[Q] Rooting broke my Google Now Search - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Since I rooted my Nexus 4 when I try to use google now i keep getting the error " Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped."
What can I do to correct this?
Thank you for any and all help

Try clearing cache and dalvik cache first, if that don't work delete Search app and download again from Play Store.

Thank you for the reply.
I tried all of the above but it still does it.
When you say uninstall, do you mean "updates" or completely remove the app from the system?
Thanks!

Remove completely, use Titanium backup or similar app.

You can try to do a factory reset, remember to do a backup before.
If you do only the factory reset (wipe data) you don't have to root again but maybe you have to reinstall the superuser management app (like Supersu or superuser) if it wasn't installed in system.
If this won't work try to flash again the rom.

What's your goal in factory wiping?
If you factory wipe a rooted phone I believe it will wipe out the ROM and your data and it will only boot to your bootloader.
Factory reset never unrooted my phone. I think root stays unless you want to unroot on purpose.

I'm selling it. I want to sell it rooted. I never installed a custom ROM, I kept the stock HTC Sense ROM.
Just hit factory reset in settings?

If the phone is rooted and you hit "factory reset" I'm pretty positive it will wipe everything including the ROM.
Why not just go into the recovery, wipe /data /system /boot /dalvik and /cache and then flash this?
Just wipe and flash a stock ROM. Boom.
Edit: Words. ^^

Factory Reset will not remove the root. The superuser app as well as the root was flashed into the phone's factory state. Resetting only wipes user data, not system files, including the superuser app.

Now now, I didn't say it would remove the root.
All factory reset does is reset everything back to when you first installed whatever ROM you have. It basically erases all the data and settings. It won't delete the rom, nor will it unroot you.

It wipes /data which is why I suggest he does http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15091602&postcount=5 so the whole thing is clear of any of his data and is running completely fresh.
Unless the OP has anymore questions, not to sound like a moderator, the thread's kinda over with.
So, just to be clear, hitting factory reset in Settings will delete all apps I downloaded and all data & settings for both downloaded and system apps then re-add the system apps plus SuperUser for root privileges?

It'll do all that but it won't re-add anything, the superuser app is in the /system and it wont touch that.
Best thing to do is the post where I link you.
Factory reset will leave you with the phone exactly how it would be bone stock. It will have root, but wont have Superuser. You should just flash Xhausx stock ROM and be done with it.

Yes it will, superuser is in the /system partition.
I pulled my skirt down and just did it (Factory data reset via Settings). Everything was deleted, system apps plus SuperUser was still there and the phone is still rooted (tested and confirmed). Thanks everyone!

Fix the superuser for the Taboonay rom(Also I also fail, with suddenly lost root))

Sorry to start this thread, I find I also lost root suddenly. No clear reason, thought I power down and start many times and didn't lose. Now I have no root.
So adminstrator please close this thread
gave me an error
Tried it again, flashed rom followed by this zip, no go.
Says there was an error in /sdcard/su_mod.zip followed by an installation aborted message....

I didnt wipe anything. I can try wiping cache and Dalvik cache but i would rather wait until a fix comes that doesn't require a data wipe as i have things all set up the way i like.

OK, I think the HoneyVillain's files are right. The best way is to replce the both su and superuser.apk directly in the taboonay rom not use the fix package.

The reson is setcpu as they said. Maybe it is.
Fix the superuser for the Taboonay rom
It would appear that the problems can be caused by the installaton of SetCPU

Xperia Play epicly failing....please help?

What's going on guys? I've had my Play for a while and for the most part I love it...def could be faster but thats ok.
So, the problem. I'm rooted, but stock rom and kernel. I was using go launcher, go sms and have alot of apps, a 32gb sd card thats almost full. I installed go locker a couple nights ago and it was running great. Then, the next day, I have no clue if it relates to go locker...but now my phone is like on life support or something!
75% of apps force close upon opening, the phone is deathly slow if it doesnt close...like I'll open up "settings" and it will either FC or take 2 minutes to load up...then it loads and I click something and it FCs. SOMETIMES an app will open fine, play fine. Like muffin knight, sometimes it opens and plays 100%. other times it instantly FCs over and over. Every single app no matter how complex is subject to the same problems in the same way.
I honestly have no clue wtf is wrong. It feels analgous to a computer virus. Everything is bogged and broken. I tried cleaning my phone. I uninstalled every launcher and theme app, and then uninstalled about a dozen apps I dont use alot. I left mself with the bare minumum....Id then open the "messaging" app and it would crawl open to greet me with a force close. It doesnt seem to be a problem with any specific app.
I checked battery use....very normal stuff. I don't know whats going on!! but my phone barely works....someone will call and it will take 10 seconds for me to be able to slide the slider and accept the call...
Anyone have any direction for me? I don't want to flash any kernels or roms yet (waiting for 100% stability) and I'm busy right now w tests and I just want my phone back to how it was a few days ago. I'm using adw launcher now and its the same as with the go launcher or without anything....slow, force closes everywhere, hang ups everywhere...
thanks SO much for any help from anybody...I really appreciate it.
What device are you running? R800x? R800i?
Is your bootloader unlocked? What firmware/android version are you on?

