I don't have the phone yet, but I played with it in the store a little bit. Is there a reason to use the Auto mode instead of Intelligent Auto? Do you ever get WORSE pics with IA? Is it slower?
What are you experiences with Auto and Intelligent Auto? Thanks!
Surely someone can chime in on this!

intelligent takes great pics with the flash on I've noticed.. adjusts everything perfectly.. and also takes great low light non flash pics.. but if it takes over exposed shots, I switch to manual mode so i can drop the iso and exposure a bit and that pic will come out better sometimes.

I was wondering about this but the thing i noticed is with AI on, there is no auto flash. So i just keep everything in normal mode with autoflash, takes great pics.
A lot of reviewers were saying that IA was the way to go for the best pics, but I trained myself to stop using it on the G Pro because it would disable the flash (with no way to turn it back on). It's hard to get used to using it again.
you can use flash with it on the g2 though, and the flash shots come out a little better than with custom settings.

For me normal IA and also night mode all look the same :/ I was wondering why is that, ive got the F320S model.

As soon as I take a picture it becomes darker than it's before taking snapshot..is it some bug or do I have to edit some setting to get normal quality?
I noticed this as well. Coming from the Infuse which didn't have this issue I'm beggining to suspect it has something to do with the actual camera application.

i think that's normal behaviour for a camera witch supports maximum iso set to 800.
In low light condition, a dslr camera will normally use iso within 1600-3200 or even more, to assure that 'what you see is what you get'.

Try using 'Camera360 Ultimate' (free in the Market) and see if you get lighter images. I don't think it's the hardware/ROM, I think it's just the default camera app which is causing this issue.
Even I am having this problem on my Note. The photos lack brightness This problem was not there on my Samsung Galaxy SII

ya i tried my brothers s2 and it didnt have any problems like this.
Actually it make sense for camera to set lower exposure. Over exposed photo loses more details than under exposed photos. You can always use apps to increase the exposure.

Tried Camera 360 with default settings. No difference.
Then using the stock app, I tried taking a snap without flash and it turned out brighter!!

Oh ofcourse you shouldn't be using flash. I generally keep the flash off for still photos.
The best way to take good photos indoors is to change the following settings:
Settings > Scene Mode > Night
Settings > Exposure Value > +2 (If Required)
Keep your hands & the subject steady.
I always use the above settings & never use flash for stills. Use Flash only for Video Recordings.

Thanks.. Will try it out and update..
It seems that the camera app shoots your screen brightness to 100% inside the camera app while taking the picture.
After you take the picture, the screen drops down to your normal brightness setting (for me quite dim), and the picture looks really dark.
Try setting your brightness to 100% before shooting and you'll see what I mean.

That worked Chod..I was banging my head on the wall last night. I thought it might have been a kernel issue.
So, I've come to terms with the camera, not so much conceding that it is broken, but knowing that the auto function (ai) needs improvement.
I have been instead using normal mode and manually adjusting iso for much better results. "I can live with this"
But, yesterday, I was at my daughters school and these on stage photos, with iso of 100, 200, 400 and then again on sports mode, were impossible... See below.
Couldn't get a noon blurred picture
How would you have taken this shot?

With Xdabbeb's camera mod. Seriously, if something is causing you so much grief you have to just "live with this", that's a pretty crappy way to enjoy something you own.

perhaps sports mode with negative exposure compensation might help
I noticed this phone has very horrible low-light performance (super blurry photos) with or without anti-shake enabled (I keep it off now). Night mode does help a LOT but I am wondering if anyone knows why this camera is so bad? Not trolling when I compare it to the iPhone 4, 5, HTC One X, and HTC One to the S4 that the former are so much better... Maybe Samsung phones just do not have the hardware to produce decent photos?
I do have minor shake in my hand but it was never an issue with any of the other phones I mentioned.
Anyone else experience the same issue (and yes, I have removed the plastic surrounding the lens)?
It's the 13 MP, and the phones tiny sensor. Not trolling but that little sensor has to do a lot of work. Also, the HTC one has a larger sensor

I shoot mainly in sports mode. Took this today of my never motionless daughter. In low light I just use my Sony NEX3N. The S4 struggles in lower light because of the slow shutter algorithm. Nexus 5 was much better at focusing but much noisier as the devise just ramped to a high iso. So it's a trade off. Samsung went for the lower noise option which increases shutter time.

