Sooooo, I've never rooted, or flashed any roms before. That was my first problem. My second is that while attempting to recover data using Mtk Droid Tools I may have sorta... selected the wrong boot/recovery files... now my phone won't boot, The backlight comes on, but after 2-4 seconds it shuts off again. I've never been able to boot the phone into download mode, but now I can't even get into recovery mode either. I've contacted a few unbricking services, but they all refuse to help, because its a clone device.... Am I screwed? :crying:

I can't find anything that fits my situation. I've spent the past 6 hours searching multiple sites without any success.
Without knowing exactly what device you have, like chip set CPU and the like and also what base ROM....
1. Galaxy s4 forums are not going to be of much help anyway, it's a clone so it's not a galaxy S4.
2. Yes I think you might be in a bit of bother...
P.s. my in law had a no name 10" tablet it was Chinese and didn't have gapps, I didn't know anything about it, couldn't find any ROM support any where on Google or xda, tried every technique I know to root, turned out it had secure write only system partition (can't remember the correct name), so gave up...
This is major drawback to buying clone noname knockoffs...

Hi guys, Last night I accidently unplugged my phone while installing ClockWORKMOD recovery. Now when I boot my device it is stuck on the Downloading screen. I tried everything including the posts here but the Odin software doesn't see my phone and removing the battery and reinstalling does nothing. I even wiped the phone and factory reset via the clockwork... No Luck. It will not install the Crash ROM either. I get error 7.
It seems like I bricked the phone but I know there is always a way back to life. At least I hope. Any help guys would be great.

You need to properly install the correct drivers on your PC. There should be no reason that ODIN doesn't see your phone if they are installed correctly. A quick search of the forums should get you the proper drivers to install. You can also try Kies emergency recovery, but it is hit and miss. Good luck.
+1 if you can get into download you can Odin. Use the usb ports in the back of the pc. You might have to use a different computer also. For the life of me I can't get Odin on my pc to recognize the device but I have no problem with my laptop.

That's the thing, these exact same types of threads just keep rolling through one after the other...people don't search and they don't read. That's the reason they are in the situation they are in to begin with and it seems they just don't learn.
Fortunately, the AT&T S4 forum has come far enough along that the sticky threads and the threads like your guide can be linked for these people to put a little time into finding a solution for themselves. Most of them don't like it (they want it done for them), but if it is all they get, they will finally have to do something the right way on their own.
Actually, a few people are thankful for being pointed in the right direction, but most are still pissed because it means they have to do what they should have done in the first place...follow XDA rules, use the search function, and read. If you don't do everything for them and hand it to them on a plate they call you names and say you are a ****, unhelpful, etc... I just laugh about it because it becomes clear why their phone is F'ed up in the first place. The thing is, sometimes you just can't help people. Just every now and then, someone comes along that needs help and is willing to do things the right way.
You can NOT have kies drivers and samsung drivers loading at the same time, I do not use kies at all, and my pc has NEVER gave me a issue yet using odin, including in my G3 days. uninstall that worthless kies and proceed. If you have to use kies, load it as needed then remove it.
And as always with the lovely microsoft windows, after you un-install anything you have to reboot, for it to work properly.
Linux is my BUD!
I have the att s4 with the mf3 build which I received via an ota update. I recently did the root for this build which worked perfectly, afterwards I read through 47 pages of forums and was trying to do the work around djrbliss put out, around page 40 someone says if your phone is rooted just download goomanager and installscriptrecovery. then reboot recovery. I downloaded goomanager then installed script, after this I hit the reboot recovery and the phone went into download mode. and it will stay there. If i restart it returns to download mode. Any Ideas?
Im not 100% but u may hve read wrong. This has happened to everyone who has tryed to flash a recovery on mf3. You can only have root there is no custom recovery for this build. Ok now this is wat you do take your phone to bestbuy tell them kies f'd ur phone up nd they can reflash mf3.at this moment mf3 isnt available to general public

Yeah, read the forums. I mean seriously, almost every other post, including the one you read, tells you that drjbliss's exploit was patched in mf3, and can brick your device if you attempt to install a custom recovery. It is, quite literally, the biggest topic in the S4 forums. Also, there is no odin flashable image for mf3, so you cannot return to stock without taking it to bestbuy. Read more in the q&a section, as this same mistake has been made and asked about at least a hundred times. Literally.
In conclusion, you have a paperweight till you take it to get it flashed back to normal.

