G2 text message pop up - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I don't know about anyone else but it seems I lost the incoming text messages pop up window that use to appear right below notification bar on left side. It used show up whenever I received a text message and the phone was on and in another app or another message thread I believe. Now I haven't seen it at all and can't get it to show up. I noticed this today and I wonder of it has anything to do with rooting the phone and using the gmd auto nav bar app but that's all I have changed. Has anyone else noticed this?

I still get it after root. It would make sense to me that if you modified the bar it would cause this to not work.

Go into the messaging. Press menu, then settings, then notification. Check all three check boxes.

boot into recovery, wipe cache and D-cache and fix permissions in advanced
EDIT if that fails disable the modded on screen keys and see if it returns and/or start disabling all mods until you find the culprit

Haven't flashed custom recovery yet. I tried removing gmd app but still doesn't show up.

if you dont have custom recovery but have root use flash gordon to wipe both cache

I'm having the same issue, all the sttings are in place to see the pop up but no dice. I've only flashed the camera mod but i flashed back to stock thinking that's what may have caused it. Still dies not work, i tried fixing permissions wiping both cache and still nothing.contemplating doing a factory reset but I'm hoping i won't have to.

im having the same issue here too. i havent flashed and mods. it was working this morning, then all of a sudden it stop. ive gone thru all the settings, rebooted and cleared dalvik/cache and still nothing :/ i might try a factory reset to see what happens, although id prefer not to....

Happened to me too, not sure what to do. I was thinking about reinstalling the factory apk since I have root but been too lazy to get it from someone.

I haven't even realized this. Thinking it happened here as well. Phone one still works. GF textud me during gaming and I didn't see it pop. Nav and status bar mod here. Not sure if it happened after root or what. VS980.

just an update to my post:
i did a factory reset and that brought it back. pop-up text messages is working

If a factory reset did it, I shoukd reinstall the factory apk and I bet it will work.

I made a back up right after i rooted also at the time i know for a fact that pop up sms worked so im flashing that then restoring my data through titanium. That should do the trick.
Update: worked. Maybe it's one of the mods that's causing this.

Mine started doing this. I have GMD installed. I'm on Sprint. I freezer lots of apps and just started using greenify to hibernate some apps.
I really don't want to factory restore. Ugh I liked that feature.

the common theme in the posts that say their text msg pop up is not working is GMD.

Android is upgrading message everytime I reboot phone.

This wasn't happening yesterday. Every morning I reboot my phone when j remove from the Wireless charger to prevent the wireless charger wakelock.
This morning however I notice that everytime I reboot I get the Android is upgrading message as if I just performed a OTA.
The phone finishes the upgrade and looks and acts fine bit if I reboot again it does it again.
Anyone else experience this before? Its still happening if I reboot everytime.

Clear cache and maybe load a new kernel maybe?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
if you didnt do it yourself, then its either an app, a mod, or the rom/kernel that youre running. whats happening is that your dalvik-cache is getting wiped then rebuilt on boot.
I'm on stock 4.2.2 rooted and running motley kernel. Have been running this setup for a month no and no issues and haven't installed any weird apps that could do this.

I think it happens when you wipe davlik with apps disabled.
if it only pops up for a second or so, don't worry about it.
It was the beats audio root app (paid version) I noticed it would consistently say permission granted even when the phone was idle.
Uninstalled the drivers using the inapp uninstaller and now no more message when rebooting.
Anyone know why this app clears dalvik cache every reboot?

i use the beats+xlouder flashable mod, and it clears dalvik upon flashing. its nonsense that the app clears dalvik after a reboot, i definitely wouldnt be happy with it.

Thank you for sharing what was the problem.
I have found fix for this error, it is mainly due to odex files which are created by lucky patcher so deleting these files using lucky patcher itself will surely remove this error with 50 percent success rate. Here's the fix; open lucky patcher, there in lower left section you can see Toolbox, click Toolbox button then select 4th last option i.e Remove all odex files. Thats it android will reboot on itself and vola no android is upgrading. .
Check out attachement for help.

Ok I really screwed the pooch on this one. I'm not sure how I did it but I used the cf auto root and cw recovery and flashed the wanalite rom and everything was fine. Then I wanted to try out a new rom so I flashed a cm 10 rom and had no data except wifi. When I turn wifi off there's no little 3g icon and also I can't make calls anymore. There's no little bars at the top only a little circle with a line through it. Ive tried factory reset, flashing the original firmware, messing with the apn settings and so on. Anyone help please?

A little more info. I flashed twrp recovery and used that to make a back up. Then I wiped all the stuff you're supposed to before flashing a new ROM. Now here's where I screwed up. I then wiped the data. The one on the right that makes you type in the word yes to wipe it. I didn't realize it would wipe out all my back up s and everything. So now I can't get my phone to work. If I have to end up taking it in for an insurance claim what should I do. Unroot and use triangle away. Then tell them my problems. I really don't know what to do here. I need your help as I'm not very good at this stuff. Anyone have any fixes?

