[i9505]I think I've hard bricked my phone - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
So apparently I did a very stupid thing today. I have a MAC and a Windows 7 on my bootcamp. I've downloaded the firmware for my country (Philippines) from sammobile link: http://hotfile.com/dl/234886746/526112d/GLB-I9505XXUBMG5-20130710140005.zip.html.
I've used heimdall(basically odin for linux/MAC) and if you're familiar with it you actually need to extract the .tar files and flash them one by one on heimdall whereas on odin you just put it on PDA.
Here's what exactly what I did:
1. Booted to download mode(obviously)
2. I then fired up heimdall and added the pit file which I've downloaded from my device. Again if you're familiar with heimdall, you actually need the pit file everytime you flash unlike odin.
3. This is the part where I think I've screwed something up, I've flashed these files which I've extracted from the MG5 .tar file:
- modem.bin
- NON-HLOS.bin
- boot.img
- recovery.img
- aboot.mbn
- cache.img.ext4
- hidden.img.ext4
- rpm.mbn
- sbl2.mbn
- sbl3.mbn
- system.img.ext4
- tz.mbn
According to heimdall the flash was successful and immediately exited download mode. This is the part when the phone was supposed to reboot but it didn't. The blue led was lit and the phone is not rebooting at all so I manually rebooted it via the power button. Now the phone is not booting at all. Literally no power.
I cannot enter recovery mode and the worse part, I cannot enter that damn download mode to try and re-flash the firmware again. The phone has about 90% charge left before I rebooted manually. Also the phone is not charging. I mean even if it's turned off it should charge with the charging animation to indicate that it's charging or the led is lit up, but in this case there was no led lit up nor the charging animation.
I'm quite frustrated right now and I know I should have used ODIN considering that I have bootcamp with Win 7 installed, but I did it for testing purposes and I paid the price and ended up with a $650 brick
Now I know I'm screwed and have probably voided my warranty by doing all this but I just wanna know where did it go wrong or is there something else that I could do before I send it for repairs?

Honestly ... Go back to shop and tell them that Kies told you that there is an update ... and after the phone havent start ...
Or try like this:
Pull out the battery
Plug USB
Hold volume up
and plug the battery
Should see it.. if not try with JIG to enter in download mode

Yeah I'll go to the shop tomorrow, just wanting to know if there is something else that can be done as the repairs could take months.
There'll be no way for them to know what actually happened and if I'm lucky I would still have warranty and not pay any single cent lol. I'm guessing that they'll replace the motherboard or sumthin. Thank you anyway I'll try that

perhaps your file is corrupted.
even if redownload the firmware and use odin to check the MD5 sum.
you must do your self a JIG usb dongle to force the download mode on your phone.
hope that help you.

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure it won't hard brick the phone even if it's corrupted. Worst case scenario is that it would be a soft brick. Jig will probably work but I don't have access to it.
Something might have gone wrong on the way I've flashed it via heimdall. I've probably messed up and accidentally flashed the wrong pit(but I'm pretty sure I didn't) or probably the bootloader. Anyway I'll just save myself the trouble and just send the damn phone for repairs and suck up the 1 month wait. I just hope that they won't void my warranty. Not much I can do really.

Thanks but it didn't work. It gave me a little hope though no harm in trying. Really not sure if jig will work but one thing is for sure, I now have a $650 paper weight.
I just hope that the samsung guys won't be able to bring this back to life. I hope that they just replace the motherboard straight away because if they are able to resurrect the phone, I'm screwed. They will find out that I've modified it. Worse part is I will need to shoulder the repair costs which I wouldn't want if they void the warranty

now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
or buy a usb jig

Simply solution to fix, just use odin to flash back to stock on that screen.
Just make sure you place all the files on odin first and then plug in your phone.
Should be back to perfect working condition.