Read this thread. Best buy can flash the stock mf3 firmware and get your recovery back. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45457012

Hey guys thanks for chiming in. I want to give a thank you to those who have gave me a serious answer. I will go back to best buy and try again, but I sent my wife up there and she said the cell phone department told her they do not flash firmware there. She said she asked them if the service section did and the lady told her no again. I am fairly familiar with flashing the firmware on an s3 I just haven't messed with the s4 that much, and obviously I didn't read as well as I thought I did or it wouldn't be bricked. I do have one other question tho if Best Buy can flash it back to stock firmware, is it safe to assume at some point I should be able to flash it back via odin when the mf3 build is released by sammobile? Either way if best buy doesn't flash it back i'm screwed on this one and i'll just have to pick up another s4 tomorrow. I just want to know if this one can be fixed i'd really hate to waste a perfectly good phone.
If and when mf3 firmware is available you should be able to flash with odin. Best buy seems to be using a new software package other than Odin so who knows if an odin package will be available.
I believe at best buy they have to have a "Samsung Experience" booth or area to do the flashing. The normal best buy service counter can't do it.

Correct
Question on brick fix
Hey guys thanks for the helpful info. I took it to the samsung experience part of best buy and the guy fixed it. He didn't have to flash the firmware tho, he took the back off and replaced the battery then I don't know what combination of buttons he hit or what but he held something and it was able to reset the phone and came up normally. Does anyone know what he could of hit? The phone was stuck in download mode no matter what you hit it would only reset to it. I had tried booting and holding volume up and home and releasing home for the recovery boot. As a recap of what happened I had rooted the phone and then downloaded goomanager and ran the installed script option under settings then I reset and was stuck in download mode. I just found it crazy that he never had to hook it to his computer to fix it.

Hmm, that is interesting. Did he replace the battery temporarily while 'resetting the phone with combination of buttons'?
Or did he place the battery inside and let you have it?
Sounds like a simple factory reset...

He originally plugged my phone up when I gave it to him but it wouldn't come on so he unplugged it and replaced the battery. The battery I had was completely dead. After he replaced the battery he turned it on and it went to the download screen with the little green alien. After that he held some buttons and kept looking at the back and then the front of the phone. I couldn't really see what he hit but shortly afterwards it came up with my lock screen picture. After that he said it doesn't need flashing but he would flash the firmware if I wanted so I said ok and he did. I have the phone now working great but it doesn't show rooted anymore.
Omg how do people not know this already. I have had my S4 for 2 days even i know better and I cant believe people dont read
Hey Guys,
I need help... I have an old HTC HD2 china clone with stock android. I'd like to play around with it and try some other roms and stuff (Not using it anymore, so risk free). Problem is... It has android as stock, no model number, no magldr, no download mode, no cwm (and I have yet to find a way to get it on there), every thing I find on the web is based on the wm version with magldr and not my terrible excuse for a phone.
So with very few options I haven't a clue how to go about this. I'd like to be able to flash some new roms and try some messing around with this old thing. ANY kind of help in regards to this problem is very welcome. And thank you all in advance.
If any additional information is required, just ask and I will deliver.

Hi Venicci,
I received one of these from a dodgy seller and subsequently acquired the geniune article. You might have realised that these only resemble the real hd2 in appearance. They are in no other way the same. Mine fake one is powered by a mediatek cpu and runs windows mobile 6.5.
Like you said, no great loss if you brick it, but very unlikely any custom rom on xda will work on it. In OZ there are a few geniune hd2 handsets floating around on gumtree, ebay etc which look like they are in good nick. Maybe you should try for one of these as your hack phone, or perhaps a nexus s or galaxy nexus.
I've owned a nexus s and they're a fun phone to play around with.
So I have a Samsung Galaxy S4, AT&T, rooted, running 4.2.2. It's been stuck on 4.2.2 as I don't really live in the US.
Rooting was fairly easy using TowelRoot. I tried to get a little more adventurous and tried to use Rashr from Google Play Store without having to use ODIN to install TWRP. It rebooted to the Downloading... Do not turn off target!! screen. I somehow figured out to go to recovery mode by pressing volume down + power + home button to go to the "Custom ROM" warning, where I chose Cancel by pressing the volume down button, and was able to restore my device back to where it was. I seemed to have screwed up something with the Micro SD card as it's not reading it and asking me to format it. ****.
This time I'm going to do my research before attempting anything.
The USB port is broken. I can charge my phone but I cannot do any data transfer. I've tried many different PC's, it just doesn't recognise it. The fact that it shows the charging icon at times even though it's not charging and doesn't show the charging sign when it's charging confirms that. The screen was accidentally broken once and since I am not from the US it was tough finding someone who could replace it. Official Samsung repair centres would avoid the phone.
How is this method? http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-root/how-to-install-twrp-on-rooted-galaxy-s4-using-goo-manager/ It doesn't seem to require a PC, however the comments on that page seem to suggest it isn't working for many.
Is there any other method that will work without the need of a PC, which may be foolproof?
Thanks a lot.
Get flashify from the play store. Flash the twrp image file in it.

