[Q] Verizon model sim card unlocked? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do we have any idea yet if the Verizon model has any type of lock on the sim card? I'm going to be visiting Europe soon and I'm planning on swapping in a local SIM card while I'm there. Just curious if any type of unlock code is needed or if it's a simple change out.

Mine is not

Doesn't look like it's unlocked for domestic SIM's, but it may still work for international SIM's when abroad.
I popped in an AT&T SIM to my Verizon G2 and couldn't get any data.

Do you need to change APN settings or anything to make it work by chance?

Yes change the apn.All verizon world phones/LTE phones are SIM unlocked. I have been, testing metro pcs lately had to change the apn to get it to work. .. only getting edge at the moment.

Ah that would make sense

Confirmed this was trivial. Just popped in a Polish sim and edited the APN, works great.

Does the Polish sim APN need to change MCC MNC ?
I try G2 with China unicom sim, and set up APN, it works.(didn't need to change MCC MNC)
But it fail when I use China telecom simcard, because the APN MCC MNC can't change to 460 03 for china.
You can set up everything in APN except MCC MNC items.

No mention was made of a Hero with 3G that'd work on Rogers or AT&T back at its announcement a few days ago, but HTC has been getting awfully good at making phones that work properly around these parts -- so we can't say we're entirely surprised to see a Hero approved for WCDMA on Bands II and V gracing the FCC today. For the record, Bands II and V are 1900 and 850MHz, respectively, which is exactly the combo AT&T subscribers would need to flip the switch on high-speed data. We're not sure if this negates rumors that the Hero would be coming to Sprint, but if we can just get this version released and in our hands, you know... maybe our minds would be operating with a little more clarity.
t-mobile USA???
nothing for us?
Hopefully it's quad band
I was hoping this phone will come to Sprint.

there was a rumor originally that the Hero would be coming for Sprint. just because a ATT 3G band model passed the FCC, it doesn't mean that the phone isn't still going to come out for Sprint. it's still early, be patient!

According to pdadb.com it will be the G1 Touch (HTC Hero 100). Only difference between this version and the regular Hero is that they added the 1700 band to work here. Supposedly coming this month.
Tempted to get this, but the screen resolution might kill it for me
According to Gizmodo, T-Mobile says there will be no Hero released by them. http://gizmodo.com/5310109/t+mobile-straight-out-says-no-htc-hero-from-them

The link you provided refers to T-Mobile UK.
The link evilxhwnd provided refers to T-Mobile USA.
T-Mobile UK will be introducing the Hero as the G2 Touch.
T-Mobile USA says they have no plans for the Hero at all.

[Q] Virgin Mobile Canada - carrier locked?

Hi guys, long time reader - finally signed up because I am stumped. I bought my N4 through Virgin Mobile Canada which is HSPA+. It actually works out cheaper than buying it from Google.
first off, yes I searched. alot. Anyways, I have a AT&T sim that I use while traveling in the states that when I put in my N4 and I get the error that "network not available" even while in the USA. Does this mean it is carrier locked? I dont have another micro-sim to try in it and I know the sim is good because it works in my unlocked blackberry.
Everything that I have read regarding locked LG phones says it will give you an error to enter an unlock code when you put in the SIM although it does not. and the code for LG to bring up the unlock screen does not work.
Does anyone know if Virgin locks the N4? There is absolutely no branding / bloat so I didnt figure they had tinkered with it. Thanks!
You need to fiddle around with the APN settings, AT+T is weird that way.

hi, thanks for your reply, that didnt seem to do it though. I found a few on here (tho i cant post the links due to being a noob). Here are some screenshots of the APN settings I used, and the resulting error when I try to change carrier to AT&T:

I tried the Cingular settings... no dice. I have read though that once you use a go phone sim in a phone att locks your imei to that sim. Any idea if that true?
Btw, I used my sim in a black berry for a few months before getting the n4 so maybe att looked its imei to the sim? That even make sense?
never used a go phone sorry thats all the info i could find at the moment
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Any idea if there is a way to verify that my N4 is not locked so that I can completely rule that out as an option? That way I know 100% the problem is with ATT, not with my phone?
well guys, i can confirm that if you buy a nexus 4 through Virgin it is NOT carrier locked.
turns out my problem was that AT&T locked my sim to my old phone. I just called ATT and they unlocked my sim (which was locked to my old blackberry), then I put it in my N4 and it worked! woohoo!!!

[Q] A simple question about Motorola Droid X from Verzion!