[Q] Totally bricked my phone with Heimdall

Hello guys!
I have totally bricked my phone with Heimdall 1.1.1. I followed the procedure to build Heimdall from source on my Arch Linux box. Then I have used the stock JVQ firmware from samfirmware.com to flash. Unpacked CODE.tar, CSC.tar and MODEM.tar and using heimdall-fronted selected following files to flash:
PIT -> s1_odin_20100512.pit
From CODE.tar:
FactoryFS -> factoryfs.rfs
Kernel -> zImage
Param.lfs -> param.lfs
Primary Bootloader -> boot.bin
Secondary Bootloader -> Sbl.bin
From CSC.tar:
Cache -> cache.rfs
Database data -> dbdata.rfs
The whole flashing procedure was successful, but the phone didn't boot at all. I don't even see the phone ! computer picture that I used to see couple of times before when I was trying to flash something with odin. Nothing. The phone is totally unresponsive. No three button combo, no download mode, no repair mode.
Note that I was never able to successfully flash the firmware from the same machine (my laptop) when flashing with odin on Windows 7. I got only the above mentioned ! computer picture and was able to get the download mode again. Then I flashed the firmware with odin on my Desktop Windows 7 machine.
What do you think about that guys? Did I do something wrong when flashing? Do I have to send the phone to Samsung for the warranty or will I be able to unbrick the phone by my self? I have read that even the USB jig which I have ordered on ebay won't work for me, since I can't even power on my phone. Do you think that people in Samsung will be able to fix it?
Hi! Sorry for my bad english...
u already have the USB jig in your hands? i have an i9000B phone and bricked it in a power failure while flashing a ROM with repartition... the phone went to the "phone!PC" screen, and after taking out the battery to try download mode it didn´t power on again. totally dead.
after a quick search in the forums i´ve found the thread about the USB JIG.
i´ve made a homemade one, as described in the thread... tooke out the battery, waited some seconds, pluged the jig in usb port, then put the battery back in... just got download mode! u must plug the jig with the phone powered down...
to make sure its really of, remove the battery, plug the jig, replace battery.
Good luck =D

Thank you for your reply. I still don't have the jig, just ordered it. It will ship probably next week (the weekend is coming). It might take some extra time, because is coming from US to Europe. I will let you know whether it works then.
The file -> partition mappings you listed are correct, are you sure that's exactly what you entered?
If you didn't receive an error then the files were transferred to the phone in their entirety without any problems. If a device doesn't boot after this it usually means the files weren't meant for your device (probably not the case here) or you that you accidentally put one of the bootloaders or param.lfs in the wrong spot. This is one reason why I'm hoping Heimdall Firmware Packages will be adopted.
Even if you can't see the screen working try charge your phone for a bit, 3-button combo and then see if your PC detects the phone. I recently read that sometimes a corrupt param.lfs might simply cause your screen to stop working rather than hard-bricking the whole device, although I can't confirm this.
A custom jig is still worth a shot, as it causes your device to boot using a backup secondary bootloader. So if the problem is with the secondary bootloader then the jig will allow you to access download mode.
However if the problem is with boot.bin or param.lfs then a JIG probably won't work and you'll need to take your phone into a Samsung Repair Centre. Either that or send your phone to someone who can perform a JTAG repair, the former tends to be much simpler.

I'm pretty sure I did everything right (but you can't be always 100% sure). I still think there is something wrong with USB ports on my laptop. When I was flashing with odin on the same laptop in win7, the flashing procedure was successful, but I got the "phone!computer" picture and was able to get into download mode again. Fortunately, I flashed only kernel and not the whole package with bootloader. Then I used my desktop computer to successfully flash the firmware again.

I will wait for my ordered JIG and if it won't work, I'm going to take the phone to Samsung. Any way, I will never try to flash anything to my phone from the laptop. The desktop computer way seems to be the better way.
Well, I almost forgot I have posted here. The JIG didn't work for me so I had to send my phone to the service. After three weeks phone came back. They had to change a defective part of the phone. I don't know which part it was (it was the state of e-shop, where I bought the phone).
Flashing primary bootloader is generally a dangerous thing to do.

3. put the battery out
4. put the battery in and connect the usb jig
5. connect your phone with pc
6. flash the rom via odin as pda
7. when is done, disconnect the phone from pc and remove the jig
8. put the battery out and again in
9. connect your phone whit the pc over the normal usb connector, flashed rom will start with the update, phone reboot self ---> finish
dont ask me, dont look for support, im not developer, i only wrote down what i do and how i reset the counter to 0..

here a link in ebay.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-i...aCables_JN&hash=item35b3d8fd9c#ht_1429wt_1139
but, if you put the jig in, the phone sould start whit download mode.. normally i do that whit sgs2, you can disconnect the jig and connect the phone whit the normal usb cable.. phone stay in download mode, and you can flash..
you can try it out before you flash the bootloader.. but i cant give you warranty for that..
I have already rebuilt procedure 3 times and all ok..
Guide:
1. flash over Odin as Pda Bootloader_GS2.tar
2. put the battery out
3. put the battery in and connect the usb jig ( approximately 10 seconds)
4. connect your phone with pc and flash via Odin as Pda Bootloader_N7000.tar..
If your phone does not start, remove and reinsert the battery..

