I have had my SGS4 since June running CM with no issues connecting to LTE, but I recently tried PA android and could only connect to H+ as the fastest network connection and Network Mode defaulted to WCDMA preferred and could get no network connection at all if I changed from that. I tried going back to CM and still had the same issue. Reflashed stock using Odin and have since tried Shostock and CM again, but still cannot connect to LTE. I also tried my sim in my Nokia Lumia and get LTE on that so there doesn't seem to be an issue with my plan or sim card.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Sorry if this is a silly question, but in the interests of ruling out all possibilities: Are you sure that it's the actual connection, and not just the icons? Maybe you're used to seeing a 4G/LTE icon that isn't used in another ROM.
It wouldn't really make sense if you went back to CM and that issue persists, unless an icon setting is preventing you from seeing the icon. It might be worth checking the settings, because as I recall there are plenty of ways to customise your icon area.

I am sure it is LTE and not an icon issue, Before flashing PA I was getting 30-40mbps and now the highest data speed I can get it 3-6mbps. If I set the network mode to GSM/WCDMA/LTE (which is what it has always defaulted to before) I cannot connect to a the AT&T network until I set it back to WCDMA preferred. As I mentioned in my previous post it is only this phone, with the Windows Phone I tested using the sim worked fine on LTE. Also as I mentioned this happens on several roms, and has continued after a complete reset to the factory rom using Odin.
Hello dear XDA Community,
I have an american Nexus 6P (used with Verizon) which is currently used with a Russian cell carrier "MegaFon"
I had troubles with connecting to their LTE, for some reason my phone just wouldn't connect to the LTE and only stick to HSPA or HSPA+ even though an iPhone near me gets LTE signal just fine, the SIM card is fine in the other phone as well. So I started messing with my phone to find if I could fix it, first I started with going back to full stock, that didn't help, the phone still only accepted HSPA signal. Then I tried multiple ROMs and Stock Images but the issue of not connecting to LTE persisted. Then I found out about *#*#4636#*#* menu (aka Phone Info menu) and I started messing with it, which again did not do any good until I hit the menu button and pressed Select Radio Band (P.S. please don't mess with those settings) where I tried selecting all 3 different "GSM/UMTS" Bands. I tried USA band, Band mode 6 and Band mode 7, but this just broke down my signal completely, I cannot connect back to the carrier network no matter what I did. I've tried factory resetting, flashing radio img's, flashing stock/custom. NOTHING HAD HELPED/WORKED
I'm now stuck with a phone that doesn't work at all, and I'm on business trip so I'm just pulling out my hair for messing with those settings in the first place.
Does anybody know a possible fix to this? How could I go back to what I had before even though I tried all kinds of forms of factory resetting the phone
I really beg for your guys' help
Thank You
EDIT: Found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/recovering-usa-band-to-auto-mode-4636-t3271347 gonna try that right now
EDIT2: That modified ROM helped! But I still don't get 4G
Have you tried removing the SIM card, rebooting the phone, then going into the Phone info menu and setting the preferred network type to LTE/GSM auto (PRL)? Maybe afterr another reboot with the SIM inserted the phone will connect.
Also check the APN settings -- they might have changed.

I think I've tried it, I'll give it another try after seeing if flashing this one ROM where you can select Auto Band in 4636 menu that I linked in the edit would work.
APN settings were fine.
Thanks
EDIT: That ROM helped! But I still don't get 4G
Looks like the post you linked should do the trick. Good luck!

I have the same problem. My Huawei is Portuguese and the sms work and the internet to but no signal radio. Wen I dial a number tells me no radio found. Can somebody help me? Thanks
At work on Friday I was trying to do anything but work. So, I took the sim out of my work iPhone and put it in my 6P. After booting I noticed it wouldnt connect to 4G/LTE, didn't think much of it. Turned off, the put correct sims back in phones. iPhone boots with LTE connection with work sim, 6P boots with 3G connection with personal sim. Hm.
I tried toggling Airplane mode, data on/off. Tried various 'LTE OnOff' apps. Dialed *#*#4636#*#*, reset APN to default, cleared cache in Storage menu. Wait until I get home, flash latest Android M image (except userdata). No changes after boot, still only connecting to 3G.
Now I've flashed Jan/Feb/March images, no luck on any. Tried Android N, still 3G only...
When I put my personal sim into my Moto X, I have LTE connection and speeds.
Looking for help???

