Hi, I'm new here. I would like to just introduce myself so hi, I'm Troy.
Anyways, I have been romming/flashing/rooting for quite a while.
Coming from a Motorola Triumph, and now finally getting the Nexus 4.
Currently I am unlocked, rooted, and running the PAC rom.
Long story short, I feel like I haven't given anything back to the romming/flashing/rooting community,
and I figure you guys could always use another person. I'd like to get into buildings roms and such.
Where can I find tutorials on how to do pretty much everything that has to do with building roms?
Thanks ahead of time, have a good night!

Awesome, thanks a lot.
Would it be possible to allow me to post in the development threads? That's where I spend most of my time and I don't want to spam just to get to 10 post. LOL

Hello everyone...
I want so badly to be able to post in teh Dev section to thank people for their work, but I do not have enough posts to do so...
I am a lurker - new to the Android world and loving every second of it... I generally do not believe in superfluous posts, but I need to simply reach 10 so I can thank people for their hard work and assist anyone running into issues that I also hit...
That said, I wanted to let you all know that I installed Blackhole 4.2 yesterday and it is wonderful. So as soon as it drops on here, consider it. I am using the phone that I have always wanted - and I am sure it will stay exactly the way it is for at least a week or two... until the next big exciting change gets made.
I truley never thought I would enjoy tinkering with a phone, modding bits and pieces of it so much... Sure, I have been modding cars for years, but now a phone... I am hooked and I want to thank this community for the wealth of info that we find in here and the good attitudes that go along with it...
Samsung Fascinate, EB01, Blackhole 4.2 FTW
Thank you Sonofskywalker3 for ALL your hard work!!
Good wirte up until you hit the "good attitudes that go along with it."
make a bad step an XDA and this place can be a bear!!
There's a thank you button for that. ;-)
Btw .... glorious ... Blackhole. I giggled a little.

Yep Blackhole is the heat. I was going to start a new thread until I searched..lol but Im gonna give Blackhole (sonofskywalker3) and Super Dark (thatdudebutch) a huge shoutout. I've been using this combo from the beginning and have no reason to change up. Do yourself a favor and give it a try when it drops!!

Are you a VIP? I don't see the rom anywhere, so you must have the VIP privilege to download it before everyone else.
Its available now. Check development section and/or rom manager.
I actually like my Fascinate

Hello, I'm a noob to rooting, but figured I'd slip in a hello, I barely got my Evo 4G rooted with Revolutionary since going to 2.3. I used to do a lot of iPhone jail breaking and figured this would be the same....I'm learning that it's not...still not sure what a kernel really is hah, anyway, yeah. Hello.

I was getting ready to post a question, then i searched it and there was my answer, but it came with a new question....which the answer was found the same way, people weren't kidding about this site when they tell me you can literally find anything here. Looking forward to getting more active here. Cheers.
Welcome to android. This site has really helped me learn a lot and I now feel comfortable modding all sorts of things on my evo. And like it was said, always search. There is a ton of info on here and if you can't find an answer, there are plenty of people to help

Hello and welcome! Lots of info here, just start browsing.
Welcome. Agree with the OP about reading.
What I did to help me learn before rooting my Evo was to just read through the threads in Q&A and General. It gave me a lot of small bits of information that I didn't find in the guides and stickies, and really helped me familiarize myself with what I was getting into. Once I started knowing the answers to some of those questions, I tried to help out. That's really helped me to continue learning.
I'm in the process of doing it again for my boyfriend's Thunderbolt, trying to decipher what small differences there are between the two devices. I know it's usually the other way around - the boyfriend does the rooting stuff for his girl - but we're a couple of odd birds.
Anyway, great to see someone new taking the initiative to search out their questions! It's refreshing to say the least. Welcome to XDA

I had to help my boy root his Thunderbolt and I just skimmed through the Thunderbolt threads for a root method that look similar and one that a lot of people seemed to say had little to no problems and went with it. He came from an Iphone as well and now has become quite a flashaholic. Every time I see him he has a new theme or trying new stuff. From what I have seen from that forum we share some of the same developers so it should not be an issue for you.
Honestly I know a lot of people get scared when messing with their phone but most things are common sense and if in doubt a search in here will help you out. Always read the OP over and over till you feel you got it down....
Enjoy and welcome to Android and XDA ...

