Are all my messages lost forever? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so i was previously on CM 10.2 and it was a bit too bleeding edge for me so i decided to downgrade back to 10.1 only to find out theres a new RC, 10.1.3. So i tried to dirty flash 10.1.3 straight away in cwm knowing it was a bad idea but long story short , it didnt work and i somehow got LiquidSmmoth 2.9 installed.
Heres where the fun starts, ive used both SMSBackup And Restore and Sms Backup + to restore messages but they simply dont work. Im guessing it has something to do with going from 4.3(CM0 to 4.2.2(LS). Sms Backup and Restore just spits out an error as soon as i select the .xml and Sms Backup + backs up to my email and even restores it back onto the phone, but i open mesages and handcent, theres nothing there. Could it be that 4.3 has a different location for messages??
It seems im stuck using the CM 10.2 rom if i want to keep my messages. They are important and id rather not lose them. If you have any ideas i can try, please post. Id be very grateful.

Is 4.3 Different to 4.2 when it comes to messages? I mean SMS backup + restored something cause it took 10 minutes. So where did it all go??

SMS Backup+ backs up your SMS and MMS to your GMail, if you go to your gmail and check labels, look for SMS and they're all there (usually in groups of 100) and can be restored to another phone/ROM with the same program. Although it only restores SMS, not MMS (although they do remain saved to your gmail so you can still view them).

Ok so i mnagaed to get my messages across since no utility/app could do it. I did it manually using this post:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...le-system-i-e-message1-extension-or-in-a-data
Basically copying the database file across roms seems to work so far. Not sure why some apps i tried were crashing but at least its working.

[Q] Just Rooted, Want EB01

So I just rooted my Fascinate (something I never thought I would do) and now I want to get EB01 on my phone. I already backed up everything with Titanium Backup, but I just don't know what I need to do now to get EB01 onto my phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to all of this and need some straight forward help. Thank you.
The 1st thing you are going to want to make sure is that you only have user apps backed up with Titanium Backup. Then you will need Odin 1.3 (Google is your friend here) because you will be flashing a new modem and Odin is the only way which to do so.
Now the easiest way to go to Stock EB01 is the all in one EB01 tar file that can be found here.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...roms-w-root-new-clockwork-updated-2-11-a.html
This will completely format your phone. Flash the .tar file using Odin with The PDA BUTTON (USING THE PHONE BUTTON IN ODIN WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!!) and afterward you will have to resetup your phone again (this is normal).
Go to the market and reinstall Titanium Backup and restore ONLY your user apps as restoring system apps would probably cause your phone to act strangly. Afterwards you should be set.

dont forget about the new clockwork recovery as well, found here:

flash this after you flash EB01. it might be a little wonky at first, so read through the thread for details on how to make it not wonky, i.e. getting a working update.zip.
Try this, I used it without a problem.

Yes, but it won't back up your SMS messages, OS settings (the stuff you can adjust in the 'Settings' app), and some other stuff. There's several apps on the market to back up your SMS messages to your SD card, then restore after the backup (the others shouldn't be that big of a deal to have to reconfigure).

Unable to send sms

I flash different roms all of the time, but i've never had this problem. After flashing back to CM7 on my Shift, I can receive texts but not send them.
I flashed a Sense rom and updated the PRL and Profile; nothing. Then I dialed *#*#4636#*#* for the SMSC update, tried both the 11-digit SMSC number and the 16-digit Hexadecimal PDU number, but every time I got the "update failed" message.
However, something must have worked, because despite nothing appearing to work, I can send and receive texts on the Sense rom. However, when I restore my CM7 backup, the problem resurfaces... even after attempting the SMSC updates in CM7.
Does anybody know what i'm doing wrong? I'd like to get my ability to send SMSs back on my AOSP rom.
I would try a Fresh Flash of the CM7 Rom you want to use. Instead of the CM7 Backup you already have. It may be corrupt, or just a bad Nand Backup.