I thought I remember my phone originally being in 'Global' mode
Anyways, my choices are
Global
LTE/CDMA
LTE/GSM/UMTS
I dont have an LTE Only option. I switched to LTE/CDMA, restart. No change. Same when choosing LTE/GSM/UMTS.
Toggle Airplane mode to kick it back to LTE. I've tried a few fixes including changing APN Type but that hasn't fixed it, still happens.
EDIT: Skimmed over the part where you said you tried it, sorry. Try changing the APN type to "default, admin, mms, supl, fota, hipri, dun" in that order.

I tried your APN settings and the settings from this site (https://apn.gishan.net/settings/1259_13_verizon_apn_settings_for_huawei_nexus_6p.php)...no luck
Using the same sim card (my personal one that previously worked in the 6P).....
The *#*#4636#*#* menu is showing Network Type: EvDo-rev.A on the 6P and LTE on Moto X
Speedtest on 6P shows - D:2.61 Mbps U: 1.13Mbps
Speed test on Moto x- D43.62Mbps U:20.37Mbps
Speed test on iPhone - D: 34.99 U:18.74
This tells me it's not a sim card issue but something changed on my 6P
Took it one step further, went all the way back to stock, wipe userdata, fastboot flashing lock. Reboot, still 3G.

I'm having the same problem with 6P on t-mobile since last week when I applied April update.
T-mobile say there are no issues with local cell towers, Google pointing finger at t-mobile
saying: " appears that the phone is receiving a signal that is switching the cellular data to Edge which is an older technology. It is possible that your device is receiving a signal from an older tower. Older towers do not work well with newer multi-band devices and this could be causing the issue".
I'm talking to t-mobile again to confirm they've not got any issues, but given the timing and given the fact that I see this on all the local towers I'm more suspicious about the phone/software, but we'll see.
I've tried factory reset, replacement sim reflashing a few different versions of stock rom.
I'm currently (slowly) working my through the logs in the bug report. It's slow going but interesting reading.
Do you remember what versions of the radio rom you've tried?

I have that network type selected. When i select a different band, should i expect something to happen? Do I need to restart?
Got a new sim card yesterday as well, no difference.
Looks like I may have fixed it!
Did not work:
-flashing images for MMB29P, MHC19I, MHC19Q, NPC91K (DP2 ANDROID N)
-New sim
-Messing with APNs, toggling airplane mode, selecting different bands in *#*#4636#*#* menu
I knew when I originally rec'd the phone, everything worked. So I figured, why not try the original original images?
Solution: Go back to stock! Flashed MDA89D and my LTE is back.
-As soon as it booted, I made test calls/texts. *#*#4636#*#* shows Network Type: LTE and Preferred Network Type: LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
-APN page lists 6 APNs (it wasnt doing this when I only had 3G) and selected by default is VZWINTERNET
-Update to 6.0.1 immediately popped up as well. LTE still active after update! (This takes you to the December Security update. Then you go month-by-month to most recent)
My problem is obviously different as I'm on t-mobile but f.y.i.
I flashed October's image (MDB08K) which is an image that doesn't support the newer LTE bands (eg 12) and now I have LTE again.
[Q] Stuck on "EDGE". How can I change the Network under "SIM Status" ?
I'm running Dirty Unicorns 9.8 OFFICIAL (5.1.1) on my Nexus 4. The other day I noticed I had like one or two bars so went into Settings > About phone > Status > SIM Status and clicked "Network". Usually, there are a handful of providers to use there and sometimes changing to a different one improves my reception (This is a T-Mobile phone). I don't remember what I left it on.
Today the phone is stuck on "EDGE" under "Cellular Network Type". I tried to get back in the "Network" to check and see if I left it on something stupid, but I can't get back into the provider selection. No matter what I do, the device won't hook up to "LTE" (whatever HSPA/HSPA+ thing T-mo says is LTE). Everything worked fine last week. Haven't applied any patches or anything other than messing around with the Network settings. Any idea what I might try? Is there a magic dialpad entry to use to reset the Network?
Thanks