r800x, unlocked bootloader through hardfix with Alejandrissimo....and most current Verizon firmware so 2.3.4 (right?)
since I rooted it I haven't messed it with it much, just took the liberty of using apps like root explorer and stuff

If you have CWR installed I'd try to wipe the cache and dalvik cache. I've had weird things like that happen and wiping them fixes it.

I don't think I do....I'm really noob when it comes to the in depth rooting stuff but I don't even think I have a nandroid backup...
I can boot to that orange screen and I did save my state when I initially rooted...
How do I clear the caches for that stuff? Davlik, can that be done thru titanium backup?
and what about the other cache? How do I see if I have clockword recovery? (I never intentionally installed it so I don't think I have it?)
Okay so I wiped the davlik cache (like 24mb) thru titanium backup....and then I reinstalled the market (one of the more troublesome apps to open)...and then rebooted.
Tried opening a few apps in succession upon boot, and for the first time ever the phone froze and rebooted itself!
What the hell is going on?? Lol my phone was fine a few days ago and now its just insufferable!!
Any more ideas as to whats going on?
I never dled clockwork mod so I don't think I can wipe that cache?
Deleting dalvik-cache via Titanium Backup only deletes "unneeded" caches. You need to delete every dalvik-cache by going into data/dalvik-cache and deleting every file in it. Then reboot, which will rebuild the caches (first boot will take a while)

I deleted every file in the davlik cache folder...rebooted.
No change. Takes 10 seconds to open the phone...everything is slow/force closing.
Sigh. My phone is possessed and/or dying.
Then I suggest backing up your user-apps (if still possible) and doing a factory reset
Do a nandroid backup, then factory reset. Then install apps one by one testing for stability after each. If an app is causing problems that will identify it. Or provide us with a list of your apps and we could help determine if one of them may be the culprit.

Wouldn't factory reset erase my root? Or no?
I paid for that root haha that would be disappointing

I assume you paid to unlock the bootloader (reset does nothing to this). Root is much more easily obtained
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
It won't. factory rest doesn't wrote the system partition where root is located.
Factory reset.
Please dont be scared of losing root, just use the search bar and type in doomlord zergrush. His script has to be the easiest most automated way to get root on any xeria firmware ever

Doesn't it clear all? Every installed APP , user data .... Almost everything? Like Format all and instal the stock Rom aga in?

installed app would be considered user data. it gets reset to before you activated the device. if you deleted system apps, they should still be missing. you can reflash a stock rom if you want them back.
Factory reset = user data + apps
Format /system = everything (OS + photos, etc)

sorry for upper doublepost
OK. My Idea was to clean up my Phone without unlocking my Bootloader. I hate it when i get some Apps like Google+ or Google Earth or some apps i have never used on my Phone. It is annoying to me every time when i see them in my Appdrawer. So the Idea was to delete the apps i don't use. I thought i could simply delete them and perform a reset. Once they are no longer there the Phone couldn't restore them so i have got a cleaner ROM.
If you delete an app from /system, it will be gone until you re-install it from Play or flash a whole (stock) ROM. Performing a factory reset will only wipe /data and /cache and do nothing else. A factory reset does not install the whole stock ROM again.

youll need to unlock the bootloader and get root access if you want to delete system apps. but you can relock your bootlader and get rid of root after.

Is it possible to unlock my Bootloader, install cwm, instal a custom Rom get rid of cwm and lock the Bootloader again? And whats when i want to send my phone back in case of warrenty? Could i perform a reset to Stock without unlock the bootloader again?
you can reset to stock at any point by flashing the stock img via fastboot. and you can unluck/lock the bootloader whenever you want.
Thanks a lot for every answer. I love this comunity.

[t585] Almost every application crashes

Good evening, since yesterday my tablet has started to have issues, most of apps which I try to open crash, I tried to reboot the tablet, wipe the cache partition (it succeded but it gives me the following error: E:failed to find /misc), I also tried to uninstall and clean the data apps then reinstall them but they still crash.
Do you have any advice for me?
Thank you in advance.

Wipe the data partition. Usually fixes most issues.
Back up your stuff first. Don't worry about /misc

Just back up your personal stuff either to sdcard or the PC.
No point in backing apps and settings up as that is what's causing the issue.
