Hi everyone,
I got a popup window notifying me about a system update that was ready to install on my Verizon LG G2. I chose not to install it, but it said I can install it later. I am rooted and I am not sure what this update is for, possibly a fix for the root exploits. Anyone else seeing this?
EDIT: Everyone is confirming that it does not break root, but if you have already installed TWRP then DO NOT ACCEPT THE UPDATE.

I got it too.... Couldn't find any info on it. I did the update and in "about phone' I still show rooted. It is still 4.2.2 so I am assuming it was a minor software issue/security fix.

Please confirm that you did the system update and can still use root apps. Also, which root method did you use. Maybe they patched the Chinese method, but not the newer method yet!
I'm getting the notification too. I won't be updating til I find out what it does.

I hope there not trying that crap already

We have custom recovery. Why on earth would anyone do a OTA .. ever... again.... I have never. There will be a ROM based on Stock available that will include every GOOD thing from every OTA that is pushed... Patience is a virtue.

The Newest recovery has ADB option and is considered safe for now. My point is that why would anyone accept an OTA when it is obvious that withing a short period of time there is not only going to be a fully fixed recovery plus Custom ROM's based on the latest Stock ROM with the OTA included. Once you Root and install recovery, you kiss the carrier and their attempts at "Updates" goodbye.

Notice anything change?
i haven't rooted yet, so i told it to install later. i'll root tonight so that i know i can have it, sounds like the update doesnt take root away, it could keep you from rooting if you arent yet tho..
Oh crap, did the update and it looks like I'm soft bricked(?). I can only get to TWRP, and can't reboot the phone (always goes back to TWRP, no matter what I do, even after Factory Reset). PLEASE HELP!!
(Verizon G2)
I'm not sure if I can attribute this to the ota update but my wifi performance has been really glitchy. Constant disconnect/reconnect.
I can't say it's due 100% to the ota because wifi will occasionally get spotty due to the sheer amount of wifi APs and traffic at my workplace.
Anyone else experience this? BTW I'm rooted.

I'm in the same boat, stuck in TWRP loop won't reboot. Downloading files to get back to stock, so will try to put into download mode once everything is downloaded (2.3gb file is taking a while)...I'm sure it'll be resolved soon enough. Will report back if it works.

I usually don't take OTA updates if I have any plans of rooting or keeping root.
U.S. localized versions of the latest MEA/MF2 branch of Samsung official builds.
Check over in the i9505 threads for more info. It's possible some things have been tweaked for AT&T, but probably not a whole lot.
That update will probably allow app2sd functionality, not to mention the "purple smearing" effect some have complained of, and a few other little updates.
But as the other poster said, I wouldn't flash it until it's confirmed that it doesn't patch the loki aboot exploit. Otherwise, you can say goodbye to custom roms and root.

Unfortunately the update is FORCED. In mine there was no way to not accept it. If you hit cancel it just reboots and installs anyway. So not much choice on not taking it...
It does include app2sd though. Which is nice.

Only forced if you're completely stock and un-rooted.
At a bare minimum, you should root, and freeze the appropriate OTA update apps to prevent that kinda thing.
Again, AT&T will eventually patch the loki-exploit, and possibly at the same time roll out "root defeating" kernels.
It's just a matter of time.
There isn't an option but to be completely stock and unrooted with this phone yet unfortunately.

God dang it! I wish I read this thread BEFORE accepting the update. Now I really hope AT&T or Samsung has not patched anything that prevent root.
I cannot NOT use Wifi since I have very limited data plan...
Has it ever happen in the past, at least with AT&T phone, that they send OTA update that PREVENT rooting the phone EVER?
Don't fret. We have some mighty fine developers here. You will be able to root it.

LCD screens don't suffer from the purple smearing anyway. That's just something that AMOLED screens do. No way around it except to change the colors a bit. Which was all they did for the GS4.

I never took the update (I didn't connect to wifi so it didn't force me to update) but now I want to update it. However, when I hit the update button it tells me that 'the software update was interrupted' and won't download the new FW. If I hit it again it says I have to wait another 24 hrs. I tried changing the date to a day ahead but it still failed. I was able to update the wifes phone no problem but I accepted it as soon as it notified me.
Is the above link the current FW? I see the name is UCUAMF1 but mine came with UCUAMF2 from the store... I'd rather just update the FW since it appears everyone else got forced to update but can still root it.
Edit: Phone fixed itself overnight connected to wifi.