Same problem here with metro pcs who uses T-mobile
After a few days of this, and several chats and calls to T-Mobile, it seems T-Mobile is "working on towers" in my area and things will be like this for a few days. The situation is this according to the last phone call with T-mobile:
* HSPA+ is no longer available on the towers in my area
* LTE and GSM (Edge) are the only supported modes
* LTE is not supported on the Nexus 4. tuff-shizz. buy a new phone.
Ok well this sucks... so here's what I did in the past couple days.
* Installed Chroma ROM and the the LTEEnable zip file thing floating around all the forums here.
* Found out Chroma was a rebranded AOSP ripoff so uninstalled it.
* flashed Dirty Unicorns 6.0.1 to my Nexus 4, bluetooth seemed funky so flashed the .33 radio from "dmitry" ROM that I found on several threads. Also flashed LTEEnable zip, not sure I needed it. LTE now working.
* dialed *#*#4636#*#* and went into "Phone Info"
* Network Type: "LTE"
* Set Preferred Network Type: LTE/GSM (PRL) -- originally had this set to "LTE only" but no voice calls could go out, or come in.
You would think this is the end of story, but wait. Voice calling takes 20 seconds to connect (even voice mail). With "LTE only" settings all incoming calls go directly to voice mail. never even rings the phone. Are you shizzing me?? With "LTE/GSM (PRL)" the phone waits for 20 seconds to drop from LTE back to "Edge" before the call finally hooks up.
Today, found out nexus 4 doesn't do VOLTE (Voice Over LTE). at least thats what google said. That would explain the Drop to "Edge" when dialing out.
Thing is, I tried this with a NEXUS 5 on my account, using two different sims , running stock Android Whatever on the N5 and it does the EXACT SAME THING. dropping calls to "Edge" before connecting. Takes 20 seconds to dial out. Incoming calls on LTE (which the n5 runs by default) all go to voicemail.
So it seems the workaround now is to dial the "magic number" above and set the "Preferred Network" to "GSM only" (Edge). That's the only way to get phone calls in or out of either device on T-Mobile's network today. Don't bother trying to Google anything though because it won't re-connect to LTE to do it. On either my hacked N4 or the stock ROM N5. You may as well be using a dial-up modem to get any data through either phone.
So, in the end, I don't have anything screwed up under "Network Settings". I'm stuck in "Edge" mode because Tmo is updating towers for LTE. It remains to be seen if I have to upgrade both and N4 and N5 to stay on T-Mobile however. The next few days will tell. I still think this is a bit of a ****-move on T-Mobile's part. Especially if I have to upgrade the N5. It's an expense I wasn't planning on. They could at least kick in some rebate to help out with the cost of new devices. No idea if it would save any money to switch carriers at this point.
Hi,
did anyone using Umi Super have any problems with using 4G at 800MHz? Im on giffgaff and even though Umi Super is supposed to work at 4G under 800MHz (thats what the specification states) i cant manage to make it work. I have perfect 4G coverage, 4G sim, 4G tariff, even gave my sim to a friend with S7 edge and it worked on his phone. Maybe new update will fix that? I tried with different sim from different operator (LYCA) and it works but 4G in LYCA is at 2100MHz so I didnt really check the 800. I tried everything and still nothing. Did anyone have similar problem?
I actually bought 2 phones of the same model so I decided to check if 4G worked on the other one and as I put the sim card in I just remembered something and realized same thing happened with my phone. When I put the SIM card in for the first time it DID automatically go to 4G, ok, when I looked for available networks it found O2 4G, granted BUT!!! when i got to "preferred network type" there is only 3G to pick, and THE MOMENT I PICK IT there is not possible to go back. Every network I find from that moment is only 2G or 3G. Now i reckon that a software problem right? See attachments
It is a software bug and I think I sort it out after flashing the phone. For now I sorted out the problem using Networks app by Philipp Mangalov and switching network to LTE/GSM auto
Well it seems the data part of the UMI SUPER is not so super, is it? I face a similar problem but worse. The 4G band of 800 doesn't work(despite being advertized by UMI as supported) but luckily the band of 2100 works without any issues. The problem comes when I'm out of 2100 band coverage and phone must switch to 3G - then I lose all data connectivity completely. So basically whenever I'm out of 4G 2100 coverage(which is often) I am without any connectivity! Anyone facing the same? Solution?