I second this as well. Really helped me out at first.
I'm a novice user at best, and just installed cyanogen 9, 4.0.3 with no problems. The verdict, its amazing! Seriously amazing how much faster EVERYTHING is. Menu's FLY, programs seem to pop up faster, and I can switch between the easier. I have a few widgets on my home-screens that made sliding back and forth dificult, now its SOO SMOOTH. It's like having a new phone.
I've barely read about the new features, but what I like best is....
- The voice-to-text tool is really cool. It does it word by word as your talking. I could be wrong, but it feels more accurate, not sure if that has changed or not.
- The camera app is cool because as soon as you take a picture, you have the option to share it via different programs.
- did i mention its wicked fast?
just my thoughts. Thanks to all the hard-work from the dev's that made this possible. I appreciate everything you guys do, and really enjoy reading in this forum and around the community.

I have been using oICSv43 for 3 days solid now. Not one bug so far. The battery seems to be better than my stock 2.3.7 I came from. It's just such a joy to use. If you're not on ICS yet, you're missing out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364221
Some of you know me from back in the day. I had a short switch to the galaxy S 4G. Great phone, but not the same development as the vibrant. My new city doesn't have 4G and I've never used the FFC.
Oka1 (Casey) is a tremendous guy... Top notch, and is sending me a vibrant.
So, happy to report I'll be spending a lot more time here again.
What's the latest craze? I assume the amazing ICS port I'm hearing about.
Any other guides needed or updates to mine? Let me know if I can try to help.

Welcome back Callip, Ive been running Neobuddy's Rom with Eugenes ICS kernel, i highly recommend it that said, it seems like development has resurged and some awesome things are happening.
I'd just like to say Hi-------------Hi
Seems that you left right when I was coming in so we only crossed paths here and there. Just so you know, I am always linking your Noob Guide to help people root and install CWR on their phones. It has proven a valuable resource for me and others.
If you ever need anything from me, just ask or PM. I am usually on during the days (with just browsing at night) and most weekends.

It is hysterical to me that it was over a year ago when I started the #NeverAgain campaign for Froyo... and now the Vibrant, of all devices, has one of the more solid ICS builds. THAT is irony.

So, finally my nexus 7 will be delivered on Tuesday. I'm neither new to android, nor to the world of nexus (Nexus S), but I don't have any experience with this piece of hardware. My first step will be rooting it, but are there any must-do things? Like on Nexus S Voodoo, NStools, etc. I know, there is no voodoo sound for nexus 7 (sigh...). I consider myself a poweruser, flashing, adb won't frighten me, so pretty much every customization is interesting for me which can give me even better user experience.
Thanks, and I'm very excited to be part of the n7 community!

When I read 'pimp my rom', i thought you were joking, never even heard of it, but most definitely will try on my Nexus S before the n7 arrives.

I don't understand why does it annoy You. I was looking for some advice to have a nice and easy start with the n7, wasn't posting stupid things to the development section. I thought general section is a good place for it, to spare me few hours of reading, if anyone cares to answer at all. I already got some nice suggestion how to start, and thank you for that.
If this thread hurts anyone in any way, let it closed or moved by a moderator.
Not one nexus s general threads were opened only to say farewell, when they sell their phones to get an other one, i don't see how is my thread any worse than those.
Look at using wugfresh toolkit 1.6.2, its well explained, can view it on YouTube. That will root, unlock and install a great very easy to use recovery image twrp. just a matter of flashing roms/kernels from recovery, easy peasy. Don't forget to take nandroid backups, titaniuim backup for apps backups is the best by far.
Take a look at the following to greatly enhance sound (which is dodgy with stock)

Right there is the problem. No one is paid to be here and no one is here to "spare you a few hours of reading." This is a self-service forum, not a help desk. Drop the entitlement attitude and do your own work. Most everything you need to know is in here, and if it isn't THEN ask. Is that too hard to understand? It's not whether the thread "hurts anyone in any way," it's about not clogging the forum with threads that can be answered by you doing a little work on your own. You said you weren't a noob, so you should know that this is how XDA operates.

I will stop here, and won't answer to that, or it'll never end.
Some did actually help, others shouldn't waste their time answering me. I was politely asking for suggestions, because it's worked that way on nexus s threads. Someone had a question, others answered, even if it was about rooting or flashing, which has been covered million times. If there was a thread about the same problem, we posted the link to there, he got help, moderators closed the thread. I searched and didn't find the right thread to ask my Q, so I opened one. I didn't mean any trouble, and also some people actually answered. I was excited to get my n7, and wanted to know more about it, now I'm discouraged.
