I'm having a very frustrating problem with my Nexus 7 (2013). About a week ago I started to notice the screen flickering and or flashing. I uploaded a video to show exactly what it's doing. I have tried to research and the only workarounds I found were to disable auto brightness and wi-fi optimization but both have been ineffective in solving the problem. The Nexus is currently running this kernel (razor-jss15q-factory) and was purchased around release day.

I have a flickering problem but it looks different than yours. Also my screen occasionally flashes black. I've also tried all the auto-brightness and WiFi tricks to no avail. The problem persists no matter what brightness my device is at and across multiple roms. I'm just about ready to send it back to ASUS for a replacement.
The flicker to black is not normal. Slight flicker at low brightness, more units have.

So defective then?

I have read about this somewhere
And you should return it. Flickering seems to be 'normal', going black is not

If JSS15Q or JSS15R doesn't fix it, I would return or exchange.
I returned the tablet to ASUS. After a 2 week turnaround time (including shipping both ways), I fired it up and immediately noticed the exact same problem (random flashing to black, plus some minor flickering). I called up ASUS again and inquired as to what they had "fixed". I was told by the customer service rep that they simply did a factory reset. They could offer no explanation why this was the only thing done.
So, back to ASUS it goes, again. This is frustrating.

hey guys, does anyone have issues with the screen becoming unresponsive when warm ? I first noticed after leaving the unit on charge in the sunlight, screen up. basically the screen needs more than a touch, sometimes it doesn't respond without a firm hand. after playing with a few different kernels this is definately an issue for me. even on stock if i play a game for long enough, heat will lead to the screen becoming unresponsive ??? stock rom and kernel is where I'm at right now and the issue is still present ? any thoughts guys ?

I used mine last night for about 4hrs, surfing the Web, videos, posting on xda, Facebook, downloading apps and playing games, got pretty warm (could feel the heat thru my tpu case) but I didn't have any problems with the screen becoming unresponsive

Mine does this sometimes but mine is not stock and have a ****load of stuff installed. I'm basically out of the 13gb. Need more space. I have otg cable but too much of a hassle.

I experienced this while using it on the charger and using the keyboard... then i went in and wiped caches and fixed permissions. Doesn't seem to have returned.

I have the problem where the screen will become less responsive after using it for a while, but not completely unresponsive. It's hard to notice at times, I have "show touches" enabled to help me see it. Cycling the screen off then back on fixes it. I've been hoping that someone would be able to definitively say if it's an individual hardware defect or a software bug. Seems like a lot of people have this issue.
It's especially annoying when playing a touch game that requires fast, accurate inputs.

Yep... came back for me its a hardware issue... taking it back for the second time tomorrow. Gong to hit GameStop this time instead of Wally world. See if they have a good nexus :-\

Are we 100% sure it's hardware? I find it odd locking/unlocking really quick would remedy a hardware issue.
I'm thinking the problem may be more widespread than it seems. It's easy to not notice it. I only noticed when I had problems controlling a few precision input, fast-paced games.
Lets us know if your third one does it as well.

First one didn't do it and it was a C8O but this one is a C6O and its having that issue. My guess is it has been fixed since. I'll see if it happens on my next one.

Ok, Keep us posted. Mine is a C70.
I'm pretty sure mine is software related.
I restored a nandroid I had from my last tablet. I doubt its software related.

glad to hear I'm not the only one having heat/screen issues. I don't think it's a software problem either. will an unlocked device be on google's records ? think I may have to rma it

Well went back and returned my tab. Went to GameStop and opened up the C8Ok and it had the screen lift as well. Just decided to forget it. No other places in my area sell a nexus 7 so I got my money back.

I live in Bangalore. I got a new Nexus 7 from US.
The double tape seals were broken when i received it, Grabmore (the store) support lady told me it was due to a customs check
Although i doubt it, i retained the device.
I have noticed a couple of problems now,
Screen flickers, especially when i have white background. Any solution to fix this ?
Wifi keeps disconnection and reconnecting.
Any help is truly appreciated.
Return it for an exchange. That is a defective Nexus 7. I don't think the seals matter, but I think where you got it from gave you a bad Nexus 7. I don't think it could be their fault because Google has all of those defective Nexus 7's all the time. But I would contact them for a exchange.

Try turning off auto brightness and see if that stops the flickering.
As for WiFi, I'm not sure what will fix that. Maybe try flashing a custom ROM or kernel.

Was afraid of that, now i have to jump through some of their hoops to get a exchange.
Although if it helps anyone else out there,
my flicker issue goes away if you manually set the brightness to more than 35% (approx).
Also drop in wifi happens if i cover the top left part of the device with my hand.
Am quite shocked at the number of problems being reported by people !

Thats a known issue with the Nexus 7. With the screen brightness set low the screen will flicker when the wi-fi is active.

That shouldn't be surprising since you are covering the antenna with your hand.
Neither of these issues would be fixed by exchanging it.

Hmmm, I will try flashing franco's kernel and see if it solves the flicker issue.
As far as me covering the antenna area, ideally it should not affect to such an extent i lose the entire connection, guess i will have to just not do it.
Thanks everyone for pitching in.

Turning off the auto brightness has no effect, the flicker issue is tied to the % of brightness more than approx 35 % it works fine.
My dad's nexus 10 came in today and is having a horrible screen flickering issue. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this issue and/or knows an easy software fix. It's frequent, full screen flickers, 2-3 times every 5-10 seconds.
Edit: Video of flickering http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YulKn-2vYXk
I had something like that before I installed the OTA. No problems since.

Seems like a defective device. RMA it as it shouldn't' be doing that. Mine is running smooth with no flickers.

Unfortunately, we've gone through all the current OTAs. Definitely looks like we're sending it back.
Ok so today I wake my phone like I would any other day, but my screen starts to bug out. The display became all jittery and it was not uniform. Im not sure how to explain it, It was very distorted and started to flicker a little. I reset it 2 times and it began to improve. Right now, the issue is gone completely, but Im not sure if it will happen again. Also the phone became VERY hot after.
I'm running ParanoidAndroid Feb 03, stock kernel. I did use the Nexus 4 Display Control app to adjust the color a little bit, but not too much.
I've never dropped it and it never got wet or anything.
Any help?
How much did you adjust the colour by? There's a chance you adjusted it outside the 'safe' parameters.
I had the same problem. I returned the original phone they sent me. When I got the new replacement phone after just a few days it acted up the same problem. I returned it to Google and never purchase the Nexus 4 again. I'm glad the gave ma a full refund minus the shipping though. Right now I'm still searching for a good reasonably price phone :fingers-crossed:
Just return it and ask for full refund before your warranty runs out.

Hello my friends,
for some couple of weeks I've noticed some nasty screen bleed as seen in attached pics, bleed enhanced mostly when WiFi is used, and decreased but still there when WiFi is off...
D802 SEA model + 4.4.2 STOCK.
Any ideas? Should this be because a defect screen batch or something else?
Thanks in advance.
That isn't what screen bleed is.
However, you have a display hardware issue and need to return the phone under warranty.

Well, yeah, isn't the exact definition :-| but the results are kind of the same...
it's a screen bleed like or screen burn, but ... it's possible to be because of WiFi overheating?
I'll return it to my seller hopefully for a hardware replacement.. I'll let you know.
Anyone else experiencing the same behaviour?
Tks.
No. This is a hardware issue, and you should get a new one. Especially of you haven't rooted it or flashed any roms yet!