Best I can tell ya is download a pre rooted rom, should be a mega thread of them and install via odin.
Real simple instructions there.
That should get you back to normal.
Gd luck

Sorry , you're unlucky man. You just wipe all partitions including EFS (IMEI/baseband lost). Only thing is sending the phone to Samsung service and maybe they will change the motherboard or reflash it. No ROM/firmware contains those hidden partitions so flashing your own will not help .

What does your phone display if you call the following?

I think that your phone is quite messed up, from the installation point of view.
You have to try to get totally back to stock.
Get your FW from sammobile (the one that matches country, operator, etc). Get stock recovery. Install both, then do (several) factory resets. It should work....
I would not go on very high level workarounds (reinstall PIT< etc), as you might totally brick your phone.

i doubt the usb port will change anything mate...i still have the circle with the line, not sure what to do right now. i have flashed everything to stock, rom, kernel and recovery still same ****
I had same issue on mine but mine is all stock (for now). I had to go back to the settings and pick network operator again in order for it to pick up the network again.
Well I got it fixed. I had to fully unroot then run triangle away and then take it to the sprint store. All they did was a hard reset (not a factory reset but something with their computer) and everything was back to normal. Whew thought I was going to have to get a new phone.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
hi, did you check first in your apn list if the settings were present (connexions - more networks - mobile networks - access point names )? If not present check on your operator website to get the information needed. Normally It should have helped you with this problem
Yeah I messed with that for hours. In many different roms. I think I did every thing I possibly could except for hard reset.

4G not working

So. My 4G data (Sprint, S4. Rooted, but stock ROM and such) stopped working. Updated PRL and Profile. It works for a minute and stops. Restore backup. It works then stops after 5 mins. Update prl and profile in the Sprint app, it works and then stops 1 minute later.
Did a factory reset (still rooted) and it worked for a while. Came home, connected to wifi. Decide to try it now and it's out.
I also had the hotspot mod installed. Used it a bit last night.
Could it be the hotspot mod or root? Or an app issue?

Oh good, I'm not the only one! Happened to me today as well, exact same setup (rooted, stock ROM, hotspot mod). I also factory reset and got it working again, but mine is still connecting, it's just slow as ****.
If you find a reason/solution elsewhere, please LMK.
If it matters, I am now showing as Custom in status and in download mode.

I unrooted. Going to factory reset now. Is there any way to get back to stock recovery?

MDL. Updated in the Sprint store at first. I can't find the file for MDL. I assume I would place it in... PDA? Which slot in odin?
So now that I'm unrooted, I would flash that first? Is there a stock MDL to flash?
In other words, on MDL, can I just use the one click MDC package after unrooting to go back to that? It appears that it restores stock recovery too.
Here is a link to stock recovery http://d-h.st/Ube flash in Odin use the pda option auto reboot and f reset time. Then boot in to recovery by powering off and holding power and volume up until you see recovery booting in the left corner then let go. Then do a factory reset and cache wipe. If all else fails once booted up in android dial ##72786# it will reactivate your phone it fixed some of my connectivity issues.

Yes it will. If you don't want to just dial ##72786# and it will reactivate your phone that could fix it try that first if that fails do the factory reset and dial that again to reactivate it.

Both me and the other guy in this topic on the same day and same conditions though? Seems somewhat odd.
Same areas? Maybe towers are going through maintenance. I know my tower near my house did. I was at dinner in a high 4g signal area and I only had1 bar of 3g. Very unusual for this area. As I left the restaurant it took forever to update to more bars and wouldn't connect to 4g for a few miles. Same issue? Idk. I'm in Michigan. I do know towers are still under testing phase here. Maybe for you guys too? Just because you have 4g doesn't mean the tower is official and out of test phase.

Problem uninstalling anything.

Like the title says, friends. I, for the first time since I got my tn7,tried to uninstall an app. Specifically giant boulder of death. As soon as I confirmed I wanted to uninstall, the device crashes! About half a second after the crash, I'm greeted by the evga/tegra boot animation, and 5 seconds after that, I'm back on. Tried 20 other apps, all of them cause this, every single time. Has this happened to anyone else? Can I fix without rooting?
Sent from my TegraNote-P1640 using xda app-developers app
1) Try uninstalling by using some "Install/Uninstall app" from play store.
2) If you know to use "adb shell pm" command, then install adb usb drivers, and try the command.
3) Factory reset the device from settings.
4) Try to "clear the data and cache" of play store and download manager apps from "Settings-> Apps -> [Play Store/Download Manager]"
I've only ever tried fastboot. Do I need to root?
Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I had this problem, tried numerous things. You are in luck though solved it. Download ROM tools or boot animations and force it to remove boot animation. Should work fine now, it might work still if you swap the boot animation for another, odd bug.

I haven't had this issue yet but it does have problems from time to time. When I have problems I usually wipe data on app and reboot and sign in again and its fine. I always make sure I have an old backup too using titanium backup cuz sometimes the updates cause issues and I'll just roll back. My advice is use XDA app maybe and try tapa again in a week or so maybe it will work again. Idk. Looks like you've already tried what you can and its not working.. Hope you get it fixed.