I don't have this issue at all. My UMi Super connects perfectly to my 4g network under 800MHz without an issue here in Uganda. You can install the MTK Engineering app from the play store and check the band compatibility on ur device and you can also set the mode using the same app under android settings.
You could also try updating to the latest OTA which is 20160810 or the one before it by downloading the files from forum post here and saving them to ur phone and updating manually if you don't have the current OTA

This is indeed a software issue, one I have come accross many times - using an app to toggle between the service types is the best workaround!
There are many apps that work to resolve this, some great ones have already been mentioned.

try this app:

You need Giff Gaff settings in access point name. If you try and use O2 4g it doesn't work even though Giff Gaff uses O2 network. Settings are really easy to input but MUST be Giff Gaff not O2.

All that's needed is GiffGaff settings inputing manually. Very easy to do. O2 settings that the phone recognises when a GiffGaff sim is used WILL NOT WORK. The Network is O2 but the APN settings for GiffGaff are totally different.
All you guys that think you know what you're doing obviously don't.
No need to Root or use GravityBox or any other App.

Well said. I just shake my head in despair when I see how totally clueless people try to be teachers and Internet gurus with very limited knowledge about the task at hand. These comments should come with warning stickers.
For those who want to be able to switch between 3G/4G and LTE only, use this nifty little APK that I've attached below. It will allow you to enter engineer mode without using the dial code.
Hi
This is a bug implemented in Android 7.0.
I had the same.
1 Just force in your parameters 2G/3G networks
2 wait for network authentification (no more excalamtion mark)
3 go back to 4G
Every thing will be OK to next switch off or plane mode.
Rgds,
LTE band 7 (2600) not working
I recently received my new Umi Super and updated to the last firmware V7.01_20170413, everything works fine except for the 4G. I live in an area where band 7 (2600) is available but the phone can't connect to it. Of course, my preferred network type is set to 4G/3G/2G (auto).
I read a lot about the issue on the internet but I can't find a solution.
I checked the BandMode on the phone by dialing *#*#3646633#*#*, band 7 is included and checked. However, when I tried to remove the other LTE bands and keep only band 7, I got a message explaining that the list can't be empty ("Failed. The band is changed from not null to null, it is illegal"), though the list was not completely empty because band 7 was still selected.
Also, I tried to change the radio band by dialing *#*#4636#*#*, but process com.android.phone stopped working when I pressed "select radio band", even after I cleared cache in phone and sim apps.
Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem and get connected to 4G.
BTW, Network by Philipp Mangelow is not available anymore. Switching between 3G/2G and 4G/3G/2G settings doesn't fix the issue. I tried the giffgaff settings, but the APN gets deleted as soon as I try to save it.
Thanks

You may try to force 3G and then try to force 4G
You may try to user another IMEI number from a UMI device with 2600 support (of course backup/write down the original one before just in case)
http://www.ucc.co.ug/data/imei/2
After the update to Nougat 7.x how long does it take to do a full recharge?
Do you still have fast charge feature (< 1 hour) or do you lost it like all users reported so far?
What about your GPS? Do you have a fast fix after cleaning history and is it reliable (not losing signal often?).

What about your GPS? Do you have a fast fix after cleaning history and is it reliable (not losing signal often?).

Is it safe to change the IMEI number? and where can I find another number for a UMI device?
GPS is working fine, it fixes pretty fast, but I'm not sure about interruption in the signal because I haven't used it enough yet