Yeah I am no camera guru, it is a given the HTC One would perform better in low-light compared to the S4, cannot say I am surprised, I was just shocked at how bad performance really was. I don't have much chance to shoot during the day since well, I am working. We'll see how my summer shots come out, for now I guess I will keep it in night mode during the evenings.
Night mode just boosts iso and runs a noise reduction algorithm. You are better off shooting in sports
The other thing that lowers shutter speed is enabling stabilization mode.

Thank you, I'll change it and see how photos turn out. Is there a way to default the shooting mode upon opening the camera app? It seems to default back to auto all the time.
I'm running MDOB rom and it saves the camera settings

Yeah, night mode or sports mode I have concluded this camera is horrible compared to even previous generation cameras... I should have known better when the Samsung Galaxy Nexus had a horrible camera that not much would change...
I get some distortion or blur if there's any movement when I take a picture. Im not talking about anything high speed, just my dog or my 2 year old. If she moves her head just a little, the picture doesn't turn out and her face is half or completely blurred. If she sits still, no problem. I've rarely had this problem with my xperia zl.
I'm using the latest marshmallow update. I had the same issue on lollipop. I've tried playing around with the hdr and quality settings. I've tried setting the storage to Phone or sd card.
I love this phone except for the disappointing pictures. Has anyone had any success with another camera app or any tips? Is this just a limitation of the phone? I would like to try a few things before I look into getting another phone.
Have you tried using manual mode? For movement, you want the fastest shutter speed possible, and likely the flash to get enough light into the sensor.
Actually, I haven't. I'm guessing the manual mode is the "control focus & exposure" setting? The slider with what looks like a little sun, would change the exposure and shutter speed?
Better lighting
Open Camera works really great
Take pictures then get a little help with PhotoDirector/ you finally feel happier with it.
Thanks for all the tips. I've got a few days off coming up and will be testing them out.
No ois builtin?
Sent from my XT1562 using Tapatalk
No. This phone doesn't have ois.
To be honest after using zf2(4gb) I am totally not satisfied with the camera, anyone have the same feeling as me also?
I cant say I am perfectly happy But I dont find it unsatisfactory either. Personally In Sunny days I use Auto mod, in most other condition I use HDR mode.
Difference between Mods is very clear, I would post pics here if I could to show it, Imho With This Phone I can take good picture quite often. So are you (ıf you are here/xda) But Not everybody as often as They like. You just need to work on mods a little, So it wont be as easy as Galaxy or Lg phone.

Do you have optimization turned on? Is so turn it off, it is crappy software. Other that this being turned on by default the camera is fine for a phone.

For the sunny day it did take some great shots but the performance goes down when there's not enough light, for example as in night time. What mods are you keep referring to, may I know some ?

Hdr greatly helps at less than ideal lighting. I dont use night mode or low lighting mode, Manuel mode is better than those mode if you have a stady hand.

The HDR process is quite slow on zf2 so if your hand is shaking even slightly your image comes out blur
yup its camera is ok
Yeah!
My ZF2 is around 1 year old and the camera has blurry images and overexposure!
My ZenFone 2 is more than a year old and still takes the same quality images as it did on day 1.
A tip for the users: If you happen to move your phone from low to high temperature areas and vice versa frequently, then condensation will cause camera performance to deteriorate. You can take apart the phone and wipe the camera lens to perfection with a lint free cloth and also the other(inner) side of the outside glass. That should bring it back to normal.