Ah, well I was hoping there was a way to keep my settings and apps but so be it. I'll re-download the rom over WiFi tonight and post my results.
Well, after taking prboy's advice I re-download my CM7 rom (Sparksco's v1.1 stable version of CyanogenMod 7.2.0).
At first I did a full wipe before flashing, but ran into the same SMS issue as before. I ended up restoring my Sense rom with working SMS, then flashing CM7 over it without wiping, and now I am able to send and recieve texts like normal.
Only problem now is i'm missing a lot of functionality. For example, the home button doesn't work, I can't take a screenshot, the phone app for making calls is missing and I can't access the "CyanogenMod settings" from the settings menu.
Any ideas? Is it possible to backup/restore just the part of a rom that is responsible for SMS capabilities? In the meantime, i'll play with rebuilding caches and permissions.

Your pretty much worse off then when you started. Flashing a Rom on top of another Rom without wiping is not a good idea. Flashing a Non-Sense Rom over a Sense Rom without wiping is a really bad idea. You I'm sure have a lot of corrupt data. You can try this, Nand back to the Sense Rom. Update PRL / Profile. Then do a Full wipe and flash the CM7 Rom. You should have better results.

Of course, I mainly tried it as a test.
Playing with caches and permissions didn't help. I'll try what you suggested and a few other things.
Well keep us posted.
Well I fixed my issue, but not in the way I wanted.
I remembered I had a backup of an old CM7 nightly in my dropbox. I restored that, verified SMS worked, then wiped everything except /system and did a clean install of CM7.2.0. Everything is right again.
Out of curiosity, does anybody know where things like the profile, prl and SMSC number are stored on a phone? Is it even user-accessible from recovery or the OS?

Glad to hear it's working ok now. You can view your prl info on aosp under about phone. Currently there is no recoveries that have the prl or SMSC locations encoded into them. But if you happen to find out what the locations are, let me know and I might be able to pull some prl image files and post them into a flashable to flash in recovery.

Me too, I would like to know what is the solution. I am experiencing long sms message and mms sending issue on CM 7.2.0-RC2 for HTC EVO 4G. N4 restore - just downloads apps?

Hi
I´ve flashed a new rom today (MMuzzy Rom) and did a backup (NANDROID with TWRP) before.
Now that i wanted to restore my device i just wondered that there are still no apps.
Then i noticed the download icon on top and noticed that my phone downloads now my 123 apps ive installed before - i mean how far is this the sense of a NANDROID backup?

That wasn't Nandroid. That was Google, and it was just the apps, not the app's data.

If you did actually do a backup in TWRP, you should be able to enter recovery then perform an advanced restore of some sort and restore the data partition. I don't use TWRP but I imagine it has similar functionality to CWM so there should be a similar option somewhere.
OK i guess now its doing its nandroid restore (i chose Restore Nandroid Backup with custom recovery in Root Toolkit). All apps show up and none have been downloaded. Im just wondering why its actually taking that long (ten and a half hours and counting)
I canceled the restore now and doing ist right now in TWRP so i guess i shall restore everything except Boot (i´ve flashed a new kernel) and system (i´ve flashed a new rom)
Edit: Now its stuck on booting for like 10 minutes - what shall i do?

[Q] Backing Up Multi Users

Hello. Has anyone found a way to do this yet? I found a couple threads that dated a couple months ago with the same question but no answer. So if anyone has figured out a way to backup the apps and data on both a primary and secondary user account please help. Im pretty sure others are interested as well. I really want to try out some different roms but my brother will be really mad if I lose all his data again . Last time i backed the tablet up with wugfreshs toolkit thinking itd back up everything and when i found out it didnt after restoring i was screwed lol. Is there a way to pick what you want to restore with twrp? I know for my phone in cwm you can do an advanced restore and restore just certain things like apps and data. Is that possible for nexus 10?
I have the same problem kind of.
Have not tested but if you make nandroid backup in twrp on at least the data partition you should get all user data in the backup, right?
I however would like to make selected app backup in titanium where i could choose to include data for all or just single user. Not sure if possible.