You still have to confirm you want to update, so don't worry about it downloading the OTA.
And yes, you must buy it. I'm not going to talk about illegal stuff here.
And I'm sure it works, because I just said I did the same today. From 10a to 10f with a D802 international, I kept the root.
Even if you did lose root, who cares? Just run IOroot again and you have it back.

So far I can see it added "Do you know?" and it moved the settings cogwheel in the notification area a little more to the left instead of it being centered. Haven't noticed anything else.

Well, in my device it fails and it says that it wont update because it's rooted! :|
I don't fell like erasing everything with the stock rom, just to do a minor update... When LG releases kitkat, I'll do it.
Or, is there any quick unrooting method that doesn't involve to erase the whole device?

You can try installing SuperSU from the Play Store, let it remove other root apps if it asks you to. Then in the settings you can tick full unroot. Maybe that works?
Otherwise don't bother updating and do it when KitKat is released like you said, I don't think this update is worth flashing a kdz.

Hi again,
I installed the upgrade assistant in installer mode but for some reason it is not picking up the new NE9 update on my computer. See attached print screen. Very strange.. It sees the update on my phone to download though.:cyclops: Do you know why this is and how I can get it to see the update on the upgrade assistant as you mentioned?
Kind Regards
Can you explain why you want the update so bad? You do realize that rooting and accepting official otas is completely contradictory, correct? OTAs are generally what fix things like what towelroot exploits. If you accept official OTA, you will likely lose root.
But can't I just re root after the ota? I guess the reason I want the Ota because I heard of camera enhancements and stability fixes

No. OTA have patches for known security flaws as well. The flaw that towelroot relies on is closed after the new OTA. Meaning, no more root.
edit: in this case I believe folks have figured out a work around for keeping root with the update. In general though, if you value root and what it provides you do not accept official releases.

@ks3rv3rg I believe the links mentioned above provide a workaround for the Root to be kept after updating.
As for the problem nick, I can't help you there. I haven't personally take it as I see taking OTA's is silly with a rooted phone you can modify to be much more. Perhaps someone else who has done it will chime in...
Thank you both for your perspectives.. Plus, I can always just wait for a ROM that currently has the update installed.

Hey there, everybody. I'm currently running a manually odexed version of the stock N900VVRUEOF1 firmware, with bootloader unlock, TWRP 2.8.7.0, and am both rooted and running Xposed framework...
Out of nowhere, I see a long-forgotten icon, in my notification tray. It's saying there's a software update available! I wanted to make sure this wasn't some fluke (or to make sure I wasn't dreaming), so I checked out Verizon's update list.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/software-updates/
Lo, and behold! There's an actual, honest-to-goddess update! (Listed as: LRX21V.N900VVRSEPL1)
However, there is little to no information on what it is or does, apart from the ever-vague "latest security updates"...
Fearing a potential planned obsolescence (like the Note 7) or it wrecking my custom root/recovery/bootloader status, I haven't installed it.
I could try to unpack it all and go digging through it, but that takes way more time or energy than I can currently devote to this sort of thing...
Does anybody know what is involved with this update or have any other information as-to what it includes?

Thanks for the update, GoNavyMike.
That's about all I could find as well. :-/
In an effort to get a better idea of what has changed, would you have happened to have installed this? If so, would you say that there's any noticeable difference in performance or features, apart from the obvious potential app updates?
I'm all for the performance fixes and whatnot, but I really don't wanna lose root. Does this patch over current root methods, bump the Lollipop build up to 5.1 (sdk21), or anything like that? These are the kinds of things that a number of folks (myself included) are curious about. If you have updated, any insight you might provide would be very valuable!
Thanks for your time!

Was shocked to see myself.
I'm having trouble to disable the notification.
Tried using disable services from the playstore and unticking system update from Google framework also tried the Disable system updates app for rooted devices. Also the tick mark to hide notifications is grayed out on System Update in applications.
Im running Stock VRUEOF1 with TWRP and rooted.
Any suggestions?
My GF and I both have the Note 3. Mine is rooted and her's is stock, so I told her to go ahead and install it. Yeah, it's just a security update. I decided to update mine and it fails with the 402 error. Likely because I'm rooted. I need to look into deleting the update and blocking OTA.
BEWARE
Hey so I've got the 900v and it was rooted stock deodexed with a few rom toolbox tweaks. After the updated I was soft bricked - had to revert back to factory with Odin - no fun.

I used titanium backup pro and I froze the software update and it removed the annoying update pop up and stoped the updating from happening.

