to bye a new phone ..every 5 months ...
This is why I'm getting a Samsung phone next year. Samsung's flagship model from 2011 got JellyBean. and what is more pathetic, JB is incomparably smoother and faster than ICS.
time to change brand!
Well, the last few weeks I've been confused whether my next device will be a Nexus, a Lumia or an Xperia,
now I just need to choose between the first two
(Not that Lumia will surely provide better support, I want to know how good/bad is WP8 through experience, I'll keep the arc S though, still the sexiest phone I've ever had)

Don't get me wrong, I would love to be wrong They are currently doing big efforts to be efficient and that why I bought a sony device in the first place.
They are the first to reply at the google announce so I hope for the best.
I would like to suggest the DEV Team to pay special attention to the Camera and Audio quality on the latest Xperia 2013 line , Using the the exmor sensor and as it was hyped the quality is just horrible and unacceptable from a sony device.
Just release the AOSP for this! Then the "XDA Dev Team" *lol* can take over..

I dont think so. Because Sony already gave a statement that it will skip 4.2 for Xperia SP und move directly to 4.3

No they didn't. Where the f did you even read that? They both implied that the SP update won't come early august and that they won't be skipping 4.2. That or they don't know how to write news releases.
Straight from sonys website:
So, Sony’s Jelly Bean 4.2 upgrade for Xperia Z and Xperia ZL is well underway* – next up, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z will start receiving 4.2 from early August.
Yesterday you probably saw Google announce the next version of Jelly Bean (Android 4.3) – we’re already getting stuck in and can confirm we’ll make 4.3 available for: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra…
We’re also looking at uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3 – we’ll share more info / deets / timings when we can, so be sure to follow @SonyMobileNews for all the latest.

Just stumbled across this article of how Sony will realese 4.3 to Some Devices, , Sonys still In the game lookin around so if were Lucky then we might get 5.0,
WEBPAGE
Thanks for sharing, here is the article from the link above:
As it usually happens when Google announces a new version of Android, even a relatively minor one like 4.3, all eyes are turned on manufacturers for announcements regarding the rollout of the respective update.
For Android 4.3, the first OEM to step forward is Sony, which announced in a blog post that is working with Google and Qualcomm to prepare the update for several recent devices:
Xperia Z
Xperia ZL
Xperia ZR
Xperia Tablet Z
Xperia SP
Xperia Z Ultra
These all devices released in the recent months powered by Qualcomm processors (just like the new Nexus 7). In addition to the list above, Sony also said that it plans to skip the Android 4.2 update for some devices, and bring them directly to the latest Android 4.3 version. It’s not known yet which devices will get this treatment.
Also, no word yet on the timeline of the Android 4.3 update for Sony devices, but the company promised that more information would be coming as soon as possible.
Two other major manufacturers, Samsung and HTC, were unfortunately less forthcoming about their Android 4.3 update plans. Both companies produce Google Play Edition phones (our reviews: HTC One GPe and Galaxy S4 GPe), which Google said yesterday will be updated “soon”.
As for regular devices, Samsung told Tech Radar that it “will confirm upgrade plans to Android 4.3 to selected Galaxy devices in the coming months”, while HTC claimed to be currently “reviewing Android 4.3 to see how this update fits into our plans”. In non-PR speak, neither company has info to share at this moment.
One manufacturer known for speedy Android updates is Asus, the maker of both generations of the Nexus 7. To our knowledge, the Taiwanese company hasn’t revealed anything yet, though we do expect an announcement in the coming weeks.

Side note, although its nice that Sony always seems to be quick to mention what devices are getting what updates, fast, however this article of course obviously pertains to only 2013 devices, no 2012 and of course definately no 2011 devices.
Actually, some devices running 4.1 may get bumped to 4.3. They didn't say only for 2013 devices.
"We’re also looking at uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3 – we’ll share more info / deets / timings when we can, so be sure to follow @sonymobileNews for all the latest."
But yea, no hope for 2011 devices, lol.

Our phone isn't running 4.1 lol. They are not updating any 2011 devices
Beamed into time from Eternity
Yep but if by lucky we might be able to compile the 3.x kernel sooner and get at least 4.1 with good performance and battery or even better 4.2.2,

Actually if someone can donate their play (if they have an extra) to mike he'll build it for us. Ozzmanjunior already contacted him about sending him his extra r800x but I don't know what they've decided on

even if you could have a 4.3 xperia play, would it be functionally with all the controls and work at a high speed without lag?

Controls no but working at full soured maybe possible just not games. But there's lots of people who don't really gave much anymore so jelly bean will be perfect for them

I think 5.0 optimizations will make games run smooth and just possibly some 1 could find a controls fix atleast!

well..that can be true..but beeing realistic we cant hope too much on this for touchpads/gamepads working..maybe we can get a fix...better is wait and see,but to be true im not a touchscreen play fan..i like too much my controls, specially gamepads..touchpads i dont use that much.
our phone specifications cant handle too much..above all, 512 ram is...at least short.