Yes with tarp it backs up all user data. But like you I also want to backup certain apps with titanium. I hope they add this feature soon because I like changing Roms to see my favorite. I'm about to flash paranoid android and I did a full backup first. If my bro gets mad I'll just restore the backup so he can have his stuff back

Well i tried installing paranoid android. Then booted fine then i restored data via twrp and it wont boot i guess that doesnt work. Any other suggestions fir backing up multi accounts?

If anyone is interested go into super su and enable multiusers so now you have root on all accounts then just back up apps on each account with titanium backup and move then to pc (just in case) then you can flash any rom you want and restore the apps. Hurray . Its not as smooth as id like becaise wiping data wipes new accounts so you have to readd them but just back up all pics to google plus and anything else to cpu. Your apps and data from titanium backup will be backed up and now you have everything saved. So if anyone needs this it works. Took me a while to finally figure out a way with lots of nandroid restoring but now i.got it
Time to flash some roms till i find a favorite
As u can see im very happy

I am trying to do the same as you! The way you described doing it, I think you are just using Titanium backup app and not nandroid backups in the end, is that right? So you used Titanium backup all your apps and their data (but not photos/other documents/files on your tablet), and then you flashed your new custom ROM and used Titanium again to restore all apps/data in each user account separately? Sounds straightforward if I have this right! I have not done this before, so want to understand it before I do!! Thanks for your help... :good:

It's kind of annoying but it works. You have to back up the apps in each account then move it to a computer then back up the next account and move it to computer then back up the next etc... You have to do this because it erases the secondary accounts when flashing a new ROM so you lose all the backups you made. So putting it on a CPU then moving it back after the flash will make sure you have them

[Q] "com.google.process.gapps message wont dissapear

Hi everyone! I recently decided to install the 4.4.2 rom on my Galaxy Note 3 N9005 and I didn't like it because it obviously was buggy as ,entioned in the thread. So I wanted to go back to my nandroid backup which I had made before installing the rom. It all went right in CWM and no errors, so I rebooted my phone and got stuck at the glowing samsung logo, so after many fixes and things I tried which didn't work I flashed a pre-rooted stock rom for it and it all went well. I managed to restore to my nandroid finally and then I unlock my phone to find a "com.google.process.gapps has been stopped" message which wont go away when I tap "OK". It just comes back and gives me one second untill it comes back again. I really need help since I need my phone for work, I have tried reinstalling all the gapps, wont work, I have tried reflashing the stock rom and restoring my nandroid again, I have tried deactivating "Downloads" in the app manager but that wont fix it either and finally I have tried clearing the "app data" for all my apps but again, no luck. If anyone would be able to help me I would appriciate it very much. Thanks in advance!
You're probably gonna have to go back to complete stock. Grab your stock image and flash via odin, boot it up and see if it gives you the error without installing custom recovery and your backup. That way you'll know where the error lays.

A nandroid backup is simple but monolithic. Most people also use Titanium Backup for the ability to restore selective stuff, or to restore to a completely different model of phone.
I had same issue
Bith titanium and nandroid restore.
Well only way to save your self. Completing wizard of first startup with feeling google..
And just restore user apps and data with titanium except google stuff..
This is the only healthy restore method so far i know that gapss.com keeps kool

So I somehow managed to go to settings and disable Play Services with the one second time line that I had before the message appears again, and the message stopped. So it must be something with Play Services. Since i'm new to android (and the Note 3 is my first android phone) I want to ask if there is a way to maybe reinstall Plaay Services?

Hi, there! I just got almost the same issue like you. Once update to custom 4.4.2, any nandroid backups which worked right before getting GAPPS' FC constantly. :crying: Try double wipes, flash 4.3 gapps full package, stop&restart android download, uninstall google play store update, etc. nothing can fix it. Only way stop the popup error, is flash stock rom. But, consequently, lose root access, even with the same method that rooted the stock rom before. I'll heard some guy said the 4.4.2 has different partition from 4.3 or older android rom. But don't mention how to restore the old partition way. So, hope anyone can help us out, thanks a lot.