How do you read the value of the counter?
In step 6, do you flash the original GNote sbl?
Step 7 is confusing - it says to remove the jig, but the jig was not in, because we were connected to the computer for Odin ???

hi
i have got the same problem.
alexdumitru your problem is not same. the link you shared they mention to solve softbrick devices. but me and zepretender got a hardbrick devices. it means you can not go to download mode. so i think only they solve it with changing mainboard or damaged parts.
is there any other new ways for solve hard brick devices??
That's a hard brick too. The emmc is damaged, though it enters download mode, it's true. But I've seen cases where the device entered download mode, though the screen remained blank. So try to enter download mode, even if the screen is still blank and then connect it to the computer. If Odin recognizes it, you might be lucky.
i´ve sufferd the same problem. i´ve bricked my note - no recovery, no download mode. i tried to go to download mode, but odin didn´t recognized usb connection. My phone was dead. I´ve sent my device to samsung for warranty repair.
Hmm I didn't know that.actually I hv tried everythng but odin didn't recgnse it. I will try your suggest ofcourse.its worth to try. So whle usb cble connected should I try to go to download mode? In some topics they mentioning about use another usb cable.which is dfferent than normal ones. Do u know anythng about it?
Jig usb can open my phone in download mode? Is that works for hardbricked phones? Because Im gonna buy one.

If your phone is "superbricked" hard brick, then a JIG won't work because it damages the eMMc chip. But, you can make your own JIG. You can get stuff at your local electronics store, like Radioshack. I don't know where you live though, haha!
Even if the JIG gets you in download mode though, if Odin fails at factoryfs.img or NAND write start then it will still be bricked.

Completely dead P9 lite

So it looks like this phone is not completely unbrickable. I've seem to brick mine pretty bad.
The phone doesn't turn on at all. No vibration or other kind of feedback.
Doesn't appear on the computer either.
So my question is: is there any emergency download mode like in qualcomm based phones?

Yes Warranty falls if the bootloader unlocked. Test Point could help.
Well warranty will most likely only complain if it was bricked by the user and software modification.
If your phone broke because of an hardware issue, you have a chance that warranty still repairs it for free.

My advice is not to mess with fastboot mode. Flash twrp and be careful with what you flash.
Did you tried to flash original firmware with the three buttons?

Yup. It's completely dead. No fastboot mode, no recovery or erecovery. It simply does not turn on (or enumerate in a computer either).
If you could boot into recovery,the rest would be simple....download the stock firmware, unzip it and push the file to your phone,then install

Have you tried to enter fastboot or recovery solely using the button combos? or did you try using adb as well? It's possible your battery deep-discharged, or your power adapter/connectors are faulty.

Yes I cant enter anything in fact. There was a suggestion to connect the phone without battery to the computer but it implies opening up the phone and even if it did something I don't have the tools to flash it. (dc-phoenix only seems to work with phones with fastboot working)
As far as I know the symptoms that my phone is experiencing are due to the fastboot partition being messed up.
As far I was able to research there is another boot loader before the fastboot one. But the phone doesn't respond at all, it is dead. I will ask around in phone repair shops if they can reflash the phone.

Before you do anything rash, have you considered getting a usb jig? Simply put the stock firmware on the jig then plug it into the usb port on your phone. It will automatically put your phone into download mode and install the firmware. Here's the link to make your own usb jig http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/guide-how-to-make-usb-jig-reset-binary-t1604707. Hopefully this helps!!!

That is for samsung phones. I gave on trying to fix the phone. Next week I'm going to send it to a phone repair shop and see what they can do.
Edit: The phone repair guy says that the only way it can be repaired is by replacing the emmc or replacing the motherboard. So for now the phone will sit in the drawer until I manage to get a new board.
Hello
I had the same problem with my honor 7, the only solution is to replace the motherboard :/
If the phone is completely dead, warranty will accept it just because they will change your motherboard if they can't turn it on. I had the same problem last week, probably an hardware fail, I gave it to them saying that the phone simply turned off and they changed the whole motherboard (bootloader unlocked, twrp and root).
Well I tried sending it to the repair center. Two days later they replaced the whole phone, they said that there was an issue with the power ic.
B160 works for me.. hmm.... using it for like a [email protected]@
might be your hardware that cause the problem and not the firmware?

I'm starting to think so, I've flashed the replacement and it didn't brick. May or may not be related to the headers, but I don't want to be creative right now since I need the phone lol.
What is b160 can you explain
