I can recommend you to Root your phone with Oppo Find 5 Root Tool by Adam Outler,
and the Windows Simple Tool maybe for flashing a new TWRP.
They are both beginners friendly.

Hi guys, today I bought my nexus 7 and I just unlocked bootloader and rooted with Nexus 7 toolkit.
Now I've a padlock icon during boot (since I unlocked the bootloader). Is there a way to remove it?

The only way to remove it is to relock the bootloader. It's to show to you and everyone else that it is unlocked.

That padlock is a good thing. It's the symbol of your gateway to freedom.

Nope. Less you want to rewrite bootloader

There is software on the play store that can be uses to overwrite the boot image. I Dont know if it works in this device but I heard it works on the galaxy nexus and I had a custom boot image on my old epic touch and HTC eris.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
the samurai boot image was the best. But its different with the nexus devices that image is stored in the boot loader not the kernel like the epic 4G. As of yet I don't think there is a way. Logo me doesn't work for the N7 like the gnex.

I think you can decompile the boot-loader. find the storage sectors where that image is at.. Replace the binary with that of a image you wish to use. Maybe even replace it with some empty data code. re-compile boot-loader and flash to your device..
This is why over my head . just information from following the threads in the a500 forum. Where the AWESOME Developers there worked together to build a new boot-loader for that device..
I might be wrong .. But it would be a first in a very long time . But i might be wrong about never being right as well OK IM CONFUSED NOW.
The simple answer is NO.. the app mentioned about says it only works with LISTED DEVICES . Nexus 7 tablet is NOT one of them..
Confused erica.
When I tried to root my n7 "nexus 7 toolkit 2.0" told me I can't root without unlocked bootloader. Now I unlocked and rooted, if I relock bootloader with the same tool does root remain?

Yes root will remain but its pretty pointless to relock becuase if you ever want to flash a rom or something similar you will have to unlock it and it will delete everything.

Like ÜBER said, re-locking the bootloader is pointless. Why don't you like the little padlock?

Hahahahah ok thanks to all! I'll remain unlocked and I'll flash the cwm recovery

can the bootloader be relocked after flashing a custom ROM?

Hi everyone
I've already searched about this problem and I found couple of topics But I'm posting this beacuse i am new in the nexus 7 world and so i would have a Basic and Easy explenation about My situation. I would unlock the bootloader of My tablet to install a custom recovery and then install a cooked rom But doing that i am Not able to do first a backup with App like titanium backup that required a rooted device to backup all My data App to restore later... So what do You suggest me to do in this situation? I've seen App like Carbon and ultimate backup tool But these apps are in a beta state so i don't know if they work properly.
Ps: for those Who suggests me something Take in consideration that i am using on My pc a Linux os and Not Windows. Thanks!
(sorry for bad English But I'm italian)

Look at the Nexus toolkit, I am sure you can unlock, root and backup before you install a new rom.

R: Nexus 7 backup without root
But the toolkit needs an unlocked bootloader to make a backup of all my data apps... I was checking something that doesn't require a rooted device or an unlocked one. I have a virgin nexus 7 stock

You can back up lot's of data without rooting, but not game scores I'm afraid. AFAIK there is an app for backing up Angry Bird Scores, but that is the only one.
I think you can use ADB backup

Only requirement for that is USB debugging enabled

are you sure that this backup mode works without root or unlocked bootloader??
and is the adb backup a complete data save backup or it works only partially? thanks everyone

Look it up, you should be able to do both I believe. No you need neither of those, just USB debugging enabled

Hello,
Can someone tell me how to maintain root capabilities after the switch to the ART runtime.
I cannot see the "supersu" app and all the application that requires root access, wont work.
I flashed the zip file from this thread.
Noone seems to have this problem, is it possible?
Thanks.
Switch back to dalvik, apply root, switch to art???

Hello XDA guys.
Recently, I've bought used Nexus 4 16GB. It has broken front and back glass and also it was mentioned to be soft-bricked (I paid about 25$ for it ).
I thought that I could easily repair it, as I am owner of older Galaxy Nexus and I think I've some experiences with flashing stock images and unbricking devices such as Nexus.
But it was a bad mistake...
I've tried everything, from flashing stock factory images from Google site via fastboot to using this method.
Nothing helped.
My problem is that phone boots only on Android 4.2.2, which I've read it's the only Android which boots without loading IMEI.
If I go to settings, baseband is shown as uknown, also I can't see Bluetooth ID, IMEI nor I can't use telephone functions because SIM is not recognized.
Otherwise, Wi-Fi is working.
Do you think guys I can do something with this phone? Or is it just hard bricked and nobody can repair it?
Many thanks to everybody who will just bring any little idea, which can help me
i have read somewhere that nexus 4 phones with proximity sensor complaint will only boot on android 4.2. can you check the sensors working condition using any of the apps from playstore.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Nexus 4 doesn't boot from 4.3 vetsion for three causes:
-proximity doesn't work,
-light sensor doesn't work
-deleted IMEI
-maybe other
If you can have a backup of EFS folder from another nexus 4 you can open m9kefs1 with an hex edotor and change it to the original IMEI for not be illegal.
Sorry for my bad english