I would advise you to avoid galaxys4root dot com. I'm not familiar with the offerings on that specific site, but I do know that his galaxys2root downloads caused many problems for many people on the AT&T galaxy s2, some of them serious indeed.

Cool thanks I'll give it a try. Does it have the OpenRecoveryScript thing though? Is that what I was missing while using Rashr?

Got it. Will be careful next time. It does look shady-ish but I went through a couple more similar posts including a video by QBKing77 (who is amazing. I followed his video while unlocking the bootloader of my Nexus 4) in which he did the same. GooManager doesn't exist on the Play Store unfortunately and even the apk doesn't work.
So, as this is my first ever thread to this website and the reason why i have created this account, I am somewhat new to the XDA forums...
Nevertheless, i will state my problem here:
Right now, my phone and my limited knowledge about it have come to an dead end. with the help of online tutorials and so on, (I have downloaded almost 40 gigabytes worth of space to do stuff to my phone), i was able to only get the fastboot mode to work again.
It started with me uninstalling a system app from google (I don't know which one exactly, but i had the resurrection remix 5.69 or something like it, and in that ones system app remover it was one of the lowest google apps). I don't know if this is important, but at the time i did that i was in plane mode.
After some time i ran into some loading issues with games and restarted my phone. the first time i got in, i booted up normally and could do my pattern normally, but then there was only a black screen and i could pull that info bar thing down. as soon as i wanted to open the settings, everything froze and i decided to restart the phone. Once it was shut down i then got greeted by a bootloop which i aborted by shutting down after about 3 minutes. then nothing was working anymore, so i wanted to see if the fastboot mode was still available. it was, but after shutting down from that and trying again ( just to be sure) even that was gone.
so i went online and downloaded basically everything you can find online to recover a harbricked op2.
turns out, after i got my fastboot working again, the OEM and the device were locked (still not sure if those are different things or the same) and because i couldnt get in the android system, i could not enable it.
the ADB commands do not work at all because there is no device detected for it, though it is detected for fastboot. the command fastboot OEM unlock does not work because OEM unlocking is disabled...
so far i have been able to connect my phone in 3 modes and names for those, them being:
Android Bootloader interface (Fastboot)
Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 900E (Connected while holding VolUp)
RELINK HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (Connected while holding VolUp + VolDown)
I am also unable to flash anything on the phone because the OEM is locked
I will not be able to answer for some time (probably 2-3 weeks) but i wanted to start this thread so I could already have an answer when i come back home again (traveling with fam, and its somewhat hard to take a PC tower with you on trips)
Thanks for helping me! :fingers-crossed:
I'm having the exact same issue as OP.
I'm not sure exactly what I did, but I can only boot to fastboot. Typing fastboot continue does not work, I can't flash ANYTHING or use any of the recovery tools, because my device is locked, and there's no system to boot to so I can run fastboot oem unlock (have to turn on debugging, which I can't do). I have read just about every guide there is, and also downloaded a boatload of purported "fix" tools/drivers/packages. My phone remains able to boot only into fastboot, and I can't get anything working.
Installing the device drivers did work for me, so I'm about half a step ahead of some other people with this issue, but none of the tools or scripts I've found, or manual methods, have brought my OP2 back to life.
I'm really, really hoping someone here is able to help with this.

Oh, it is that one. I had already tried this one, in all listed modes posted above. The problem with that one is that everytime I hit the start button, the green progress bar does not show up and it does not a single thing... because I am staying at a place with a internet café for 3 days, I can download some stuff and try it again.
EDIT: I don't know if that was the reason It didn't work, but I may or may not have forgotten to install the driver because it was deleted off the onedrive page and I just forgot about it afterwards. if I can find a replacement for it, I will ink it here for future users with the same problem. otherwise, I would be GLaD if someone would do that for me...