Thanks for the heads-up. This is the sort of thing I was worried about. Firstly, whether being rooted would mess with the update (perhaps it's just a partial update...?) and secondly, that I'd be able to keep root.
Assuming that your GF is okay with you borrowing her phone (which IS a rather large assumption, for nearly anybody), would you mind trying to see if current rooting methods still work for the new update?

I'm sorry to hear about having to do the full backup and restore... According to what yourself and xm41907 have posted, it apparently checks for full stock. Not sure how you managed to get as far as you did, but at least we know that this update doesn't play nice with rooted phones.
Performance/security improvements are great and all, but there are plenty of Xposed mods and manual tweaks to take care of that-- as long as there's still root.
If there's anybody who doesn't care whether they have root or not, I'd love to hear if current rooting methods still work after the new update, or if this update patches over or current for exploits.
Disclaimer: If you update, you do so at your own risk. However, we'd love to hear more about the details and any root-related insight.
Thanks, everybody!

I can ask if she is ok attempting root. I've been out of it since the Verizon Note 3 first got root capability. This brought me back to it seeing the bootloader can be unlocked and roms put on. I'm jazzed to try AryaMod !
I'm worried about what specifically it means by "Security Updates". I'm still on the OLD unlimited data plan. Because of this, I have to use FoxFi to tether as Verizon doesn't allow it. I'm worried this update may block it.
Can anyone confirm FoxFi still bypasses Verizon's tethering check post update? My Note 3 is totally stock, not rooted, and updated to the last patch(before this one).
Thanks!

For those wondering...
I went ahead and did the update. Foxfi is still working post update
Thanks everyone for your continued feedback about this update. I am still clinging on to my Note 3. This is most certainly my last subsidized phone on VZW with my UDP.
In any event, I was just as shocked as you guys to see the system update notification. I went straight to Tibackup and froze the "System updates" app, which has tamed the notifications.
I did the update 2 days ago on my non-rooted note 3.
Everything is pretty much the same I dont notice any difference really.
Only thing is it seems my battery life has become worse.

That's what I've noticed too maybe we just need to factory reset our phone somebody should test that and give us feedback I haven't noticed anything changed with this update maybe possibly a better signal will update in a couple days and battery light seems to be an affected slightly

Update for everybody with the Note 3 I don't know if it's coincidence or not after updating but when I'm in the YouTube app and have my charger connected to my phone it will say dock is connected really quick and then disappear it will probably do this two or three times a day just wanted to throw this out there and let people know that there might be a bug in the update I will check my USB port and see if it's clean and not damaged

Hey Speed_Phreak - thanks for your post, I think I'm on the right track but still having some trouble. After freezing "Security Policy Updates.apk," "Samsung Updates.apk," and performing a restart, the OTA "security update" notification persists. How did you access "system update.apk?"

Freeze "System update".. in titanium backup.
hoping it doesn't break root. it's the update that ends in F. crazy that we're just now getting it while apparently Tmobile is on J already. crazy.
I delayed the update until it can be determine whether this update will affect ROOT.

Don't think TWRP can install the file "dlpkgfile".
Any ideas?
I'm also waiting to see if it will remove root or not. Hopefully someone can test it.
I reinstalled the LG default recovery in "img" form, and attempted to run the update. Rebooting, it went into LG update mode, 1/2 (I assume 1 of 2), and stopped with an error that I wasn't quick enough to write down.
The device rebooted, and came up with warning "This device is suspected in rooting". No LG updates will install" or similar.
I used FlashFire and restored my TWRP recovery partition, and am now going to wait until someone more versed in update manipulation changes the update file "dlpkgfile" into something TWRP can work with.
I tried.
WTF! the update disabled HD calling for me on Verizon and now I don't even have simultaneous talk and data! WTF!

Anyone try recowvery with 10f yet?
Anyone know the Android security patch level?

anyone else realize they dropped volume a lot on here??? volume is so low now compared to what it was. kinda annoying. I have to jack it up just to hear it now whereas it used to get a lot louder.

Dont do it
NEVER EVER take OTA's if your rooted, you will most likely unroot your phone. A custom ROM if it has a good developer behind it will stay updated by said Dev, your asking for trouble by loading OTA's while your rooted.
You've been warned
lmao cmon man.. look at my post count, look at my years on xda.. you think I'm some kinda android noob? hahah. anyway, point is, taking the F update didn't mess with getting root on us996 so I took it to see if it did any good.. but i guess lg's speaker "fix" was to lower the volume in general.

My post wasn't directed specifically at you. I see that question about OTA;s all the time, or they took an OTA and now thier phone brews coffee, that was directed at anyone willing to read and try to take a little advice.
