Is there a current method to do wifi tether on either Verizon or AT&T variant so far?

So from what I gather, at the time of this reply, the only working AT&T tether option is still only FoxFi via USB or bluetooth. Anyone have newer info than that? I have FoxFi USB tether working on my laptop no problem, but my Nexus 7 is still out in the cold.

I have the Verizon G2. This worked for me, but you need to be rooted - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338

When do you think the Verizon Note 3 will have root?

I'm going on vacation at the end of the month and always use my AP WiFi feature on my rooted Galaxy Nexus so we have internet in the hotel on our tablet and laptop.
I just pre-ordered the Galaxy Note 3 and VZ says it's shipping out no later that 10/10.
Does anyone think the genius devs on here will have root on the Note 3 soon after its release on VZ?
My friend has Tmobile and it's really easy for him to switch phones by swapping out the sim card. Is it just as easy to do the same thing with Verizon?
I might consider bringing two phones with me and leaving the Gnex in the hotel for wifi AP and then pop the sim into the Note 3 when we leave.
Any advice would be helpful!

I think it will, but I'm not a dev

If its 4G LTE phones then yes . If your talking about say a Droid Incredible or iPhone 4S to the Note 3 and back, then that's harder since older non 4G LTE phones on Verizon use pure CDMA (no SIM card). If your phone has a SIM (Gnex for example) then yes it is a simple swap.

Not a bad idea, but be careful, my brother left his iPad in a hotel in San Antonio, and when he came back later that night it was missing. He was never refunded a cent despite getting a police report etc.
Any advice would be helpful!

I, too, use my rooted GNex for wifi when traveling. It's a lifesaver! But correct me if I'm wrong, even though we may not have root right away, won't FoxFi work for tethering in the meantime? At least that's my plan. We're going away for Columbus day weekend and in the hopes I have my phone right before we leave, that's my plan. (Unless my wife has anything to say about it, I don't think she'll appreciate my weekend spent playing with my new toy)

the WiFi hotspot is my #1 reason for wanting root... I will say that foxfi does not support all devices, and I believe the S4 is not supported, so I bet the N3 won't be either, at least for a while.

It's not the Verizon model, but this is hopeful: Does Foxfi work on the Note 3?
Chainfire needs the firmware to be available so he can offer up a version of his CF-Auto Root method as he has already done for other GN3 models. So we may have something by EOM it depends on how long it takes for the FW to release.

That would require an unlocked bootloader from verizon. Which is more than a 100% chance of being locked. AlSo I am still pretty wlrrked about the knox e-fuse voiding warrenty.

I was not aware that CF Auto-root required an unlocked bootloader to work, that is a PITA. There is another root method available for the GS4 though so there will likely be one for the GN3, however now we are stuck facing the loss of warranty due to KNOX. Honestly if I had an issue I would just put an insurance claim in and be down with it.
Bluetooth DUN
If you get a bluetooth DUN app from the Play Store it works way better than any wifi tethering. I have VZW Note 3 and it works great. I think the app is 5.00 but it is totally worth it.
What about the wifi hotspot toggle?

I have been using it fine. Just hit the home button when the Verizon pay screen appears and you're good to go.

Agree here, I did the very same thing. Launch FoxFi and when the Verizon Hotspot 'pay' screen shows up just hit home button. Works perrrrrfectly.
Now, we don't know for sure if Big Brother is watching , you will notice that the verizon Hotspot icon also shows up along with foxfi icon in notifications bar.

Does the AT&T variant have Wi-Fi connection sharing?

http://www.sammobile.com/2016/03/11/...other-devices/
My Verizon variant doesn't have this. What about the AT&T variant?
If by sharing you mean can it be a hotspot, yes. Mine does. Probably depends upon service plan though.
No. Read that article. The GS7 can share a WiFi connection. In other words, instead of sharing your LTE connection to other devices, it can share it's WiFi connection to other devices by broadcasting it on a different SSID.
A perfect use case for this would be using paid hotel WiFi that charges per device. Pay once on your phone, then share that connection under a different SSID and hook your tablet, laptop, etc. up to it.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm doing a piece on this feature for Android Police, but I need to verify each carrier's variant as to whether or not the feature is enabled. My 935V (Verizon) doesn't have the feature, but I've been able to verify that Sprint and T-Mobile do. So, can anyone with a 935A verify this for me?

Yes you can share hotspot via WiFi or mobile data. Just tested it couple minutes ago.

VZW - Unlimited Data and Hotspot

So I upgraded with monthly payments, coming from a Turbo2 with the refresh/hotspot trick - well it does not work on the HTC 10 and not only that I cannot get the Hotspot active even if I want to pay for it. I am working on it with a VZW rep now see what happens but beware it may be an issue.
Never ever work with Verizon to resolve "free" hotspot. Foxfi may need to be updated to work with htc 10.

Yeah if Fox-Fi starts working with the Verizon model. I may just cancel my order of the Unlocked (since its looking pretty grim that it wont support Verizon 100%) and buy the Verizon model so at least I can have my coveted hotspot capability while waiting on S-Off and root for the VZW model!

Nexus 6p tethering?

hey guys was thinking about getting a 6p but do not want to lose the tethering ability that i had on my nexus 6, does anyone know if its the same process which is sending tether_dun_required 0 via command prompt or is this a no go with the 6p?

my 6P tethers fine without any workarounds on stock rom on TMobile
never seen the tether usage go up on my plans details
There is a mod to build.prop you can search for that enables tethering.

That's not required on the 6p. 5x it was I believe. I have VZW unlimited still and no build prop edit required. Tethers out of the box.

It is required on AT&T with my 6P
To answer the OP question.
You should be able to tether in the same manner that you were able to on the Nexus 6.
On Verizon, nothing to be done. It works out of the box.
AT&T needs build.prop modification.
T-mobile works and I'm not sure about Sprint.
My bad. Didn't realize AT&T needed the build prop edit.

I cannot get tethering (grandfathered) to work with build.prop edit , is there any other way ?
(I entered net.tethering.noprovisioning=true on the last line)

My 6P on Nougat and AT&T tethers with no modifications. Works "out of the box" so to speak on an unrooted, bone-stock (other than Nougat) phone...
I am using the app foxfi and tethering via usb with pdanet installed on my laptop, and this is working also to hide tethering from the carriers confirmed working for tmobile.

Mine Tethers fine stock MM and now stock N. MetroPCS

US997 HotSpot???

I am currently debating on getting the LG G6 US997 since my LG G3 died a couple days ago. My question is does the US997 have a working hotspot or is there a work around to use the Wifi Tether?? I have read conflicting reports on the issue and want to be sure before I purchase the phone. I am needing a phone that has a working hotspot to tether my UDP. I am sorry if this has been answered anywhere but I can't for the life of me find an answer. I know the US997 has an unlockable bootloader and has had root and multiple custom roms which leads me to believe that the HotSpot should in theory work or at least have a work around but i just needed to make sure. Thanks
I have the same model.
My hot spot for wifi works great for internet connection
I don't use wifi calling

Hey did you find out whether the Mobile Hotspot feature is present on the US997 and is free to use on whichever carrier worldwide? Or if there's a workaround? I'm outside the US and thinking of buying this phone but I need that feature too.

Ok. I just wish I knew if there is a workaround to unlock the mobile hotspot feature so that I can apply it if I have to. I've read that you can only unlock the bootloader for the H870 and US997 models only. So for instance if I buy the US997 model and it has an AT&T or T-Mobile rom on it then if the hotspot workaround exists for them I don't have to worry.