Hello, a friend of mine is sending me a Motorola Droid X from Verizon USA, I live in Romania, Europe. Is there any chance I can get make this phone work in my country?
What should I do? Change the firmware? Network unlock? Can anybody give me a solution to this problem?
I really like that phone and I want to use it as my secondary phone.
Thank you!
Droid x is coma only, so it has no gms sim card slot
Not sure about non us coma, maybe able to find a local phone shop that can flash it
Don't think that is likely
edit: cdma not coma, I'm blaming that on spell check

maybe if they were released there than they could find what radio it use. Just a thought
Depends if you have cdma in your country. I was a bit shocked when my dx arrived because in new Zealand we dont have a CDma network. Most phones are GSM and unlocked. So I just use my dx for web browsing. Etc

dear friends, I asked this friend of mine if the Droid X has a sim card slot and he said yes. so is not a coma phone. I think if it has a sim card slot can be made to work on my network in here. However must work also in South Africa because I leaving in there soon. I own also a Samsung Galaxy S1 unlocked but to be honest I think the Droid X may be better!

The package is on the way. I tooked a little bit more than I expected, so I don't know exactly the model. However my friend told me he got it from Verizone (so I supose is locked on that network) and it has a sim card slot. He told me is a Motorola Droid X but who knows? I found on gsm arena however that they have a mini sim card slot. You know..the small sim ones?
What's the catch?
In my country only one network provide CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (as the phone specifies on gsmarena), and this is Cosomote. Whatever, I don't mind if I can make it work! Is a nice phone isn't?

Hello I just got my Verizone. Well what can I say, is useless in my country so I try to resell it whatever. I put it also on ebay.com for USA. Does anybody know how I can get and flash the European ROM version? I know is this Verizone and the standard Droid X ROM also for European Countries. I did a research but no results.
I rooted my phone though and I got rid from some Verizone Junk.
Any idea though?

No. If you bothered to google this question, you would have found about eleventy bazillion links to this question, and they all say no, you can't. Even if Verizon allowed unlocked devices (which they don't), the Nexus 4 is GSM only, and Verizon uses CDMA for calls. No calls, no 3G data, no 4G data, no LTE. Not a sausage. Well, 911, but that's a given.

True Verizon uses CDMA for it's 3G network but the Nexus 4 does have LTE, and Verizon uses Band 4 according to this list, shouldn't this work?

NO!
But this would be possible if Verizon allowed unlocked devices, correct? Because both can support 1700 mhz
I know this is regarding the Nexus 5 but I'm assuming it's the same reason:
Verizon is intentionally blocking the Nexus 5 from their network since the Nexus 5 has all the ability to run on Verizon with no issues. The Nexus 5 radio supports all of Verizon's frequency bands. Verizon doesn't like universal service network phones that are new unlocked cell phones they can't lock into that old 2 year services contract scheme that has made them rich

And if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump his ass when he hopped.
But yeah, if Verizon ever allowed unlocked phones, theoretically it might be possible to get LTE working on it. But the Nexus 4 doesn't have CDMA, which Verizon uses for telephony, so you wouldn't be able actually use it as a phone.

S8+ SM-955f signal icon question

Alright i got a simple but probbaly silly question that i am sure someome has the anwser to. I bought a unlocked S8+ SM-G955F and currently using it on Cricket Wireless . My question is though after putting in the correct APN informatiom for Cricket i notice that on my status bar top right were is shows the single and data connection. Instead of it showing 4G LTE like on my old S7 Active it only shows LTE and if i get a bad signal spot it will show H+. So did they remove thr 4G LTE icon and just replaced it with a simple LTE or is my phone configured worng ? Thanks
Well those icons and in fact the entire firmware are heavily carrier dependent in the US. You'll see various 4G LTE icons when you get a carrier branded phone that is part of each carrier's marketing scheme and not the Samsung or generic Android icons you would for an unlocked or any unbranded international device. Check the photos for a comparison before/after I flashed the unbranded firmware onto my ATT S8.
The important point is to check whether you do have actual LTE connection, for example by going into the menu when you dial *#*#4636#*#*. You're most likely fine and have nothing to worry about.

Not quite. LTE is LTE. 4G is something different in the specification.
H+ is HSDPA, 3G ist one Level below that.
So, the full row would be
E - 2G - 3G - H - H+ - LTE

No, LTE refers to the Band. 4G to the modem. They are two different parts of the same tech. Like 1gig Ethernet and cat6 one is a protocol, the other a medium...
So, another question to tag along with this one, very similar...I have a G955FD running on ATT in the us. Like OP states, the status bar shows "4G" and nothing regarding LTE. I have confirmed via LTE discovery that it is indeed connected.
Is there a root or other method to modify or customize that icon to match ATT or another carriers specific 4G LTE logos?
